    Cheese eggs, toast, bacon, hashbrowns

My first visit to a Waffle House and the cheese eggs were delicious. The cleanliness could be improved behind the counter.

A chocolate chip waffle. Isn't it so weird that there aren't chocolate chips in the actual waffle?

Okay. Maybe I'm a weirdo northerner. I just don't get Waffle House. I tried you guys (or should I say, y'all). This was the first time I've ever been to a Waffle House and every time I met someone from the south, they thought it was the WEIRDEST thing that I've never had the luxury of visiting a Waffle House. So finally I was brought to this particular location in Marietta. The best way I could explain it to people who have never been is "breakfast at a truck stop." I kept commenting about how it looked so small from the outside and kept hearing "just wait till you get inside!" Nope. I went inside and it looked exactly how I thought it would. Cramped, dirty, truck stop-esque. It had horrible coffee, horribly limited menu. Sticky tables, sticky communal syrup containers. Everything felt dirty and sticky and I wanted to shower after sitting at my cramped table. I listened to everyone preparing my food having personal conversations and saw the behind the scenes stressed out shouting from cooks to waitresses. Honestly I didn't like hearing shouts during breakfast. I'm used to breakfast places coming with a few things but when you order a waffle here, it comes with ONE waffle made from a waffle iron. Wtf. $4 waffle. With nothing on it. This place has waffle in its name. I thought I'd at least get a few waffles. Or lots of choices of different kinds of waffles! CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!! The name is very misleading. Kids ordered chocolate chips on their waffles and we were told it was like 30 cents extra. Cool. But then the waitress forgot they ordered chocolate chips and just brought out a shaker canister of chocolate chips and poured on a few shakes on the waffle. Cold chocolate chips. Bleh. And she was very stingy with them too. The chocolate chip waffle didn't have chocolate chips inside them? That's so weird. My hubs said it best. "This is like the McDonald's of breakfast houses. But honestly, I'd still eat McDonald's breakfast over this place."

As I was preparing my coffee, the customer behind me--who appeared to be of the same race as the cashier--also ordered an orange juice. At that point, the cashier stepped over, retrieved the juice herself, and announced, "That's the last orange juice." I immediately stated that I had already been sold an orange juice and asked what I was expected to receive. I was then told I could have apple or cranberry juice instead. This interaction left me confused and concerned, as the only apparent difference between how the two transactions were handled was race. Regardless of intent, the situation gave the clear impression that I was treated differently based on skin color. Experiences like this are unacceptable and deeply troubling. All customers deserve equal and respectful treatment. If you are tired of racism in any way shape or form stand up and do not support this. Let them know by keeping your hard earned money and taking it somewhere else.

The children's options are a great value if you have a little one. My only concern is that when we went in on our first go, I know that I ordered French toast for my child. When the waitress brought out our food, my child had pancakes. When I brought the error to her attention, she seemed rather quick to say I was wrong about this. I let it slide because we're not going to have a giant argument in a restaurant with wait staff over a small infraction like this. I get the feeling that our waitress may have an issue with accountability and would've continued to argue had I not given her an easy way out and said "It's ok, we will settle for this. Don't worry about it." She responded by offering to bring out some French toast anyway, which was kind, but flat out telling your customers that they're wrong is maybe not the best way to go about this to have a healthy, trusting relationship. My husband even confirmed that I had ordered what I said I ordered afterward. Maybe some staff training regarding approaching situations like this would be appreciated, such as having wait staff confirm orders once the entire table has started their orders prior to transferring orders to the kitchen would help eliminate this issue. Please know that we did return the next day because the food was great and they got our order correct the next morning. Yay!

Unfortunately, as someone who has eaten burgers all over the world the Trucker Burger was disappointing on many levels. First of all, it felt like a misleading description to describe the burger as having two "smash patties". These were definitely not smash patties under the traditional definition in my opinion. The bun was good, but the burger patties themselves were far too plump, lacked bounce, had no caramelization in the edges and were not juicy on the inside. It tasted like a burger you'd find at your neighbor's backyard BBQ with a general lack of flavor and course texture like the lean to fat ratio was off and the burger was cooked on too low a temperature. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. Unfortunately, the burger was a let down and extremely overpriced. You're better off going to a fast casual spot like Freddy's where you can get a great smash burger for much less.

As a first generation Cuban-American born and raised in Miami and married to a Cuban man, I am happy to report that Cuban Diner is the real deal. This is authentic Cuban food that is as good as the Cuban food easily found all over Miami. We started with croquetas and mariquitas. I ordered the bistec empanizado, hubby ordered the vaca frita, my son ordered the ropa vieja, my MIL orders the palomilla, and my FIL ordered a papa rellena and tamal along with a natural guava juice. We all shared bites of our plates with each other and everyone agreed that everything was absolutely delicious. My favorite was the vaca frita, so I stole a good bit from hubby and I also loved my FIL's guava juice. Service was good, but we got there shortly after opening so we had the place to ourselves. We noticed as it got busier, service definitely slowed considerably, but there was only one server for the whole place and one more handling to go orders. The one server did a fantastic job despite being the only one for multiple tables, but I did notice one couple left in frustration when they were not attended in a timely manner. I loved that they offer a total of 3 sides with the entrees, so you don't have to compromise on sides. I really enjoyed our meal and will be back to try more things on their menu soon. I definitely recommend Cuban Diner, but urge you to pack your patience if you go when there is a crowd. The good news is that the food will be well worth the wait!
