Honestly I was craving Korean Fried and Chikos was close so i decided to try it out! I'm disappointed in the way the food was packaged. Korean Fried Chicken is supposed to be crispy, crunchy, flavorful. Unfortunately this chicken was soggy due to the lack of ventilation. The flavor profile of the chicken was also not there, it tasted like a panda express orange chicken sauce :/ The staff was really nice and friendly. If you're craving Korean fried chicken you're better off driving the few extra minutes to annandale. It could be different when fresh and sitting in the restaurant but due to the take out experience I don't think i'll be wanting to try again. read more

I've tried Chiko two times in the past couple of years since living in VA. My first experience was at the Capitol Hill location, my second experience was takeout from the Dupont Circle location, and eating at this Shirlington location was my third experience with Chiko. I really like how they opened a location in Northern Virginia and Shirlington is a great spot for a restaurant like Chiko. Lots of parking, other restaurants around, and pretty convenient in the Arlington area. I came with two other people around 6pm on a Monday night. There were only a couple of other tables with people eating - not too full. When you sit down, you scan a QR code which takes you to a toast tab link to order right to your table. It was pretty convenient and you could close your tab through the app or order more food as you go. Food came out really quickly and service was great. We got a lot of water refills (especially because of that spicy cumin lamb). It's a pretty chill atmosphere more similar to fast casual than a full-service sit down restaurant, but we were able to sit and talk and eat for a couple hours which was nice. Food (in order of preference): - Cumin Lamb Stir Fry - spicy wheat flour noodles. I've had these the past two times and they are my favorite dish here. I love cumin lamb anything and the spice in this dish is excellent with decent chunks of lamb mixed with mushrooms and bok choy with noodles. - Half-acado-salad - citrus soy, breakfast radish, crunchy almond slivers. I had this my first time at Chiko, but didn't really like it. However, it really grew on me since then. It was really fresh and there were different textures of vegetables that made it enjoyable. Definitely a good dish to mix with the more heavy and rich foods. - Soy Glazed Brisket - soy brined soft egg, furikake butter, rice. The brisket here is really tender, but the texture was very unexpected to me. I thought it would be more like pull-apart brisket, but they are in little cubes that are flavorful and soft. - Full Monty (assortment of banchan) - napa cabbage kimchi, sichuan spicy vegetables, turmeric pickled daikon, korean style potato + egg salad, chilled shrimp + apple kimchi salad, steamed rice with furikake butter. The full monty was a little overkill for us with all the other dishes, but I am a big banchan fan so it is fun to try the little side dishes in between. I liked the chilled shrimp and pickled daikon the best. Most of them are not super unique compared to normal banchan at a Korean restaurant, but just good sides. - Chiko Brussel Sprouts - furikake, green onion, gochujang aioli. I didn't eat so much of the brussel sprouts, but they were pretty decent. Not a fan favorite, but a decent vegetable appetizer. Overall, really great experience at the Shirlington location of Chiko. I am glad they opened this spot in Virginia and would like to come again for more soon. read more

So glad they opened a VA location! I love how you can order and pay for your meal online - made our dinner very easy and convenient. The staff was great! I think we stayed a little longer than closing time and they weren't pushing us to leave. Every dish has a hint of spice that elevates the dish even more - especially if you like spice! The portions were perfect. Definitely will be coming back again! Highly recommend trying it out for a Chinese Korean blended meal. read more

In the early days of the pandemic and take-out was all you could get, there were two places in DC that got me to drive into the city, pay to park, and get takeout. One was that place that gave out fauci-pouchies lol. THE OTHER WAS CHIKO. Ever since I stopped working in DC, it takes something really special for me to go into the city. Chiko is that level of special. So cue my absolute excitement to hear they now have a location just minutes from me. I went to their opening night. I got there 10 minutes after opening and snagged the last chair. A line quickly formed outside. This is not to say they can't accommodate because it is not the largest space. It's to say the food is so good that people stood in line happily to get an amazing meal here and support a welcomed addition to the northern virginia food scene. read more

I had to try the Lunar New Year special! The shrimp spring roll was tasty, the longevity noodles was very flavorful but could've had more chicken and less sauce. It was a bit too salty, and the dessert was delicious but tad too sweet. Overall, lots of flavor but could've been better. I had their lamb noodles before and I would definitely recommend that dish. read more

