I am pretty disappointed in the visit that I made to Wake and Late today. While the restaurant itself is super cute and aesthetic, the inside setting was a bit disappointing. The seating area almost felt like a cafeteria/food court setting due to the mismatched chairs and the tin tables and the screen blocking off the seating area from the service area. I truly don't understand how it's possible for a place to be charging this much money on their food but not be able to hire enough staff to make the food. An hour wait for an online order is just crazy. They just need to figure out how to streamline their process so that people are not waiting 45min-1hr for 1 bagel. Pasadena has some of the best architecture and this location is no exception. Just walking to this store you pass by so many beautiful buildings and churches. I love the atmosphere and interior of this place. Also opening two huge golden doors to enter into this building to get the best breakfast burrito you've ever had isn't a bad touch. I need to start by saying the staff and service here is amazing!!! I had this preconceived notion that since this place is so popular and a good staple that the service would be pretentious and give off a "you are lucky to eat here" like unfortunately so many foodie influenced places do BUT NOT HERE. I had seriously the best experience and the staff are so friendly, welcoming, and gracious. The store lead Irene helped me and she was such a doll. She made me love this spot since the moment I walked in. She was bubbly, friendly and even took the time to engage me in conversation since no one was behind me. We need more Irene's in the world. Also this restaurant is straight out of the script from The Bear. While I waited for my food I loved hearing the loud banter of the kitchen staff yelling Yes Chef back and forth. Also did I mention when I walked in the entire kitchen team gave me a loud yell and welcome? So cool. This place totally exceeded my expectations. Clearly the people that work here love what they do and are passionate about the brand. Now to what everyone wanted to know. How good was the food? Like I said THE BEST. These breakfast burritos have yet to be beat in my books. They are phenomenal and while simple really in nature, no one else seems to have perfected a breakfast burrito like they have. I opted for the famous bacon breakfast burrito. It comes with two sauces and is wrapped up very cutesy- very demure. A 10/10 bite and construction of the perfect breakfast burrito. The tortilla is uber soft and the scrambled eggs are too. What I love is this isn't a heavy, overdone egg burrito. Really the main stars are the has downs and bacon which is what you taste. The bacon is extra crispy and they have a bunch of crispy finely cut bacon bites which make this so much better than when a place puts long undercooked bacon strips in. The extra crunchy bacon bites are genius and the tator tots are extra crispy. The final ingredient is mashed avocado, chefs kiss perfection. The sauces are also all made in house and delicious. My favorite was the chipotle aioli. Creamy, light spice, fantastic. The second sauce I got was the creamy cilantro sauce, even though I don't love cilantro it was a good sauce and milder than the chipotle, both were so good. I washed down my meal with an iced matcha latte. It was a good latte, no frills, nothing special but an overall good latte. I was happy for the pairing. I 100% think the price point is worth how delicious this meal is. Yes you can pay less for a massive burrito somewhere else but it just wouldn't be the same. This was a quality burrito from start to finish, allowing me to rank it "the best" and honestly I need to get back here soon because I can't stop thinking about it. Parking: We parked at a near by public parking spot that you can just walk less than 5 min and pay when you get back, not too bad of price. Tried this spot in old town Pasadena because it was in the same building as my gym. I asked if they had a vegan breakfast burrito and although it's not listed on the menu, they gladly modified their regular one by taking out the eggs and cheddar cheese. They asked if I wanted to add pickled jalapeño and I'm glad I did. The burrito was tasty, but my major complaint was that it only about the third of the size of a traditional breakfast burrito. For the price point, it left me wishing there was more. Truth be told, with their modest size, I probably could have eaten three of them. Came here on a Sunday after constantly seeing a line out the door whenever I drive by this place. I shared a steak burrito with my friend. The first thing that caught my eye was the price tag of $19 for the burrito, very overpriced in my opinion, even by Pasadena standards. The burrito was a bit smaller than I would've liked, but the flavor and ingredients were well thought out. The cilantro dip that came with the burrito was also a very nice touch that added some complexity to the burrito. I have a new favorite breakfast burrito spot. Let's get the basics out of the way first--it's not cheap. Total came out to about $65, and parking is only street parking. Inside, it's a bit loud--the music's definitely on the higher end--but there's a decent amount of seating. The place is spotless, though, and the employees? Super friendly, all smiles, great energy. Now let's talk about the burrito. The breakfast burrito was insane. The tater tots were so goddamn crispy, same with the bacon--everything inside was just working perfectly together. Add to that how clean the spot is, and it somehow makes the food taste even better. The cilantro sauce? Fire. The chipotle sauce? Even better. We also got an onion bagel that had these perfectly caramelized onions baked right in--unreal. We ordered two cream cheeses--one with scallions (delicious), and the other one called the Lox (with salmon), and that one was to die for. They have a no tip policy which is nice, shows that they pay their employees good. The burrito does look small, but don't let it fool you, it is definitely filling! Everything was great. The bagels and cream cheese here are incredible! It is crispy on the outside and super soft and airy on the inside of their bagels. I love that the bagels don't feel super dense and taste so good with any of their cream cheese spreads. The spreads come in a cute little container so you can load your bagel with cream cheese to your hearts desire. I had this for a picnics and it was nice that you can order online which makes for a quick pickup and go meal. I tried their sweet onion bagel and Parmesan bagel with their lox cream cheese and scallion cream cheese. My favorite combination is the sweet onion bagel with the lox cream cheese! There are small bits of lox in the cream cheese and it goes so well with the subtle sweetness of the sweet onion bagel. I also got their drip coffee which tasted a bit watered down and their matcha latte with oatmilk which I also did not enjoy because of the overpowering taste of the oatmilk and slight graininess of the matcha, so their drinks are a hard pass for me. I am not sure how they do it, but they have created my favorite breakfast burrito (and it's the vegetarian one). Walk through the opulent double doors immediately to the marble checkout counter. The butcher block-accented pastry display is minimally stocked with a daily selection of baked goods. To the left, mismatched wooden chairs are pressed up against grey patio tables A line of screen panels separates the dining area from the vast kitchen and bakery. The few additional seats within the order pickup area to the right are far outnumbered by the mob of queuing patrons. The aroma of bacon dominates the air, and retro tunes echo around the sky-high, minimally decorated walls. My partner and I arrived mid-morning for weekend breakfast, and we were surprised by the line stretching out the door. After ordering, we faced a 15-minute wait, as orders were called out sequentially. We were handed a nondescript paper bag, warm from the freshly cooked treats within. The bagels were shaped more like softballs, sporting a slightly crispy blistered crust and pillowy sourdough heart. Of our duo, I preferred the flavor-forward Sweet Onion, but the rich, salty Parm was no slouch either. Our sides of cream cheese were portioned in separate takeout cups, and the generous portions never left me needing to ration. The Lox CC had a moderate portion of salmon, and an otherwise subdued dill-forward flavor; I was partial to the bold Scallion CC. I returned one sleepy weekday morning to sample the signature Steak Burrito. Right off the bat, I recognized the premium components wrapped within a thin yet sturdy tortilla. I was most impressed with the tender, well-marinated carne asada and the extra crispy tater tots. The fresh avocado chunks were a welcome addition, but they would have been better in thinner, bite-sized slices. The fried eggs were fine but I would have preferred the eggs to be scrambled and fluffy. The side of hot sauce brought a rich heat but left me wanting more acidity. And, most notably, the sushi roll-sized portion failed to fill my decent appetite. Wake and Late institutes an eyebrow-raising $20 price floor (the minimum food order is 2 bagels and 2 spreads).
