Been to VooDoo Bayou a few times now and it never disappoints. The atmosphere absolutely nails the New Orleans vibes -- lively, fun, and full of character. It's also a great spot for large parties without ever feeling chaotic. Service is always 10/10, always attentive, friendly and prompt, they are so on top of it you never have to ask for a refill. The food is consistently amazing. Highly recommend the BBQ shrimp, the wood fired oysters (the chili butter is seriously addicting), and the Gumbo Ya-Ya. Every dish is packed with flavor and feels authentic. Easily one of my favorite spots whenever I'm craving Creole food. read more

Many will throw the word "cajun" around loosely and hope that your experience with authentic cajun and Louisiana food is minimal so that you'll like their mediocre fare. I really wanted to like this place but it was a swing and a miss. Parking was easy during the Saturday afternoon we visited. On busier occasions, they do offer valet parking. Nearby businesses share parking so if it's a peak time, you may have to walk a little to the door. Not a long wait before we were seated. Spacious with tables and booth seating. There is a bar and televisions here. Our hostess was nice and offered insight into the menu. For the appetizers, we started with oysters Rockefeller, and fried gator tail. It's a red flag when places smother items in a sauce instead of letting it stand on it's own. No complaints on the oysters and the gator tail was given previously frozen vibes. For the entree, I got the shrimp po' boy. The bread was hearty and held onto the six lil shrimp that they felt were enough. When the ratio of shrimp, bread and topping aren't portioned right, you end up with gaps of the flavor when you're eating. What sent me is the shrimp weren't properly deveined. If you took a biology class, you know that black line running along the back is the shrimp's waste system. I'm not eating that. The hostess saw me just sitting there looking at my food and asked if I wanted something different. Hard pass. Even the waffle fries were bad. They weren't piping hot and dried out inside. I made due with the sweet tea which they did well with. The manager came by and offered to remake or replace my meal. I appreciate his efforts but I didn't want anything at that point. My hopes were high for this place in finding some good Cajun food. I will say that the service was great and perhaps this is one of those days when the kitchen was off. The décor is pretty good and a reminder of what you would see in some new age vampire movie. I started off with the Black Magic Lemonade that I have to say was very tasty. I think for the most part any drink you order will be pretty good. From what I see the mixologist are on a bit higher level than the average ones you encounter at most bars. It was the highlight of the entire meal along with the great service from the waitress. Now to the main part of the review covering the food. The website advertises that Voodoo Bayou is "where Southern charm meets bold Cajun flair in an atmosphere that's as lively and unforgettable as the cuisine itself. Known as the premier destination for authentic Southern-inspired dining, Voodoo Bayou offers an indulgent experience with every visit." Now is this marketing or just the actual truth. I went with the crawfish and shrimp etouffee. Overall, the etouffee itself was ok but the rice at times was crunchy. Usually when that happens the rice is not cooked in enough liquid and kept at high heat. The consistency was not there and with each bite it was like what I would get. I mixed the rice with the etouffee in the hopes of hydrating the rice a bit more, but it was just hope. My wife took one bite of the shrimp poboy she ordered and it was a no. Going back to the great service it was noticed as the waitress came over and noticed our reaction. We said nothing as she mentioned it looked like my spouse was not enjoying her meal. I told her my order was not bad but not the best. The oysters Rockefeller were a good appetizer and did I mention the drink. The manager came over and asked if she wanted something else and she declined. The meal was removed but I am going back to saying the kitchen could have been off. The booth that was right behind me had issues with their food. What got me is that it was an issue with a burger. A burger. Part of their meal was comped. The food was not reminiscent of Cajun. If I go into a place that says they have a "Cajun flair" and I ask if you serve boudin and the answer is, "What's that?" then I should have known at that point. If you know then you know. Anyplace claiming Cajun better have boudin. Living on the gulf coast and I am not talking of just my experience with food in New Orleans, but Breaux Bridge, St Martinville, New Iberia, and the whole Acadiana area of Louisiana the food at Voodoo Bayou was way off target. For many this could be their first taste in Cajun food and many think after this visit this is how it should be. Bless your heart. I wanted to love this place, as the decor and ambiance is incredible. It's dark and moody inside, and the hidden bar off the lobby is so cool to see when the wall flips! That said, we just weren't blown away. Everything was pretty expensive compared to other options nearby, and while none of it was bad, it also wasn't anything to write home about. I visited for a long weekend with my son and his best friend, and this was the most expensive meal we ate, but I think our least favorite. The server was also very inattentive- didn't check in for drink refills, to see how our meal was, etc and we had to wait a very long time for our check at the end of a long night when we were all really tired. I wouldn't come back here for dinner- but if I was with friends, I'd definitely come back to check out that speakeasy! read more

