    71. chicken katsu curry
    Monika B.

STUNNING PRESENTATION OF MENU ITEMS + VEGAN AND VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY * Price: Expect to pay around $18 to $24 for entree items. I got a cocktail which was about $10 before tax and I got curry which was $19.50. They also have $35 pitchers that serve six. * Food and Drinks: I got the Chicken Katsu Curry and did spicy. I think the spice mainly came from the pepper flakes in the sauce rather than the curry itself which I do not prefer but it wasn't bad. Next time I would just go for the regular. The chicken katsu is on the thinner side but there are many pieces. My friend and I got the lychee and blood orange sangria ten out of ten would get again and the lychee martini which was a bit too strong for me but still good. The presentation of both the food and drinks was stunning and very visually appealing. The server recommended we try the ube espresso martini next time so that will be on the list. * Cleanliness and Setting: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wood vibes and it is nice that you can see the kitchen I think that adds to the experience. Very clean as well minimalistic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] * Service: The server was amazing and helped my friend with recommendations since she is vegetarian. We got our drinks and food relatively quickly. Unfortunately he had to leave since we came in mid shift so we got a new server and it took a while to get our check after we finished eating but they were very friendly. I would come back again to maybe try something different like the ramen.

I love Wagamama! They are a restaurant that is super generous with their portions and the service is outstanding! I first heard about Wagamama through promotion at OneLife fitness, where they gave out free appetizers. When I visited the restaurant, the owner/manager recognized me from the gym and personally came by to chat with me. The service was totally exceptional. The food was fresh and the calamari was amazing. I'm gluten sensitive so they were able to swap out the ramen noodles for rice noodles. Overall it was incredible experience, and I'll be back, especially to try their juices!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior was very clean and had a warm, wooden aesthetic with Japanese artwork decorating the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The hostess was polite, though she didn't seem particularly enthusiastic. Our server, on the other hand, was friendly and attentive, checking in with us throughout the meal, which I really appreciated. The "Positive" juice had a refreshing, clean flavor. The Namu Spicy Tuna was a light and satisfying dish, perfect for lunch. The pork bao buns were good. I would come back and try the other bao buns next time.

This restaurant is located directly in the Clarendon area of Arlington. The entree portions are large and yummy pair them with a fresh squeezed juice or a cocktail and it's a perfect night out. 1 block from the metro station super convenient!

Just as the many other reviews highlight, this place is worth visiting. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance at Wagamama was inviting and vibrant modern decor, warm lighting, and an open, relaxed atmosphere that immediately set the tone for a great meal. The service was top-notch attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff made sure everything was perfect without being intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Fresh ingredients, bold tastes, and generous portions each bite was a treat. Highly recommend Wagamama for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Will definitely be returning!

Enjoyed a weeknight night at Wagamama, let's get into it.... Food: good but not wowed! Hot Chicken Katsu: 4/5 hot means hot! There are three levels mild, hot and fiery. I cannot imagine fiery because hot was pretty legit! Wonder if they can mix half mild and half hot. Good flavor but it will set you on fire just a smidge. Very large portion and can be shared. Tokyo Fries: 4/5 not what I was expecting at all. The "fries" are more like strings. Thinner than shoestring fries. Almost thin chip , idk look at the picture. But it was still flavorful! Banana Katsu: 5/5 loved this dessert!! It is a pretty small portion so not shareable but the salted caramel ice cream and perfectly fried bananas are great! Will be back for this alone! Service: restaurant was not full or half. Little delay in being greeted by a waiter. Most tables are stools or benches. I need back support so got a table with a booth back on the other side.

Pleasantly surprised, stumbled onto this place while trying to find brunch on a Sunday without an hour long wait. This is in Clarendon so street parking and garages around. They were very accommodating and allowed our pup inside, giving her a bowl of water as well. Loved that they are dog friendly (for well behaved puppers). We ordered the Matcha Mule and the Vietnamese Espresso Martini. I also ordered the Balance juice and an immunity booster shot. Loved the Vietnamese Espresso Martini, matcha Mule wasn't bad. Drinks did take awhile to come, actually came after our appetizer (Pork Belly + Panko Apple Bao Buns). The bao buns were pretty good but seemed to be missing something, maybe some hoisin sauce or something. For our mains, I ordered the Miso Cod Soba and my husband ordered the Grilled Duck Ramen. The duck was so tender and pulled right off the bone. The Miso Cod Soba was delicious and full of flavor. We also ordered a kids grilled chicken katsu and rice (veggies on the side) for our pup which they had no issues accommodating. For dessert we ordered a matcha cheesecake which was light and fluffy. It was pretty good. Overall, the food was delicious and service was friendly. I loved how accommodating they were for our dog. Would definitely come back.

