IMO the overall tastes and flavor of the food here just surpasses other restaurants when comparing the same dishes. This is the only place that I've seen where you can get a whole roast duck. I decided that I needed to come back here to leave an updated review. I'm slightly ashamed since my review over a decade ago I didn't think to come back to give them an upgraded hyped review. Sorry! Chester's is definitely a Camarillo stable Chinese restaurant and when you speak to the locals about some of their favorite places to dine (especially for Asian inspired dishes) almost always without fail someone mentions Chester's. This spot is definitely comforting and always here for when you're craving a tasty snack. I continue to order takeout from this location a few times a year. I've found items that always hit the spot and while I'm still pretty particular about my Chinese food, there are enough upgrades with the dishes I've tried that I needed to report back to give them an honorable 4 stars. I've grown to really enjoy some of their noodle dishes, especially the rice noodles with beef and black bean sauce. My number one favorite dish here however is their War Wonton Soup. Anytime I am feeling under the weather or trying to beat a cold I always have to get soup from them. A piping hot bowl of soup with a good broth and made with love instantly makes me feel better. The staff here are really nice. I love the woman who works the register and takes the calls. She is so lovely and I would assume one of the owners. Always nice people here and while I don't dine in, their takeout system is flawless. I've directly or indirectly heard of 3 people who recommended trying this place recently. Although someone instructed me to try the Peking duck, I read that you must call 1 or 2 hours ahead for its preparation, so I chose to skip it. First, the restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Once you go inside, there's beautiful red-focused decor. Next, we were seated almost immediately. Because I'm already elderly at heart, I love having early dinner (and early bedtimes). The restaurant wasn't very busy, and the waiter kept checking in on us. We were also provided complimentary tea, which was welcome, especially after a cold day. I tried the gourmet choice selection on the menu and was able to try the wonton soup, BBQ pork fried rice, egg rolls, fried shrimp, paper-wrapped chicken, orange chicken, and cashew chicken. The BBQ pork fried rice was bland, and the egg rolls and fried shrimp were just okay. The cashew nut chicken didn't have many cashews and wasn't flavorful. The paper-wrapped chicken and orange chicken were very delicious. However, the wonton soup was phenomenal! It was the best wonton soup I've ever had. To top it all off, we were provided with fortune cookies. My cookie had no fortune in it. This is apparently a bad sign and signifies I may not have a future. Or, perhaps, per the internet, my future is a blank slate for me to take control of and set my own course. Either way, I think I'll start by buying a lottery ticket... or maybe just a helmet. read more

Lovely family owned restaurant in Camarillo which my in-laws family has been going to for years. Dining in is much better than getting take-out as the food is piping hot and tastes more fresh. It definitely felt more of a group place with the large round tables and lazy susans. When we went, there were mostly groups eating. We only had to wait 5-10 minutes while they cleared a table for us. The large hot and sour soup was delicious and enough for 6 people. For dishes, we got black bean chicken which came sizzling hot and was my favorite of what we ordered. Also got a shrimp dish with lobster sauce and some noodles. read more

Chester's is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in Ventura County! We've been coming here for over 15 years, and I can't believe I've never left a review until now. This isn't just about our most recent visi, it's about years of consistently great Food. The food at Chester's is always top-notch. I've never had a dish I didn't like. Here are a few of my go-to favorites: Honey Walnut Shrimp - perfectly creamy and crispy Sweet and Sour Pork - a classic done right String Beans with Pork - this one's a must; we always order it as a side Sweet and Pungent Shrimp - I get this every single time Orange Chicken - a safe and delicious staple There are plenty more favorites, but those are my core picks. They also have some excellent lunch specials worth checking out. Now, a quick heads-up: the service can be hit or miss. In fact, at times it may feel a bit indifferent, much like many other Chinese restaurants I've been to. Whether it's cultural or just the norm, I've learned not to let it affect my experience. The food more than makes up for it. And on the flip side, I've interacted with the owner a few times and he's always been friendly, welcoming, and genuinely cool. Decorations are great, the owner really takes pride on his decor. Christmas and Chinese year are my favorite! We've tried carry-out, but I wouldn't recommend it if it's your first time. Chester's has been a family favorite for decades. Although it had been an incredibly long time since we've gone inside to eat, we still enjoy the takeout. Their beef and broccoli is one of my favorites. My family like cashew chicken, sweet and sour pork, and the 3 meat noodles. When we order on the phone they're always very nice! Inside the restaurant is very quirky and eccentric. It's a fun place to go to at least once for eating inside. I'm sad they got rid of their egg drop soup. It's a bit of a hidden spot, not very noticeable, but once you step inside, you're greeted with a unique atmosphere and cool, authentic decor. The host at the front was very friendly, and as soon as we were seated, we were given complimentary jasmine tea and what I think were noodles with a touch of ketchup--really tasty! We ordered the Gourmet Choice, which includes soup, appetizers with chicken, shrimp, and a spring roll, as well as fried rice. For the main dish, I chose shrimp with mixed vegetables, and it was amazing. My boyfriend had the same, but with chicken in an orange sauce. That was hands down the best I've ever had. Came here it's little hole in the wall Chinese food spot. It Is always busy. Came here ordered the peking duck takes about 2 hours to make you call ahead of time. The service is mid, they seem super busy they could not help out everyone. The bathroom was nice they did not have any paper to dry hands. Prices are mid to high. We got pork fried rice and sweet and sour pork. it was good , the duck was a lil dry I had it there before and it was better. The place is really outdated looks kind of funky. If you are planning a party for any special occasions, birthday, graduation, mother's day, father's day etc , stay away from this restaurant. There are other Chinese restaurants within the vicinity that are far better than this one. I choose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday being a patrons for many years as we know the owner Keith. One week before my birthday, I called him and placed an order for Peking Duck which they do if given enough notice. On that evening, we were being served by a rude and unprofessional male waiter.when I asked him about the Peking Duck, he told me it was on the order but the Chef did not make it. When I asked the waiter to get Keith, he refused to do so.The restaurant was not busy since we booked the dinner at 5 p.m. I would never ever go back to this restaurant again and that's a promise. read more

Visited for the first time Saturday night during the downpour. Happy we called 30 min ahead to see if they had space for us as they were busy! Charming inside and our waiter was so kind, especially to our 3 year old daughter. Hot tea and those fried wonton sticks with ketchup and spicy mustard were brought out before ordering. A nice touch. I thought the prices were very reasonable. $110 before tip for a drink, large soup, appetizer, noodle dish and 3 meat dishes. It was lunch time, but I wanted a more substantial portion, so I ordered Chicken Egg Foo Young off the dinner menu. This goes for $14.25. Honestly, I was somewhat disappointed, as I've had much better egg foo young elsewhere. They give you three somewhat small cakes, covered in a creamy sauce with pieces of thinly sliced chicken on top. It comes with a generous side of white rice. The times I've ordered this particular dish elsewhere I received a much more generous portion and I thought the food was tastier.