We took the chair ride to the mystery room that I wish somebody would've told me that I can actually just walk through instead of awkwardly sitting on that rotating chair situation. A bunch of us set at the bar and the menus were really sticky and they kind of smelled weird. I ordered a Roku gin and tonic and my friends all ordered specialty drinks. Our server made some great recommendations, and the food and drinks definitely delivered! The only downside was, after we ate, we felt like our waiter was rushing us to clear the table. This is my second time reviewing VB (although I've been many times), and quite frankly my most disappointing visit. The service was, as usual, amazing. Summer was our server and she was attentive, personable, and was the best part of the experience. I always get the fried green tomatoes with the pork-belly, and it's typically a knock out. This time the pork was not as crispy/tender as it's been in the past and very chewy. The tomato however was cooked perfectly. Now, this chicken and biscuit....3/10. The platter is literally a 4 piece with a biscuit. I was expecting more of an equal portion of each, but that's not the case here. The biscuit was actually pretty good! Served with maple butter and honey. The chicken, however was dry, overcooked, and had way too much breading. It was seasoned breading, but since it was overcooked, you couldn't enjoy it. As for ambiance, literally everyone was celebrating a birthday, so a bit annoying at times, but for the environment still rather easy with some wonderful live music. And the place is just gorgeous. Overall, this place is still not bad. I mean everyone has a swing and a miss now and again. I would not count them out just yet. Took my work team out to Voodoo Bayou while attending a conference in Orlando recently. I've been here a few times before and the food never disappoints. We ordered a variety of appetizers for the table. The BBQ Shrimp is always one of my go-to favorites, large shrimp served in a tasty New Orleans BBQ sauce with baguette to soak up every bit of that sauce. The Yellowtail Crudo was super fresh and delicious, and you really can't go wrong with any of the oysters. Their drinks are always excellent. For my entree this time I tried the Brick Oven Roasted Chicken based on our waitress's recommendation. I wanted something different than what I've had before, and it was incredible. The chicken was succulent, marinated and served in a bourbon jus and herb butter, complemented with rice and some great smoky collard greens. We finished with the beignets for dessert, and their description of little sweet clouds from heaven isn't a lie. My husband and I are big foodies and even travel to go try new restaurants. Our lunch at Voodoo Bayou yesterday was one of the best meals we have ever had. First off from the door handles to the entrance, the first impression was great. I loved the vibe and totally felt like a vampire restaurant which was cool. They also play great music and everyone form the host, the bartender, our waitress and the manager were all pleasant and attentive. Jennifer was absolutely spectacular. We started off with half a dozen raw oysters, a cup of gumbo and the cornbread. The oysters came with all the fixings and honestly I could have probably eaten a dozen myself... cornbread is a must with the yummy honey butter and my hubby said the gumbo was delicious. For our entrees hubby got the crawfish and shrimp etouffee which we used to drive 3 hours from Nashville to Atlanta just to go to Louisiana Bistro for their etouffee and the one here at Voodoo Bayou is even better! I got the prime rib only which usually I don't like when it's sliced but it was also absolutely delicious with a side of horseradish aioli and au jus to dip. For dessert Jennifer recommended the Holy Sundae which is easily one of the best desserts we have ever had. We've already recommended to 3 of our friends and will probably become regulars! Interaction at the hostess stand was exceptional. Checked in for my dinner reservation for 2 people. It was not a problem for staff as I waited for my guest to arrive late. The atmosphere of Voodoo Bayou is magnificent! From the theming and decor, to the wait staff and menus, it is all very cool and fun. Where things drop off a bit is in the actual execution of the meals and drinks. Don't get me wrong, this is one of the top tier cocktail bars in town and you WILL have a good time. However the overpricing and weird "membership" push is pretty off putting. We enjoyed our skull shaped monkey bread, but it was a bit dry, our cocktails came out fast and were tasty, just nothing special, and if it wasn't for our fantastic company I'd probably have skipped any other food from there. As it was the menu is good, though if you want flavorful and authentic creole cuisine you can definitely do better in town (Tibby's is a great start!) All in all, fun for a cocktail meet up and an app or two, but don't expect anything mind blowing and you certainly aren't going to impress a foodie. read more

