Nice quiet place, decorated in style. They weren't busy but the two waitresses were friendly and bubbly. One was helpful in describing the differences in the menu items. I tried one of their beef marrow broth from Oxtails with brisket and it was delicious. Started with the noodles which were hot and tender. Great flavor. As I made room to use the spoon, grabbing a piece of brisket with the noodles and other ingredients was quite fulfilling. Brisket tasted very good. Very reasonable prices and I'll definitely try here again.

Food was tasty and full of color and texture. There was a bit of fusion happening as not everything was true japanese, but no point deduction for that because it was all great. Highlights included the spicy tuna crispy rice and the chicken Bao Bun. Staff was super nice. Cute place in Westlake Village. It has the vibe of a third wave coffee shop with the blackboard wall and cute light fixtures. Plenty of parking and close enough to the freeway to make it easy to get to.

Very great quality family run ramen shop with some insane portion sizes. I felt like they're trying to go for a fusion ramen vibe so it's probably a great introduction to people who want to try Japanese ramen!

On a scale of 1 - 10, I give this place an eleventeen!! The atmosphere is cozy and the menu has quite a variety to choose from. The Ox Fire ramen was very filling, especially after a round of delicious Takoyaki. Next time i'll have to try the Birria Ramen. Looks different and unique, but also something I'd crave to come back for. Going to finish off dinner with some mochi ice cream for dessert. Definitely coming back!

Found this place while we were in the area and looking for a dinner spot. The restaurant is rustic and really loved the overall vibe of the place. Everything down to the utensils were thought of in detail. Ramen broth flavor wise is different compared to your regular ramen spot because they use beef broth and it's more apparent if you order the ox bone ramen broth. I ordered the spicy one and the broth is masked by the spicy flavor. I don't mind it but if you're a pork ramen broth purist you might not like it that much but it's worth the try. Not a huge fan of the actual ramen noodle used but I really loved the ox bone flavor soup. Service was efficient and they were attentive.

Appetizers: Baby Octopus Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice

First timer! The staff were very friendly and attentive, we came in during Happy Hour. With our ramen purchase we were able to make a combo with the Spicy Tuna Appetizer. I had the Spicy Nagoya - I would give it a 3.5/5. I substituted pork meat for brisket. Although the it was good, I was expecting it to be more flavorful. I wasn't spicy at all in my opinion. Although I will say, immediately after eating the ramen - I'm not sure if it was this or the spicy tuna on crispy rice - but my stomach went into instant cramping & you can guess the rest. I'm not sure if it's a certain spice or ingredient, but my stomach was not happy and still isn't. I was bummed because I didn't even get to leave the restaurant before not feeling good. My friend had the Ox Shoyu - she rated it a 4/5. Our favorite was the appetizer - the small octopus were delicious and the sauce on it was sooo good! 5/5 for those! Spicy Tuna Appetizer - 3/5, the spicy tuna didn't have much flavor, almost looked fake to me with the color it was. Hope this helps :)

Ox Bone Ramen is an absolute gem of a spot hidden in Westlake Village. From the chill ambiance made for dining in to the unique menu of dipping noodles, ramen, rolls, and bao buns, it is a blessing to have discovered this charming shop on Instagram! One thing I have been told by some is to be cautious of fusion dishes, but you can't have a reward without any risks, wouldn't you agree? And the reward was bountiful! I am talking about the Birria Ramen! Bold spices that enhance the flavor! Juicy and tender beef brisket! All accompanied by springy noodles with their very own flavor! Ox Bone also has a variety of Japanese beer, sake, and wine to choose from to pair with the dish of your choice from their unique menu. Or to just have on its own. My personal favorite beer is the Echigo Koshihikari for its smooth taste. At the pinnacle of the dessert menu is their vibrant Green Tea Banana Pudding, however, the Coconut Premium Rice Pudding rose the bar for how rich and subtle the flavor was. This is as close as you can get to an authentic Japanese dessert! Balanced, creamy and nothing overbearing! Ox Bone manager, Yukie, and crew member Habibi are so attentive and accommodating! They make you feel welcomed! Both make sure guests are well taken care of without smothering them, and they are aware that the experience is what also makes the visit worth it. I, myself, have more to experience at Ox Bone and I am all for it! It isn't about the size. It's about the quality the size brings. And Ox Bone brings it! Don't forget to look for and follow Ox Bone Ramen on Instagram! Looking forward! Domo arigato gozaimasu Yukie and the entire crew at Ox Bone! See you all soon!

Ox Bone is definitely one of my favorite spots to grab soup!! The ambiance is casual and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a comforting bowl of ramen, whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. I started off with the chili beef pot stickers, which were steamed, tender, and nicely seasoned - an excellent appetizer! I also tried their beef brisket "mini bowl", which paired perfectly with my ramen. Now for the main event: I always get the Hot N Spicy Miso Chicken, but the Ox Fire Miso in beef broth is a very close second. Both ramens are fantastic! The broth is unique - not your traditional ramen, but I appreciate the modern take and the thoughtful toppings. It's also so much closer than hauling myself all the way to Sawtelle for authentic Japanese ramen. Service was attentive, and my ramen came out quickly. The servers were always nearby if I needed anything. Overall, Ox Bone Ramen is a must-try and I'll definitely be coming back, especially as the weather starts cooling down or the next time I'm hungover... whichever comes first! I can't wait to come back! Highly recommend!

Soft Shell Crab Bao and Japanese Fried Chicken
Devin B.

