The chicken was made to order so it was fresh, the salad was delightful and the the pickles were to die for. I'll admit, when I saw Asian soul food I was very much curious. M I ordered a whole fried chicken which was around 24/25$, a 3 piece wing simply because the lady (Sarah I believe) said that's what they are known for and I opted on the 3 sides for 13$ or so which I chose the corn bread (fluffy), the potato salad (creamy) and the pickles. I have been craving friend chicken wings and Yelp led me to here. I first I thought it was pricey for the wings. Three wings for $9 but they are jumbo wings and cut in half it equals to six pieces. More than enough for one person Unless you are me. Lol. Very will seasons, fried throughly and the sweet and ginger glaze was a perfect balance. Their must order are the Wangs, which are Korean style wings dipped in mild or spicy sauce. I went for 3 of those ($10). I also love their popcorn chicken ($9 for the medium portion, which is plenty). I also tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13) for the first time. These are probably the best wings I have ever had in my life. They were crispy, well-seasoned and pretty big. This staff behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. It seems everything was in order with keeping distances during the quarantine, which is likely attributed to their walk up window format. I decided on 3 not so hot wings (hot on the side) and a cornbread loaf. Everything is made to order (it took about 10 or 15 minutes) so hot and fresh is an understatement. I ended up having them at home since I knew there might be messy sauces. I started with the cornbread, which was also super tasty, almost game-like. Adding the scallion butter make each bite taste like a hush puppy. Interesting spin! These wings were so good I ended up making an order with Doordash 2 days later for a larger amount for the quarantine. The sauces, hot and not-so-hot are both amazing. This is what Korean fried wing dreams are made of. A literal hole in the wall, Wangs really delivers. The wings are huge, fried perfectly, the hot sauce is on point, and the meat is tender. It's the perfect fried wing, but I can't imagine it tastes very good if you reheat it at home. It's almost a fusion of southern fried chicken and Korean fried chicken, and I'm here for it. Listen, it wasn't my idea. I haven't ordered chicken wings on the fly in so long but my friend insisted it would be a great late night treat after all the cocktails we had. The last time I ordered chicken from a window was on the south side of Chicago so it felt like home for a hot second. On the other side of that window appeared to be a clean kitchen and 2 guys with a sense of humor. So I said 'ok, I think I can trust these guys with my chicken'. I seriously didn't know 6 would be way more than enough and had no clue these sweet & slightly spicy chicken 'wangz' would be the size of King Kong's foot. They were so big they could fly (after a few cocktails). They were so big I had to actually take a moment to evaluate how to bite into them (*semi-brain work required). They were SO BIG, I was getting anxiety just from refraining from asking the 2 guys with a sense of humor how the wings got so big because I didn't want to unleash some information I wasn't ready for... but it turns out, they are organic birds (whew!). The last thing I needed was to hear I was eating hormone-pumped, overgrown birds. Yay, we're safe, guys! I took these wings home and ate them like there was no tomorrow. They were good and I appreciated the chili pepper flakes for a nice kick. There was a lot of skin and not as much meat on the bones as I hoped but they were still good. This sticky sauce was everywhere and they had a lot of this saucy juice covering the bottom of the paper takeout box. I bit off pieces of the 'wangs' and dipped them in the sauce. I was happy... then I was annoyed. The Mac & cheese was the saltiest scoop of carbs I've ever digested. The thing is I LOVE salt, but not SALTY, salty. I remember asking the guys if the Mac & cheese was well flavored (I can't handle bland Mac & cheese) and I guess their definition of flavor=salt. Salt does NOT equal flavor. The breaded crust on top was a nice texture and crunch and it was almost successful until the salt hit; it ruined the whole pasta. Since this place is called 'Wangs' and not 'Macaron-angs', I'm going to pretend I didn't have it and will order it never again because the wings were good enough for me! Both of our meals together came out to about $72 after a few sides, drinks, and 6 wings each. That was a bit pricey for takeout for my liking. Can I at least get a chair and a waiter with that? No? Ok. I reheated the wings next day in the oven (I don't own a microwave anymore, do you, still???). That was a fail. I advise you to eat and enjoy these 'wangs' as soon as you get them. The Boneless chicken was terrible, no seasoning, no crunch, texture of chicken bad EVERYTHING bad. I ate 1 piece (they probably give you 30) without sauce and 1 piece with sauce. Sauce (I believe a signature sauce) was good but could not save the chicken. I was parked right out front and immediately went back to the window telling the cashier I didn't find it edible. The concept of Wang's--their culinary intentions if you will, might be better than the actual food you end up getting. However our trip to Wang's ended up being a positive experience even though the food wasn't good enough to keep us coming back. We got the 9 piece "Wangs" in the mild sauce (which is actually sweet) and it ended up being too much for 3 adults and 1 child. The wings are big and meaty, 2 wings per person is more than enough and there's a good chance you'll be satisfied after just 1! They're ok, but the wings weren't tender. You really had to work to get the meat off the bone rather than a really good "pull apart" wing. If you tried pulling these wings apart, you'll end up losing the whole wing or flinging it across the room at someone still intact! Lmao The Mac N Cheese was just not good, super cheesy yes, but the flavor was off. Whatever cheese they use, although it's mild, it's a little too non traditional and after like the 3rd spoon it becomes