We absolutely LOVE Visualeyes! They take such great care of our entire family. The four of us go yearly and more. The staff is incredible. Each of them is warm and helpful. They also play great music. I actually found a new favorite band because of them. Recently Jim adjusted a dozen vintage frames that my wife and I have in our collection. They are like new. Visualeyes Optometry is an amazing office. Their staff and customer service are topnotch. I totally see why it gets 5 stars. You are greeted by the receptionist. They offer you water, coffee, and cookies. Appointments are on time. Claudia, the assistant is super cute. She's very kind, patience and incredibly soft spoken that you kind of want to fall asleep. But you have to keep your eyes open for these exams. Hahaha. My brain was conflicted. Brenda reminds me of the comedian, Kristen Schaal. She informs you of your options in a way that she seems genuinely helpful and also cynically mocking you. It was very amusing. Don't get me wrong though. She is very professional and knows exactly what your best options are. Lastly, Dr. Dodge is cool. He has two last names for goodness sake. Right below having two first names. So, since posting my first review here on Yelp, Dr. Dodge reached out to me to let me know how disappointed he was that Visualeyes Optometry had let me down. He explained to me that this situation was related to a certain employee who he was forced to let go (apparently he had made a few of these kinds of mistakes) then Dr. Dodge told me that he hoped I would give them another chance--which he backed up by offering me a credit towards my next pair of glasses. First time getting glasses and I was a little nervous... My friend recommended me this place and so I went here last Saturday. I would start from booking an appointment, I went on their web site , submitted my info online and got the call next day, Tracy helped me to book my appointment, super easy. Finally when I came to the office, I was taking in almost right the way, Moises completed my tests , he was very nice and patient. Doctor was very positive and I felt very comfortable throughout the whole process. Tracy helped me to pick the frame and explained me everything. She was extremely nice and super helpful!!!! Five stars for the staff and for Dr. Lee! I was greeted right away and seen by the doctor in minutes. Dr. Lee answered every single question I had and made me feel completely at ease. This guy is good. He's personable, patient and extremely good at his job. I'm very grateful I found him. I hope the Dodgers win the World Series for him! The staff deserve some recognition as well. I wish I had paid more attention to names but the kind ladies that were working reception and walking me through the initial tests were so nice and professional. I love this clinic! All of the staff are super professional and very welcoming. The main lobby has a nice layout, which makes it really easy to look at all of the glasses on display, so that you can pick the perfect pair to take home. The doctor is also very friendly and super personable! He will listen to all of your concerns and answer any questions you have, and will also give you the best recommendations for different upgrades on your lenses. I personally got the antiglare and anti blue light lenses since bright blue lights and city lights irritate my eyes easily. The checkout process was very smooth; the technicians gave me different ballpark prices for the different upgrades and add ons I was considering, so the overall cost of my glasses was never a mystery and I wasn't shocked at the end when it came time to pay the bill. The process was painless, was able to get an appointment relatively quickly, and even a second appointment for when I missed the first one (that was my bad, I set the wrong alarm). This place is the best, for many reasons. Dr. Dodge is wonderful, knowledgeable, and very attentive. I have never felt rushed or unheard during an exam. The office itself is very nice. The lobby is really lovely- fresh cookies and coffee always available! You're welcome to browse around at all the goodies on the shelves. But what really sets this place apart is the killer customer service. First off, Jim... He has made every experience even better than the last. I was up for new glasses and needed them after I stepped on my other ones. Got my exam and browsed. And browsed. And browsed. I must have come back 3-4 times. Decided on a pair, then decided I didn't like them...just kept getting frustrated, never finding the ONE. But Jim, bless him, never rushed me or got frustrated. He was always attentive, asked me questions, gave suggestions, gave me space,etc. Finally decided on pair and when I received them, they broke in 3 wears. So back I go! And of course, the team is wonderful. We send the glasses back. Then we receive frames that are, welp, not the same. Come to find out that they don't make my frames anymore and just sent back "similar" ones. Jen was great! Called me, kept me in the look, and provided great support. Soooooo back I go again! Jim is there and, as always super helpful and just truly a great human being. Found a pair I think I love even more, and