I live around the corner and decided to finally try Chiko. The young woman on the phone must have been new because she kept ringing up the wrong thing and the quoted bill over the phone was wrong twice. Finally we got it right. When I came into pay, my shoes were sticking to the floor like soda had been spilled in front of the registers and not cleaned up. I ordered the crispy chicken spring rolls and it was very different than I anticipated. The inside is the texture of a link sausage. Like compressed meat with very little veggies. I did not like it at all. Took one bite and knew it wasn't for me. Nothing like a spring roll inside. I also ordered the house fried rice and the one thing that stood out was the huge chunks of onions. I would say 1/3 of the container was huge chunks of onion. I was picking these chunks out of the rice and it was shocking how big and how much was in there. It gave the rice more of an onion taste because so much of it was mixed in. Bigger than garlic cloves of onion. I never experienced this anywhere else so it must be unique to this restaurant. It was not enjoyable. I also ended up throwing it away since my husband also found the onion taste to be overwhelming. I noticed within a few bites there was a fermented taste, like they used a spoon that touched some fermented food before scooping the rice into the container. Just not my preference read more

I've never had the chance to visit one of the DC locations so I'm glad they finally opened one up in northern Virginia! We pre-ordered the New Years Eve dinner for 2 online and also added on their wings and Chiko pops. Street parking can be tough but there is a garage around the corner. Pickup was pretty easy and on time but the line was out the door with pickups since the dining room was closed. Food traveled pretty well. The crispy chicken dumplings were pretty good, love the sauce. The half-a-cado salad was fresh and crunchy with a great dressing. Probably one of my favorite side salads. Lobster dumplings were really good, good amount of lobster meat in each dumpling. The short rib was pretty tender but didn't really taste the sauce. The spicy shrimp noodles were good and spicy but lacking shrimp. The chocolate cheesecakes were very good and I'm not even a huge fan of cheesecake. The wings were pretty huge and had a spicy sweet thing going on. Chiko pops had a nice crunch to them but weren't too sweet, kind of a healthy dessert almost. I'll definitely be stopping by more to try their other menu items but I was pretty impressed by the NYE dinner package. Can't wait to see what els they got. read more

Third time back here and still absolutely loving the cumin lamb stir fry noodles! I have tried the lunch set meal and other dishes before, but everything else on the menu pales in comparison with that. Would highly recommend trying it and going for the mild spice level if you are not used to adding spices in your meals. read more

Service was good. Prices were decent. Got the soy glazed wings and the sauce was disturbingly soy/salty. The other dry rub flavor was excellent. The cocktails tasted good at the price they were at. We got the bass fish, bulgogi stir fry, and orange chicken. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dish but not jumping off the walls in enthusiasm. I personally wish my bulgogi stir fry had a bit more meat in it. Seemed overwhelmingly stacked with mushrooms and rice cakes instead, but I still found it delicious. Amazing flavors order the Chiko combo lunch of Cumin Lamb stir fry with the shrimp dumplings. Ooo boy it was good, nice change to the palette of eating of the Chinese spices. Just be aware for the people who have oily food sensitivity this may not be for you. My wife order the combo has well just with fried rice and that was tasteful as well. Will definitely come again to try other menu options. Oooo one last thing the double fried chicken wings chef kiss extra crispy, we did the dry rub. read more

We came here because we had a gift card. The food was honesty fine, not as flavorful as I'd hope. I will say though that the twice fried chicken wings we're perfectly crispy and solid. What's driving the review is that we were not allowed to use our gift card because our waitress wasn't authorized to do them, only the manager... who was not there. So basically, the only reason why we came here was because we have a gift card that we weren't able to use because the staff weren't authorized to do so. If there isn't at least 1 person per a shift who can redeem gift cards then yall shouldn't offer them. There's no way for a customer to determine in advance if someone will be there who can do so. We'll try another location only because we have a gift card that needs to be used, but we won't be back at the Arlington spot. read more

Food is overly fried and doused in oils and various dressings and sauces. you can't even tell it has any Korean or Chinese influence. Instead it feels like it came from the Deep South. If you go order the foods without sauces, avoid the chicken sandwich and tots. The server didn't even comp for the overly fried sandwich we got, we received Chiko pops for the burnt food. Nice surprise in a small place that shouldn't be skipped in crowded Shirlington. By comparison, other restaurants are predictable for the unadventurous. Yet the dumplings is pleasant experience with their unique flavors. Not spicy, but delicious and well presented. It's your loss if you walk pass this little stop on the strip. read more