    Spicy Pork Szechuan Ramen

I went to Wagamama today and I probably would not go back...I am a sucker for asian fusion, but this time I felt I really was suckered...for the sake of great ambiance. Well.....let me not be TOO harsh. It may not have completely sucked...my food choice just may not have been the best. First, I started off with chicken pot stickers and the dipping sauce was immaculate but the stickers themselves, sadly, came out warm to the touch. I also got the spicy pork szechuan ramen. The noodles were outstanding and to my surprise, the well seasoned (but salty) pork belly was diced up into smaller pieces. I liked this spin to the ramen but overall the broth was wayyy too salty. I would appreciated a better balance to the spicy flavoring to a savory broth. If you get this ramen, do not forget to drink lots of water. Service was good and lychee sangria was great. My sister had the salmon with noodles and I will say, that tasted outstanding. Overall, a strong 3.25/5.

Excellent ramen and dining experience! I had the tantanmen beef brisket ramen which was super flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The noodles were also really good. I prefer a traditional ramen or spa egg so the tea stained egg was a bit of a letdown but otherwise it was a great dish! Service here is also top notch

We came across Wagamama while we were walking to dinner in Arlington. Ironically, the restaurant we were walking to was closed that day so we went back to try Wagamama. - Tantanmen Beef Brisket -- asked for kimchi on the side - Kare Burosu - Wagamama Salad -- added tofu The inside is warmly lit with a modern but cozy patmosphere. My friend was on a vegetarian diet that day so I really appreciate how thorough the server was with the menu suggestions. The broth of the tantanmen was flavorful and I loved the tea-stained egg! Overall, it was a great experience with amazing service!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant sits right on a Main Street corner, easy to spot with clear signs from both sides, super convenient to find.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried the Wagamama salad and seared tuna appetizer, both fresh and full of flavor. The salad came with steak and duck such a hearty, filling combo that really hit the spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was friendly, food came out quickly, and everything felt clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely a place I'd return to again. generous portions and satisfying meal. great spot for anyone craving something fresh, flavorful, and comforting.

We went for my birthday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space and ambiance was beauutiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was helpful explaining the dishes and was very prompt. Dishes were served as they were ready. We enjoyed appetizers of calamari, steamed pork gyoza and pork and apple bao buns. I enjoyed the steak bulgogi as my main dish. We split the custard dessert for my birthday. My family enjoyed their dishes, too. I would love to visit again when I'm in DC.

    Chilling @ the bar!!

I remember this place from my travels abroad and once I discovered one was in VA I was floored!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went kind of late which was perfect for me because it wasn't crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hence, the service was attentive and speedy. My food and cocktail were delicious and I even had leftovers for the next day. Five star!!

    Ask the Community - Wagamama

Do I need a reservation I want to come around lunchtime?

No, you should be able to walk in and request a seat. However you may need to wait a bit depending on how busy they are. If you are short on time I'd recommend making a reservation just in case.

Do they allow small dogs in the outdoor seating area?

Yes, understand that they don't have heaters and tables can't be moved.

Any ideas when this will open? NYC said October. It's January now.

After the ticketed grand opening celebration on August 1st, the restaurant will be serving dinner that weekend. They will then begin serving lunch on Monday, and finally opening daily from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

I must've had 15 pieces of nigiri. Having worked in a sushi restaurant I can tell you it was phenomenally well done. Beautifully fresh and buttery and the sushi rice was perfect. The eel kamameshi was a highlight and came with a showing amount of eel. Finished everything off with the matcha tiramisu and a cup of green tea. I won't need to eat for days. Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Kay and team!