Now when you walk in the place decor is beautiful and inviting. Service is wonderful and everyone is friendly. Not so much for the food. The census from everyone was the same, not so tasty and lacking of flavor. I ordered the Jambalaya. Now I have had Jambalaya many many times and Creole food is one of my favorite dishes. I have never tasted Jambalaya like this, and unfortunately I don't mean that in a good way. The rice had a very strange gritty taste to it, the whole dish lacked of flavor and seasoning. I ordered a side of garlic bread sticks and they sent them out burnt! Hubby ordered the fried chicken and red beans and rice. Chicken looked like the grease was a pass needing to change and also lacked any good flavor. The red beans and rice was the only dish which had some flavor to it. We made reservations ahead of time, which wasn't really necessary since it wasn't busy but that worked out great for us. When we walked in, the restaurant was very dark. It wasn't your typical banana pudding it tasted more like vanilla ice cream, very heavy on the vanilla bean, with a few slices of banana and cookies mixed in. Definitely different. I'm very familiar with Cajun food in the Texas-Louisiana corridor, where Cajun and Creole flavors are everyday life, not a theme. That familiarity raises the bar: once this food travels too far from home, spice often gets timid, rice collapses, and everything turns into a polite imitation. Voodoo Bayou didn't do that. This visit was takeout because time was tight - no sitting down for cocktails, no lingering at the bar. That matters, because takeout is a stress test for Cajun food: heat loss, steam, soggy crusts, broken texture. If a kitchen still delivers pleasure through that window, it usually means their time-and-temperature discipline is real. Louisiana-style "BBQ Shrimp" (the good kind of surprise) I ordered the BBQ shrimp without overthinking the menu and immediately understood what they meant: this is the Louisiana / New Orleans-style preparation - shrimp in a buttery, garlicky, spice-driven sauce. The exterior stayed crisp, and the meat inside stayed tender and juicy - no rubber, no dryness, no "you need sauce to rescue it." The seasoning is confident enough that you can eat it straight and be happy. IPA pairing (it works) I paired the meal with an IPA, and it was the right move. Cajun spice + butter + savory depth needs bitterness and carbonation to cut richness and reset the palate. Each sip made the next bite feel fresh again. Takeout presentation (yes, it matters) One more detail: even packed to-go, the food looked organized and intentional. Nothing smashed, nothing swimming unnecessarily in sauce. It was genuinely satisfying to open the containers-presentation still mattered, even outside the dining room. Service was friendly, recommendations were on point, and nothing felt forced. This time I evaluated Voodoo Bayou under takeout constraints - and it still delivered warmth, structure, and real Cajun pleasure. The ambiance here was really fun - dark, moody, fun decor, and I noticed the speakeasy entrance on the way out. We unfortunately dined too early to see the live music for the night, which started at 9pm, but the vibe was fun regardless. I enjoyed the lavender love spell cocktail - I'm a sucker for Empress gin, and they did a great job balancing this cocktail. My boyfriend enjoyed all the cocktails he tried, with a highlight being the voodoo child - very fun and creative! We shared the cornbread as an app along with some others for the table - I loved the cornbread and whipped butter combo, and the deviled eggs were loved by the table. I ended up ordering the gumbo as my entree, and it was a great move - the portion was generous, and it feels like a staple here. The jambalaya was less of a hit - it was a little overly seasoned for my boyfriend's taste, and others in the group agreed. While some folks were hit or miss on their mains, I really enjoyed mine! The place looks kinda creepy, in keeping with the theme. It was well-subscribed the night I went, so many parties waiting to be seated so I figured it's either good or overhyped. We tried the Redfish and Jambalaya. For the Redfish entree, the scales in the dish are intentional; keeps the grill from drying out the fish. I had to ask after my 3rd bite. lol. It was tasty though. The jambalaya was pretty good as well! I had the Blackberry lemonade mocktail (not pictured) but it was well-presented. Voodoo Bayou is one of my favorite local spots in Orlando. The food and drinks are always excellent and they have some great happy hour specials. And what a vibe