    71. chicken katsu curry
    Monika B.

STUNNING PRESENTATION OF MENU ITEMS + VEGAN AND VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY * Price: Expect to pay around $18 to $24 for entree items. I got a cocktail which was about $10 before tax and I got curry which was $19.50. They also have $35 pitchers that serve six. * Food and Drinks: I got the Chicken Katsu Curry and did spicy. I think the spice mainly came from the pepper flakes in the sauce rather than the curry itself which I do not prefer but it wasn't bad. Next time I would just go for the regular. The chicken katsu is on the thinner side but there are many pieces. My friend and I got the lychee and blood orange sangria ten out of ten would get again and the lychee martini which was a bit too strong for me but still good. The presentation of both the food and drinks was stunning and very visually appealing. The server recommended we try the ube espresso martini next time so that will be on the list. * Cleanliness and Setting: Wood vibes and it is nice that you can see the kitchen I think that adds to the experience. Very clean as well minimalistic. * Service: The server was amazing and helped my friend with recommendations since she is vegetarian. We got our drinks and food relatively quickly. Unfortunately he had to leave since we came in mid shift so we got a new server and it took a while to get our check after we finished eating but they were very friendly. I would come back again to maybe try something different like the ramen.

I love Wagamama! They are a restaurant that is super generous with their portions and the service is outstanding! I first heard about Wagamama through promotion at OneLife fitness, where they gave out free appetizers. When I visited the restaurant, the owner/manager recognized me from the gym and personally came by to chat with me. The service was totally exceptional. The food was fresh and the calamari was amazing. I'm gluten sensitive so they were able to swap out the ramen noodles for rice noodles. Overall it was incredible experience, and I'll be back, especially to try their juices!

    Spicy Pork Szechuan Ramen

I went to Wagamama today and I probably would not go back...I am a sucker for asian fusion, but this time I felt I really was suckered...for the sake of great ambiance. Well.....let me not be TOO harsh. It may not have completely sucked...my food choice just may not have been the best. First, I started off with chicken pot stickers and the dipping sauce was immaculate but the stickers themselves, sadly, came out warm to the touch. I also got the spicy pork szechuan ramen. The noodles were outstanding and to my surprise, the well seasoned (but salty) pork belly was diced up into smaller pieces. I liked this spin to the ramen but overall the broth was wayyy too salty. I would appreciated a better balance to the spicy flavoring to a savory broth. If you get this ramen, do not forget to drink lots of water. Service was good and lychee sangria was great. My sister had the salmon with noodles and I will say, that tasted outstanding. Overall, a strong 3.25/5.

The interior was very clean and had a warm, wooden aesthetic with Japanese artwork decorating the walls. The hostess was polite, though she didn't seem particularly enthusiastic. Our server, on the other hand, was friendly and attentive, checking in with us throughout the meal, which I really appreciated. The "Positive" juice had a refreshing, clean flavor. The Namu Spicy Tuna was a light and satisfying dish, perfect for lunch. The pork bao buns were good. I would come back and try the other bao buns next time.

This restaurant is located directly in the Clarendon area of Arlington. The entree portions are large and yummy pair them with a fresh squeezed juice or a cocktail and it's a perfect night out. 1 block from the metro station super convenient!

Just as the many other reviews highlight, this place is worth visiting. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance at Wagamama was inviting and vibrant modern decor, warm lighting, and an open, relaxed atmosphere that immediately set the tone for a great meal. The service was top-notch attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff made sure everything was perfect without being intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Fresh ingredients, bold tastes, and generous portions each bite was a treat. Highly recommend Wagamama for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Will definitely be returning!

