I had one trip to Thai Peru restaurant and had an ok experience, but would I go back -- I'm not to sure. The service was ok and the food was good but I didn't like the ambiance in the restaurant as I thought it was too cluttered and perhaps it had a dark atmosphere. I think this restaurant could do with a makeover-- just to freshen things up and give it a better atmosphere and make it more appealing. The truth sometimes hurts I know but I can't see me going back unless I the restaurant has made some changes which removes the gloomy and cluttered appearance. read more

Ok here's the deal . I know it's a fusion spot . We're not in Thai town or anything adjacent . But trust me this is a legit Thai spot they have the bedazzled elephants and wood carvings . Lady at the front is Thai. It's legit. Ordered the following : pad kee mao w/ tofu , som tum, larb gai, crab fried rice , and tried and successfully ordered gai jiao(Thai omelet). Everything was great except the larb it was red and tasted like bbq? Maybe they added tamarind or something it was weird but still decent . My wife and I chose Thai Peru for our weekly dinner date because we'd never had Peruvian food...this review is focused on the Peruvian cuisine of the menu. Let me say first the interior of the restaurant is among the most beautiful and ornate in Camarillo, from the cultural iconography of Thailand, to the wooden sculptures, intricate wood paneling and other wooded objects; top shelf. Offering amazing (Thai) ambience. We ordered: Gyoza: fairly standard Papa a la huacaina: we never had potatoes in this way; covered in an amazing creamy sauce. Delicious! Lomo saltado: A dish that reminded me of stir-fry but with Asian flavors. Delicious! Tallarin Verde with Chicken: the chicken was great ! This was my wife's favorite. Was happy to end the meal with a dessert: Alfajores, which I'd describe as the Peruvian version of Macrons. The cookie has some mild resistance With a not too sweet middle/filling. I don't think there is another Peruvian restaurant in Ventura county. That said, our server told us that they've had to limit the Peruvian portion of the menu because it's not popular. They are only serving the very basics of the cuisine which I think is a shame. Peruvian cuisine awesome and my hope is gets more support from the Camarillo community. I feel uncomfortable leaving a review because I see the owner responding and calling out individuals. Yelp reviews should be a free speech zone where customers can leave their feedback and not be worried about retaliation. Nevertheless, I feel the need to share my experience, but unfortunately will not be as specific as I usually am to avoid future issues (so I won't post any pics this time either). Customer Service: 0 stars...just imagine the most rude, unfriendly, mood-destroying interaction you can have, then go one level below that. There were no customers in the restaurant even though it was dinner time and the whole plaza was bustling with people. That should have been a red flag for us. The hostess made us feel like we were bothering her and she didn't even want to talk to us, even though there was no one else there! I saw other reviewers mentioning the same off-putting behavior. If we had seen the reviews before coming, we probably would have gone to the other Thai place in Camarillo that is much better, but we happened to be craving Thai closer to here. Parking: There's plenty of parking in the plaza. This place is in the corner, so you need to drive into the far back. Pricing: So overpriced. $30 for Pad Thai can be reasonable for some nice restaurants, but not this place. All the dishes are quite overpriced; the base price with no protein looks reasonable, but then you realize everything almost doubles once you want to add meat. I've paid $1500 for a meal before, so we are people who are willing to pay more for good food, but not more just for the sake of overcharging in comparison to other restaurants in the area. This isn't a matter of inflation, etc.. Also, the prices are different on the menu, online menu, and online ordering, so I recommend double-checking. The total you're given is not the actual total, there's more added on, such as a $3 fee for using a card. You're not given a heads up on the extra fees and we weren't given the final receipt to keep. Food: The roll we had was quite literally straight from Safeway, charged double. It was dry and tasted old. The rest of the food was good, which was why I am leaving 2 stars instead of one. The portions are pretty generous, but not in terms of proteins. Other places usually put the peanuts in a cup in case you don't want it or are allergic, but here it's just dumped into a corner, which makes it hard to mix. We were also never asked about spice level. I prefer my food spicy and there was no spice at all. The noodles tasted good, but were clumpy. There were also no extra sauces, which other Thai places usually give us. Maybe we had to ask, but I've never had to ask for sauces to mix the dishes before. Luckily, we had peanut sauce and what not at home. Atmosphere: It's a pretty nice Thai restaurant, but nothing too fancy. I would not come here again. read more

A Thai-Peruvian Gem in Camarillo! Me and my friend came here specifically for the lomo saltado--and wow, it absolutely did not disappoint. The hype is real! The potatoes were clearly hand-cut and made fresh to order--crispy on the outside and tender inside, just how they should be. But the real star was the beef: not just any cut, this was real filet mignon, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. You can instantly tell the quality is a cut above. There's a reason everyone's talking about their lomo saltado--it's easily one of the best I've had, and I've tried quite a few. A neighborhood gem with good food and a nice ambience. The dining room has elegant wood paneling, multiple chandeliers and Thai art and decor. The Ginger tea is outstanding, freshly prepared and pungent. The papaya salad was drenched in dressing that overpowered the fruit. The highlight of the meal was the Peruvian dish Lomo Saltado. Filet mignon strips sautéed with sliced red onions, tomatoes, french fries, rice and a delightful Aji Verde made from cilantro, scallions, garlic and lime juice. It was very satisfying. Service has never been this restaurant's strong suit, but on this visit it was satisfactory. read more

