Service is good with lots of seating. I'd recommmend that first thing upon opening and periodically during the day that staff clean the glass on the front door. Appears that its never wiped down. More importantly the Orange Chicken is just awful. Easily one of the most popular dishes at Chinese restaurants, but here its like chewing on rocks. This place offers what one would expect from a chinese buffet. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Lots of chicken dishes, fried chicken, noodles, rice, soup, sushi, etc. I enjoyed the mongolian bbq area. They offered beef, chicken and shrimp. Lots of fresh veggies and noodles. The chef whipped it up in a few minutes. My parents enjoyed the sushi. For dessert there is some fruit, small treats and a gellato station. To top it off there was a chocolate fountain. Have to rate this restaurant on a curve. No one should expect a gourmet meal at an Asian buffet. However everything here was tasty and fresh. There was a nice variety of both sushi and Chinese dishes. Surprisingly, there were more shrimp dishes than expected. While most dishes were tasty, there were a few standouts. The main one being a fried crab dish. The flavorings and freshness both showed through. The lo mein was flavorful and not starchy or greasy. The honey shrimp, while missing walnuts was very crispy and so tasty........some dishes were better than others but there was hardly a bad dish. Golden Panda was clean and food was nicely presented. I hope that the poor reviews are old ones and this restaurant has stepped up its game. The one comment I need to make is..........A hello.or a smile would be welcomed by the staff. No staff person broke a smile and all looked pretty bleak. Food is pretty good for price here! It's always crowded on a Sunday afternoon (right after church) so best times to go are weekdays! It's great for big groups or small, even by yourself. You're really just here for the buffet. Staff cleans up plates pretty regularly but I can see how there's a lot of food leftover on the sides when it's a Sunday afternoon. The worst part was that one employee dropped the rice serving spatula on the floor, and she put it back for people to continue using it. We told the guy at the front desk and DID NOTHING! Great for the price as long as you temper your expectations. In this economy, Golden Panda is still doing $17.99 for lunch, $21.99 for dinner, and $23.99 for weekends all without time limit, so if you are going in expecting some gourmet buffet, you are most likely going to be disappointed. But if you go in with the expectation that you can try a ton of different food for the same price as a regular eat out, you might be pleasantly surprised like me. The hot food sections consist of Chinese buffet classics and a small selection of western foods like fried chickens and shrimp boils, etc. The quality of the Chinese dishes are honestly surprising good. Better than Panda Express, which isn't a high bar but still, and even has expensive dishes like fried crabs that is actually good. IMO even if you only eat from this section, you will have your money's worth and have a good time. The sushi/seafood bar is a slightly more complicated story. The rolls didn't look appetizing so I didn't try them. The chilled seafoods like cocktail shrimps and mussels didn't taste too fresh and I am a little worried after eating them. The sushi/sashimi, which are the main star of the entire buffet, are honestly pretty decent but with a caveat. They are obviously not sushi restaurants quality, but the fish are fresh enough and the sushi rice are decent enough that I when back for more. The only thing that concerned me is that the tongs used for sushi and sashimi are very dirty with food residue on them. They don't seem to be changing frequently if at all, and using something that has been touching raw fish and sitting out for a long time concerns me. If I get sick from the sushi it is probably not the sushi itself but the tongs. Lastly, the desert section is great like many comments have said, the fruits are fresh, cakes are decent, and the gelato ice creams are very high quality. Service is alright. They have remodeled so it is definitely cleaner than before and the bathroom is nice too. Both are closed, unfortunately. Vegas Seafood Buffet is the best but their prices went up a lot and further away. So I found this thanks to Yelp. The highlight is definitely their dessert section and Gelato station. None of the mentioned buffets have Gelato. They have self serve ice cream, which aren't bad but Gelato is definitely better. I think it's the last kinda traditional Chinese buffet in Ventura County. I happen to enjoy nostalgic things, and this type of meal certainly fits that description. It's an old school, all you can eat, take your chances buffet... It's not bad, it's not good, but sometimes you just want a Chinese buffet, and this is just what you expect. Lots of choices, ok food, servers moving plates off the table, and if you're lucky, you get some dishes that have just been freshly cooked. It was very crowded and that's always a little unnerving, but I guess if it wasn't busy you'd wonder about that too. Oh, and I didn't try the sushi, though it actually looked pretty good--but I'm not that brave. Lastly, it's too expensive for what you get, but that's not a deal breaker. I get paying by the pound for food you waste if the food was good... seems they stay in business because of the extra charge. they don't care about anything... they only have a few things that look edible. Absolute trash. I work in the service industry and this was the worst food I've bought/ had in a while. 10/10 don't recommend, and that's hard for me to say. This my third time to Golden Panda Simi Valley. Food was good, service was ok. My big complaint was the filthy restrooms and management. The men's restroom had urine soaked floors around the urinals, water soaked floors, no paper towels to dry hands, a big water leak in the ceiling that had a large container that was about to overflow. I told the management that the restrooms were in dire need of a major cleanup, she seemed unconcerned. This the third time I have witnessed the men's restroom a total disaster. I have eaten at Golden Panda Buffet since it was taken over from the Elephant Bar, it used to be much better in years past but is now at the point where it is so run down that the place needs a total Gutted and update from top to bottom, all they did was take it over from the Elephant Bar and keep on Trucking. Even the same brass elephant door handles on the two front doors, too cheap to change anything. The Chinese slave labor hosts are brought over on 6 month work visas and speak no English, (But they try and I feel sorry for them as I think they are being used as underpaid labor which needs to be looked into ). The Dirty carpets from the Elephant Bar Era are so bad that the health department needs to condemn the carpet if nothing else, Today was the last straw, while sitting in my booth and eating lunch I noticed a wall socket that was pulled out with exposed live wires. A small child playing under the table could be killed or seriously electrocuted. The men's bathroom walls are covered with Grafiti, the electric towel dispenser only about 4 inches of towel at a time, and is useless to dry hands. The shutter windows above the booths are broken and VERY DIRTY!, and have not been cleaned in years. This place needs to be closed down and forced to clean up from top to bottom - AND get rid of the unsanitary carpet which is probably 20 years old or more. read more

This place has gone downhill. We have gone to Golden Panda often when we were still living in Simi Valley. Tonight, we went back to Golden Panda along the way home. We were excited for it as it was at least 5 months since we last came here. The employees here were rude. I loved their Mongolian BBQ. I came to their bbq area and there was no tongs there to grab the food. I asked the employee. He laughed at me and gave me a tong. I told him to put more than one tong as someone might be allergic to seafood/ certain types of meat. He laughed at me and threw one more tong in my dish. What a clown???