The set- up and the ambiance is very comfortable and sleek/modern with the main sushi chefs in the middle and the tables around them. The tables have waiters and a tablet at the table like most hot pot/kbbq places and you can order everything off of there. I have only been here once and wanted to try to low tier without going "all in" on the top tier option of diamond without knowing how the basics would taste. Let me say if the bottom tier was as good as it was, I'm excited to come back to try the next tier! Anyway, the basic tier already comes with a lot of sushi options and should be enough for those who are craving just sushi. All of the cuts of nigiri was great, all tender with great flavor, but what stood out to me the most was actually the yellowtail, super buttery and great flavor. The eel was also a top choice! All the rolls were good basic to the fancier ones, I would say that most of the bang for the buck would be the nigiri. The rolls are good but a little too much rice for me personally. The appetizers, didn't spend too much time on them but the chicken karaage was solid and the seaweed salad was my two favorite. Overall, super solid for the price and I'd totally want to go again to try more of their options! 100% recommend!

Whenever I go, I always order off the most premium tier and while it is pricey at $98 per person, I believe that it is completely worth the money. I've actually done the math totaling up how much we ate and what it would've been al le carte and it totaled to $400-500 total for two people so this is well worth it. The items I would highly recommend is everything off their wagyu tier, the wagyu fried rice, and their specialty rolls. Don't forget to end the meal off with some dessert as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the matcha crepe cake. This place is very modern and with an amazing staff that is super attentive. Water cup was always filled, they came back quick to ask what we wanted next (no waiting around necessary), cooked our meat perfectly for us. My husband and I dined in for the first time today, and we were both very impressed with the atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Hayden was our server, and he showed exemplary hospitality skills. He made us feel welcome, checked in on us frequently without feeling overbearing, and made sure we knew the AYCE menu is double-sided. Speaking of, the AYCE is such a great deal! I used to live in Vegas, where AYCE sushi is very common. Unfortunately, for most of them, since the focus is on quantity, the quality suffers. This is not the case for Toryumon! Maybe it's because it isn't strictly an AYCE place. You can absolutely order items a-la-carte from their regular menu (as I had done previously for take-out). The items are exactly the same whether you order from the regular menu or the AYCE. Same quality, and, this is important, same size! Yes, you will receive a FULL-SIZED bowl of ramen if you order it from the AYCE menu. Not all of the menu items have descriptions, and I was surprised by some of them (not in a bad way, just wasn't what I was expecting), such as: The avocado salad. I was expecting it to be cubes/chunks of avocado tossed with a dressing. What came out was a lettuce salad with sliced avocado on top. The dressing was good, slightly sweet. It was a good salad, just not at all what I was expecting. The sweet potato sushi roll is served warm, the sweet potato is deep fried, and there is eel sauce on top. The sweet potato rolls I had other places were not fried, and served cold. I really enjoyed this one! Everything seemed very fresh, not a hint of wilting greens or brown avocado to be seen! I am so grateful to live right down the road from this amazing establishment. If you enjoy ramen, sushi, and other Japanese items, def give them a try! There are bathrooms available for guests. What my stars mean: 5 is outstanding, memorable, a place to write home about! A must-experience. Someplace I would love to recommend to tourists, and visit myself again and again. 4 is great, somewhere I'd love to return again and again. Back-up recommendation for tourists. 3 is good. A solid option if I am in the area. I may recommend to locals, but would probably leave it off my list of recommendations for tourists. 2 is ok, but only because it a great value, unique, and/or convenient. 1 means I would not return.