The decor here was interesting. They had a white wine and red bottle on each table and served water in wine glasses. The waitress was nice though didn't really explain the different options. When we ordered Tom Yum, she just asked bowl or hot pot without explaining what was good for 2 people to eat. We ended up settling on the bowl which was more than enough for 2 people. We also got pad thai with shrimp and green curry with chicken. The portions were good and plenty to share. The pad thai came with a good amount of shrimp and the shrimp was nice and large not puny at all. The pad thai was on the sweet side but was able to spice it up a bit with the tray of thai spices provided. Careful on the gratuity calculator. I think they must have manually calculated the tip on our check it didn't say it was for gratuity. It was my first time here so maybe they're struggling to stay open or pay employees. I figured i can just leave a review and hope they do better on communicating the additional fees. First time at restaurant. Ordered coke and Diet Coke egg rolls and 2 chow means. Receipt came and to my shock. Coke in the can was 5.95 each. Are you joking. The food is ok. I feel it could be so much better though. I like the idea of this place as a dining option. I have ordered takeout from here plenty of times and these last couple of times I feel like they are not cooking with love. I ordered my usual chicken curry dinner and Seafood Curry dinner with white rice. The shrimp were clean, but there were only 3 shrimp in the tub. The chicken were thin strips but didn't taste seasoned aside from the sauce. The curry sauce is amazing every time except this time but if I am standing in the rain handing over my money it better be worth it. Tom yum soup, the hot pot portion is literally smaller than the regular curry portion, $23 oh yeah and no rice either? Chicken is cheaper than veggies apparently too. They apparently put 3 sides of rice in one large container (im assuming to not waste containers?) and it barley fed 2 people. After spending $100, Id like to think I wouldn't get skimped on rice, but I was. I would steer clear of this place, way overpriced for sub par food, many other Thai options on the area. Back at it again!!!!!!! If you have not tried this place, DO IT! This restaurant is fire, they keep the flavors traditional. I Smashed the sweet and sour ribs along with some white rice. Thank you Thai Peru! I love how they are quick for service, especially when you're hungry. That also depends on the time of day you come in as well. The best Thai food I've had in a long time! We ordered the pad kee mao, masamman curry, and pad woon sen. Would order them all again. The curry was the perfect consistency and the flavors of the noodle dishes were spot on. We asked for spicy because that's how we like it. We went in for dinner tonight (Friday at 6pm). We were the only ones in there. Service lacked due to them only caring about pick up orders or they literally just forgot we were there at all. Although we love Peruvian food, we opted to go for more Thai dishes; however, for our next visit we will try some of the Peruvian options. Staff were friendly upon arrival. We requested outdoor seating to enjoy the fresh air and great weather. The menu was a bit overwhelming with tons of choices. We ordered the veggie egg rolls, chicken satay, and fried rice. All were excellent. I usually don't crazy for egg rolls, but these were perfectly constructed, light with a good crisp. I was craving good rice and a basic dish, so the fried rice was a good option and had nice flavor. The chicken satay was spiced well and not dry. The peanut sauce complimented the chicken well. We have patronized this place for many years, mostly had good meals which is why we've returned. Tonight, I was Ill and didn't feel I could go out so we ordered pick up. This was our first time ordering the Gyoza- potstickers, along with Chicken Pad Thai. Several times the chicken has been overdone, but we asked for NOT overdone tonight. It was. Also the potstickers were dried out and COLD, as if they had freezer burn and then didn't bother to heat them! Flanked across from the Roxy and Dignity Health in Camarillo, it's a great Thai option. It's no secret that Camarillo has lost some good Thai places. Fortunately, this little secret is still here. They offer tables outside and lunch specials. The lunch deals are unbeatable at under $10. The staff are friendly and bring food to the tables quickly and just as you've ordered. The spice level is good, I prefer a spicy dish more than most, and I generally am able to order such here. The portions are generous, expect to take some home. As a Date Night restaurant, this place was great: very good attentive service, food came out quickly, it was hot and the taste was excellent! My husband had Phô Tak, and I had the yellow pumpkin curry with seafood. Both of our dishes had a good amount of seafood, including very large shrimp (not prawns!). Food was low quality, wonton soup tasted like old socks. I'm pretty sure the filet mignon I paid $27 for wasn't filet, and the portion of steak was really small. The noodles weren't very good either. Service was subpar, ignored one of our entrees while taking care of other customers for about 10 minutes. It would have been longer if we didn't ask where the heck our third entree was. Then they tried lying about it, which just was a bad look. My bill was $100+. Seating outside was what one would expect, that was ok. If you want Thai, go to the other place in town on Arniell.
