We love this Chinese restaurant and am very glad they have something authentic in this town. Customer service was great! The kitchen closes half hour before they close, so if you want to eat there; you must get there at least half hou before closing. Food is delicious! We usually order beef rolls, beef noodle soup, mashed eggplant, dish where you can choose 3 items (beef, Woodear mushroom, and tofu skin).. Also, the spicy fried fish is amazing. For dessert, the pumpkin cakes are amazing and chewy. Ambiance is casual. They have big round tables for larger groups with a lazy Susan in the center. Their special chili sauce is amazing too: I highly recommend.

I used to really enjoy coming to this restaurant and have been here many times over the years, which makes this review especially disappointing to write. Unfortunately, the service here has been a hit or miss. On my most recent visit, I arrived and waited for quite a while without being greeted. There was no host at the front when I got there, so I waited patiently. Later, when someone finally showed up, they let other customers who arrived after me be seated first. When I asked about it, I was told that I hadn't "checked in" -- but there was no one there to check in with when I arrived. To make it more frustrating, other staff members clearly saw me come in first and told me to wait by the front door. Once seated, the experience didn't improve much. The food took a long time to arrive, and they brought out plain white rice first and just let it sit on the table for quite a while before any of the main dishes came. By the time the entrees arrived, the rice was no longer fresh and warm. It's disappointing because I used to really like this place and came often. The food itself can still be good, but the inconsistent service and lack of attention to basic hospitality have made me reconsider returning. I hope they can improve, as I'd love to see them get back to the level they used to be.

What a pleasant surprise. We were in the area shopping for new running shoes and wanted to try something new. The smoked pork belly with bamboo shoots was incredible. Beef egg and noodle soup was savory and aromatic. The dumplings were delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We found a new Chinese spot!

Great place for Chinese food. They serve a mixed of more traditional Chinese dishes and American Chinese food. The specialty dishes are more costly than the simple/common dishes, which is expected. We all really enjoyed the Toothpick Lamb. I love the mix of cumin and spices. Service was great. It's probably family-owned. They were fast, efficient and courteous.

Picking up some wonton soup. The flavor is perfect, loves the wonton. Smells so delicious. However, this is not americanized wonton soup. No vegetables, no crispy noodles. Just broth and wonton pieces. The meat inside are not consistent. Some wonton meats are as small as half teaspoon size. I bought 2 containers. Taste perfect but for the price? I would rather order something else

The service provided by Cindy was amazing! She was very helpful explaining the menu. The spring rolls were so delicious they were gone before I could take a pic. The dong ting spring tofu was the best. Everything was cooked perfectly. The jasmine tea was hot. The restaurant was clean

Really good change of pace from most Chinese restaurants in the areas. They offered chicken feet, soup dumplings, etc. service was friendly, but you can order on your phone. Being dim sum style you can really watch it spiral out of control. However, there are some traditionally American style dishes. I'd say you can come with anyone and enjoy a family style meal.

Just dined here again yesterday. Just a quick note that Dong Ting Spring is still serving great fare at reasonable prices and in huge portions. By far the best Chinese restaurant in our area.

Came here for lunch. This place had a full house on a Sunday and every table big and small was occupied. Food was fantastic as always.

We originally planned to eat at the spot right next to Dong Ting Spring, but the tempting photos of food outside this place drew us in--and it turned out to be the perfect decision! The dishes were fresh, hot, and bursting with authentic flavors. Smoked Pork Belly with Smoked Bamboo Shoots was a standout dish. Thin slices of pork belly, bits of bacon, and bamboo shoots came together in a bubbling pot, delivering a smoky, herby, salty-sweet blend that made every bite deeply satisfying. House Special Braised Pork literally a melt-in-your-mouth tender. The rich, thick sauce was nothing but magical. Fish Filets with Pickled Vegetables - While I'm usually not a fan, the slightly sour broth won me over. It paired surprisingly well with both the fish and the vegetables. The broth balanced the flavors beautifully, cutting through any fishiness and leaving a clean, pure taste. Mapo Tofu was specifically warm and comforting. Delicious with rice or even on its own. Pan-Fried Pork Buns & Shui Mai showed as fairly standard, but hearty and filling. We ended up coming back three days in a row, and each time, the quality and portion sizes were consistently impressive.

Authentic Chinese cuisine is hard to come by in Ventura County (I typically make the drive to SGV for good Chinese food), but Dong Ting Spring is a true diamond in the rough! I went here with 8 other colleagues after securing a reservation the day prior over the phone. I honestly thought the service was pretty nice, and the tables were all set by the time I got there. To order food, you have to scan a QR code and select what you want on their website. There are sooooooo many great dishes to choose from -- we ordered the roast duck, dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, stone pot beef, mashed eggplant & green pepper with century egg, cauliflower, and the fried string beans. Everything was incredibly delicious!! The eggplant with century egg is my personal favorite dish; the flavor of the century egg complements the vegetables so well. Everyone loved the roast duck too; it was cooked perfectly and the cabbage that comes with it is so addicting. I barely got any pictures this time because I was too distracted by how good the food was!!

Spicy pepper and meat rice noodle soup. Spicy on both ends!

