I stumbled on this spot while working in the area and have been there 5 times this past year for lunch so this review is long overdue. Located in the busy Clarendon area of downtown Arlington this spot is quaint, cute and gets quite busy. I started with the Chilli Hoisin Duck Bao Bun which was hot, fluffy and savory. Their motto is " from bowl to soul" and this is hands down the BEST Ramen I've ever had. The Spicy Pork Szechuan ramen had so much flavor and definitely warmed my soul! The Spicy chicken broth along with the szechuan ground pork makes the dish, and the broth was rich & savory. The pork flavor was strong and the teriyaki took it up a notch. Mmmm mmm good. The ramen is very hearty but you can't stop eating it. Oh yeah the Banana Katsu with salted caramel ice cream is a great dessert to close out this meal. Always a solid spot for a meal. The restaurant is always clean and I always have good service. One thing to note is that not all of the seating is comfortable. I would ask for a booth/regular seating if you don't want to sit on the high top stools. I tried the mushroom and eggplant bao for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I could definitely eat more than two of these. The chicken katsu curry is a generous portion size and I took some home. I got a cocktail which was about $10 before tax and I got curry which was $19.50. They also have $35 pitchers that serve six. * Food and Drinks: I got the Chicken Katsu Curry and did spicy. I think the spice mainly came from the pepper flakes in the sauce rather than the curry itself which I do not prefer but it wasn't bad. Next time I would just go for the regular. The chicken katsu is on the thinner side but there are many pieces. My friend and I got the lychee and blood orange sangria ten out of ten would get again and the lychee martini which was a bit too strong for me but still good. The presentation of both the food and drinks was stunning and very visually appealing. The server recommended we try the ube espresso martini next time so that will be on the list. * Cleanliness and Setting: Wood vibes and it is nice that you can see the kitchen I think that adds to the experience. Very clean as well minimalistic. * Service: The server was amazing and helped my friend with recommendations since she is vegetarian. We got our drinks and food relatively quickly. I love Wagamama! They are a restaurant that is super generous with their portions and the service is outstanding! I first heard about Wagamama through promotion at OneLife fitness, where they gave out free appetizers. When I visited the restaurant, the owner/manager recognized me from the gym and personally came by to chat with me. The service was totally exceptional. The food was fresh and the calamari was amazing. I'm gluten sensitive so they were able to swap out the ramen noodles for rice noodles. Well.....let me not be TOO harsh. It may not have completely sucked...my food choice just may not have been the best. First, I started off with chicken pot stickers and the dipping sauce was immaculate but the stickers themselves, sadly, came out warm to the touch. I also got the spicy pork szechuan ramen. The noodles were outstanding and to my surprise, the well seasoned (but salty) pork belly was diced up into smaller pieces. I liked this spin to the ramen but overall the broth was wayyy too salty. I cannot imagine fiery because hot was pretty legit! Wonder if they can mix half mild and half hot. Good flavor but it will set you on fire just a smidge. Very large portion and can be shared. I've been wanting to try this spot for months now and finally had a moment to stop in. It was a late Saturday lunch for me after a movie. I've been to Wagamama in NY and Dallas, Texas and absolutely loved it so my review might be a bit biased since was kinda comparing my previous experiences. When I first got news that one was opening in Arlington, I was super excited because the food in general is fire. The service here was pretty good. We got sake flights, the Bang Bang Cauliflower, the Spicy Salmon Teriyaki soba noodles and the Avant Gard'n vegan rice bowl. The sake flights were really good, the Mio Sparkling was my favorite of the 3. Unfortunately, the cauliflower was not good. It's something I order whenever I see it on a menu so I've had it quite a number of times and I'm familiar with the different variations of how it should taste. It was pretty dry despite it being tossed in sauce and it was flavorless. It tasted like they topped it with a paper thin layer of sauce and then put it in an oven for 20 mins. The salmon and noodles were really nice! I