I think people are just being nice with these reviews, honestly. I got the absolute worst coffee here today. I went for the signature ombre nitro. To be fair, they were out of nitro and asked if I wanted cold brew. They shouldn't have even bothered -- just say you're out -- because what I got was the equivalent of a coffee-flavored water. This tasted like an iced coffee you left in your hot car while at the beach. Horrible. They should be embarrassed to call this their "signature drink". And yes, it came without ice but still managed to be watered down. read more

Love this place!!! I've tried hot and cold latte, cold brew, espresso and I liked it every time. I go here regularly. Staff is very friendly! My go-to here is cold brew, it's $3.45 for a medium size and $3.95 for a large which is great value, AND they have a ton of flavors/syrups (extra $0.75) to choose from, and what I love the most if sugar free syrup selection (monin brand which are the best syrups ever if you didn't know). There's plenty of inside and outside seating area, and there's drive thru available as well. I usually enjoy my coffee time inside on one of the woven couches and I see people working on a laptop or reading here regularly but to me inside is a bit echoey so I would bring headphones if you need to focus. What else... they have small selection of merchandise (coffee mugs and cups), chips, small bakery treats like pop cake, brownie and macarons, as well as bagged coffee and tea and Lotus drink. (I've never heard about Lotus drink until I saw it here, it's supposed to be a healthier alternative to coffee, basically an energy drink with natural caffeine. They serve it here and I tried it once, I didn't dislike it but can't say I fell in love, tastes like flavored pop.) Anyway, great place! read more

Never heard of this place before, but met a friend to help tutor my kid, and wow! What an amazing place! I'm not a big coffee drinker, so I was happy they had non coffee options that still offered caffeine! The blue raspberry lotus was so delicious! Sweet, but not to sweet, and also wasn't syrupy tasting like some drinks can be. The worker was super friendly, extremely patient, and very helpful while I tried to figure out what I wanted. The place is also cute with a surf shop vibe. Definitely recommend trying this place if you haven't. I absolutely can't wait to come back! read more

Such a cute place to stop for a coffee! I went through the drive thru and was greeted by the most friendly, sweet barista. Both the person taking the order and the one who checked us out were talkative and made me feel like a valued customer! Plus- service was extremely fast even on a Friday morning. I got a pumpkin spice latte with oat milk which was a little sweet (similar to other reviews here, but still way better than the chains) but I'm still coming back just because of the great atmosphere. It's a nice cozy place where you'll find people reading, studying, and chatting. If you're expecting to be able to focus in a quiet environment, bring headphones. I can see it to be a popular spot for people to gather and talk so you'll hear voices over each other. The drinks are decent. This isn't a place you come to rate the drink quality, but for the atmosphere it provides. The coffee is good and strong! I highly recommend going through the drive-thru (which is at an awkward angle) versus going inside. I stopped in on an afternoon to finish some work and it was like a daycare inside; I'm not sure if they offered that additional service or not. There were young teenagers and kids hanging out in the back room, making weird noises, and running around everywhere. It got annoying because a coffee shop is supposed to be a place to concentrate and get work done. read more

Pretty average coffee place! Some times their coffee tastes watered down. 90% of the time we drive thru, and only a handful of times we walked in. There's not much seating inside the cafe. They offer some muffins and other baked goods. Service is quick, so no complaints there. read more

Beach inspired LOCAL coffee shop. Atmosphere feels relaxing and happy because of the colors, art and friendly feel. I can tell the coffee is purposely selected with care and is offered in a multitude of tasty ways. The quotes on the walls and notes printed on the sleeves is so thoughtful. The shop also offers a small selection of 3/$3 cookies and board games to make a coffee stop into a fun family outing. In the back is more seating including small outside patio. Drive thru is also offered. Highly recommend! Selection of flavored syrups offered including classics like hazelnut and surprises like lavender. Their instagram page is great for menu ideas. I asked for no whipped cream in my drink and they added whipped cream. When I asked for changing it, they just removed as much as possible from the top and stirred in the remaining (this shows how cheap they are), topped off with more milk and spoiled the taste of the drink. On a Sunday adventure out and about, I ran up on this cool place at the corner of Davis Drive and Old Jenks Rd in Apex. From the outside, you would never expect what you find inside. I enjoy supporting local based businesses and I think these guys have a niche that sets them apart if you are looking for a great new place to relax with a coffee or other treat. When you walk inside, it's like you have gone to the beach/Carribean/islands/etc. The vibe that hit me was cool, hip, eclectic and unique. Well played. Who expects that kind of theme for their coffee shop in Apex, NC? Yeah, exactly. So now that they got my attention, I looked around. Many people seem to enjoy this place for work or relaxing or other distractions as I see many people working on their laptops, or sitting enjoying a drink, or even a group of women with their Kindles/books for a book club meeting (it appeared). More cool points, nice, people like soaking up this atmosphere. All over the walls, counters, everything nailed down and then some, there are quotes placed up either by sheets of paper or even directly painted on the walls. Not just quotes but proverbs and sayings and wisdoms and even scriptures are found almost everywhere you look. Wow. As for the coffee itself, the latte I had was excellent. Perfect taste and not a bad wait. The staff was friendly, positive, and got me taken care of in good time. The tables and chairs are more like what you would find out on a patio. It's pretty novel that the legs on the chairs have tennis balls on them to help them scoot along the floor and protect the floor I would say. They do stand out, like most of the things in this shop. I just kept looking around while enjoying my latte and saw the pastry/goodies case as well. I did resist at this time but looks like they have many nice tasty noms to enjoy also. Complete with a drive thru service if you are on the fast track, this little locally owned shop is a gem to find in this world of big chain coffee and hurry up hurrying up. I brought my reusable tumbler & they were able to put my drink in that (yay)! The location on Jenks is a lot cozier than the one on Kelly rd. I am so happy to have a drive thru coffee spot near us! One of our favorite covid times adventures is to get coffee and drive to the Apex Community Center for a walk. I recently discovered the wake zone cloud is iced espresso and whipped milk (option to have soy or almond milk). Another favorite drink is the half sweetened iced latte. I can tell that high schoolers are primarily making the drinks because my london fog ended up being pretty bland and the coffee is often pretty acidity. Overall- very happy to have them nearby! read more