Enjoyed a weeknight night at Wagamama, let's get into it.... Food: good but not wowed! Hot Chicken Katsu: 4/5 hot means hot! There are three levels mild, hot and fiery. I cannot imagine fiery because hot was pretty legit! Wonder if they can mix half mild and half hot. Good flavor but it will set you on fire just a smidge. Very large portion and can be shared. Tokyo Fries: 4/5 not what I was expecting at all. The "fries" are more like strings. Thinner than shoestring fries. Almost thin chip , idk look at the picture. But it was still flavorful! Banana Katsu: 5/5 loved this dessert!! It is a pretty small portion so not shareable but the salted caramel ice cream and perfectly fried bananas are great! Will be back for this alone! Service: restaurant was not full or half. Little delay in being greeted by a waiter. Most tables are stools or benches. I need back support so got a table with a booth back on the other side.

Pleasantly surprised, stumbled onto this place while trying to find brunch on a Sunday without an hour long wait. This is in Clarendon so street parking and garages around. They were very accommodating and allowed our pup inside, giving her a bowl of water as well. Loved that they are dog friendly (for well behaved puppers). We ordered the Matcha Mule and the Vietnamese Espresso Martini. I also ordered the Balance juice and an immunity booster shot. Loved the Vietnamese Espresso Martini, matcha Mule wasn't bad. Drinks did take awhile to come, actually came after our appetizer (Pork Belly + Panko Apple Bao Buns). The bao buns were pretty good but seemed to be missing something, maybe some hoisin sauce or something. For our mains, I ordered the Miso Cod Soba and my husband ordered the Grilled Duck Ramen. The duck was so tender and pulled right off the bone. The Miso Cod Soba was delicious and full of flavor. We also ordered a kids grilled chicken katsu and rice (veggies on the side) for our pup which they had no issues accommodating. For dessert we ordered a matcha cheesecake which was light and fluffy. It was pretty good. Overall, the food was delicious and service was friendly. I loved how accommodating they were for our dog. Would definitely come back.

Excellent ramen and dining experience! I had the tantanmen beef brisket ramen which was super flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The noodles were also really good. I prefer a traditional ramen or spa egg so the tea stained egg was a bit of a letdown but otherwise it was a great dish! Service here is also top notch

We came across Wagamama while we were walking to dinner in Arlington. Ironically, the restaurant we were walking to was closed that day so we went back to try Wagamama. - Tantanmen Beef Brisket -- asked for kimchi on the side - Kare Burosu - Wagamama Salad -- added tofu The inside is warmly lit with a modern but cozy patmosphere. My friend was on a vegetarian diet that day so I really appreciate how thorough the server was with the menu suggestions. The broth of the tantanmen was flavorful and I loved the tea-stained egg! Overall, it was a great experience with amazing service!

The restaurant sits right on a Main Street corner, easy to spot with clear signs from both sides, super convenient to find. I tried the Wagamama salad and seared tuna appetizer, both fresh and full of flavor. The salad came with steak and duck such a hearty, filling combo that really hit the spot. Service was friendly, food came out quickly, and everything felt clean. Definitely a place I'd return to again. generous portions and satisfying meal. great spot for anyone craving something fresh, flavorful, and comforting.

We went for my birthday. The space and ambiance was beauutiful. Our server was helpful explaining the dishes and was very prompt. Dishes were served as they were ready. We enjoyed appetizers of calamari, steamed pork gyoza and pork and apple bao buns. I enjoyed the steak bulgogi as my main dish. We split the custard dessert for my birthday. My family enjoyed their dishes, too. I would love to visit again when I'm in DC.

I've been wanting to try this spot for months now and finally had a moment to stop in. It was a late Saturday lunch for me after a movie. I was greeted immediately as I walked in and sat promptly, as well. The service was awesome and everyone was very attentive to me. The menu was explained thoroughly and my waiter even offered some suggestions after I explained what I had a taste for. The ambiance is a relaxed vibe. It wasn't crowded but I can see coming here to watch a game or just for a fun happy hour with friends. Plenty of seating and there is street parking as well as garages near by. I ended up trying the smokey pear drink, tuna crispy rice appetizer, and short rib ramen for my entree! Everything was soooo good! The drink was perfect and not too sweet. The crispy rice was AMAZING! I could have ate another plate of them! Now, the ramen! I'm normally not a ramen girl but it was cold out and it sounded really good. It's not the traditional ramen but it was so delish! The short rib was tender and the chicken based broth was flavorful. I had enough for two more meals, actually! Large portion! Overall, I think pricing was on par for the area and I left happy and full! I can't wait to bring my ramen bff back to try them out in the near future!

