I went to Pi BBQ and Bar in Pentagon City with my family this Sunday, and overall the experience was just okay. Before even getting inside, parking was a major pain and almost made us pick a different spot. There were only about four spots out front for the entire restaurant, and the surrounding area wasn't great. It's next to a gentleman's club and a 7/11, and there were some sketchy people hanging around, which wasn't ideal, especially when dining with family. Once we entered the restaurant, we were seated immediately, which was a nice start. That said, the restaurant was completely empty when we arrived and we were the only people there for a while. The owner mentioned that business has been slower due to the end-of-holidays timing, which could be true, but it also made me wonder if the pricing or overall process might be a factor, since it's definitely on the pricier side compared to other KBBQ spots in the area. The space itself is very cute and aesthetic and would def be perfect for anyone looking for an Insta-worthy place to eat. A lot of thought clearly went into the aesthetics, from the interior design to the presentation of the raw meats at the table and I loved it. They had warm lighting, lots of gold accents, mirrors, etc and it all went together so well. Visually, it stands out from many other KBBQ restaurants in the best way! The menu is prix fixe with three options at $49, $69, and $89 per person. The main difference between the $69 and $89 options is the inclusion of American/japanese wagyu. We ended up going with the $49 option and had no regrets! There was so much variety. Service was fine overall. Our server was very nice and friendly, but once the food arrived, we were largely left on our own to cook everything. If you prefer more guidance or frequent check-ins, this may not be the best kbbq spot for you. One thing that stood out to me was food safety. It felt like some of the raw meat plates may have touched other dishes, and while the presentation was beautiful, I think too much attention was placed on aesthetics instead of supporting diners during the cooking process. The meats themselves were very fresh and delicious, which was a highlight. The sides were also good. The RADISH, corn cheese, fried rice, and yakisoba were all tasty. However, the white rice I ordered was slimy and mushy, which made me concerned it may have been spoiled, so I didn't finish it. One important thing to note is that they use a lot of peanuts compared to other KBBQ spots. If you have a peanut allergy, that's something you should absolutely mention before being seated. Overall, Pi BBQ and Bar has a great look and solid food, but the experience felt truly meh. It's a good option if you're prioritizing ambiance and presentation, but there are other KBBQ spots I'd choose over PI for a better price, more attentive service, and a smoother overall dining experience.

A newer addition to Crystal City, Pi BBQ and Bar, which is a cool looking Korean BBQ place. I stopped by for a snack and didn't get Korean BBQ but a few appetizers. The fired oysters and chicken karaage were good. The banchan side dishes were a great accompaniment to snack. The seafood pancake was good l, even if the center was not as crispy as I would have liked it. Overall

Beautiful place. Great food. Incredibly detailed oriented owner. Service was great I will be back

I liked the modern industrial interior (exposed ceilings, cement floor), complete with bespoke woodpiles. Super cheerful service. BIG portions (with an extra side, each entree is a meal for two), everything hand-made, many nods to modern American cuisine such as the care they spend on sides and the well-crafted cocktails. Amazing how many things you can smoke. Now, drinks and food. Nothing liked a smoking whiskey cocktail, people sitting next to you will stare in envy (as well they should). Wife's grilled pineapple mojito was topped with such a large mint sprig, it was positively horticultural. Along with the complementary cornbread, a great start. My barbecue expert's half rack of St. Louis-style ribs was trimmed and plenty moist, with six BBQ sauces to choose from. Lots of pickle slices (cucumbers in any form are perfect with seasoned meat). I had the "signature dish:" plank-smoked salmon, wild rice & roasted Brussels sprouts, a superb adaptation of the art of barbecue to a healthy piece of fish. Interesting chat with Chef Darneille about the challenges of the restaurant scene. Appreciated his honesty, he appreciated our business. Even as he had a party of 60 to attend to (there were just enough tables to accommodate us). And, only a block from Metro, making for a short run through any rainstorm. Shrinkflation has yet to hit Smokecraft Modern Barbeque. Eating the leftovers, now.

