On our way home from NorCal and my parents wanted to stop by this family owned restaurant to get batchoy (Filipino noodle soup from the province of Iloilo). For a Tuesday lunch, it was pretty quiet. Their menu is small and fairly easy to navigate, although most of the items were unavailable. The batchoy - the original has pork liver and stomach, but you can opt to just get the batchoy without those. Unfortunately, they didn't have the pork batchoy without those so we had to get the beef one. The batchoy was good, it is close enough to the original. We also ordered some ala carte items - lechon kawali & grilled pork belly which were both really good, the garlic rice was okay. We also did some of their combos. The condiment station was okay but there were some dead fruit flies inside the bottles. Service took a little while but made sense after we found out they were short staffed that day. Filipino food was what the family wanted. So we made our way to Batchoyan Ilonggo Restaurant since we were in the Camarillo area. We ordered our food to go. Batchoy, Pancit, and Lechon Kawali were the main entrees we purchased. For dessert, we tried their Bibingka and their steamed Rice cake (I'm not going to say the Filipino word for it because in Spanish that word means something else). My wife and I were here with 6 others for lunch. We ordered about 6 dishes and had enough that each of us took a little home. Food was very good. Service was good. You have to order at the counter and then take the food to your table later. One thing that was annoying - outside door got stuck quite a few times, and wouldn't close. We went here yesterday as I was really craving for Filipino food and the reviews looks legit but I was very disappointed and wished we never came here. Please never come here! We ordered their special beef batchoy and lechon pares and it was awful. We wasted $52 for all, everything we just to ate one or two bites and left everything at our table, we did not even bother to take it to go because it's awfully soooo sweet, bland and it's very unappetizing! It looked great but tastes awful! It's very hard to swallow! She said I made a good choice of my order and if that was their good choice i don't know anymore how else is the rest of their food. I had ordered some A La Carte items from Batchoyan Ilonggo for larger gatherings before, but didn't give myself the time to sit down and have a bowl of their batchoy, and it felt wrong to review the place without tasting the plate that it's named after (although my review would have been 5 stars regardless). This afternoon I finally did. The lady working the front was very friendly and helpful, as I was not sure what to order with my original batchoy. Per her recommendation, I ended up getting an order of putos, and I have to say, the rich savory flavor of the batchoy combined with the tender sweetness of the puto is a winning combination. The restaurant itself is always impeccable, with ample room between the tables so even at full capacity it wouldn't feel crowded. That, combined with the restaurant working on a buzzer system makes for a very peaceful environment for a meal. I will certainly keep coming back! read more

I've been wanting to try them out since they opened but didn't get a chance to till now. First time trying bitchoyan and sad to say I'm not really a fan. There was way too much soup for my liking . Seemed like they were trying to make it look like a bigger bowl than it was (I'm not sure). Noodles were a great consistency. Sliced eggs weren't too bad (**egg was additional). I like the idea of the chichiron in the soup for the added texture but it ended up making the soup way too greasy. Which made it was hard to enjoy for my liking. I've been passing this restaurant for awhile now and I was always eager to go but unsure as I personally hadn't known anyone who had eaten here or shared positive reviews. However, I saw a good amount of my Yelp friends leaving decent reviews and decided to give this spot a try for lunch. I hate leaving under 4 stars, especially because we are in need of more Filipino restaurants in the area, but I just wasn't wowed by this spot. My breakdown is the service was a 5/5, food 3.5/5, value 2/5, and ambiance 3/5. First things first. I came for lunch right at opening on a weekday. There was only one gal in the restaurant and she was waiting on a to go order. The inside was a bit stark and didn't really give off a vibe that made me want to stay. So I also opted for to go. The interior is pretty bare and no frills. I did like seeing the pictures on the walls depicting their culture and different scenery but otherwise this restaurant was giving a bit of a food court bare look. I feel like little fake/real flowers on the tables would have been a nice look. Just needs a little something. Also there was no music or anything on inside. Felt a bit awkward. I don't think anyone wants to dine in an empty restaurant in silence. I will say I came at opening so maybe they just needed a little more time to set up? About 10 minutes in they finally turned on a tv in the restaurant but it was cable tv just playing commercials, so again, not really a vibe. The service here though is great. The food was all made fresh to order. The gentleman who took my order was patient with me as I looked over the menu. He didn't rush me but waited attentively at the register to take it down and