only came in TWICE this time . Had a pleasant visit to the optometrist today! Was greeted happily by Krystina as soon as we walked in and were offered refreshments while we waited. Karen and Dr. Dodge were both so kind and made the whole process so comfortable. I usually feel really anxious doing eye tests, but it's a much more relaxed and easy going environment here. Appear to be nice people, but very poor business practices and high prices. My last doc (I'm no longer in his area) charges literally 1/2 the price as these guys and that area has a higher cost of living than Sherman Oaks. They also give your info out to third party companies who then send you text messages endlessly, making you pay for the privilege of them marketing their services to you. Clearly the people here don't respect your privacy. Stay away. All is not as it appears on the surface. read more

Edit: I am editing this review and trimming some of the stuff because it turned out I had a serious eye problem and completely lost proper vision in my right eye. It became completely clouded and extremely painful and I ended up at the ER. So it was not a contact issue. I did receive excellent and immediate service today. I saw the other on staff. They squeezed me in as soon as I got there and ran lots of tests. I apologized for the review and all in the emails, but in my haste and because of all the previous clerical and communication issues, I chalked it up to bad service. I own that I was hasty with the second half of my review which was assumptions, and I apologize. Updated, accurate review: I saw Dr. Dodge about 3 weeks ago, and he was very jovial and friendly. This is where my good experience stops. As a new patient, I had to fill out forms before my visit and one of the forms was a choice between eye dilation and using a machine. It stated that dilation was covered by insurance and free but had some downsides but the machine was more convenient but $39. I chose dilation. During my exam, I asked when my dilation was and he said he didn't do that anymore. At the end when I was being serviced for glasses, I saw the $39 charge for the machine but was never given a choice or update that I would have to pay for that, and when I mentioned it to the staff, nothing was done. That peeved me. I only wanted to be charged for what was agreed upon previously and covered by insurance. Then, when getting sized for glasses, despite reminding the office staff I had eye insurance they asked for my health insurance also. I reminded them I had a different carrier for eye insurance. When I was given the quote for my eyeglasses, it was insanely eye and the clerk told me I had no eye insurance. That's when I looked at the paperwork and saw they were trying to charge my health insurance. I notified them for the third time of my eye plan, and I had to wait while they ran my insurance (why wasn't this already done?) which was double the time. By that point, I was so annoyed with the service and the undisclosed upcharge that I just wanted to pay for my exams and leave. I did. I had a copy of my glasses rx but asked for one for my lenses. The clerk said he couldn't give it to me because we were "testing it out" with the sample or something. So I left since I'd been there twice as long as necessary. I ended up taking my eyeglasses rx to Warby Parker for a cheaper pair. They came and it took me a minute to get used to them and it's still a bit of a struggle. The rx feels a little off. When I ended my appointment, it's important that the doctor said I have astigmatism and my left eye had worsened but my right eye was the same. I decided I wanted my contacts rx also. Since I decided I wouldn't be returning after all the drama, I emailed the office for my contacts rx. No response. Days go by. I email again. No response. I call and leave a message and tell them I'm going to keep hounding them, please send me. I've reached out 3 times. Someone finally emails and calls to confirm...great. Fast forward to having my eyeglasses about 2 weeks but my old contacts (and I've thrown out the samples because they've become itchy). I come back from vacation and start to work and I cannot focus my eyes with my contacts after wearing the eyeglasses with the new rx at night and in the am. I call the office. They have no samples. I express concern that my right eye is blurrier and weaker than my left in my contacts and that maybe my prescription is wrong. They order me some new samples to try before committing to a new rx prescription. And say it's something to do with my astigmatism and I don't need another appt. I agree. Please do consider updating your forms to disclose all upcharges for services that are not covered by eye insurance, especially since you gave the dilation option which is free as a choice. And I did have my eye dilated today, so I know it is still possible, if the person chooses. Transparency regarding fees is always appreciated. And please try to get back to patients within 24 hours so they don't feel like they are chasing the staff down. Having said that, I do appreciate the emergent care I received today for my vision loss. It was a vast difference from my first visit and initial follow-up outreach (minus Dr. Dodge's friendly demeanor) and much appreciated. Thank you! -Danielle read more

