Five stars for Roam! It is one of the few restaurants in Bend that actually takes reservations, and…read morebooking through OpenTable was incredibly easy. This visit was extra special because we were taking our new granddaughter, Freya, to her very first restaurant at just six days old. We were seated quickly and comfortably, and our waitress could not have been sweeter. She even gave Freya a stuffed animal, which absolutely melted this proud grandpa's heart. Freya slept through most of the experience and left us to handle the eating, so I had the elk sausage hash, or whatever delicious masterpiece they call it. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the flavors were outstanding, and the chefs deserve a huge compliment because the food here is consistently exceptional. Do not make the mistake of dismissing Roam as just another hotel restaurant. The service is always excellent, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food is wonderful, and the prices are very reasonable. Roam gave our granddaughter a beautiful first dining experience, even if she was limited to the milk. We will definitely be back!

This is a cute place with excellent outdoor seating that is inside a hotel. We had a reservation…read moreand were left to stand up at the host stand for a bit. They seemed a bit discombilated. A staff member said they would be back. It was a long while before anyone came back and seated us. They were not busy with diners yet. There were 6 tables. We were seated and ordered coffee. The coffee was good and the server kept the coffee and 1/2 and 1/2 coming. We both ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Bennie for $27 a plate. It took over an hour to get our food. Other folks got their food way more quickly. We are not sure what was up with our food and why it took over an hr for it to come out. We also did not have silverware and had to request it when the food came. For the prices of this place they need to get it together. This place is $$$ spendy for brunch. $27.00 for eggs Bennie and they were pretty stingy with the hollandaise sauce. It was nothing spectacular. The eggs Bennie were decent and the potatoes were tasty. They took 25% off of our meals for our wait and gave us free coffee. As a former server, there is no way I would I make chill diners who did not complain or get mad pay for 75% of their meals after they waited over an hour for their food. This experience does not make me want to come back.

Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

They were simple and well-made and relatively strong. Very cute little location seating wasn't an issue, even though we didn't make reservation reservations ahead of time Just overall a very solid little spot, we got some sliders and some other little sides and everything was put together well and price right. Definitely acquired a place so probably good. We didn't bring the kids.
