Fish Fillet with Black Bean Sauce
Peter M.

While the SFV is a robust Mecca for restaurants, our neighbor in Simi Valley, does have some places that are worth exploring. When my search came up with Imperial, there were several disappointing comments. In spite of this, it was worth a visit. Glad I did. I can tell you upfront, that the initial service, with Louisia is cold (until it is time for the check). Then she takes a 180 turn and becomes warm and friendly. Ha ha ha. Recently, experienced the same, at another Simi Valley Chinese restaurant. That one was cold, all the way. Since I am not a big eater, I prefer the lunch specials. For two reasons. One the portions are small. Two, you get the chance to taste several items from the menu. In this case. I ordered my favorite, at any Chinese place. The fish with black bean sauce. It came out at the right temperature, color, succulent and flavorful. Fried rice was plain, but good. The egg drop soup was super, though with too much gelatin. The included egg roll was fantastic, cylindrical, hard and crisp, tasty. I asked for chili oil and got a jar from the refrigerator (unusual) because it was ice cold. As I dug to the bottom to get out the chili paste, it was not that bad. Overall, a satisfying discovery in Simi Valley. It is the service here, that needs so much of improvement, to make the visit a worthy return.

Wor Wonton Soup is delicious

Last night we decided to give an old favorite, @imperialchineserestaurant , a shot. Lately our allegiance has been to a different place, and Imperial had been slipping over the years. However, I did miss some of their star dishes. Happy to say the results paid off for us. The place looked fresh and clean. We totally enjoyed everything we ordered! The Mushu Pork, Wor Wonton Soup, barbecued pork, and vegetable fried rice were all very delicious!

Spicy honey shrimp

Celebrated the year of the Fire Horse this evening at Imperial Chinese. Ordered the steamed chicken dumplings, lo mein with shrimp, and the hot honey shrimp. Really nice sized shrimp that tasted good. Served with a hot tea. Everything was delicious! Our server was wonderful and made our meal even nicer!

Mopu Tofu (it's spicy)

From a couple weeks ago lunch specials. We'll overdue for a review. Very consistent food, and service is always great. Lunch is at a great price for 38 iitems. Favorites are any of the Kung Pao's, Szechuwan Chicken, Mapo Tofu (its spicy), Hot and Soup is the best around, Imperial Shrimp. Soup is not included for lunch take out, I recommend eating in because the HS soup is great, definitely to order some if your having dinner take out.

Sometimes you just have a hankering for traditional Chinese food, so I ventured to Imperial Chinese on East LA ave. and chose from probably the best Asian lunch special menu in our fine city and beyond. Virtually every item is priced at $11.99, including soup, egg, roll, entree, fried rice and wonton chips. That is not just the starting point. That is the price point whether you get Moo Shi pork, fish fillet with black bean sauce, shrimp with lobster sauce, Happy Family, everything. All is freshly prepared and the entree portion can feed a family of 12. I had the excellent egg drop soup, garnished with those crunchy wonton strips, the beef/chicken/shrimp entree sauteed with a multiple of veggies, all fresh, in brown sauce. An associate manager was sitting down at a table with a huge bag of snow peas carefully, calmly deveining each one. Who does that? The only slight bummer was the fried rice which appeared to be white rice tossed with a little soy sauce. No biggie. The place is clean and the service is great. Check it out!.

Left to right is orange chicken, chicken lo mein, beef broccoli, and the best-kung pao chicken.

Imperial is the best!! Fresh, hot, great quality, deeeelicious, and reasonable $$. Left to right is orange chicken, chicken lo mein, beef broccoli, and the best-kung pao chicken. Tried the fried wontons tonight and those were a hit too.

Please ignore the horrible photo I took as it is not going to really how amazing the food was here. Came with a friend for the lunch special and loved the black bean fish dish I got. It was savory and had great depth of flavor, plus the fish was so tender. The inside feels like it's straight out of the early 90s but in the best way. I've gotten to go from this place as well and their braised pork belly is incredible, plus they are always sending out marketing for discounts so check your mail!