cash me out. Also the woman who gave me my food was very pleasant, smiley and kind. Nice people work here so I really hope they make take some of my critics into consideration, to just improve a few things here and there. I really wish they had lunch specials or lunch plates here as this would be a better value and allow people to try a couple different signature bites for under $20. The issue I have as a single lady dining alone was that each item/main protein ran about $16. And the portion size was enough to feed 2-3 people. So value wise for a big family or party sharing, good bang for your buck. But as a customer dining alone, it doesn't make much sense. For example, I wanted to try both the lechon and the pancit, but at $16 a pop that would have been $32 (not counting if you want lumpia, rice, and a drink). And again, the portions are so huge I would have too much extra food and be paying well over a causal lunch $ price. It would be so smart of them to serve like one protein, a scoop of pancit or rice, and two lumpia's for under $25. Now that I would have been excited for! Instead I went with the pancit, lumpia, and white garlic rice which put me at about $28. The food was all "okay", good but not amazing. Thankfully I've had a good number of Filipino friends take me in over the years to share their food with me, so I feel at least decently versed in good staple Filipino food. The garlic rice was good, fluffy and crispy garlic chunks, tasty but it is just classic rice. The lumpia sadly were wayyy over fried. I know lumpias can take on a darker fry appearance compared to like a traditional egg roll but I've never had lumpia this dark and the taste was like a stale oily taste. When looking at other people's lumpia pictures from here there's didn't look as cooked as mine, I think my batch just fried a little too long so it really wasn't that good. The pancit with glass noodles was decent enough, just not entirely memorable. The portion size was amazing though and it tasted fresh, no issues there. I'm glad we gave Filipino food here in the 805 and especially in Camarillo. I just didn't feel that this spot delivered or hit all of the marks but seeing as my friends had better experiences I would be open to trying them again sometime. read more

My sister-in-law found this new restaurant in Thousand Oaks. She thought it would be a fun place for our Filipino/Irish/Cuban family to have lunch before my nephews dance recital. We ordered our lunch family style. Had Pancit, garlic rice, pork belly, Lechon, lumpia (pork) vegetable spring rolls. There was plenty of food for all of us to share as a party of nine people. The food took a while to prepare we got there as soon as it opened and they didn't seem ready for a big order likes ours. It took a while to get our food. I think the most favorite dish voted by everyone was the Lechon and the pork belly. The portion for the garlic rice and pancit were more than enough for a family of nine. The other entrees were pretty basic as far as Filipino food goes. You have to serve your with yourself to water, utensils and condiments. They do ask that you self bus your table which was a bit of a deal with our family. When we go out to eat as a family and spend quite a bit of money it took me by surprise to bus ourselves. There is adequate seating inside and plenty of parking out front. For first time patron I did not feel welcomed. I went to the orchid show in Santa Barbara with a friend the past weekend. On our way, we decided to have late lunch here which is by the Camarillo outlet. I've never been here before but my friend has been in multiple occasions. We proceeded to the counter and placed our order. We both got a bowl each of the original batchoy soup ($13) and share four piece white rice cake (Puto puti) $4. We seated ourselves and not long after, we had our orders ready. I was very surprised how big the owl was and thought I wasn't gonna finish it. However, I found it to be really good that I never stopped devouring it until the bowl is empty. There were several customers inside but the ambience was quite friendly and noise was subdued. Everyone else looked like they're all enjoying the food here. Decided to try Batchoyan after a long day of walking at the Camarillo outlet. It was an average dining experience overall. The food was good, but nothing stood out. The sotanghon was a generous portion but lacked a little flavor. Had to add a lot of lemon. Same with the batchoy. Something was missing and the flavor profile was off. The grilled fish was light and smokey. The liempo (pork) was probably the highlight of all our entrees, but the serving could have been a little bigger. What, you never heard of Batchoy before? LOL, me either! I mean, until yesterday I had no idea what it was. All I know is when I asked my friend Jara S for a recommendation of where to get some great Filipino food, the first thing she said was "If you're into super garlicky noodles, try Batchoyan in Camarillo. It's like ramen, but super garlicky broth." Soon as I read that description I couldn't get here fast enough. All the way over I was worried the place would have a huge line when I got there. I mean, who doesn't love super garlicky noodles? I'll tell you who: Vampires. Everyone knows Vampires hate garlic. And Vampires are ALWAYS coming after me. Everywhere I go I'm constantly on the watch for Vampires. And, believe me, they