I'm used to the franchised korean chicken wing restaurants (pelicana, bonchon, olive chicken, mad for chicken) but this place stands out on its own. it's a small hole in the wall with a simple menu but they do it right. we came to pick up during covid and the food was ready before the estimated pick up time. We had to drive it to my parent's place which was about 25 min away but the wings were still good, with a nice crunch and very tasty sauce. Don't be deterred by the price, the wings are HUGE. The order was prepared in a few minutes, I was even surprised by how fast it was. The first few bites were fine, but when I bitted deeper into the chicken breast and wing, I saw that fresh blood was coming out. RUDE! I've been here a few times before and since I found myself in the neighborhood tonight, decided to order again. On the drive over, I called in my order since it was close to closing time, to save everybody time. When the server asked me what kind of dressing and I asked the options, she, clearly annoyed that she would have to be HELPFUL, read the list without any pauses so I couldn't tell "cilantro, lime" or "cilantro and lime" etc. I asked her to repeat it which she did so with plenty of attitude. Manager Caroline offered no empathy at all for their mistake. We live within a 0.8 mile radius in The Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens area. They say they deliver within 1 mile radius). I called for delivery and was directed to order through their online for delivery. We did and our order never came. I called and was directed to the manager Caroline whom begins to tell me they don't deliver to our area because it's not within the 1 mile radius. Caroline started to get pretty obnoxious and said "oh you live near Hoyt and WE don't deliver there!" Rude behavior and bad attitude is all I can say. Wangs was a random find while walking near downtown Brooklyn. I would've given it 4.5 stars if an option but 4 seemed too low. Wangs is a small walk up so the prices on the menu were admittedly deterring. I made the mistake of ordering the fried chicken sandwich along with fries which was well more than enough food for one person. It came in at $20, which for the quality and quantity of food was actually pretty reasonable. This meal could've been split by two people. The fries were a degree above average themselves - I don't care for shoestring fries but the seasoning and sesame aoili were amazing and redeeming. The sandwich, on the other hand, was overall probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. Normally I avoid fried chicken sandwiches as they tend to be overwhelmingly greasy, but this was perfectly fried with a great combination of flavors from sweet to tangy and refreshing. The lunch deal that spans M-F through most of the afternoon gets you both items for only $14. The service was extremely pleasant. My food was made pretty quickly and both employees were very nice. Being Easter Sunday it was a slow day, and we chatted briefly after I was finished with my food. Wangs was an experience I won't soon forget from my recent Brooklyn trip. Orders are placed at a counter and the wings are full. The steep price won't seem bad at all when you order six and receive a gigantic plate of chicken. The people working were friendly and helpful, explaining that you can get sauce on the wings, on the side, or half and half. I was encouraged to go all in and get sauce on the wings because they are better that way. I have to admit I agree with this suggestion. We had a short wait at the picnic tables and my husband ran across the street to the market to grab us beers, which we drank from paper bags. He came back just in time for our delicious wings to appear. These babies were super crunchy, cooked perfectly and had a delicious hot and sweet taste. The heat kick was there but wasn't too extreme. The signature Korean-style chicken wings (aka wangs) that they make here are serious business. They're huge, cheap, crispy, and served in a tangy sweet sauce. We went with the hot sauce, and it actually wasn't very hot at all. So go for it! We also did a half chicken dinner (it comes with two sides). Sadly, the organic fried chicken wasn't as good as the wings. It was a bit dry and needed more spice in the breading. Luckily, they have a ton of sauces available. We went with the kimchi aioli as recommended by the cashier. It was nice and tangy. Just the right amount of spice. They also have bottles of Sriracha and garlic Sriracha available at the front. The corn bread was amazing. We had some fresh out of the oven. It was basically a mini-loaf. The salted scallion butter was a great complement. We also tried the collard greens, which I wasn't that into. As for the space, it's not much, but it's cute. They took over the old Falafilo space (good riddance!) and basically replaced the entire first floor with a kitchen. There's a walkup counter where you place your order, a picnic table in front of the store, a bench to wait for your order, and also a stand up counter where you can eat. Pretty basic, but it works. Saw a lot of takeout orders happen. Service was pretty quick. We were lucky enough to have nobody in front of us when we sat down. We were also jerks who took forever to figure out our order, but the girl taking our order was super patient with us and gave us pretty good recommendations. Oh well. There have been about 10 different occasions when we thought, "we should try wangs" and it just didn't work. Finally, the stars aligned and off we went. Seating is limited to one really out of sorts picnic table. The middle plank