chicken n WaBa Chicken & Steak Plate
Nans M.

Bad service! The chicken and steak plate serving was so small! The steak was about total 2 tablespoon on quantity. The salad did not have a salad dressing! I liked the Ventura branch, you get what you pay for.

Now open on Camarillo!

Camarillo now has a Waba Grill! A good teriyaki bowl place is something Camarillo has been missing. I came here on a Sunday. As I walked in, there was a weird smell. I look toward the bathroom and sure enough, there's an out of order sign, that explains it. It was late in the afternoon on a Sunday after they just had a grand opening, I guess it would be difficult to get a plumber in. I ordered 2 waba bowls and 10pc dumplings. However when I got home I had 1 waba (half chicken, half steak) and 1 steak bowl. I ordered 1 without cabbage and the other without carrots so that may have had the cooks concentrating more on getting my exclusions right and they forgot the chicken in a bowl. I wasn't upset as the price is the same and the steak was doubled to compensate for the missing chicken. Aside from messing up on the order, customer service was great. The girl at the counter was so nice, she didn't know how to tell me they don't have cauliflower in their veggies. I originally ordered 1 no carrots, 1 no cauliflower, as it has been a while since I'd been to a Waba but I remembered there was something with a C I didn't like in my bowl. She looked at me puzzled, and said "um, the veggies we have are broccoli, carrots and cabbage." I again said "yeah, so no cauliflower." Why did my brain equate cabbage to cauliflower, I don't know, I was tired, wasn't listening, in a fog, etc. So she enters one waba bowl, and says "ok so 1 no carrots and the other noooo???" I again said "uhhh, no cauliflower." At this point I'm thinking "is this chick not listening?" Then it occurs to me, she never said cauliflower when reading the veggies they have. I asked "wait what veggies were they again?" She repeats them and I say "ohhh, I meant cabbage, sorry, cabbage." She nicely smiled and completed the order. I can only imagine the girl went home thinking "how dumb are people that they don't know the difference between cabbage and cauliflower." Anyway, despite the busted toilet, and the messed up order, the food was good and I'll be coming back when in the area.

This is the yummy mini steak bowl

The food was so good! I got the steak mini bowl and my husband got the house salad with chicken. We were very impressed. Loved the way they make the steak, so flavorful! The place is so clean and the servers were helpful and nice. I recommend it.

Chewing and undercooked chicken.

I came into Tasty Pot after an awful appointment. I was in a sour mood, but eating here really…read morecheered me up! We drove down from SLO and I was craving hotpot since there's not much asian food where I'm at. The server working on Saturday afternoon was so friendly and helpful! He was the only one working but he got us everything we needed and even bussed all the tables himself. I was really impressed that he could handle the whole store himself and still keep up a really positive attitude!! The food was really good! Compared to SoCal, it might be considered average, but when you compare it to anything in the central coast (esp north) it's really tasty!! We talked about coming back any time we have some business out here! It was relatively quiet and peaceful. I think we went in during a slow time, but I'm glad we did!

It also doesn't provide that traditional hotpot experience which I find much more enjoyable. However in VC options are limited, so when I saw Tasty Pot recently opened I was quite ecstatic! There were 12 different pots and 5 spicy levels to choose from. Pot numbers 1-7 were smaller size and numbers 8-12 were larger size pots. Except for the Healthy Veggie pot, all the soup base was pork broth. Most of the pots also had very similar ingredients, the difference I could see were the main protein choice and soup flavor. They also have another menu for rice and noodle options if you didn't want to do the personal pots. We got the Taiwanese Supreme in mild and the Seafood Lobster in medium. We also got a side of quail eggs. The pots arrived with a candle of some sort below to keep it hot. Both pots were of the larger size and filled with lots of food. The mild was the perfect level of spicy for me, a hint of spice that does not overpower the original flavor of the ingredients, rather it enhanced each one and made it more tasty. Service was good, our server came by frequently to check on us and to refill the soup. At one point the flame under the pot had already gone out but we hadn't cook the noodles so we requested another flame. We were told they had to bring the pot back to the kitchen to heat it up. So I guess the flame was there to just keep the pot warm rather than actually cooking. Although this cannot compare to the traditional hotpot, this personal hotpot is still a very good option and helps to satisfy my craving.

We let the group pass us and entered the restaurant. We were promptly seated at a corner table and given menus. It did take a bit for the server to come back to take our order, but we did realize we came in 1/2 hour before closing, so we eased off a bit. My partner order the hot pot and was very happy with his choice. The server came back with a hot plate and instructed us how to cook the meat. I was a bit apprehensive about having to cook my own food, but the fragrant smell as it cooked changed my mind. The broth was flavorful and the veg and meat were tender as they soaked up the soupy goodness. I also ordered the boa buns and the pillowy texture, mixed with the soft pork and crunchy cucumber and carrots made my belly sing. We slurped up our food and cleared out as quickly as we could. I hate being that person that lingers at closing time. What I do regret is that I did not take more time at their counter as we exited because it was full of snacks and curios that I love. Next time for sure!

But after giving it a few more chances, we're glad we did. The food has improved dramatically--meats are now well-marinated and flavorful, service is prompt and attentive, and the overall vibe feels polished. It's gone from a shaky newcomer to our go-to KBBQ spot in town. If your first visit left you underwhelmed like ours did, give Heat a second shot. They've stepped it up in all the right ways.

The meats and veggies were very good, as well as the Korean Fried Chicken. Unfortunately, they were understaffed so we waited around 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink order, and it was 40 minutes before any meat arrived. They had one server for the entire restaurant. This affected our meal and we probably won't be coming back. The food was good but was not worth the very long wait. The best meats we tried were the flat iron steak and the beef brisket. The Korean Fried chicken was also great. We also had the mango soju pouch, which was very yummy as well. Overall, the service is what is lacking here, especially on major holidays. This would greatly improve the experience.

Honestly? Solid, reliable mid-tier mall sushi in a good way. Nothing mind-blowing or destination-worthy, but crispy where it should be crispy, fish was soft and fresh, not overly salty, and service was friendly and efficient. Shoutout to the rice being properly cooked -- sounds like a low bar, but a lot of places miss that, and it makes a difference. I ordered the Ika Karrage Twice: both times it was burnt, one would think that after sending it back the first time because it was dark brown & black, that the 2nd time they'd have gotten it right, but they didn't care, nor did our server. I ordered an oyster shooter (better to order two for the price is $2 more) and it didn't arrive until the end of our meal & only after I asked, worse, it may have been a whole oyster, but it was shredded and in 3-4 pieces. The pork belly was excellent, but my drink, didn't arrive until over 1/2 way into our meal... What is wrong with these young people? Seriously if you can't do it correctly, maybe this isn't the job for you. My February rating gave kabuki 5 stars, this time it all fell apart. I'll think twice about coming here again, because from this experience the problem was with the staff.
