Texture was bad and not a lot of flavors --my friend ordered the jajangmeng, I tried one bite and thought it was ok but my friend said there's way too much sauce and it's overwhelming --I ordered peanut noodles, very light on flavor, I did make it a lot better by adding the sauce from the shrimp dumplings. I've been to Chiko when it first opened in DC and went back after not coming back for awhile. Love how they have a Shirlington location. I took my parents here and we all loved the food. Plenty of flavors, spice, and wok hei (char) taste. Definitely tastes elevated and love the execution of the Asian food Would come back. read more

Love everything about this place. We've gotten takeout from here a handful of times now, and each time everything has been flavorful, fresh and delicious. And five stars for great packaging that survives local delivery without making the food un appealing. The menu was simple, short and sweet. There were 5 of us in the group and it's a small location that really isn't set up for that size group. You order individually at the counter and by the time the 5th person in our group got their food the first person had been done eating for quite some time. I always want to try their lunch. Finally, I tried their fresh made spicy BULGOGI stir fry (I was thinking about their house fired rice ; ). However, I think my mistake on the order well work. It was a late lunch, and need a something to eat. The waiting time for the order took about 15 mins which I was a little surprised when there are only few people in the store. These guys are on the pricier side. While portions are decent and the taste is phenomenal, the price is a bit steep for what you're getting, in my opinion. The overall cost of the meal plus tip was more than what I think this kind of restaurant would usually charge, especially with the independent customer nature of the place. (You seat yourself, scan a qr code to order, and check yourself out via the qr code as well. The serve brings your water, utensils, order, and refills water.) Basically, I'm docking a star for their price, otherwise this joint would be 5* in my book. This place also doesn't have much going for them in terms of decor and interior aesthetic, but I liked their DC light. What we got: Pork Belly Fried Rice - 5* this was so yummy! The pork belly was really good and I enjoyed the pumpkin (or maybe it was squash?) in the fried rice. Chiko is a happy welcome to the area in Shirlington area! It's been hard to find tasty and reliable Asian food in the area. I've yet to dine inside their restaurant as I've always ordered it via DoorDash. Their food always comes super fresh and in great packaging. The amount of food is certainly enough to fill you up, but I think some of the ingredients make the price a little higher than your typical Asian bowl dish. I view it a little more upscale and not quite my homecooked authentic Asian food that I crave sometimes, but I know what I'm getting from this place when I choose to order from here. I always order the sweet potato noodles with bulgogi and it's always super fresh and tasty! I also get the crispy chicken spring rolls which are great! If you (or somebody in your group) has found traditional Korean food to be little too inaccessible, spicy, or funky, then definitely give Chiko a try. They do am amazing job of integrating Korean flavors and techniques into otherwise mainstream rice and noodle dishes that can have a kick, but aren't defined by their heat level or pungency. If deep fried is your thing, there's plenty to enjoy here, but my advice is to explore the rich selection of bowls, and to ask to see the vegetarian menu, which inexplicably is not just a part of the regular menu. Vegetables get great respect here, from the super flavorful charred mushrooms that punch up the chattered green bean appetizer (a rich meal in itself), to the surprise appearance of butternut squash in the House Pork Belly Fried Rice. The Outdoor seating is great, as was the incredibly helpful and friendly server on our recent visit. Definitely my new #1 spot in Shirlington. read more

Honestly I was craving Korean Fried and Chikos was close so i decided to try it out! I'm disappointed in the way the food was packaged. Korean Fried Chicken is supposed to be crispy, crunchy, flavorful. Unfortunately this chicken was soggy due to the lack of ventilation. The flavor profile of the chicken was also not there, it tasted like a panda express orange chicken sauce :/ The staff was really nice and friendly. If you're craving Korean fried chicken you're better off driving the few extra minutes to annandale. I am so glad that Chiko has been slowly expanding throughout the DMV area (and beyond). I don't know how they do it but the perfect combination of flavors that are savory/sweet/spicy just leaves you wanting more (though I'm sure the buttery taste I sense won't help the caloric intake). The smashed salmon is the dish I tried for the first time and I was surprised by how buttery and perfectly cooked the salmon was followed by a nice citric flavor to cut the taste. This spot is an absolute gem. We love the Chiko in Capitol Hill as well as the one in DuPont Circle. The other two have slightly different vibes, but the food is always **chef's kiss**. Personally, it feels like Chiko absolutely fills a void that Shirlington has long been missing. We have the staples for sure--Copperwood, Busboys and Poets, Carlyle...and more recently Palette 22 & Stellina. Each are wonderful in their own right. WOW! this place is yummy. Very clean and very prompt service. I came in before my show at the Signature. I ordered the Double Fried Chicken Wings, with spicy soy glaze, garlic shrimp dumplings, and the chilled mushroom salad. All were banging! But the wings? OMFG. The crisp? perfect. the meat was perfectly cooked. Not limp and undercooked and not dry and brittle just buttery soft and delectable. The dumplings had a nice shrimp inside with great flavor. I loved the presentation in the bowl where you could scoop them up into the sauce then into your mouth. The portion and size were very agreeable to me. the mushroom salad was very different to me. I have only had chilled mushroom in antipasto and enjoyed them. these were sliced like little flat rectangles. They were marinated in an interesting tasting sauce. The price was 30.00. I had heard about CHIKO opening a location in Shirlington for some time and I'm happy I got to finally try their food! CHIKO is a great fast causal establishment with Korean-Asian fusion foods. Bulgogi and tator tots? Sign me up now please! Their menu has quite some variety with wings, potstickers, noodle and rice bowls, and other Korean-inspired appetizers. We came here for a causal date night and ordered two of their lychee cocktails which were super tasty. We got the brisket rice cakes as the appetizer, and pork belly fried rice as well as brisket tator tots. We loved all of the dishes and the portions were pretty generous - we were able to have leftovers for the next day. I thought the prices were a little on the higher side ($14-18) for a fast causal place, but given the portion sizes it was worth it. This is my second time coming here and I loved it more this time. Ambiance: (4/5) It is nice that they have indoor and outdoor seating. The tables are a little tight so just keep that in mind. Price: (4/5) The prices are on par with the area. The dumpling happy hour is really nice. Food: (4/5) All the dumplings I've tried are amazing. They come with sauces or are sitting in chili oil. I like the chili oil a lot. It is not too spicy, so no worries there. The egg drop soup was amazing. The balance or sweet and spicy was perfect. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the dumplings held up in the soup which was surprising. The orange ish chicken was okay. It was a bit dry even with the sauce that it came with. I think the chicken needs to be tossed in a sauce and then have another sauce on the side. Service: (4/5) Things come out fast and the people are nice. It does get a bit hectic when there are a couple parties seated at the same time since there is only one server. I think it is odd that you pay for your food with tip before you even start the meal. I think tip is based on service and should be calculated at the end. In conclusion, I recommend this place especially during dumpling happy hour! read more

