I have been searching high and low in the sate of Rhode Island for the perfect sushi joint. Tonight, at Wasabi, came pretty darn close. Newly opened, and more modern decor then its Johnston counterpart, Wasabi Warwick could definitely be considered a sexy sushi sanctuary, even their budda has boobies. Textures so diverse, tactile, and wonderful I've been newly inspired for a kitchen remodel. There is a good mix of tables, booths, private rooms behind curtains, private dining coves behind screens, and of course a (long) sushi bar. The waitstaff was attentive and it's all hands on deck as different servers, busers, and managers breezed by at regular intervals. The fish itself was fresh, serving sizes ample, and a good variety was offered. I'm still tickled pink because my sushi dinner came with 8 pieces of sushi - TWO of which were my favorite salmon - and a choice of roll. Who gives choices? Wasabi does! It came with the option of either salad or miso soup. Regular rolls weigh in between $4-$5, which is way cheaper than Whole Foods, and way better. Specialty rolls were on par at $9-$14. They have a full bar, hot and cold sake and cocktails all for around $7. I need panko in my spicy tuna rolls for a 5* review and a bit more pizazz in my specialty rolls. This is our 'go-to' place for sushi! Don't shy away from the odd location, which is tucked away off to the side of the parking lot. We mostly go on Sunday afternoons because it's half-off! The rolls are pretty large, for the exception of the vegetable rolls- you'll need to order a few of those. The sweet potato roll is phenomenal and it comes out still hot and crunchy in the middle. The service is nothing to look forward to but you don't care because you're eating sushi, a lot of sushi, at a reasonable cost. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in the area for sushi - and I have been to many of them. The reception is a bit cold - I actually think it might be the owner's wife (yikes). She is the hostess and seems a bit rude, never smiles, and never greets. But just ignore it. The waitresses are great and fast. The food is amazing. I would go there any day but on Sundays sushi is 50% off. The secret is out and the place fills up quickly these days. The fish is so fresh is melts in your mouth. The quality and presentation is never compromised. I would go there any day, any time. It is a gem! They have a ton of "non-sushi" options so I want to be careful not to peg it as a sushi place only. I just happen to love sushi. This place is awesome for functions and dates. They have private booths behind a curtain - very cute and romantic. They also have private rooms for big groups. Both very practical and charming. I recommend the BBQ Calamari appetizer, Valentine Roll (my favorite, give it a chance), Spicy Crunch Roll (your choice of tuna or salmon), Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spider Roll and Godzilla Roll. Deee-lish-ous. I feel the only way to describe my thoughts about Wasabi is phonetically.. We decided to try a different sushi place after exhausting our usual options at Dragon Palace, so we sped here after work on a Friday to arrive in time for the half price sushi. It was sooo worth it. It's so great that there are a number of reliable sushi restaurants scattered around RI, so you can bounce from place to place without getting sick of any one. Seeing as how we were eating for half price, the sky was the limit. We ordered wayyy too much (don't worry - we ate it all), paired our meal with a scorpion bowl (num nums) and ended up spending the same, if not less, than we usually do - and we're usually getting take out so alcohol is not included. What a great deal! Our favorite was the Fire Dragon Roll, which was drizzled with Bacardi 151 - which was on fire! Literally. The combination of flavors was very unique, with seared steak, crabmeat, shrimp tempura, and a plethora of other scrumptious ingredients all rolled up in one [giant] bite. The only part of this excursion that threw me off was that it was almost completely empty when we got there, which is fine considering what time it was, but it was sooo quiet that I felt like we were on display every time we made a noise. An unexpected find for sushi at a great price and good quality. It's located in a shopping plaza on rt 2. Though they are open for lunch and dinner as well as take out, Ive only stopped in for lunch. I have tried a few such as the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, rainbow roll, fire dragon roll and land and sea roll. All excellent but my favorite is land and sea because I have never had steak and shrimp in a sushi roll. The flavors together are amazing! Their drink menu is almost as extensive as their sushi offerings. A must try is the wasabi sakitini, yum! In addition to drinks and sushi, they also have a full Chinese menu and hibachi. I have had a few appetizers however I have not tried hibachi yet. The owner has been there almost every time I've been there. Both he and the rest of his staff are so friendly and welcoming. If you're a stickler for atmosphere being first impressions, I'll tell you they have that down pat, hold the cheesy moving waterfall paintings you see in other Asian restaurants. I ordered the fire dragon roll, this one is a crowd-pleaser, for sure. It's got all the good things you want in a roll, leaves your tummy feeling good and has that unoverwhelming