distracting. I'd say the best thing we got was the cornbread which was delicious!! So moist and soft and scallion butter just took it to a whole other level!! If we ever did go back to Wang's, it'll probably be for the cornbread only that's how good it was. The potato salad was the most interesting and this was the dish that most lived up to their "Asian soul food" concept. It was a a good potato salad and has a great sesame oil/toasted sesame seed flavor. The cole slaw was not all that, basically just cabbage and vinegar, I mean it was edible, but not special. When I was a teenager and dinosaurs roamed the Earth, I would get a craving for fried chicken when I lived in Park Slope. Back then, my friends and I would get our fix from the KFC on fourth avenue but it is long gone. While visiting a friend recently, we wanted to have some fried chicken again, but amazingly enough there are not a ton of places to get such cuisine in the area. That's where Wangs Fried Chicken came in (thanks to a search on the handy dandy Yelp app!). Wangs Fried Chicken (I LOVE the name) is not a KFC competitor however. This shop seeks to provide a mixture of Southern soul food mashed up with Asian flavor to create something different. Also, its prices are much higher than a KFC (rightfully so) since they try to use quality ingredients, brine their chicken overnight and provide a variety of sauces to dress their chicken. I wound up ordering one whole fried chicken and an order of 9 "wangs" with their ginger and garlic sauce. I also ordered a few corn muffins (really little loaves) to go with it. The cashier was very nice and I was likely their first customer of the day so they were still settling in a bit when I ordered. There is a picnic style table/bench outside the restaurant/stand and that's about it, but on this particular day I took the order to go. This is an important note because when they packed up my food, they made one error that I would recommend they do not do going forward. When you order the cornbread, it includes a pat of flavored butter. Awesome! The problem is, they pack it in *with* the warm loaf, so by the time I got to my friend's house (8 blocks away) the butter had mostly melted and been absorbed by the paper bags that the cornbread had been placed in. Whoops. The butter really should be in a small plastic container all its own and kept separate from the bread. So how was it? Well, the fried chicken itself was good but it definitely needed more spice to it, maybe even a little pepper. However, the "wangs" were amazing. They were a good size, fried perfectly crisp and the ginger garlic sauce was totally craveable! I would get this dish again in a heartbeat. The cornbread was okay. I suspect it would have been a lot better with the butter - had it not all been absorbed by the paper bags. I definitely recommend the wings at erm...Wangs. If you do get the whole chicken, I recommend asking if one of the sauces can be poured on top instead of getting it straight up the way I did. read more

The first time (many times ago) I ordered, they included cornbread for free-- and (other than the UNBELIEVABLE fried chicken) it is my absolute favorite side. The first time we went to wangs we got there early because the other reviews mentioned the super long waits but the 3 times we have visited it hasn't been super busy. It does take a little while for the food to be prepared as there is usually only 1 or 2 people there but the wait is well worth it. The wings ate crispy on the outside, moist and fresh on the inside, and the sauce (spicy) is to die for. We also tried the chicken sandwich which was delicious! Those are some of the delicious Soul Food and Asian combinations being cranked out of this little walk-up window in Park Slope. This is one of the most cleverly named places I've seen - it has the double meaning of the name of a Chinese person, as a nod to the Asian influences, and also as the owner explained, doubles as the way people say "wings" in the South, representing the soul food side of the menu. There is a small, very simple menu consisting of chicken in various forms, along with sides. We tried just about everything, which is a smart idea since it's all so good: - Wangs ($6 for 3 pieces) These were some very large Korean style wings, which come with your choice of one of the several aiolis (additional ones are $1 each) and in a regular or spicy variety. They were really meaty and had a ton of flavor with the sauce alone. This is a good choice to start with. - Fried Chicken Banh Mi ($10) This was amazing. Aside from the non-traditional filling of fried chicken for a banh mi, the bread was also very different, in a very good way: it was a huge, long seeded hero roll from Runner & Stone, the excellent bakery also located in Brooklyn. It had some nice crispness to it, like you would expect from the usual baguette with a banh mi, and had similar flavors from the cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon. - Half Fried Chicken Dinner ($21) Packed up in a nice takeout box, this is a pretty good deal as it gets you four pieces of fries chicken and two sides. For the sides, we tried the Collard Greens, which consisted of kale, Chinese sausage, scallion, ginger and garlic, and the Potato Salad, which had red potatoes, celery, red onions, black sesame and Japanese mayo. These were great choices, as they had very different flavors. The greens were served hot and had the tasty, bitter flavor you would expect, but then had a great sweetness from the Chinese sausage. The potato salad was cool and refreshing, and had less of a distinct fusion taste than the other stuff, but was still great. For the chicken, there was a boneless breast, two pieces of dark meat, and a drumstick. The boneless white meat was incredible - so juicy with very crispy, well-seasoned skin. The dark meat was even juicier, but I loved the boneless piece the most. There are a few benches out front for eating your stuff, which is all packaged to go. It's also cash only. This place is cooking up some seriously delicious food. Now they just need to add some kind of red velvet cake with some black sesame elements or some other kind of fusion desserts, and it would be pure perfection.