of the table seems warped and leaves a bump in the center, making it challenging to eat with someone across from you. A bike rack would also make things far easier if it is an eat and go kinda place, but that doesn't figure into my star rating - just a suggestion as we were not the only folks looking for one nearby. While we were waiting for our food, the folks seated at the table happened upon a big hair in their final wing, which was a less than appetizing start to our meal. To the credit of the staff, they appeared to comp the entire meal of the couple, but it definitely put us on our guard at the start. The wings aren't cheap but we placed an order for 9 wings and 3 sides plus some popcorn chicken for the kids. We ordered our wings hot, and I assumed that when you only offer two kinds of wings (hot and not hot), you'd get that right. They didn't. The wings came doused in a honey sauce with no spice in site. The counter dude made it seem as if it were a matter of just adding some red pepper flakes, but the owner gave us some containers of what the wings should have been cooked in and there was definitely more to it. We were disappointed that we didn't really get the full experience of the wings as they were intended. The wings also weren't well cooked, I'm sorry to say. They were beautiful on the plate but unevenly cooked. I think their effort to leave the wings intact (drumette and winglet together) actually made the smaller portion of the wing overcooked by the time the thicker part was done. The meat itself was not the succulent, crave-worthy awesomeness that I really want from wings. This just missed the mark. The sides were worthy of a 2 star deduction on their own. The collard greens were just about the oddest preparation I've had of a side I usually really enjoy. They had an odd aftertaste of toothpaste and virtually no flavor. There's a good reason they are usually doused in vinegar - these were icky. The okra was also a really big miss. I'm used to okra being dry fried to the point of the slimy interior disappearing or boiled and then tossed - these seem to be cooked in a pan but not long enough to do it right. Slimy, squeaky and with painfully little of the coconut flavor promised...it just didn't work. The potato salad was fine, but the other two sides and the miss on the chicken really made this a miss for us. I should probably give this 2 stars based on our overall experience, but I really do value this sort of option in the Slope. They are trying to do something different, something tasty, and it is close. They need to work on their recipes a bit and seriously, when you offer two kinds of wings, get the order right! Oh - and have the wing master wear a hair net. I may have to scrub my eyes with your toothpaste-flavored collard greens to get that image out. read more

I've come here more than ten times and the wings are so addictive. Get the spicy wings. They can be big so they are filling. There was one time when the wings were tiny though. The banh mi is good but not as good as the wings. The banh mi is huge and can be a bit dry. The corn bread is delicious! Tried their potato salad and collard greens, which are just okay. The fried chicken is moist and flavorful but the skin could be crispier. I must add that they use organic chicken. Accepts credit cards now. Honestly, I ordered way to much food but there was so much I wanted to try. I ordered half a fried chicken with potato salad, collard greens and cornbread. Getting the food home was difficult because I was so curious and everything smelled great. But once I got home to try the food my excitement faded a little I must admit. First, I'll start with what I thought was the best part of the meal - the cornbread. It was excellent and cake like but not sweet like typical southern style cornbread. The scallion butter was the perfect finishing touch but I would've preferred if it was served separately. By the time I got home the butter was all over and came through the bag the bread was in. The collard greens were delicious but in my opinion had to much of the sausage in one serving. The potato salad was very different but good however, it was hard for me not to compare it to what I'm used. It lacked the flavor that I'm used to in its traditional version. I had high expectations for the chicken but when I tried the breast - which is my favorite part - it was undercooked and the batter was still gooey in some areas. This is a definite issue that needs to be resolved. The $22 dinner box comes with half a chicken, around 4-5 pieces of chicken, and two sides. This place is amazing because it takes food that you can find everywhere and makes it unique. A focused menu gives the restaurant a chance to practice, experiment, and achieve consistency with their product. This is what makes Wangs remarkable. The fried chicken was moist and the skin was crispy. Easy to describe but hard to execute. The Wangs hot sauce was good that I ran out of the sauce before the chicken was done. It's got the consistency of a glaze, not so much a sauce, but pairs so well with the fried chicken. The mac and cheese was decadent but not overpowering. They give you the right portion so you don't hate yourself after the meal. The panko breading on top gives it a nice crunch. The pickles were good but overshadowed by the mac and cheese. I have had a decent amount of fried chicken in my life and came to the obvious conclusion that all chicken is not fried equally. Due to the large amount of restaurants that now serve fried chicken, it is hard to find a place that actually serves amazing fried chicken.