    Ask the Community - Wagamama

Do I need a reservation I want to come around lunchtime?

No, you should be able to walk in and request a seat. However you may need to wait a bit depending on how busy they are. If you are short on time I'd recommend making a reservation just in case.

Do they allow small dogs in the outdoor seating area?

Yes, understand that they don't have heaters and tables can't be moved.

Any ideas when this will open? NYC said October. It's January now.

After the ticketed grand opening celebration on August 1st, the restaurant will be serving dinner that weekend. They will then begin serving lunch on Monday, and finally opening daily from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

We said heck yeahhhh, so the decision was made AMBIANCE: Big space, pretty empty as we were one of the last people to eat before they closed! They were very accommodating-- letting us know their kitchen closed at 10:30 PM and the restaurant closed at 11 PM. When we arrived, it was 945, so we weren't looking to play around. We knew what we were gonna get. Onward we went SERVICE: My girl Arieles (PRETTY sure that's what her name was) was our server! She was so sweet and got us our stuff promptly. We knew we were coming in late so we weren't gonna waste time, but she was joyful to serve us regardless and I appreciate that. So many times people are FED UP, and it shows, to be at the end of their shift (and I get it), so it was nice to have someone of good demeanor to host us! FOOD: We ordered brisket, spicy pork belly, spicy chicken, and spicy bulgogi. First time trying the spicy Bulgogi for fear that it was gonna be TOO spicy and it was not at all! To reference -- I thought the kimchi was a bit spicier than the bulgogi! So try it, flavor is amazing! Can't wait to come again. I hadn't gone to KBBQ in a long while!

The setting is a bit dark with neon lights and table booths with their BBQ grills arranged around the restaurant. It did feel a bit tight for my legs due to the way the BBQ grill was set into the table. Service was great. The person attending to us helped explain the menu, how to order and decide on which proteins to be brought out. He would occasionally pop over and help grill our meats when we became too busy talking instead of cooking our meals. We ordered the All You Can Eat Option A and you are given 1 1/2 hr. to eat, don't know how strict they would be with that. Unless you are truly hungry, I would order an à la carte dinner instead of the all you can eat option. I particularly enjoyed the thick cut pork belly, steamed egg and spicy tofu stew. There were a few small portions of Banchan to go with our meal and you would need to order additional side dishes of noodles or rice dishes separately from the all you can eat menu choices. There were tried and true hearty portions of meats to grill and it was quite filling. Nothing extraordinary but tasty and a nice place to visit on a regular basis if you want a satisfying Korean meal.

I'm thinking that many people who come here know already what they want, because even before we cracked open our menus, the server was immediately at our table expecting us to place our order. When we told her we weren't ready yet, she left, but came back less than a minute later and then stood there waiting for us to place our order. So I ordered the Sullangtang, which is bone broth with brisket and noodles. JP ordered the Yukgaejang, a spicy red broth with veggies and flank steak. We also ordered the fried dumplings. I don't know if the fried dumplings were vegetable or pork, but they were very good, made even better with a delicious dipping sauce. As hoped, banchan was served with our meal, but was just cubes of daikon radish (kkakdugi) and kimchi. The kkakdugi and kimchi were fresh and tasty. Even if the Sullantang recipe is traditional, I was disappointed. The broth was thin and very bland. However, I was able to jazz it up and make it into a pretty good soup by adding spoonfuls of the Yukgaejang broth and the fried dumpling sauce, plus salt and pepper. The Yukgaejang, topped with crispy noodles, was the better of the two soups. It had a lively flavor and as billed on the menu, was indeed spicy. The menu is limited, almost exclusively vegetable and beef dishes, but there is a seafood pancake and whelk (mollusk) dish. No chicken or pork dishes. Overall, our experience was decent and we would certainly consider returning. Shin Chon has plenty of off-street parking.