The food here is SPICY! Lightweights beware. There's a lot of food offering with different meats and seafood. I've held off writing this review for years due to inability on my part to try the multitude of dishes enough to share, but what I have tried so far has certainly been excellent. What I have tried so are the beef rice noodle soup and the stir fried peppers and pork in rice noodle soup. The rice noodle itself is chewy and silky in texture, very satisfying. I was caught off guard by the amount of peppers in the pepper pork noodle dish as it just says "stir fry" in Chinese translation. The spice was cumulative and I could not eat the peppers as a result. Definitely felt it the next day as well... with experience, I ordered beef noodle soup with light oil and light salt and all was good! Vegetarian dishes/versions I've ordered the mushroom medley and cauliflower stir fry. Very tasty but the heat is definitely there even when mentioning mild spicy in the app. They also have a small selection of desserts, and we love the pumpkin cakes! Crunchy in the outside, chewy on the inside! In terms of the ordering experience, it's all in the app on your phone or they can give you a tablet to order. I find it a disconnect with the restaurant in this way and make you have to make an effort to reach out to the waitress/waiter to have any conversation, whether it be to fine tune your order or to get to know the restaurant better. I personally feel going out to eat means human interaction. I wish I had pushed to talk to the waitress to find more like I usually do but it was certainly a barrier. Even when a patron next to me saw what I ordered and seemed very impressed, I personally missed the opportunity to jump in and start a conversation and perhaps encourage them to order what I had next time. Maybe I will swallow the brave pill and press "ask for assistance" next time just to talk to waitress for recommendation. Hard to do for a 1 person meal however. Come by and swallow your brave pill and make the effort to talk to the server like I wish I did and enjoy some authentic ethnic Chinese cuisine

Is the golden lamb soup still on the menu?

Thank you, we have cancelled this dish.

I have been wanting to eat here for some time but the menu does not list ingredients and we do not eat meat. We do eat egg, fish, veggies, what dumplings can we order, also other items- the menu is unclear?

I am not sure what dumplings are on the menu. If you do not eat meat I would recommend the fish, which was spicy and excellent.

Can you order without MSG (flavor wizard)? I tried to order once and I could taste the MSG in the food. I want the authentic food but without the MSG.

    Yes we can accommodate that

Was surprised to find such an authentic spot for Chinese in Oak Park!…read more I came by for a Mother's Day lunch with my family. When we arrived around 1 pm, the restaurant was maybe half full. But clearly it was popular as people were coming in constantly the entire time we were eating. Even though the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, most of the dishes on the menu were more like Sichuan dishes i.e. spicy. All of the food was super solid and portions were ginormous. My recommendation is to order 1 dish per person if you want leftovers, or order one less dish than the # of people if you want to finish most of the food. I don't handle spice very well, so we ordered a mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes. We shared the following: #1 Yunan rice noodles ($16.99) #32 scallion pancake ($8.99) #104 Chong qing fried chicken ($16.99) #107 braised pork belly with buns ($19.99) #109 boiled two items - fish and duck blood ($21.99) Given that the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, we felt like we had to order one of the most popular dishes from that region, the Yunan rice noodles i.e. crossing the bridge noodles. I really enjoyed the silky smooth mixian noodles as well as the flavorful broth. The fried chicken was too spicy for me; I ate one piece and my whole mouth was on fire. Everyone else said it was quite spicy as well, so eat this in moderation unless you can really handle your spice. The 3 pepper signs next to this dish on the menu are no joke! The braised pork belly was delicious, but portions were on the smaller side for this one. Still, I enjoyed making a little bun sandwich with the pork belly and pickled veggies. The boiled fish and duck blood was also super solid. It was just a little spicy, so I was able to manage a couple pieces with the help of rice on the side. Portions were very generous for this dish. We all ate lots of fish and duck blood and still had a ton left to take home. They also have some precooked 涼菜, i.e. cold dishes, on the side you can buy for dine-in or to go. We got 3 of the meats - pork tongue, pork head, and and beef tripe, to go. Paid $16.99 for a huge box of these meats. We thought this was a steal too. Can't wait to try some at home!

The shop has a few small tables situated, but found the floors dirty in multiple places and the overall smell was just not pleasant for such a small place. The table service was handled by an older woman, who may have been the manager. She was rude and curt towards us. When we were finished with our small bowl of the Asian style crunchy noodles and smaller bowl of duck sauce, we asked for more, and she informed us that we would have to buy a bag of noodles for $7 dollars. This is after we were seated and ordered our dinner. The orange chicken was over-fried and lacked taste, while my sweet and pungent shrimp was super soggy, almost relying on the sauce to act as the seasoning. Our pot stickers were ok .. but not great. They also had little to no flavour / seasoning .. and were dried out .. possibly over cooked, as well. I'm unsure if new management acquired this business, but it was not this way a few months ago. Seems like this place is beginning to penny pinch on the small things to save/make a few extra bucks. I so hope this place improves or turns around as I will check in now and again for good news! No biggie - patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you had in mind. I had to write a review because I knew one particular person was going to tarnish them because they didn't have that patience. As I suspected, he did. See the other review entry for today. It's definitely him. Let me share with you the chain of events I witnessed that allowed me to connect the dots so I can likely assume was him. With us other patrons waiting so patiently, because again, the manager was sharing with us how they were looking and was super apologetic. One can only tell you 10-15 mins but hey I knew I wasn't the only one there. Except for this guy who believed he was the only patron and should have been waited on hand and foot. He says 45 mins.