this place is! The decor is really cool and makes for a great place to grab a spot at the bar or a table with a larger group. If you like southern/cajun food, this is one of the best places around. Some of my favorites include their wings, gumbo, and filet, but you can't go wrong with anything here. They also have delightful cocktails and an impressive whiskey/bourbon selection. Don't sleep on dessert here either, the beignets are amazing and the bread pudding is just a tiny step below that. The servers are always friendly and food comes out quick. Depending on when you go, sometimes they will have live music, and they book great performers, but it can be quite loud; just something to keep in mind if you're planning to go on a weekend night. Had a blast hanging out at Voodoo Bayou! Live music, tasty drinks and delicious food! Its a bit pricey especially for the signature cocktails so be prepared to spend at least 50-70 dollars per person if you get an appetizer entree and a drink. I think pork belly should be on everything=) especially fried green tomatoes! Just the right amoint of breading and the pork belly put it over the top. Definitely enough for 4 people to share. The BBQ Shrimp and the bread for dipping is a mist. If you like garlic heavy sauce... this one is for you. My ribeye had some cajun butter and was perfectly seasone so no need for any additional salt or pepper. Cooked perfectly medium rare. I accompanied it with the scalloped potato that was thinky sloced and layered expertly! Creamy and smooth with each bite. Last but not least was the chicken and waffles. Chicken was super moist and fried to perfection. Nit ine dry bite. This place and the environment is really fun and the staff are really helpful and kind. Super cute place with a fun vibe and love the live music. We started with the biscuits and my bf had oysters. The biscuits were great and huge honey butter is a stand out. I really wanted to try the fried chicken but couldn't since marinated in a fish substance and I'm allergic Seems odd to do that on a chicken dish. Server had to ask to be sure also. I wound up ordering the Cajun carbonara. Flavor great but the meat should be more prominent and the egg was a bit overdone. My bf had jambalaya and loved it. I visited the Voodoo Bayou based on the recommendation of a bartender we had met earlier in the day. Sadly, we wish we would've skipped the visit to this restaurant. Entering into the restaurant, it was dark with a live music act going on. We were sat down after a while, although we had reservations. We also made reservations at the speakeasy on the property called Roka Hula. Once we were sat down, our server came to greet us and we asked her a question about the menu for Voodoo Bayou & Roka Hula, sadly she gave us the wrong answer which we discover later (Roka Hula stops food service at 12am). Voodoo Bayou is unique for sure, but the price of the food and the quality of the food is not something I would return for. We ordered the smoked wings, which had a very strange Blue Cheese dipping sauce. The BBQ Shrimp was pretty good and the deviled eggs were not very flavorful as well. Was pleasantly surprised with our meal everything was fresh and delicious even the kids Mac and cheese was super creamy which is nice because half the time we order kids anything from restaurants it looks gross. We had a great time and you can tell they care about the quality of food. My only complaint was the service was a bit slow, but it was a Sunday and there was a live band so we didn't mind. read more

Decided on a Sunday brunch after visiting the Yelp event down the street. My first time here and it was super cool. Entrance is ghoulishly cool and a whole vibe ! For starters , enjoyed the BBQ shrimp which was absolutely amazing and the sauce alone is 5 stars and could be sold in bottles . I ordered the bacon Benedict because hello who can resist pork belly. It was good but the biscuits to pork belly ratio were not even so I ended up with more bread left over. Ended with beignets that were as big as my hand and incredible. Really fun setting and delicious drinks. The po'boy is excellent. I did not care for the etoufee however, it was not enough flavor other than the spice. Service was excellent. I would recommend coming you are local and looking for a fun, goth place to go with a group of friends. But if your time in Orlando is limited then this is not a must-visit. read more

The food is really great here. I did try to order a drink from the bar, but both bartenders completely ignored my order. The bar only had one person sitting at it. It is also very dark inside the restaurant, making it a little difficult to see the menu. read more

My dad and I stopped here for lunch one day and I quickly realized this is not the kind of space that I would want to sit down and have lunch with my dad as it was more date night coded, and we were there in the middle of the day I didn't realize a place like this existed in Orlando, but I'm excited that I got to experience it. The food was good. The service was good and there was a live band playing at the time the ambience inside of this place is very dark.