So was the overhead music. Guess I expected a more authentic Korean experience, but the place was more or less an Americanized Korean bistro. Still, the foods seemed authentic! We ordered a few things to share... Mandu, Dolsot Bibimbap, and this Ssam Board. For drinks, my husband got some beer (?), and I got this fruity cocktail (??). First, the positives! The Mandu was really, really good...and quite meaty! The Dolsot Bibimbap was good in that it came with a generous load of fresh veggies. Now the problems. The Bulgogi in the Dolsot Bibimbap was problematic. It was a bit too fatty...and too chunky...and just hard to eat. It was also a bit bland! They should have cut it up a bit...or provided us with proper cutlery, like a fork and a knife! This is a pet peeve of mine...but nowadays, hardly any restaurant gives you the full set of cutlery. Just fork, or just chopsticks!! Then the Ssam Board. While it looked luscious, I personally had a problem with the meat. While I love Galbi, cuts of Galbi was all-out rare. The waiter didn't even ask for our preference, by the way. If I knew it'd be prepared that red, I would have ordered something else. If it was medium-rare, for instance, I might have liked this dish. My husband prefers a much more rare cut of meat than me, yet even he thought this was too red. Also, I expected something more than raddish for sides. Not sure if this "Board" was worth $42. We also tried this Black Sesame Ice Cream dessert. I loved the flavor...but nothing too special. Service was a bit off as well. While friendly at our table, our waiter wasn't too attentive...especially in the beginning. If he stopped by our table earlier, I might have gotten them to bring back the Ssam Board to cook the meat a bit more. Frankly, I was underwhelmed with the foods, the presentation, even the service. Overall, there were just too many things amiss (or just underwhelming??)...so much so that I doubt I'll pick this place again.

Great service (oddly they're all REALLY attractive Asian guys... save for the front desk girl - and I'm a straight, married, asian male), prices are great for the quality of meat and service you get (they cook for you) They come with the little appetizer plates like most Korean restaurants do, and they all have their own little twist to them, not super vanilla but still keeping to their roots and simple flavors. The green onion one was particularly memorable Our side dishes were excellent. Cheesy corn and seafood pancake. Both come out in cast iron pan, so it's piping hot and super fresh. Corn is hella cheesy and paired great with the appetizers. The seafood pancake was DENSE - really packed with seafood and not so much filler We got their combo so it came with kimchi soup and egg soufflé. The soup was very simple, very spicy. The soufflé was a nice contrast - light, fluffy, honestly almost felt like a desert. We definitely done made a mistake because for two of us, by this time the meats were ready to be cooked, we were about 60% full - and there were 4 meats to cook through We got brisket, pork belly, bulgogi, and another beef I don't remember - ended up taking about 1/3 of it home and half the pancake Our server was attentive and busy managing other tables so it's great to see all these guys staying sharp Considering how much food we took home, the bill was quite reasonable. Eyes were definitely bigger than our stomach this time tldr; fantastic kbbq served by ridiculous hot Asian guys. You need a reservation to get a table here

The dining area isn't huge so if you want to dine in, there may or may not be seating. But we will definitely be back due to how good this was.

1 star for excellent customer service when I called to complain, though they did hedge by saying it…read morewas my opinion. Which is true. Here is said opinion: something has changed. Ordered the spicy chicken bibimbap to go, and was upset to find at home that the marinade on the chicken was buffalo sauce. Buffalo sauce! Buffalo sauce has an unmistakable smell and orange-y look. Don't know if they're trying to cut corners, ran out of gochujang or what, but buffalo sauce IMO is gross in a dak galbi bibimbap bowl. Confusingly, Ive looked through others reviews that had chicken bowls, no one's seems to be this orange so seems to be a recent thing. For $47, I expect restaurant quality food as opposed to fast casual and this does not meet the bar. Ive been here multiple times but am sadly crossing from the list.
