Came here on a weekday at noon and we were seated quickly since it was not crowded. I did not catch the lady that hosted and helped us place our orders but she was very cheerful and kind. I'm not from the area but visit a good amount. This was our first time coming here. We ordered crispy walnut shrimp, kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, edamame, dumplings & hot and sour soup & egg flower soup. They have great deals for their lunch specials. Around $12 for the main dish, rice, egg rolls, & soup. The edamame, dumplings (actually now that I think about it we ordered dumplings but I think we got potstickers but not their fault since the child that placed the order basically whispered it), & egg flower soup was kid approved. The mapo tofu is marked as spicy. When I placed the order she wanted to make sure that I knew this, which I appreciated. The dish had a good amount of spice. A bit of a kick but still enjoyable. I think it was a pretty big serving so I was able to take half of it home, which I ate for dinner. I can't speak for the other dishes, but those that ordered it said it was good. So no complaints there. The atmosphere was pretty calm when we were there since it was not that crowded at that time. read more

Stopped by randomly late at night and they were about to close but the waitress didn't rush us at all. We ordered chow mein combo, their recommended Kung pao combo which brings shrimp, beef, and chicken, mixed vegetables, and steamed rice. I really enjoyed the Kung pao combo. It was packed w flavor and enough of each meat and shrimp. The chow mein combo was also flavorful but o think I've had better as well as the mixed vegetables. I wasn't too fond of the mixed vegetables, had this funky after taste. Inside was nice and had this fancy look to it. Plenty of parking in the mini shopping center. read more

First time ordering for to go. The lady was nice and friendly, the place looks nice and clean. I ordered chicken noodle, sesame chicken and Kung pao tofu. Sesame chicken was surprisingly salty. I thought it will taste almost like orange chicken just without the orange peel. I can taste the soy sauce heavily. Not liking it. Love the Kung pao tofu. The bits of dry chili was giving it a nice kick. Standard lomein. Doesn't come with rice. The portions were good. Definitely will try again. Hopefully, dining experience will be better. While the SFV is a robust Mecca for restaurants, our neighbor in Simi Valley, does have some places that are worth exploring. When my search came up with Imperial, there were several disappointing comments. In spite of this, it was worth a visit. Glad I did. I can tell you upfront, that the initial service, with Louisia is cold (until it is time for the check). Then she takes a 180 turn and becomes warm and friendly. Ha ha ha. Recently, experienced the same, at another Simi Valley Chinese restaurant. That one was cold, all the way. Since I am not a big eater, I prefer the lunch specials. For two reasons. One the portions are small. Two, you get the chance to taste several items from the menu. In this case. I ordered my favorite, at any Chinese place. The fish with black bean sauce. It came out at the right temperature, color, succulent and flavorful. Fried rice was plain, but good. The egg drop soup was super, though with too much gelatin. The included egg roll was fantastic, cylindrical, hard and crisp, tasty. I asked for chili oil and got a jar from the refrigerator (unusual) because it was ice cold. As I dug to the bottom to get out the chili paste, it was not that bad. Overall, a satisfying discovery in Simi Valley. It is the service here, that needs so much of improvement, to make the visit a worthy return. read more

Last night we decided to give an old favorite, @imperialchineserestaurant , a shot. Lately our allegiance has been to a different place, and Imperial had been slipping over the years. However, I did miss some of their star dishes. Happy to say the results paid off for us. The place looked fresh and clean. We totally enjoyed everything we ordered! Celebrated the year of the Fire Horse this evening at Imperial Chinese. Ordered the steamed chicken dumplings, lo mein with shrimp, and the hot honey shrimp. From a couple weeks ago lunch specials. We'll overdue for a review. Very consistent food, and service is always great. Lunch is at a great price for 38 iitems. Favorites are any of the Kung Pao's, Szechuwan Chicken, Mapo Tofu (its spicy), Hot and Soup is the best around, Imperial Shrimp. Soup is not included for lunch take out, I recommend eating in because the HS soup is great, definitely to order some if your having dinner take out. read more