The fruit flavored "smoothies" are solely comprised of ice and flavored syrup and priced as if they contain something more substantive. $4 for a 12 oz serving and $5 for a 16 oz serving and then $6 for the 24oz. Nutritionally speaking, this is literally sugar water and is plain criminal to be called a smoothy. Don't buy the smoothies. read more

I don't drink "fancy" coffee, just plain ol' java and the staff always gets my cream to coffee ratio just right--not an easy trick! I really appreciate the fact that they have a drive thru as well. The impetus for my review is the service we received at our church today. We are located right down the street and host a LARGE vacation bible school every summer. Our director had the owner (Mark) bring coffee for the workers today. As the snack server I witnessed the set-up, etc. Everyone raved about the actual coffee but I was really impressed that Mark brought the coffee, set it up complete w/ cups and sugars, cream, etc. and then came back and took the whole rig away! I tried Allen & Son in Chapel Hill as part of my 'Cue Crawl while on vacay, only to find that it was closed. Wanting to get my BBQ fix, I decided to go more local and hit up Dixie Belle's Smokehouse: also closed. (Let me give myself a little credit - I DID call this one, but the # wasn't working. And then a whiteboard with the menu had two conflicting claims: "Opening January 4!" and ""Closed for good." I dunno how much you can trust official news when delivered in dry-erase format, so you be the judge...) Well, Wake Zone Espresso was the silver lining to this cloud. Located diagonally across from Dixie Belle's, it appears as a drive-through coffee shop from the outside. But since I had just gotten in a workout and felt especially fit, I decided to walk across the parking lot and into the establishment, rather than make the 3 second drive. I'm glad I did. Really nice space - instantly felt relaxed. Great color choice - like a tropical blue sky - gave a very laid-back feel. Inspirational quotes painted on the wall along with others hanging above you add to this unique little coffee shop's appeal: Starbucks, this is not. Recently found out about this cute little place and have stopped by several times. They have a decent variety of flavors and options for your coffee as well as some pastries and breakfast items. Pricing is similar to other shops in the area. The flavor of the coffee is better than Starbucks, in my opinion. Not to bitter or strong. I want to give more stars, but I have not enjoyed the last 5 drinks I have ordered. I have been going to wake zone for YEARS. I keep thinking it's an off day, but I have come to realize it's not for me anymore :( they have many different espresso drinks. They also have Gluten free brownies. The coffee has become too milky. The mochas taste like chocolate milk and zero espresso. The cold brew is bitter. I will most likely be back in the future with hopes my coffee tastes like it has coffee in it. read more

Absolutely love this coffee shop! Such cute decor, employees are always accommodating and upbeat. I usually get the frozen (blended) wake zone mocha which never disappoints. Today when I went I went through the drive thru and ordered a bagel with my drink, once I got to the pick up window however I was informed they were out of bagels so I got a muffin instead. I just wanted to take a moment and share my rebuttal from Vanessa M. I am in this shop Monday through Friday to order the best Americano I've ever had for the lowest price. Their coffee is always phenomenal (which she didn't deny.) AND the staff, especially Mark and Heather always are smiling. Here's my take on the situation, I'm in within an hour of the store opening so the rush hasn't begun yet. I am a chef at a local corporation where we serve the food we make and are feeding 1,000 people in 2.5 hours. When you're that swamped it's hard to keep a cheery, bubbly look about you, ALL THE TIME so perhaps she's arriving during the rush. And really even if the coffee was crappy, (which it's not) I'd go based on service. It's a bummer to see a negative review about a place I love so much and couldn't complain if I tried.