Rainy day, ramen yes!!! Stopped at Ox bone for a warm bowl of ramen on a rainy day and found a unique Kraft ramen house. The space is small but mighty putting out some fantastic dishes likes the soft shell crab bao bun and the Japanese fried chicken to the unique bowls of ramen. While nerding out recently I found out that different regions of Japan have different varieties of ramen and OxBone has that uniqueness to creat their own variety. I got the spicy Nagoya which had spice ground pork, loads of fresh chopped veggies and a spicy broth to warm the soul! All in a great meal

If you like spice do not pass on the ox fire miso, it's soooo good! For appetizer, I like the crispy tuna rice sushi, desert I enjoy the green tea banana puddings, they have other options too but I am quite set on my orders.

The takoyaki was delicious !!! Crispy outside and soft inside. The Ox miso was great too. The meat was tender.

Amazing service! Delicious food! So good that I forgot to take a picture before eating. Couldn't wait lol

Big piece of fat. Unpleasantly chewy

Been a few years since I first tried ox bone when they were new and at the time I wasn't a fan. Got their ad for birria ramen coupled with some friends posting their recent visit had me curious enough to go. My wife and I were seated immediately as we arrived right at opening. The interior is nice and the facilities are clean which is always a plus. We ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, the spicy Nagoya ramen and the birria ramen. The service was polite and the food came out shortly so no complaints on their process but unfortunately the ramen fell short. The beef in my ramen was literally half fat; as in one piece of fat and one piece of beef. The beef itself had a dryness that pierced through the flavors of the broth and the fat was unpleasantly chewy. The broth was birria-ish which isn't bad but I was forcing myself to finish the noodles. I think the noodle texture is actually quite good so they have that going for them. The spicy Nagoya was ok and on the medium light side but at that price point it's hard to justify. The spicy tuna crispy rice was very good so at least we had a nice appetizer but it came with just 4 pieces. The whole meal came out to just over $53 which stung but in this economy you can't expect much better. A mixed bag experience that leans more negative so I won't be recommending this place.

Plenty of free parking in a massive lot with dozens of other stores and restaurants. It was decorated so cute and festive for the holidays. We started off with the tempura cauliflower as a starter and it was AMAZING! I typically don't like tempura but it was only very lightly breaded and seasoned sooo well. It gave it a delicious crunch with a perfectly cooked soft interior. We shared the sunset and poke rolls which were delicious, and got several nigiri pieces which all absolutely melted in our mouths. Stephanie was a fantastic waitress! She made several recommendations about the "additions" to put on the nigiri pieces - house made soy sauce, garlic ponzu, and lime zest. She even spoke up and offered an alternative suggestion to what we initially asked for telling us what the truly best pairings were for each fish. We SO appreciated her knowledge and care to make it the best experience for us! Q Sushi will become a staple whenever I'm back visiting the Thousand Oaks area!

We realized we had arrived about 5 minutes earlier than our reservation time so we assumed what we were feeling was a fluke. Once we were seated, our server asked if we wanted drinks or needed a minute. We asked for water for the table and said we would need a minute. After she brought our water, a minute turned into 10. We watched as she visited tables around us but never checked in with us. At one point a different server asked us if we needed anything. After we mentioned that we wanted to order, he told us he would get our server for us. Again, we saw her checking in with other tables. 20 minutes from the time we were seated all we got was water. We ended up walking out and eating pizza in the same plaza - and were treated with much better and attentive service.

For a moment we had the feeling that the evening would be great. The place looked very clean and even a little bit glamorous, so we thought we had chosen a really good spot. Unfortunately, our impressions changed as soon as we started ordering. We ordered a salad, a sushi roll, and monkfish liver. The monkfish liver tasted so "authentic" that it felt like it had just been taken straight out of a can. It definitely did not taste like something that had been prepared in that kitchen. From the beginning to the end of our visit, we never received water. When we asked for wasabi and ginger, the waitress told us that they would bring it when the sushi arrived. We repeated our request for ginger, but the answer was exactly the same. When the roll finally arrived, it looked like someone might have started eating it yesterday and they simply decided to give it another chance today. It wasn't really sliced so much as it was spread across the plate. On the very edge of the plate there was a tiny bit of ginger and a tiny bit of wasabi. Both looked like they might have been borrowed from someone else's plate. When I looked at the waitress questioningly, she explained that if we wanted more wasabi and ginger, we could pay extra and they would bring more. I checked the rating later and somehow it has four stars. I'm giving it two stars -- and only because the sushi chef was very polite when we arrived and the place was clean inside.

Cozy, intimate, and very much a hole in the wall izakaya, this place is all about authentic Japanese flavors and perfectly grilled skewers. There is NO sushi here (they make that very clear), just kushiyaki, small plates, and goooood vibes. I've never been to Japan (yet), but I would imagine this is what it would be like walking into a small mom and pop shop there. The open kitchen is tiny but fun to watch, and from pretty much any seat you can see your food being made. It's a GREAT date night spot, order a bunch of dishes and share everything so much fun. We came for dinner and with a rotating menu of skewers and specials we were satisfied and it kept things interesting! Lunch is more limited, with preset options, but the quality still hits. The donburi is solid, the chicken curry is comforting (could use a little more protein), and the skewers, especially pork belly, chicken & onion, and meatballs, are seasoned and grilled really well. Veggie skewers like zucchini and brussels sprouts are simple but still tasty. At dinner, my husband and I loved the spicy garlic edamame, chicken thigh with yuzu pepper, ribeye skewer, gyoza, and the yaki onigiri (grilled rice ball with a crispy outside). Pro move: dip the onigiri into the leftover spicy edamame sauce. Trust. Ordering is easy with scan-and-pay, the owner is hands-on, and you can feel the care put into every dish. Take it easy with the ordering (they are typically skewer by skewer because you can easily rack up a hefty bill!) If you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience in Ventura, focused on flavor, not trends, Gotetsu absolutely delivers.