and delightful trace of Barcardi 151 in it! Normally when I eat at sushi restaurants, a roll does not leave me feeling satiated in the least bit, not this roll- it's really pretty filling. With the half off discount being too good to pass, I took home some shrimp tempura to go- only 3 freaking dollars, leaves me a happy girl. First-time tryer, I'm ready to go again! Great deals to be had during Happy Hour (3:30 - 5:30pm) where you can get half priced sushi rolls which includes special and normal rolls. There are some exceptions which the waitress will let you know. Came here with my girlfriend and ordered 6 special rolls which normally run $80 but ended up about 40 before tax and tip. Our favorites were the Hollywood roll and the Fire Dragon roll (love the lighting of the bacardi 151 when the manager brought it over). I definitely overestimated how big the rolls were and probably could've gone with just 3 rolls...Fortunately the cooked ones made for good breakfast leftovers! The ambience was very nice and they had private booths. We got there around 4:30 where it was a bit empty but got filled up as it got closer to the end of happy hour towards dinner. I can see why service may get slow since we only saw one sushi chef and the manager feverishly keeping up with orders and two waitresses managing the dining room. I tried Wasabi during my birthday weekend and I was nothing but thrilled. Unfortunately, I neglected the rave Yelp! reviews that popped up on this place, because I judged the outside. The location is in the back plaza where Chilis and Petsmart is. Most of the businesses in the plaza look a bit sketchy and run down, so you can understand my reasoning. I have it a shot anyway. Walking into the place was decent. The decor uses relaxing neon tones that emit from the bar. Walking in, we were immediately greeted by a very friendly hostess. Looking straight ahead, you will see curtained rooms. I wondered if we were going to be put in one, as I was curious what it would be like. Sure enough, the hostess sat us at our own "room". Let me tell you, it felt great! Privacy at its best! Our waitress's name was Cherry. She took our drink order, and ordered a Scorpion bowl. Se brought it back with all it's flaming glory! It was excellent! We put in a Nime Chow appetizer and soaked in the menu items (there are a lot!). Cherry came back with our Nime Chow and recommended several rolls. We ended up going with a Snowball roll and I think it was called a Fire Dragon roll. She told us those were the best 2, which made me happy. We tried the Nime Chow and it was delicious! Finally, the good stuff came. The snowball roll came out first. It was a little hard to eat because of the construction, but once I got it in my mouth I got excited. Big burst of sushi goodness. Cherry shortly came back with our fire dragon, blazing with real fire across the plate. It was a cool sight and a great dragon design painted on the plate with spicy mayo and sriracha. The rolls were so good that we finished everything just the two of us. I really enjoyed this experience and I will definitely be back. I highly recommend this restaurant along with this waitress! I have mixed feelings on Wasabi because while we found the food pretty good (with a couple items being great) at least two of our sushi rolls were different from what we ordered and due to it being takeout wasn't discovered until I arrived home. Let me start with the good: Their nime chow and scallion pancakes were some of the best I've had. The nime chow was fresh and the citrus dipping sauce was a perfect accompaniment, while the scallion pancakes were soft and a little bit crispy, which can be hard to do. Sometimes you get them and they're extremely soggy which thankfully these weren't. Now the odd part. We also ordered four maki rolls (spicy tuna, alaskan, cooked spicy scallop and sweet potato) and upon looking at them I realized that there were some mistakes. Our spicy tuna ended up being a tuna avocado roll, while the alaskan had cream cheese in it (I hate cream cheese in sushi) but was missing the masago. The weird part is neither of these two are on the menu as we received them (their Philly roll comes with smoked salmon and scallions, which this didn't have.) On top of that our spicy scallop roll only had scallop in it (maybe their version doesn't include anything else in it?) and we didn't find it spicy, so the only one that appeared as ordered was the sweet potato roll. All that being said, how was the sushi? It ranged from okay to pretty good, nothing that stood out and the roll issues didn't help in that regard. So either one of two things happened: Either someone else had customized a couple of rolls similar to ours and the orders got mixed up or the sushi chef was having a really bad night and was messing up orders, because our receipt did have the right items on it. Would I give Wasabi another chance? Probably, but if I order takeout again I'll definitely be opening the bag before I leave. read more