I had a fantastic experience here. I had an issue where my glasses broke, and being from a different state originally, I didn't have an optometrist that I had previously been to here in L.A. I searched on Yelp for reviews on optometrists, and stumbled upon Visualeyes. I figured I'd trust the yelp community and went in to get a new prescription and glasses. I went in and was immediately offered coffee and homemade cookies. the whole office was extremely friendly and had a home-y feel. The optometrist who saw me took the time to answer any questions I had, and when I chose my glasses the staff was very patient with my indecisiveness. I have been coming to this office since 1998 and started out seeing the previous owner, Dr. Stein. While I was skeptical when I heard he was retiring, he guaranteed me that the new doctor, Dr. Dodge was excellent. And boy was he right. Wonderful. As a person wearing glasses for the first time I had no idea what to expect. Dr. Lee was very kind and patient. I felt very comfortable and had no doubts I was in good hands. When we figured out what I needed after testing, I took my sweet time trying on nearly every frame in the store. I'm picky and prefer to be left alone when trying things on, so I appreciated that they let me do that. When it came time to buy contacts, they let me try a few out for free until we found the ones that I liked best. I really appreciated that as well. I went to Dr. Lee for the first time this morning. I am 34 years old and felt like my eyes were starting to feel strained. I asked friends for suggestions on facebook, but decided to google eye doctors in the Sherman Oaks area. Numerous Doctors came up, but I was looking for ones with reviews. Dr. Lee had a few reviews and they seemed great! So I figured it was worth a try. Nothing to lose. I called a few days ago and was able to get an appt in a few days at the time I wanted. I got there 10 minutes before they open and the Doctor was there and gave me the paperwork to fill out. He then took me back to start testing my eyes. The equipment was new and well taken care of. Dr. Lee was funny and joked and made me feel comfortable. I actually enjoyed the visit. Well, it turns out I need glasses. I can't remember the guy up front's name, which is really horrible because he was awesome! Typically, I would have been really stressed trying to pick out something like glasses. But he was so helpful. He walked around the store and picked out a box full of glasses specific for me. I tried them on and he told me what he thought and asked what I thought of each pair. He was taking note of things like cheek bones. He told me he loved what he does and that he had been doing it for over 25 years. I could tell. He then went back for a second round of glasses and brought me more to try on. As we went through the glasses and at the end we both ended up liking the same pair. That was comforting! They weren't expensive at all. He told me every time I put that pair on I smiled. He was right. I really appreciated that he really cared about my glasses and how I felt in them since this was the first time in my life I was going to be wearing glasses. Of course my man's glasses break the day before our honeymoon. Let me start with saying I have been wearing glasses/contacts for over 15 years.. so for the past 15 years I am forced to go see an Optometrist to get my prescription updated. I am very fortunate to say that for 1/3 of those years (or 5 for those that were getting their iphone to use the calculator) I have been going to Dr. Dodge. Dr. Dodge and his staff or so exceptional I cannot think of enough words to commend them. He is extremely knowledgeable, takes his time through your appointment and does not schedule his appointments so that you feel like it is a mini cattle call. Dr. Dodge is upfront with you about cost and will NEVER pressure you to have an up sell any service you dont need. Beyond the elite professionalism of Dr. Dodge is his staff. They are phenomenal. I actually schedule my appointment around Rochelle's schedule. She is amazing and I look forward to going to Dr. Dodge's so that I can see her. Her attitude and genuine spirit are very refreshing.. it makes going to the eye doctor seem less like a chore and more like you are going to see an old friend. Brenda cracks me up and is always up for watching me try on EVERY and I am not joking EVERY pair of frames in the store. They both give you their honest opinion because they know you are representing them when you walk out in their frames and never once have they tried to sell me on the most expensive pair of frames. There is an amazing selection of frames, without being overwhelming. They have designers such as Gucci and Dior, but do not overlook more simple brands such as Lucky. I really appreciate the text reminders about appointments and the Happy Birthday was a cute touch! I cant say enough praises about Dr. Dodge and his staff. My goal was to write a funny review but when it comes to them there really is nothing to joke about they truly are skilled at their craft and love what they do.
