Chicken Ramen & Chicken Curry Ramen
    Gerald A.

Very good ramen. The flavor was perfect. Service was good. We got the chicken curry and chicken Roman.

Dan Dan. Very spicy and temp was hot. Excellent.

For my ratings, I like to compare apples to apples, so this rating is within the context of ramen houses, not restaurants in general. This is a very small restaurant, might accommodate 15 adults. Their menu has a few Japanese selections beyond ramen. We ordered ramen, though. I got the Dan-Dan and my H got the curry. The Dan-Dan was made "dry". That is, with just about 6oz of flavorful, slightly sweet blazing hot broth in the bottom, topped with a bit of spinach and green onions, then ramen noodles, then a big pile of spicy ground chicken in a mound on top. Along the sides were the split flavored egg, a tiny head of bok choy and a small square of nori. The flavors were authentic -- a complex combination of soy, ginger, chicken broth, sugar, and Sichuan pepper. Lots of it. I ordered mine "medium" spicy and I'm pretty tough. I asked for water in addition to my hot green tea. The tea was HOT. I needed some time before I could even pick it up. Speaking of beverages. Why oh why do Asian restaurants love to serve carbonated soft drinks in cans. Then charge $3. Doing the math: that's $2.50 I spend for a glass of ice and a can that can't be refilled. Looking around the place I see most of the guests are drinking water. How much revenue do they lose by not offering a variety of decent soft drinks. No. No boba for me. How about iced tea at least? Back to the ramen... if you don't care for the numbing effect of Sichuan pepper, the Dan Dan is not for you. I loved it and tried to eat it all. My H commented that his curry ramen had rich curry flavor and lots of tender chicken slices. It was served blazing hot. He had to wait a while to eat it. But when he did, he ate it all. I'm not complaining about how hot everything was; indeed it contributed to the authenticity. If you visit Japan, you'll find they're into hot. Hot food, hot showers, hot bidets. Yep. When we were eating, three guys came in to pick up to-go orders and one very courteous lady waited the tables. We have eaten at Taiyo and a few others around TO and Camarillo. I can say, this is the most authentic and IMHO, the best value with prices at the low end and protein at the high end. I actually left full and didn't get hungry an hour after leaving.

Very good little Ramen restaurant, the waitress was very attentive and helpful, I really liked the decor inside and the lighting was perfect. I ordered the hot green tea, the chicken curry Ramen with added coconut milk, and for dessert the chocolate mochi . The Ramen was really good tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. The broth was good, very mild spiced with a beautiful curry flavor and lightly salted ( I added a touch of soy sauce to my liking ) I loved all the fresh toppings , very delicious and I will definitely be back to try more ramen options ! The mochi was delicious filled with chocolate ice cream paired with whipped cream and my hot green tea to wash it down was divine! Great spot!

I liked the service and the food. A nondescript little place. But big flavor. There was a few tables and chairs, but it didn't feel too small or crowded. I ordered the Brussels Sprouts off the appetizer list. The sesame seeds were a good touch. I also got the Veggie Yakisoba. Had a sweet teriyaki flavor and the vegetables seemed fresh. All in all I liked it. It was the first time I went there and it was a nice experience. Multiple options for meat and non meat dishes. Has a few alcoholic drinks to choose from, and some desserts. I think it's worth a try.

The chicken katsu is to die for!!! I was craving for some Japanese curry and so glad they have it in their menu. Huge portions even the menu says "bowl" at the end. The plate came with the curry separated in a small bowl. I soon smothered the katsu and rice the way it supposed to come but I like their style. The curry had just the right amount of spice. It was creamy and savory. I easily grabbed one shrimp tempura and married it with the curry. The chicken katsu was one of the best katsu I ever had. It was juicy, crispy and tender. I enjoyed it! Why drive to Sawtelle, Gardena, and Little Tokyo when you live in Ventura county. My wife and.son have their ramen and they had big smiles. The chicken karaage was unique. They are small, crunchy, and extremely tender. The service was fast and friendly. Inside was clean and has a touch of modern vibe. Definitely worth coming back!

The Ramen was excellent, service was fantastic as well. The restaurant is very intimate and extremely loud. It's difficult to talk as everyone speaking is speaking loudly and it bounces off the walls. The restaurant is next door to a convenience store and people smoke and hang out and it smells really bad. Luckily it does not come into the establishment. They have tables and standard chairs, no booths but it was comfortable. I gave them 5 stars as they were amazing and on top of everything. They don't have any control over the sound level or the store next door, I just wanted to point that out.