Went to Wasabi last month and tonight. I started writing a review after our previous visit and just getting around to completing it - so you're getting a 2-for-1 here. Hubby and I love the booth and curtain seating. It's cozy and intimate. The service was lovely - both visits. Yes, both servers were engaging and attentive. For starters on both visits we had: nim chow Sweetheart Salad for 2 miso soup house salad On my March visit I had the Snow Ball Roll as it had the words "Highly Recommended" written above the picture in the menu. I ate it but I really didn't care for it. It had tempura which left me feeling too full after just the first bite. On this visit, I ordered the Dragon Ball as I did not want anything with tempura or soy wrappers. It was a home run! I loved the thin sliced avocado (just like in the sweetheart salad), the ginger sauce, and the dragon sauce (in the shape of a dragon on my plate. Hubby had to help me finish eating it. Each visit, my hubby has ordered hibachi combination chicken and scallops with vegetables (but no peppers or onions) and "less oil." The chef was very accommodating to this request. I come here for happy hour and it's always delicious. I always try different things here and I actually prefer to come here (over the sushi restaurant with all the great reviews that's right by my house) because the prices are great and the sushi doesn't suffer for that (it's always nummy). That being said, I've definitely had better sushi in other places JUST NOT AROUND HERE since I've only been in the RI/MA area for half a year. I hope to explore more and find the best sushi spots around RI/MA. I've been to Haruki's and in my opinion it was over-priced and just kinda normal (aka not SO GOOD i'd go back, given the price). But yeah. This has become my go-to happy-hour spot for sushi. The deals are insane (again FOR THE AREA) and you can get a lot of good sushi for an affordable price! The only reason this place gets a 4 star is because most of the sushi I've tried around RI/MA has been kinda blah and DEFINITELY over-priced. The happy-hour gives you GOOD SUSHI, for the area, and at a great price. Some of the sushi out here in the restaurants isn't even as good as the sushi they sell at the grocery stores. It's a real shame and basically IT IS A CRIME. Wasabi is consistently good, affordable, and dependable. I know I can eat all kinds of sushi here and be happy about the whole experience (what I've put into my body and what I've spent in order to do so). PLENTY of parking. PLENTY of seating. Fine for kids and families. You can get one of those side booths with curtains that give you privacy if you need or want to have a secret rendezvous. Portion size is average. How great is sushi? And Wasabi does great sushi. Not only do they have awesome sushi, they also have some really great deals. During the week, they offer many of their signature rolls at 1/2 off, that's like 50%!! I also really like that they have several semi private booths. So this would be a nice place for date night. Wasabi is my go-to place when I need a sushi fix but don't want it to cost an arm and a leg. They have happy hour specials as well as coupons. My friends and I average visits at least once a month. Sadly, the service is a bit slow. Granted, they know to always expect a large group 8+ but waiting 20 minutes to order or for a check is a bit superfluous. The quality of the seafood has wavered a bit in the past, but these days, it appears to remain steady and delicious. I am still allowed to order specials that are no longer on the menu (the Honey Roll in particular). My favorites on the menu other than the Honey Roll include tenpura (including the ice cream) because it's delicious and non-oily. Their salads are excellent for both flavor and freshness. Wasabi has a great variety of sushi rolls offered. For those who do not like raw fish or are not into sushi, they have wonderful entrees as well. I can't help it, but I love their fried rice! Can't beat the 1/2 price sushi. Have never had an issue with quality of the fish. Some of the rules are a little strange..I'm not a soda drinker but my husband is. If you get 1/2 price sushi, soda is not free refills. Love how you can get the 1/2 price to go. We were running late one day and showed up 15 before happy hour was over and we were unable to be sat. Well I saw 4 stars and everyone's reviews but I wasn't that impressed to be honest. Restaurant looks nice on inside but in a run down strip mall. Got a mai tai which was a little to strong for me. Then the perfect sushi roll which was good but the pieces were just to big. They should be bite size and they were way more than that. In addition to that they placed to much spicy mayo on top and didn't take time to drizzle but more of a ladle. Late but not least I had chicken fried rice, little greasy and not very flavorful, I have had such a hard time finding good fried rice since leaving the U.K.! Thought this could have been a new good spot as I like to explore RI and find new restaraunts to try out as I consider myself a foodie. Came in on a Wed earlier and service and food was good so figured I would come back Sun to 5/15 and got quite frankly got one of the rudest and unpleasant dining experiences I've had in awhile and I usually eat out 2-4 times a week. I 1st asked to sit at bar but got told only tables open but no one was at the bar. Everyone knows the bar makes the money for the restaraunts period. So I politely took a table no biggie. Got to take a peek at the private booths which really is a nice touch but wasn't at all needed since the place was empty. Both of us had the hibachi and it was absolutely excellent. Also had one of the best tempura shrimp rolls I've ever had! I had a plum wine that was so good I wanted another one but really just wanted to taste it.