I really liked this place, a few days ago my husband and I went there to get some dumplings during the happy hour, our server was a young lady who was very patient and nice to us since it was our first time there we were asking so many questions but she was very polite and answered all of them even though she was busy. The food was very good, the only thing that I have to say is that we had to wait for about twenty five minutes to get our food, again the server was very nice and apologized for the wait. We ordered the lunch combinations. Half-a-cado salad (amazing), smashed salmon (delicious). Also had the pork and kimchi pot stickers, orange-ish chi ken, and double-fried chicken wings (probably my favorite). We also had an order of crispy chicken spring rolls. They are huge but I did not think they had much flavor. The sauce that comes with spring rolls is delicious. Worked well with the rolls. Overall delicious food. Great service with friendly staff. The restaurant is a little on the smaller side but comfortable. Outside dining is available for people-watching. Solid food and service. We did pRk in a parking garage and walked to the restaurant. The echo off hard floor in narrow building made it difficult to hear my dining companion over the conversation happening behind us. I've tried Chiko two times in the past couple of years since living in VA. My first experience was at the Capitol Hill location, my second experience was takeout from the Dupont Circle location, and eating at this Shirlington location was my third experience with Chiko. I really like how they opened a location in Northern Virginia and Shirlington is a great spot for a restaurant like Chiko. Lots of parking, other restaurants around, and pretty convenient in the Arlington area. I came with two other people around 6pm on a Monday night. There were only a couple of other tables with people eating - not too full. When you sit down, you scan a QR code which takes you to a toast tab link to order right to your table. It was pretty convenient and you could close your tab through the app or order more food as you go. Food came out really quickly and service was great. We got a lot of water refills (especially because of that spicy cumin lamb). It's a pretty chill atmosphere more similar to fast casual than a full-service sit down restaurant, but we were able to sit and talk and eat for a couple hours which was nice. Food (in order of preference): - Cumin Lamb Stir Fry - spicy wheat flour noodles. I've had these the past two times and they are my favorite dish here. I love cumin lamb anything and the spice in this dish is excellent with decent chunks of lamb mixed with mushrooms and bok choy with noodles. - Half-acado-salad - citrus soy, breakfast radish, crunchy almond slivers. I had this my first time at Chiko, but didn't really like it. However, it really grew on me since then. It was really fresh and there were different textures of vegetables that made it enjoyable. Definitely a good dish to mix with the more heavy and rich foods. - Soy Glazed Brisket - soy brined soft egg, furikake butter, rice. The brisket here is really tender, but the texture was very unexpected to me. I thought it would be more like pull-apart brisket, but they are in little cubes that are flavorful and soft. - Full Monty (assortment of banchan) - napa cabbage kimchi, sichuan spicy vegetables, turmeric pickled daikon, korean style potato + egg salad, chilled shrimp + apple kimchi salad, steamed rice with furikake butter. The full monty was a little overkill for us with all the other dishes, but I am a big banchan fan so it is fun to try the little side dishes in between. I liked the chilled shrimp and pickled daikon the best. Most of them are not super unique compared to normal banchan at a Korean restaurant, but just good sides. - Chiko Brussel Sprouts - furikake, green onion, gochujang aioli. I didn't eat so much of the brussel sprouts, but they were pretty decent. Not a fan favorite, but a decent vegetable appetizer. Overall, really great experience at the Shirlington location of Chiko. I am glad they opened this spot in Virginia and would like to come again for more soon. read more