Definitely the BEST Chinese food in Simi Valley! Decided to get some today and loved it! Ordered the Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Tofu, Shrimp Fried Rice & Crispy Walnut Shrimp and EVERYTHING was delicious! Amazing service here as always! If you're looking for Chinese food, this is the spot!

I loved the large selection Imperial offers and generally. all of our dishes were really good! The Mongolian beef, Kung Pao, and lemon chicken were all AWESOME. The lo mein was okay. I will be coming back here specifically because the service was top tier. Our waitress was attentive and kind, and the kitchen was efficient. The restaurant inside is dated decor, but it is clean and roomy. I have not done takeout with them before but due to our amazing first time dining in, I will be ordering from them in the future.

We finally decided to try Imperial Chinese Restaurant for our Saturday night takeout, and I'm so glad we did! I've seen their ads with coupons come through the mail, and we thought it was time to give them a shot. From the moment I called to place my order, the service was fantastic! The person on the phone was so friendly and happy to help, which is always appreciated. We ordered the combination fried rice, combination lo mein, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken for $57. When I arrived to pick up our food at 9 PM, the cashier was in such a great mood--it really added to the experience. The portions were huge! We got about 5 or 6 meals out of it, so it was definitely great value for the price. Plus, the food was delicious! We'll definitely be back again. Highly recommend giving them a try if you're in the area!

I'm not sure what's going on with our usual go-to Chinese restaurant in Newbury Park, but after a…read moreyear and a half absence from getting takeout from them, they don't appear to be open. Their voicemail message continues to say "temporarily closed." So I started searching closer to home, which is a challenge because I don't usually view any Simi Valley restaurant as being worthy of our patronage... yet, I searched anyway. I found Bao Su on Yelp, so we decided to give them a try based on other Yelper reviews. Bottom line is that my husband and I were incredibly impressed with their food, not to mention, happy that it is so much closer. We ordered the following (takeout): Shrimp Fried Rice Shrimp with Lobster Sauce Szechuan Style Eggplant Sizzling Chicken Mongolian Beef I had a bit of a problem deciphering their menu because there weren't a lot of details as to ingredients, so I took chances and prayed they were dishes we've had before. Everything was delicious, plentiful and mostly recognizable... with the exception of the shrimp with lobster sauce. That was more soup-like and watered down from what we're used to, but it was still really good. All dishes were loaded with protein and vegetables, well seasoned and sauced, and textures were soft or crunchy, just as we knew them to be... and just as we loved them. We've since ordered from them again, and they were (very happily) consistently delicious. We are sooooooo happy to now have a LOCAL Chinese restaurant that we can trust and enjoy. We may even dine there and not do the takeout thing for a change. (I really would like to ask them what some of their other dishes are on the menu cuz I would like more options, truth be told. However, if the dishes above are the only ones I would ever choose to order, I'm fine with that, too.)

I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Yunnan Restaurant when it is one of the two…read moreChinese restaurants in the area that are my Taiwanese-parent-approved! Since its opening, Yunnan Restaurant has become a staple in our rotation for good reason. The pro-tip that I almost want to gatekeep is to go for lunch because that's the only way to guarantee that all of the best cold dishes are still in stock. My family's go-to is the vinegar potato strings, bamboo shoots, and sliced mushrooms, but we've recently also gotten into getting a side order of the peanuts with anchovies. The peanuts have a great sweet and salty roasted flavor and would pair perfectly with some rice. I could honestly be happy just ordered a big plate of the vegetarian cold dishes with rice, but it would be criminal to not order some of the noodles. The Sichuan style cold noodle is my absolute favorite item on the menu. It is vinegary, spicy, a little bit sweet, and super refreshing! The noodle texture is nice and bouncy, and the sliced carrots and scallions and blanched bean curds add a great crunchy texture. Despite being meatless, this noodle dish is absolutely satisfying and delicious! Most of the praises I sing are about this cold noodle dish, but their other items are also quite yummy. I enjoy the braised garlic seafood tofu dish, which pairs well with rice, and there are whole cloves of garlic that were braised with the seafood to be subtlety sweet and not at all pungent. Yunnan Restaurant really lives up to the hype!