First off, if you miss the parking lot, it was a bit confusing so we ended up making a circle before finding the additional parking lot further before the restaurant, but we did end up parking in the lot next to the restaurant. Getting in and out of that space was not easy with that annoying red light right at the corner. When we walked in, we were greeted right away. Asked if we had reservations which we didn't but they did take a bit of time to seat us. Upon sitting down, we walked by the mini buffet of appetizers and desserts, along with the cooler of drinks. (The cooler was not cold, but held room temperature drinks, I had to ask for cups of ice which took a while) We sat and contemplated if we wanted to splurge on the higher package which we ended up doing any way because our neighbors who were also on a date and was there for the first time was testing the higher package also, so we went all out! There is a limit to how much you order and there is a 10 minute wait in-between each order and how many items you can order. Our server was very helpful and had walked us through the process. The cheesy lobster was so small, we ate it in one bite, and it's only one per table. The wagyu sandwiches were great, but lacked flavor. The creamy udon...was all cream. The best dish on the premium menu were the spoons of wagyu and toro, and the steamed clams in whatever broth. Shabu-Shabu with wagyu was okay. Broth flavor was decent, nothing overly memorable. I did like that it was all you can eat sushi and they had all you can eat Uni which is a plus, but you can tell the quality was not as great as expected. We didn't even bother with the rolls, since it would have limited us from the others, but then I wonder if we would have been better ordering the gazillion sushi roll options. They did great presentation-wise, but would I spend the money on the top package option? No. it was definitely a novelty dinner, something you try one time and say you've tried but maybe my expectations were high because of how I was sold on IG and TikTok. Even my boyfriend was upset with how I talked up the place. To top off the evening, I asked for matcha crepe cake and they brought me match cheesecake. I hate cheesecake. We did enjoy the hot sake! The place was busy and don't get me wrong, it's not horrible but I think I'm more upset for the price I paid for the quality I received. If the service wasn't decent, I would have given it less stars but maybe I came on a bad night and the Chefs were just not loving their cooking. Would I drive the hour and half to go back? Definitely not. I do hope they improve their quality and items. Just my experience here...

Service and good and quick but we were the only ones in the restaurant. Their AC was broken though and they only had fans so it was super hot

I finally tried Gyu-Kaku in Clarendon, and as someone who usually goes to KBBQ spots (especially…read moreMeat Project, which is still my favorite), I was curious to see how Japanese BBQ compared. First off, I do think everyone should try Japanese BBQ at least once just to experience the difference for themselves. We got the Premium AYCE option. It's advertised around $45, but after tax, drinks, and everything else, it definitely ends up being more expensive than that. We also ordered the lychee sake, which was really good and probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. One thing I really liked was the atmosphere. The restaurant has a nice, intimate feel because a lot of the tables and booths are separated, so it feels more private than your typical BBQ spot. The lighting also adds to the vibe and makes it feel cozy without being too dark. We don't eat pork, so we mostly focused on the beef options. Personally, when I'm doing all-you-can-eat, I don't really want to fill up on chicken or seafood. My biggest takeaway is that while there are a ton of different marinades and menu options, a lot of the beef cuts ended up tasting pretty similar to me. The differences felt more like thickness or texture rather than completely different flavors. Maybe I'm not cultured enough in Japanese BBQ to appreciate all the nuances, but that's honestly how it came across to me. At the end of the day, I think I still prefer Korean BBQ. For me, the overall experience isn't different enough to justify paying significantly more. I'd probably rather save $20 and go get KBBQ instead. One thing worth mentioning is that both of us felt pretty sick afterward. mostly nauseous and overly full. To be clear, I don't think there was anything wrong with the food. We probably just overdid it, which is easy to do at an AYCE spot. The standout part of the experience was definitely the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Honestly, the customer service is the main reason I'd consider coming back. Also, sorry for the lack of photos. I was way too hungry and focused on eating to remember to take any. Overall: good experience, great service, tasty drinks, nice ambiance, but I personally still prefer KBBQ.

If you've read my last review, you know my partner-in-crime from work and I are on a mission to…read morefind new restaurants near the office and take a break from the usual chain spots. That's how we ended up at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ. We were immediately greeted with a friendly welcome when we walked in and decided to sit at the bar since we were a bit short on time before heading back to the office. After the menu was explained, the biggest highlight was learning they offer happy hour on both food and drinks every day until 8 PM (if I remember correctly). Happy hour *every day*? I'm sold! For this visit, we decided to try a little bit of everything from the happy hour menu: - Spicy Cabbage Salad** - easily my favorite - Miso Chili & Black Pepper Wings** - flavorful and cooked perfectly - Fried Cheese Wontons** - good, but could've definitely used some crab to give it that classic crab rangoon vibes - Spicy Tuna Volcano** - unfortunately my least favorite; it lacked flavor and I wasn't a fan of the crispy fried rice texture Overall, I'll definitely be back especially for happy hour after work to try more items on the menu.