Sometimes you just have a hankering for traditional Chinese food, so I ventured to Imperial Chinese on East LA ave. and chose from probably the best Asian lunch special menu in our fine city and beyond. Virtually every item is priced at $11.99, including soup, egg, roll, entree, fried rice and wonton chips. That is not just the starting point. That is the price point whether you get Moo Shi pork, fish fillet with black bean sauce, shrimp with lobster sauce, Happy Family, everything. All is freshly prepared and the entree portion can feed a family of 12. I had the excellent egg drop soup, garnished with those crunchy wonton strips, the beef/chicken/shrimp entree sauteed with a multiple of veggies, all fresh, in brown sauce. An associate manager was sitting down at a table with a huge bag of snow peas carefully, calmly deveining each one. Who does that? Imperial is always a good bet when one wants traditional Chinese type dining. Over the years they have modified the interior some, but it still feels familiar and welcoming. The service can be hit and miss upon arrival, bur once you are seated all goes well. The food here is a bit above the normal fare. We have several favorite dishes that we order frequently and I can honestly say that this place is fairly consistent in quality. read more

Please ignore the horrible photo I took as it is not going to really how amazing the food was here. Came with a friend for the lunch special and loved the black bean fish dish I got. It was savory and had great depth of flavor, plus the fish was so tender. The inside feels like it's straight out of the early 90s but in the best way. I will be coming back here specifically because the service was top tier. Our waitress was attentive and kind, and the kitchen was efficient. The restaurant inside is dated decor, but it is clean and roomy. First. I've eaten here before. I don't remember the food being so gross. The inside was visibly dirty though so it's been awhile. This time I did take out to give them another chance. Didn't want to judge by the looks of the actual dinning area and was just hoping it was clean. And, ew. This video is our orange chicken. Almost all the pieces looked like this. We asked if we could get white meat only and the woman said, "It's always only white meat." Cool! But actually, not cool because what even is this? This is not meat and feels like rubber. Felt like I was cutting into a fried rubber band ball. Also, 3 entrees came with no rice. No soy sauce either. We finally decided to try Imperial Chinese Restaurant for our Saturday night takeout, and I'm so glad we did! I've seen their ads with coupons come through the mail, and we thought it was time to give them a shot. From the moment I called to place my order, the service was fantastic! The person on the phone was so friendly and happy to help, which is always appreciated. We ordered the combination fried rice, combination lo mein, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken for $57. When I arrived to pick up our food at 9 PM, the cashier was in such a great mood--it really added to the experience. The portions were huge! We got about 5 or 6 meals out of it, so it was definitely great value for the price. Plus, the food was delicious! We'll definitely be back again. It had been well over 15 years since I've been back to Imperial. The food was great back then, and I was curious how it was now. Since our large family has dwindled over the years, due to various reasons, we didn't feel the want to cook a large meal, as we've traditionally done through the years on Christmas Day. So, this was the first time dining out as a family on this holiday. I had checked 2 days prior to see if they'd be open. The person I spoke with gave me the great tip to try to arrive before 5pm because "....it has been busy after 5 on past Christmas days." Arrived just after 4pm, where a few people already were dining. A table at the back was stacked with full trays of to-go orders, so you know this joint was popular this day. The three of us ordered family-style platters of Mongolian beef, BBQ pork, BBQ pork spare ribs, Mu Shu pork, and wonton soup. As our soup and platters came out, this place was filling up fast! By the time all our food came out, there were only a couple table vacant. More trays of to-go orders were appearing on the staging table referred to earlier. You could tell the kitchen was cranking out orders fast and furiously. And the limited staff was starting to get pressed between dine-in and take-out. Kudos to all of them for doing their best! The food was still very good, and the memories of their flavors started to flood my mind again -- nothing seemed to have fallen off, even after all these years. By the time we were walking out, past a lobby full of folks waiting for seating and to pickup orders, we heard one person tell another, "They said it was up to a 2 hour wait for to-go orders, but they're clearing a couple tables now..." I don't know how this place doesn't carry a minimum, full 4-star rating, but this place is still a great choice for Chinese in Simi Valley. read more