are out there. See, Vampires absolutely LOVE Mikey C. Apparently I'm like candy to them. Everywhere I turn, there are Vampires. I can't even relax for a single minute. I wish I was kidding, but I'm not. So, I've always gotta keep a keen watch. Not taking any chances with those damned Vampires. I keep my neck covered up: I almost always wear turtlenecks. And, of course, I make a point to eat as much garlic as possible. And that's how I'd describe a bowl of Batchoy: as much garlic as possible. But there is a more informative description of Batchoy on the wall inside the restaurant here. It says: "Batchoy is a noodle soup made with pork offal, crushed pork cracklings, beef & pork stock, beef loin and round noodles. Its origins can be traced to the district of La Paz, Iloilo City in the Philippines." Naturally their description is more accurate, but they don't even mention the garlic. Which is weird, because this soup is so deliciously garlicky! It's the first thing you taste. And the last thing you taste, too. You're going to be left with the most wonderful taste in your mouth all the way home from your meal here. Don't let that last sentence deter you from trying this soup! Maybe you're thinking, oh I don't want my breath to be garlicky. No one will want to kiss me. Listen: If someone refuses to kiss you because you have garlic on your breath they're probably Vampires. You wanna be kissing vampires? No, no you do not! So just order up a bowl of Batchoy and have at it! If you never tried this wonderful soup this next part is important: There are three variations of this soup on the menu: Original, Beef and Pork. The Original has pork liver and intestines in it (in the description posted on the wall it says "offal," on the menu it specifies liver and intestines). The Beef and Pork versions do not include the offal in the soup. When Jara recommended I try Batchoy she advised me to try the Beef or Pork, since the pork liver has a very strong taste. She knew that the pork liver forward flavor might be off-putting for someone trying the soup for the first time and wanted to make sure my first experience trying the soup would be a positive one. I thank her for that advice and I'm passing it on to you. I absolutely loved my bowl of Beef Batchoy. Loved it! The beef was chopped up into little pieces and well distributed though out the bowl. There were plenty of noodles. There were lots of green onions. The only thing that they skimped on was the pork cracklings. All the photos I saw posted on Yelp showed big pieces of cracklings. But my bowl just had a bunch of tiny pieces. And those cracklings really add flavor and texture to the soup, so I was a tiny bit disappointed there. But it ain't like it would stop me from returning. In fact I can't wait to go back! I'll tell you this, I slept like a baby last night because for once I didn't have to worry about damn Vampires getting me. Not after eating a bowl of that garlicky Batchoy. I ain't gonna have to worry about Vampires for about a week! By the way, it's May and we're celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. What a treat to have a legit Filipino restaurant in our little Camarillo town! I'll preface this review by stating I haven't had the most experience with Filipino cuisines besides the basics - pancit, lumpia, halo halo, etc. So I was extra excited to expand my pallet and try more! I asked what was their most popular dish and was directed to their original batchoy, read the description and I was sold! Now I'm someone that enjoys strong flavors and bold meats so I wasn't turned off by pork liver or pork stomach, if you aren't as adventurous I'd recommend one of the other batchoys! Now onto the dish... the broth was so unique and flavorful, the noodles were soft yet bouncy, and the meat was cooked well and tasty. The best thing about this dish... well, the two best things were the chicharon pieces on top - think of flavorful croutons that add the perfect texture AND the amount of crispy garlic!!! As someone who always adds triple garlic to any recipe, this made me so happy. Overall I enjoyed my meal and will definitely be back to try the other dishes. So my wife and I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and we finally got to this week! Not bad! The Original Batchoy itself was decent. I loved the garlic in it. The vegetables lumpia was cooked to order so our order came out piping hot but it was yummy! Gotta have it with the vinegar! Finally we ordered the Puto Rice Cake and they were nice! We went with the pork and it was delicious! - Beef Linaga: This dish is like a beef stew in a clear sour/tangy soup. Again, I am not a Filipino food expert by any means, but I thought this dish was delicious with rice! With how tangy it is, I'm not sure if it's MEANT to be eaten solely as a soup dish, but I'd personally recommend pairing with the rice. They didnt have pork lumpia that day which was disappointing because its usually our fav filipino appetizer. They did have the sweet spongy rice cakes (weekend only). Their food is great. Crispy beef is the best. I came from a city next to this restaurants origin and I can say that their "batchoy is close enough authentic". A must try in Camarillo. We will be coming back here every time we visit the outlet stores. Very straight forward, when you come in, you turn right and order and pay in the counter then they give you your buzzer.