think its become my favorite dish. I could definitely see myself coming back here specifically for this meal. The Avant Gard'n seemed to be good as well, aside from the vegan egg. The texture may need a bit of work, but as far as the rice bowl itself, they loved it, esp the glazed seitan. I recently tried Wagamama with some friends and we opted for the tasting menu. This may be something you have to ask the server for - it's $30 per person for a multi-course meal that includes drinks. In my opinion, this is a great deal! And everyone in your party is not obligated to get the tasting menu. A few of my friends opted to just order al a carte, but everyone had a great experience! For the tasting menu, you get steamed edamame, a blossom cocktail, a bao bun, a sake flight and a choice of noodles or katsu curry for the main entree. Vegan options are also available. The blossom cocktail was lychee flavored and was so fruity and refreshing. The bao buns were exceptionally soft and both the vegan and non- vegan options were packed with flavor! I opted for the yakisoba noodles while my partner tried the curry. I would say the curry seems like a better choice because the flavor is so rich, but the noodles were still good, despite being a bit basic. One of my friends ordered the short rib ramen off the regular dinner menu, and he thought it was delicious. The restaurant was filling up quickly on a Saturday evening. While our server was extremely attentive, the kitchen did slow down and some of our dishes took a very long time to come out. Once the missing drink was finally brought out, it had been quite a wait, which made the experience feel disjointed. Chicken Dumplings: These were solid--nicely cooked with a pleasant ginger flavor. They were good but nothing extraordinary. I'd probably try a different dumpling next time just to mix it up. Crispy Rice: This was not great,lacked flavor probably wouldn't order this one again. Bao Buns: Fried Chicken: The bao bun itself was soft and had a great texture. The chicken had good flavor but was on the dry side. Hoisin Duck: These were the standout. Really flavorful and definitely something I'd order again. Despite the pepper icon on the menu, they weren't very spicy. Noodle Dish with Seabass: This was a miss for me. While the seabass was cooked well, it lacked flavor and didn't really taste like it had any miso glaze. The noodles were overly oily, which threw off the dish. Thankfully, the sauces on the table helped bring out more flavor (though they added a bit of heat). Bang Bang Cauliflower: This was a nice surprise--spicy and savory (not sweet like I expected), but really tasty and well-cooked. A good starter if you're into heat. Overall: The food had some hits and some misses, but the service was what really brought the experience down. Yo this new place in Clarendon is bomb. They took over the building OZ formerly occupied and they're a UK based restaurant expanding over here in the US. Solid establishment, ordered food and it did take a minute because the style of service is first come first serve/as soon as it's made it comes out. They emphasize FRESH so no heat lamps and no microwaves in house at the restaurant. At the large scale there's bound to be issues so expect that. I have seen the wagamama logo several times when travelling so I was excited when one popped up in Arlington. This restaurant seems to have a little something for everyone whether you are looking for a morning juice, casual work lunch, or happy hour meetup with friends. I met up with a few coworkers and we enjoyed communal plates of their calamari, ahi tuna nachos, gyoza, and baos. Everything we tried was tasty but not outstanding and honestly that's okay and probably their sweet spot. Then they got the drink order wrong, which is no big deal but the server kept trying to keep the drink on our table to keep it. We explained the issue and they corrected the drink but i waited another 15 minutes. The food being delivered was also very slow. $10 for about 8 cauliflower and the dumplings chicken and pork were chewy and cold by the time we got them. I thought the ramen lacked flavor and a lot of noodles were stuck together in chunks. Additionally, all of the dishes came out at different times so some of us didn't really eat together. I've waited decades for a Wagamama to open in DC and it's my own expectations that it can't live up to. I love the teriyaki steak yaki soba but it's not in the us menu. Food (3/5): I tried the shrimp yaki soba but the noodles were congealed and mushy. The shrimp wasn't seasoned and there was a vein left in one of the shrimp.