I called in the order and the person who helped me over the phone was polite, helpful, and made the process super easy. The delivery fee was very reasonable, and the food arrived quickly--even on a Wednesday night! We ordered cream cheese wontons, combination fried rice, combination lo mein, kung pao beef, and sesame chicken. Everything tasted amazing, the portions were generous, and the value was fantastic. The delivery driver was professional and even went above and beyond with a special request we made. I love that this is a local spot and appreciate that they send out coupons too. We really wanted Chinese for New Years Eve, I especially have been craving it. After looking online I realized there are not a lot of options in Simi Valley for Chinese. Anyway we decided on Imperial. I don't want to say it was bad but I don't think we would order from here again. I was particularly disappointed in the chicken chow main, it didn't have the traditional noodles it had big flat noodles that had a different texture to them. And the chow main was mostly noodles, not alot of the other ingredients. The fried shrimp were breaded and I prefer battered like tempura. The pork rice was good and so were the won ton. My husband made the coment to me that everything was a bit bland. I ordered online and included the tip. Our delivery driver was a very nice young man and I only hope the whole tip goes to him. There was a separate delivery fee. Also I ordered it to be delivered at 8pm and it arrived at 7:10 so we really were not ready and by the time we were ready it wasn't hot anymore. I was looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Simi Valley and I found it ! After reading some of the reviews about Imperial Chinese Restaurant I decided to check it out. My Valentine's Day date wanted Chinese so I suggested here. We got here around 7pm and the place was full and there was people waiting for take out. We only waited about 10 mins to get sat because it's not a huge restaurant but the decor is really nice and so is the ambiance. There was only one lady working the entire floor so I knew it was gonna be not the best service but coming from a service background myself I was ok with it. I ordered some war wanton soup and cashew chicken and my date got chicken lo mein . War wonton soup - good portion the wontons themselves were big and tasted very good . The rest of the soup was ok. But still for the price and portion and I can't complain. Cashew chicken - I've had cashew chicken at many places in my life and if I'm being honest this was probably my favorite IVE EVER HAD. Again the portion was huge and full of cashews , green and red peppers and it had just a hint of spice . But it was so flavorful and delicious. I could of eaten it all at once but I decided to save some for later which I was super happy I did. I would go back just for that dish alone over and over. Chicken Lo Mein- again I've had chicken lo mein at a lot places . Theres was pretty good . Nothing spectacular but I did enjoy it. I usually get it with the veggies but my date wanted veggies. the Portion was really good too. Three stars for trying . First time to this Grand Opening of this restaurant . It wasn't awful, yet it wasn't great so we will travel mostly to our old place we like in Woodland Hills. War Wonton Soup for two (minimum) was probably the best thing we ordered. They serve fried wonton chips with the soup but i didn't care for them. Although the stuffing inside the dumpling was dry and my soup only had one dumpling /wonton Kung Pao Chicken was Ok, all dark meat , very few peppers and few peanuts . The flavor was ok and the meat was tender nothing to write home about but a large portion . Shrimp Egg Foo young , Just weird . Usually the shrimp is inside the pancake and usually you get three large pancakes but we only got one and it was filled with cabbage vs. bean sprouts and I've never had it with cabbage . The gravy was like war wonton with brown gravy , the good part is their produce and the meat including the shrimp was very fresh & tender and not over cooked . Cream Cheese won tons were blah! They were hard as a rock and barely any cream cheese because they were over cooked. They have the timing perfect on the meat . The timing was also good on the service as we were never slammed with all the food at once . Service was good but there were only two other couples on a thursday night 7pm. They checked on the table over and over so that's why I said they were trying . One thing to note is that they use a lot of oil here and when you walk in you can smell the oil and the food is very greasy. The wontons served with the soup were so greasy all you tasted was grease not the wonton and it's the kind of grease that is heavy in/on the food that was overpowering. Not sure if this is good or not but i kept smelling dish soap when i drank my tea. I guess good that we know they are using soap but not rinsing too well maybe? read more

Probably because people don't like authentic Chinese food, and prefer nasty Panda Express instead! What in the hell happened? This place USED to have the best orange chicken. I used to compare it to the old Chinese inn from the 70's-90s. It used to have white meat chicken, orange peel and dried chilies inside but not any longer. Greasy thigh meat and none of the other ingredients I'm reading new owners and that must mean new cooks and trying to serve (can't say cheap because it wasn't) Also ordered king Pao chicken, beef and broccoli and chicken chow main.