Whenever I go, I always order off the most premium tier and while it is pricey at $98 per person, I believe that it is completely worth the money. For endless rounds of high quality wagyu, sushi, ramen, etc., it is beyond easy to get your money's worth here. I've actually done the math totaling up how much we ate and what it would've been al le carte and it totaled to $400-500 total for two people so this is well worth it. The items I would highly recommend is everything off their wagyu tier, the wagyu fried rice, and their specialty rolls. Don't forget to end the meal off with some dessert as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the matcha crepe cake. This place is very modern and with an amazing staff that is super attentive. Water cup was always filled, they came back quick to ask what we wanted next (no waiting around necessary), cooked our meat perfectly for us. Overall, while this wouldn't be my everyday/daily dining option due to the price, it is my most favorite place to splurge at for any special occasions. It is definitely a must try and I will be looking forward to the next time I come

So you got to Rockland's for some bbq! Now it's bbq so it's a bit pricey but that's ok because the cash will be rolling in from all the NILs after this championship. I ordered beef ribs, potato salad, onion rings, a side of corn bread and a lemonade. Everything was delicious. Slather that plate down with there sauces and eat like a (beer league) champion!

When we sat, we noticed that it's not smoky because the grills have ventilation on the sides that suck the smoke through the bottom. We were 3 in our party and thought about the all you can eat. We decided to go with the Meat Variety package for 3 and were so happy that we did! We all thought that this package was well curated. The starters included a salad, 3 miso soup, 3 white rice, fried calamari, and cheese corn butter. The barbeque items were varied, had different texture and were delicious. 3 s'mores were included as well. We added fried pork gyoza dumplings, matcha tiramisu and chocolate lava cake. Everything was delicious. Service was very good. They brought the food in batches so you were not overwhelmed. Would definitely come back and highly recommend!

I finally tried Gyu-Kaku in Clarendon, and as someone who usually goes to KBBQ spots (especially…read moreMeat Project, which is still my favorite), I was curious to see how Japanese BBQ compared. First off, I do think everyone should try Japanese BBQ at least once just to experience the difference for themselves. We got the Premium AYCE option. It's advertised around $45, but after tax, drinks, and everything else, it definitely ends up being more expensive than that. We also ordered the lychee sake, which was really good and probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. One thing I really liked was the atmosphere. The restaurant has a nice, intimate feel because a lot of the tables and booths are separated, so it feels more private than your typical BBQ spot. The lighting also adds to the vibe and makes it feel cozy without being too dark. We don't eat pork, so we mostly focused on the beef options. Personally, when I'm doing all-you-can-eat, I don't really want to fill up on chicken or seafood. My biggest takeaway is that while there are a ton of different marinades and menu options, a lot of the beef cuts ended up tasting pretty similar to me. The differences felt more like thickness or texture rather than completely different flavors. Maybe I'm not cultured enough in Japanese BBQ to appreciate all the nuances, but that's honestly how it came across to me. At the end of the day, I think I still prefer Korean BBQ. For me, the overall experience isn't different enough to justify paying significantly more. I'd probably rather save $20 and go get KBBQ instead. One thing worth mentioning is that both of us felt pretty sick afterward. mostly nauseous and overly full. To be clear, I don't think there was anything wrong with the food. We probably just overdid it, which is easy to do at an AYCE spot. The standout part of the experience was definitely the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Honestly, the customer service is the main reason I'd consider coming back. Also, sorry for the lack of photos. I was way too hungry and focused on eating to remember to take any. Overall: good experience, great service, tasty drinks, nice ambiance, but I personally still prefer KBBQ.

Clean restrooms and tons of indoor seating. Loved their sauce bar- Alabama, Kansas City, Carolina style to make all the different bbq lovers happy. I agree with the sentiment of wishing they had combo plates as one sausage was like 6 bucks which is wild. Foodwise - tried the coleslaw, mac and cheese, jalapeno cheddar sausage, and the pulled pork. Best thing hands down was the mac and cheese - creamy but with great flavor and a great cheese ratio. Coleslaw was so so- good but some wilted pieces and was a bit thrown by the pickle pieces (though I love pickles). Jalapeno cheddar sausage was good but in my opinion, a bit overpriced for just one sausage. Lastly - the pulled pork. While not bad quality meat, the aftertaste was a bit off putting and I think the chips they may use in their smoker are just not my vibe. With the sauces, you didn't notice it as much but just on generic taste, not my favorite pulled pork in the area. Cornbread and butter were great - no complaints there. Overall solid spot- I'd come back for sausage, maybe try the brisket, but will definitely get some mac and cheese again.