Ordered delivery and received: Dry rub wings: There were only 3 pieces but holy heck were they huge! Not your normal wing size but something i'd expect off a full sized chicken you get from the grocery store. That said the dry rub was a little, bland? They were cooked nicely though Spicy Bulgogi stir fry: Not spicy. But the rice cakes were perfectly cooked, it has a nice ratio of cake/meat/mushroom and it's fairly tasty. I might doctor this up with my own gochujang stash Organish-chicken: the surprise winner for me! Not all pieces are completely coated/fried, but there is enough fried crunch that it's completely satisfying. The serving size of the protein is HUGE you'll likely need more rice. I'm not going to lie--I was skeptical when I first saw that Chiko was opening a location in Arlington. Based on the photos and the marketing, I thought the portions would be small and the food bland. However, Ubereats had some sort of promotion so in a moment of "oh hey why not," we decided to give this place a try and ordered the brisket, lamb cumin noodles, and green beans. Oh boy was I glad I gave it a try. First, the portions are not small--not even remotely small. We ordered the green beans because we were worried we wouldn't have enough food and we ended up having leftovers for lunch the next day. Second, the food is delicious. When they say wok charred, they mean it--you can taste the smokey goodness in the green beans. The noodles also taste handmade as they have that snappiness to it, and the brisket was oh so tender. It was so good we ordered out from them again a few weeks later. The food was also very good, but the dishes were not as great as what we got the first time. The salad was good, not amazing (could've used a little more spice) while the fried chicken was also slightly mild (again, more spice would've been helpful). In contrast, the pork belly fried rice was slightly too salty. Again, all of this was very good and I'm just being nit-picky, as everything we've tried here has been good, but I would still recommend the green beans, brisket, and lamb noodles over the fried chicken, pork belly fried rice, and avocado salad. read more

I never write reviews, but this new spot in Shirlington deserves its flowers!!!! I've had it 3x in the last two weeks... it is THAT yummy. I've tried the smashed salmon and mushrooms, sweet potato noodles with bulgogi, vegetable wheat flour noodles, blistered green beans, shrimp and toast (FAVE), pork and kimchi potstickers, Brussels sprouts, and furikake rice and every. single. dish. has delivered!! Walked into this spot for lunch. It's pretty new so I thought I'd give it a shot. It paid off! The service was great the food was outstanding. I started with a crispy Shrimp for an appetizer. It came out hot crispy and fresh, just the way tempura should be! I ordered the soy glazed brisket, it came with an egg and they recommended to break the egg and give it mix, yolk heaven! I also ordered a Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich, talk about the ultimate crispiness, perfectly breaded!!! Visited this establishment with a friend. I wasn't a fan, because they offered no vegan dishes. They sold no vegetable spring rolls or vegetable dishes. However, my friend ordered chicken spring rolls that failed to resemble chicken. She said the spring roll wasn't tasty. She also ordered a shrimp and rice dish. She complained that the rice and shrimps were mushy. The visit for us was a fail. They do have outside seating and friendly staff which was a plus. read more

Really not sure what the hype about this place is. It's extremely overpriced food that truly was not particularly tasty. Especially for a fast casual restaurant. The bulgogi stir fry seemed the most decent out of what we tried as the bulgogi was consistently good across the various dishes we had. The rice cakes were good as well. But far from worth $19. I got the vegetable noodles and it really just wasn't anything to rave about. Aside from me thankfully adding bulgogi & egg. I asked for a fork (heaven forbid) because the noodles were extremely slippery and our "server" said in the shadiest tone "...I can check the back..." and I just told her not to worry about it lol. Our server was pretty odd on various occasions. Not particularly friendly. Definitely don't recommend this place, there's a lot better in Shirlington. read more

Chiko's has delicious Korean/Chinese fusion dishes. We haven't had one we haven't enjoyed. We've been about 3 times and ordered out an equal number of time. I only got one thing from this place- the glass noodles. They honestly sucked and I'm so sad to say that. They were in a broth rather than sauce and it was super overpowering. The veggies in it were majority peas. Not snow peas. Literal peas. It made the "sauce" taste- peay on top of being very salty. Other veggies included green onion, mushroom, carrot, and white/yellow onion. I added bulgogi and it was so so. If you're in the mood for glass noodles, go elsewhere. read more

I love this place! I was so excited when I moved to Shirlington and discovered this Chiko location. Delivery is always fast and easy, dine-in is also always fast and convenient. The food is affordable and totally for foodies - I always feel like I'm getting an amazing deal because its soooo good and the portions are great.