CHEFS KISS in every bite! -Can I just say, I went to this establishment in Newbury Park on Sunday and I LOVED it so much I returned today! lol. It is authentic food & comfort food at the same time. So so good! ****Here are some of my faves: -Brussels sprouts appetizer - it has this yummy sauce and garlic. We devoured it! -Chicken katsu curry - best ever!!!!! I have tried many katsu's and this is in my top 2! -Udon chicken katsu ramen sooo divine! Perfect on a cold day, it instantly lifts your spirits! It's a small restaurant but they make you feel at home and it's cozy. Seriously nothing but good vibes. Owner is so kind and always serves you with a smile. They definitely have an amazing chef! And it is always busy - one thing I noticed is how kind everyone is when there. This food just makes people happy I am telling you! :) Can't wait to try some more dishes and dessert next time :) Give them a try, you will thank me later! -ENJOY

Ask the Community - Hoshi Ramen

Is the seafood broth only seafood based or are there any other meat products in it? (Asking for pescetarians)

Only seafood based, but some people can sub it out too for a veggie, pork, or chicken broth per their preference~

Has the restaurant officially reopened as of October?

    10/6 we re open!

Do you have any entrees that are vegan?

Absolutely! Anything with a (V) next to it is naturally prepared vegan, and we can try to accommodate for our other dishes accordingly too!

The pho broth is good and tasty but they put less meat in their bowls than other pho places. Spring rolls were lacking a lot of the typical herbs and flavorless. Service was poor. Spring rolls usually include mint and garlic chives. The ones here only came with lettuce and were thus super bland. We also ordered this right when we sat down yet they never came. I had to ask twice about the spring rolls. The rolls came at the very END of the meal after we were super full from eating pho, I was tempted to send them back but my partner still wanted them. It was disappointing though. When we were ready to pay, they said go up front to pay. Whereas earlier they were bringing the bill to the tables. We went up front. I waited for about 5 minutes until the lone sushi chef gestured that I sit at the bar across from him. There was a menu and sushi checklist waiting for me. I already knew what I wanted, and selected the coordinating boxes. The waitress took my drink order and instructed me to give the completed sheet to the chef. He informed me they did not have the salmon roe, so no problem. But then I took the sheet back and noticed he replaced my bluefin tuna with regular tuna, without asking or telling me. They were also out of quail egg. So far .. not so good. I mentioned then if he could make my smelt egg roll without rice and he said yes. Thinking he would wrap it in seaweed, he scooped out two lemon halves and served the smelt egg in two lemon halves. Frankly, the terrible presentation wasn't the issue, it was the chef's lack of experience and practicality. You should be able to eat an egg roll in one bite. He should know that. When I asked him how he thought I should eat it, he said I should scoop it out with my fingers. Wow. Really? When I asked for a small spoon from the waitress, it never came. My hot green tea was lukewarm and tasteless. The restaurant itself was clean but the bar counter was a little sticky. The yellowtail fish was good and fresh. Otherwise, I do not believe I will be returning, due to such deplorable customer service. I do not enjoy writing poor reviews, but was not expecting this place to fall from grace so fast. So disappointed. Kanpai !

Yeah, by the time we were all done with our All You Can Eat Feast, I had everyone at our table acknowledging me with, Yes Chef! ;) And when it was time to pay the bill... I was also the Bankroller, The Benefactor, The Meal Ticket and my little Citi Bank Costco card took the tab like a champ! Yeah, $257 Big Ones for 4 adults with adult Bevies, including tip for a meal that I literally cooked myself. At first, I was a little taken back, but after doing my research, I completely understood the reasons why K-BBQ costs what it does. So why is Korean Bbq so pricey you ask, especially since you are the one doing the actual cooking? Well according to Google... Premium Quality Meats, Labor Intensive Preparation, Imported Ingredients from the Motherland, aka Korean Spices, etc., and of course the Specialized Cooking Equipment.... All of this contributes to the hefty price per person, not to mention, it is AYCE after all. So I guess $257 isn't really all that crazy when you think about it, as long as you get your moneys worth. Being that it was my wife and I's first time here, and that my wife's sister & husband are regulars, we let them take charge and do all of the ordering. From the Premium All You Can Eat section, we went balls to the wall and ordered everything under the sun. A little Pork Fried Dumpling, some Fried Vegetable Egg Rolls, Marinated Tofu, Kimchi, and what seemed to be endless amounts of Beef, Pork, Chicken and Shrimp kept flowing to our table. Not gonna lie, We definitely did some damage. The presentation of all of the appetizers, sauces and extras was definitely intriguing, especially to a first timer (Me), but it wasn't until all of the proteins started rolling out until I really got excited. Rolled Beef Brisket, Sliced Ribeye, Beef Bulgogi, Chicken Bulgogi, Pork Bulgogi, Shrimp... All cooked by me, right at our table, with no formal Korean BBQ Training... And it actually got me thinking... That I just might be ready to take on Bobby Flay! Haha. Service was good and our server checked in with us regularly making sure to change out the Cooking BBQ Plate a few times over the course of our meal as the high heat and marinade juices on the meat left the Cooking Plate scorched after a few rounds of barbecuing our meats. All in All it was a good experience, and we will for sure come back, but more than likely only for special occasions. For beginners, like myself, I definitely recommend you read their restrictions on the All You Can Eat (AYCE) portion of the menu so you know what to expect. Now Have fun and go get your Janchi on!
