In all of my years, I had never eaten at WaBa Grill and I mentioned that to a friend who said he enjoyed their salmon bowl which sounded good so I was motivated to try them. I ordered for pickup from their website which was convenient and the food was ready when I arrived. The salmon was good but it felt very portion controlled and the price was not significantly lower than California Fish Grill which seems like a much higher quality food. The cashier was very friendly and helpful despite it being so busy. We sat on the far side and people in line kept knocking into my son, so we moved. It's a tad small inside the eating area. I ordered the steak plate with dumplings and salad and my son had the shrimp plate with vegetables and dumplings. We also had the Thai tea. The tea was flavored nicely, not over sweet. The dumplings were delicious with the WaBa sauce! Meat had a nice flavor. My son enjoyed his shrimp. Tried this place again after a long break hoping the new staff finally settled in and hit a stride. Sadly I found the white rice very dry, the white meat chicken tast more like bbq than Asian fusion. And I was served almost no wabba sauce. Also they are currently playing loud Spanish music, not something I expect to hear in an Asian restaurant. I've got head phones on and I still can't block out the music. I don't suggest this location at all. Shame thing is the previous management was amazing. Ambiance at this location is literally nothing to write home about. Bland, boring, uninteresting. It looks less like a corporate-owned, or even a franchise of a known entity, and more like a mom & pop that was put together on the cheap. I just looked it up - there are about 200 locations of WaBa Grill in California & Arizona. I'd expect more of an aesthetic, frankly. We had been to one in the Palm Springs area some years ago and recall it as being bright and cheerful. The menu leans toward healthy choices, which is great. We should all try to eat healthier, right? I went for a house chicken salad. Dear Hubby went for a plate with beef and chicken teriyaki over rice. My salad had a LOT of chicken! A very generous amount, actually. I shared some of my greens with DH, and sampled some of the beef and rice from his plate. We also ordered a side of dumplings, and those were flavorful and prepared just right. I even give them a thumbs up for having zero calorie vitamin water as an option at the drink dispenser. The cashier was friendly and helped us with the menu options, since we had a few questions. The orders came out pretty rapidly, which suggests that some of the basics are prepped already, and then the heated meats are added as needed. Usually I love going here but recently and it's only when the one women works or is on shift the portion are horrible. Whenever I go in and it's an all male crew it goes great and have nothing to complain about. The past couple of time I've gone in there's now a lady there and now I get like half the portion of meat than before when she makes my food. I used to love waba, coming every week for a long time. The last few times ive been the food has just been awful. Some steak pieces tasted fishy, they will put an abnormal amount of teriyaki sauce to mask the taste of the bad meat. When I've ordered white meat chicken, the chicken pieces were extra dry and hard almost inedible. I tried giving this place the benefit of the doubt but the last few times i have not been able to finish the bowl because of the food quality. I expect better for the expensive prices. They say "rib eye steak" but its really cut up pieces of thin skirt steak with alot of gristle. The service seems like theyre rushing to get you out of there even when its not busy. I visit this Waba Grill location almost daily during my lunch break. I like the convenience of having something semi healthy during my break time. The location is small, with only a handful of tables inside. The smell outside is horrendous as there has to be some type of sewer somewhere, but once inside, you don't smell a thing. It is always clean and has its days of being both slow and busy. Service has always been good for me, unlike im seeing from other reviews. Staff is friendly and the food comes out quick. I now am a fan of their mini combo meal which comes with a mini bowl, mini side, and drink. Just enough of a lunch portion to get you through your day. read more

We love this restaurant! We live in Naples, Florida but try to come here every visit to California. We used to live here and it was our every other week special place. The food is great and the staff as well. Many have worked there for many years since when we did live in the area. The food is great! But the customer service is TERRIBLE. We walked in on our first visit ever, and the disinterested cashier immediately says "Hi, what can I get for you" before we take two steps into the store. Umm...can we look at the menu first? My wife asks them if they have any gluten free sauces and the cashier's response is "I don't know". Not, "I don't know, but let me check with my co-worker. Let me check the training binder. Let me check the ingredients". Just "I don't know" and just stares at us blankly. We had to research ourselves on Google and then order. Totally unacceptable level of service. While we're waiting, my wife accidentally spills her cup of water on the table and floor. She got up right away and proactively grabbed the wet floor sign that was nearby and told the cashier about the spill. His response? "Okay. Just move to a different table". By the time we left 20 minutes later, they hadn't cleaned it up at all or even checked the lobby once, and we were the only customers. So we call in and had the weirdest experience. The person on the phone confirmed that the other order was supposed to come with what was missing. BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ORDER SINCE IT WAS PLACED ON POSTMATES. So there wasn't anything they could do. How can you confirm one, but not the other. There was a lot to complain about. This is my first time at this location. I ordered a value meal. The drink cup they gave me is ridiculously tiny. It is so small. I never seen a soda cup this small anywhere else. Even kid meal cups at other places are bigger than this value meal cup. I asked for brown rice with my order he gave me white. And on my receipt he out white i never said white. I asked if the meal came with any sauce and they told me "no" so i was forced to order a sauce and guess what? My wife completed an online order today at 6:00 PM Order Number 14195903402262538! The "Manager" who's name is Jose was extremely rude from the beginning. My wife politely asked if the Waba Sauce and Hot Sauce was included in the bag, Jose then threw the receipt onto the counter and rudely stated "Everything is in the bag!" Once she returned home with the order she noticed the $2 dumplings were missing. She called to request a refund for the item and was immediately met with Jose who was rude once again and yelled into the phone! Furthermore Jose stated he was too busy to help and to call back on Tuesday and talk to "The Other People!" The problem with the WaBa Grill in Simi is that although the food that they offer is good, the cooking is often not good and certainly inconsistent. Today, I ordered a side of 4 grilled shrimps and they were so overcooked that I spit out the last one. The dumplings are often the same way--overcooked and leathery. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, thrice and more, shame on me! That's right!! Shame on me for giving this business multiple chances! Got yet a few WaBa bowls where the chicken and beef did the disappearing act! I have always been able to divide my bowl in half with equal amounts of the chicken, beef and vegetables for a second meal. Not so this time!! To have a balanced meal, the chicken and meat portion was so little that it was only enough for half the rice. Otherwise it would have been more of a rice meal. Furthermore, there was no cabbage - just broccoli and carrots Additionally, Not sure if anyone of you have noticed that the pickled jalapeños are often times mixed with the pickled carrots. When all the carrots are left behind, and only the jalapeños have been selected, a prudent owner would perhaps get the picture! Perhaps the jalapeños are a better hit with customers? Each time, I have to fish for the jalapeños trying to avoid the carrots. I am sure some prefer just the carrots or both. Why not segregate them? I am returning to the Chicken Bowl, located on Los Angeles Ave. Even Panda Express has a teriyaki chicken bowl with so much more chicken then this place! So what that they don't have the beef- at least I will get my money's worth. Lastly, every time I have been there, there's never the same person taking your order.
