Love the staff. Love the interior. Love the beer selection. Love the fact they turned off the vibe-destroying fountain out back. Love the fact it's across the street from my front door. I feel it's the coolest development to happen in the neighborhood in the 6 years I've been here. One gripe: I'm very sad that they decided to install a TV screen. Such a conversation killer - at least it's muted and doesn't carry a broadcast signal. In our world today, saying hello to one another has never been more important...though this is still a good place to encounter and engage with folks. To quote the manager of my favorite brewery in Boulder... "There will never be televisions at our pubs because we want our guests to meet and discuss the world in which we live or simply to play Scrabble." read more

This place has been our rock on many a BK night. The bartenders are lovely, as is the beer selection. Wash Comm hits the mark as a good neighborhood bar. There's something comforting about slowly getting drunk on classy draft while sitting in a polished wooden booth. It doesn't have any extraordinary quality to bump it up to five stars, but I'll definitely keep coming back. read more

Ok here's the thing. The bar is a totally fine/cool/affordable neighborhood spot... However, service is a big deal in big cities. **Preface this with the fact I've bartended in Las Vegas and Pittsburgh** The bartender tonight (don't know his name/hipster looking skinny white male) was inappropriate. We got 4 rounds total. First 2 we weren't at the bar and tipped over 20%. Second two we were sitting at the bar. Like I said earlier I'm familiar with a bar scene. The second two rounds we didn't tip but were SITTING at the bar/not moving. He made a comment about tipping which was a bit offensive to me - so when I went to leave I left him an approx 30-35% tip on the 2nd two rounds and attempted to talk to him about not being offended. He WALKED AWAY MID SENTENCE after observing the LARGE tip I left on the bar for him. He returned and I explained myself and he was completely unempathetic/unthankful. Nope - this isn't how you treat your very generous customers. 2 stars yo. read more

I enjoy the bar, outdoor and indoor space are both nice, been many times. What has prompted me to write this review is based on my last experience I had here. One of the female bartenders left a bad taste in my mouth. She was INCREDIBLY rude to everyone I knew that got their drinks from her. Treated us unkindly, rushed us, and made some very nasty comments. I separately overheard a guy order the "cheapest beer"....and she replied "Are you seriouss??" in a tone of voice I hadn't heard since the 6th grade. ......Um, are YOU serious? This is Brooklyn. If you want people to only order $12 cocktails go work in Chelsea. All in all, I say go... but be sure to place yourself at the other end of the bar from her. read more

I came across this place last Saturday during the surprise early snow that hit NYC during my visit - and am really glad I did. There was a really cool sociable group of early 30's-ish people hanging out (this was mid-afternoon) and Rachel, the bartender was really cool and supper friendly. The place has a classy but unpretentious vibe and solid crowd - its a little smaller (could use more seating for when it gets more crowded) but for the afternoon scene it hit the spot. They had some cool movies playing (with sound off) in the background which is a nice change up I liked. I also must say that I was really thankful that the bartender (Rachel) gave me a winter coat that some patron had left behind and forgotten a longtime ago - it made braving my way to Park Slope to meet up with some friends all the less daunting in the unexpected early snow. read more

Craft beer, garden, and dogs. What more can you ask for. Wish they served food, but then dogs wouldn't be allowed. They have a large book w/ menus in case you want to order, which makes up for the lack of a kitchen. Bartenders are very friendly and the environment is nice and relaxed. read more

I stumbled onto this little gem while out on a date one night, looking for a place to eat. It was shortly after it opened so I had never heard of it before and it looked like some mysterious hole in the wall type place (no sign, low light, etc). When my date and I walked by though, we were intrigued by the small crowd inside that seemed to be having a really great time. We went to grab some dinner before checking it out and stopped in on the walk back. When we came back, I quickly decided this would be my new favorite place. Its a super cool space with a super nice staff. They have an excellent selection of beer and, as I've mentioned in a previous post, I love places that have a list of the alcohol content, price, and size of the beer you're getting. They also have the option of hard alcohol. The patio in the back changed quite a bit over the times I've come, as they've grown in popularity and it's really nice to sit out there and enjoy a drink. It's a great spot to chill out with 1, 2, or 10 people. Highly recommended. read more

I've been to this bar quite a few times, and I always wonder why I go back. In general the bartenders are decidedly not friendly or helpful. I go to a lot of bars, and have many bartender friends, and so I am generally very supportive of bartenders. It takes a lot for me to even consider writing a review in which I say something negative about someone who is working hard to make a buck in what can be a very demanding job. Ultimately, I think the problem here is really with the management. It's pretty clear that they could care less about the neighborhood or their customers. The beer list seems to always be out of date, and the beer selection also totally haphazard and unbalanced. They also have a totally unprofessional attitude towards noise management that has left them at odds with most of their neighbors. Last time I was there a drunk man, who I asked to stop bothering my dogs, threatened to beat me up, and the bartender just stood there and watched, and then kept serving this guy who was obviously too drunk to be drinking more and a threat to the other customers. A really poorly run place. If you really want to drink outdoors at a dog-friendly bar take a walk to The Gate or Mission Dolores. You'll see the difference right away. You can always tell when a business is run by people who really care about the place and their customers, and not just about making money. read more

Super cute bar.. Lovely patio. So much potential. You lost me at: a bathroom so filthy I gagged the whole 39 seconds I spent in it and even hesitated to use to TP because it was not in a dispenser and I had visions of it rolling on the mucky floor. You killed me at: $8 for a glass of swill you called red wine which I did not expect to be good given that you are clearly more of a beer and whiskey joint, but damn was it bad and so offensively over priced to salt the wound. I'm so glad you don't serve food for everyone's sake. read more

I was here last week and its pretty much all I could as for in a good bar - good beer, a great happy hour special ($3 quality beers?!) that lasts until 8pm, and good music. No food, but happy to let people bring in food from outside. All together a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

the outdoor part was nice but the bugs were problematic. decent pint prices. considering i didn't see one white person in the 5 block walk from the subway to the bar, it was surprising to encounter a crowd of about 20 white people. maybe this is how brooklyn works, i'm not sure. read more

Probably my favorite bar in Prospect Heights. The bartenders are a bit slow, which can get frustrating, but they have a nice, big backyard and a great selection of tap beers that regularly changes. read more

Washington Commons makes my life amazing. Other than a little black paint, the outside hasn't changed much since I first moved in down the block (the name of the bar is currently written on a chalkboard leaned up against the inside window), but the inside is gorgeous. A giant U-shaped bar, several tables, and a large outdoor area with tons of seating give it exactly the kind of atmosphere you want in your neighborhood bar. They had about 16 taps, and the bartender told me that at some point down the line they plan to have a kitchen and serve appetizers, though he assured me it wouldn't be anything high minded, just good ol' bar food. Prices are equivalent to the 4th Ave. Pub (same owners), between $5 and $8 depending on the beer. We're thrilled to have a place to hang out that's a little further into the Heights than Vanderbilt Ave. My only request is that none of you go there so that it can be my own personal neighborhood haunt. read more

This place really lost out on a good bar patron by hiring some guy that gave me a really bad first impression. The bartender was a guy that sported an afro and totally forgot that he was there to serve beers and not comment on my personal relationship with my girlfriend who was present. I left shortly afterwards not even having finished my beer. This place might have great beer but its not complimented by personable people that have tactful conversation skills. I will never walk in there again. As a bartender myself I can say that when it comes to serving beer it is really hard to screw up, but this guy definitely screwed up big time... read more
