Stayed in the area for a couple of nights and just wanted a quick and tasty lunch when I checked in. This was a great place to find! Just a few minutes away, tucked into the corner of a shopping area next to a Target, it is easy to get to, easy to order, and available for takeout or dine-in. The menu offered several tasty-sounding vegetarian sandwiches, so I really had to spend some time deciding before I even got there. I settled on the Californian (house-marinated artichoke hearts, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, green leaf lettuce, herb aioli) and some kettle chips as an add-on. It does come with a small green side salad (Urbane House Side Salad), with a vinaigrette dressing. The sandwich was very tasty, with plenty of vegetables, and clearly had artichokes aplenty. I ordered with extra aioli on the side, but in the end did not need it, as the sandwich was very moist as made. (I did use it as a dip for the chips - no waste here!) First time at an urbane, recommended by a friend we were treating to dinner. I was nervous cause it seems like a healthy forward place and sometimes that means unseasoned cardboard lol. That was not the case here! I got the Chimmichurri steak sandwich, hubby got a Mediterranean bowl add chicken, and our friend got the salmon bowl. I tore up my sandwich. Got hungry while waiting in Simi Valley, and this place looked like it would have good salads. The Jewel salad looked appetizing, but the Californian vegetarian sandwich sounded really good and I decided to treat myself. Not only did this tasty sandwich not disappoint in the slightest, the side salad fully satisfied my salad search. As I was eating, I was called and informed that I did not have to wait any longer and could get going. I felt bad that I had not ordered my food to go but I approached some of the servers and told them that I had to get going unexpectedly and wondered if I could get my food to go. Not only was that not a problem, one of them offered me one of their fresh baked cookies. I told them if they were offering me a free cookie then I would gladly accept a free cookie. And in fact, they were offering me a free cookie and I will say this: what a great way to advertise your fantastic cookies. The staff was friendly, helpful and generous. The food was delicious. The environment was clean, quiet, trendy, and in inviting. As good as it gets. Five stars. And I looked into it--there's an Urbane Cafe in Northridge which is much more convenient for me living in the West SF Valley. I look forward to visiting that location and comparing with the Simi location that did not disappoint in anyway. Whatsoever would visit again if it was more convenient. read more

This is such a great healthy lunch place. Great healthy options protein bowl is so good. I love their chicken peanut crunchy salad. All of their salads are excellent . Also their sandwiches are good. They make their own focaccia bread, which is good, but it could have a little more salt in the dough. I don't like that they put the bread inside the salads and I also don't like that they put the dressing inside the salads that's my only complaint. I usually order it outside the box. Because the bread gets all soggy otherwise . They have easy curbside pick up. Really excellent pricing in general also great for parties. read more

I'm a long time fan of Urbane Cafe! I don't visit the Simi location often, but my experience at this location has been just as good as the other locations that I've been to. I decided to try the new antioxidant salad. I added chicken to it and had the dressing in the side. I loved all of the ingredients in the salad. I was not as crazy about the blueberry vinaigrette dressing. The portion size was great and I was able to have some for lunch the next day. Although the salad was good, my favorite items are still the sandwiches and the cookies. I also love their lemonade. Urbane Cafe has excellent food for a great price! I've eaten here a multitude of times over 5 years. Last week, we ordered 3 meals for dinner one day. I always get a vegetarian sandwich. I lifted one of the top pieces of bread to adjust some greens that were spilling out the sides. Thats when I noticed a small piece of meat deliberately placed in the center of my sandwich. I also got a shirly temple for my drink and their pure cane sugar fountain drinks are amazing. It was nice to have a delicious soda that didn't have caffeine or taste super chemically. They also have regular Coca Cola for anyone who prefers that. The service was also wonderful. The person that took my order was very patient and helpful, and greeted me with a smile. There was also someone walking the restaurant who brought me my food, checked in on me, and was just generally very friendly and aware of all the guests around and their needs. When the line became long while I was eating, this person kept checking on the people in line and thanking them for waiting. I ate indoors because the outdoor seating was full, but I would love to eat outside sometime. It is a beautiful area, and convenient that it is so close to Target! Tonight I picked up food to go. We had a kids sandwich, a salad and two sandwiches. When we went to open our food to eat my husband noticed a fly in his container!!! We were at a concert in the park. He was the last to eat but the container was still sealed closed and all the food was kept in a zipped bag. So the fly must have been packed in with the food. It was really bland, and I'm not sure how the avocado and bacon managed to be almost devoid of flavor?? The whole sandwich was cold, which I understand for the fillings, but I would expect the bread to be warm. In the past, I've enjoyed their cookies, but this time, the chocolate chip actually contained too much chocolate, making the whole thing cloyingly sweet.
