What an absolutely amazing staff of human beings. From the moment I first called to inquire as to what insurance they accepted, to setting appointments and picking up frames, the folks here at Sloan Optometry (including the hilarious optometrist himself) made me feel welcomed. It had been years since I had an eye exam, so I had that weird feeling of being out of the loop with any of the terms or options. Tammy and all the ladies in the office really did a fantastic job of not only educating me, but making me feel like everything was going to be ok. So, I was a patient of Dr. Stanley Postar a few eons ago (circa 2002-?) when the earth was still cooling. When I heard he was selling his practice and retiring, I got all freaked out because I'm kinda picky when it comes to my healthcare providers - I'm not a health freak - I do my best when it comes to taking care of myself and I really don't need some sanctimonious provider on a soapbox judging me for not being the perfect patient. I need a provider that will tell me what the current state is and little things I can do to improve my health. I don't have time for a medical degree mouthpiece ego scolding me like I'm some imbecilic stepchild who's the product of an unwanted pregnancy. Yes, I've had some horrific doctors in the past, if you can't tell by now. That's what I loved about Dr. Postar... and that's what I love about Dr. Sloan. I was apprehensive at first because he isn't as outspoken as Dr. Postar - but those fears were almost immediately allayed... As he's performing his exam, he shares his findings which to me is critical - because it then in turn encourages me to ask questions... and I ask a lot of questions. Being as patient as he is, he answers each and every one of them and I have never ever felt rushed or stupid for asking questions about my ocular health. Again, I'm not the perfect patient, and Dr. Sloan gently recommends little things I can do to make sure I don't go blind and can still give dirty looks to people when I'm 90. He's even forewarned me about things that may happen naturally to my eyes, "at my age" - I get it, I ain't no spring chicken and I appreciate his straightforward-ness. I don't have the time nor the diabetic ego for unnecessary sugar-coating. Don't even get me started on the staff - super sweet, real, down-to-earth ladies. Christie? Amazing, welcoming, and a great personality. Brenda? Straightforward, honest, and most of all - I didn't feel like she was taking me for a VSP insurance-billing ride. She tells it like it is (explained how to fully take advantage of my benefits) and I appreciated that. If you appreciate the gift of sight, go visit this place. And if you cut me off in the parking lot when I'm 90, have faith that I will be able to see you and give you dirty looks. read more

Dr. Sloan WILL NOT give your PD number/s unless you pay extra, even though you are paying for the eye exam?? This is a non-starter for me and not very nice, especially when other optometrists will. It's basically greed on his part - he does not want patients to purchase prescription glasses online, so buyer beware! Also, his selection of frames are out- dated. read more

This place is wonderful! The staff was super nice, and I wish I could bring my computer to hang out and work in their office! Dr. Sloan heard my concerns about my eyes and put me at ease. The front desk staff were extremely rude and unprofessional, They don't inform you accurately the costs when you make an appointment . Brenda asked me to take out the one time try on contacts as I was leaving and tossed them in the trash to prove me a point. Kristy said that the DR erased and deleted my contact lens prescription an hour after my visit Whatever the reasons were those girls should not work with public and need to improve their work ethic. I've been coming here since before it was Sloan Optometry and was a bit concerned when Dr. Sloan took it over from Dr. Postar because I got such great service from Dr. Postar. Happily, my concerns went away after my first visit and I've been going there ever since! Dr. Sloan takes his time with examinations, answers any questions I have in ways I understand and has a great sense of humor. His team of opticians, led by Tammy, are always helpful in choosing the right glasses. And if you really want to get on her good side, bring her a bottle of Faygo red pop or rock 'n rye. I used to see Dr Postar. Even-though it changed hands, I feel it's still fantastic! Love the friendly staff and the selection of frames. Dr Sloan is very professional and through. Love the new equipment used to scan eyes, always hated the dilatation method. Parking hasn't been an issue for me, I park in the back, I use the alley and come thru the back door. I have been going to Dr. Sloan for several years and he is the absolute best! One of the many things I love about him is that he always takes his time and has never rushed through any of my appointments. He is very patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable. The best part is never having to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. The entire office staff is great and are especially accommodating when I've had to reschedule an appointment. Great Doctor, he is nice n professional guy, but possibly he doesn't know that some of the stuff is rude and attitude. Office Manager should be replaced immediately her aggressive response caused only anger and offensive response as well. I order extra pair for cash money should be ready before my trip that was all the purpose of it. I paid but glasses was NOT ready for my International Flight and trips. They had 2 weeks to finished. I had such a pleasant experience during my first visit to Sloan Optometry. The staff was really efficient and made me feel very comfortable during the eye tests. I was taken to the exam room and briefly waited for Dr. Sloan, he was so friendly and personable; he listened to my concerns and addressed them accordingly. My husband and I have been going to Sloan optometry for a few years but don't think we will be returning patients. Initially, we had a good experience with Dr Sloan but customer service has gone downhill fast. Dr Sloan is decent doctor - knowledgable, patient, kind - but last year he over prescribed my husband's glasses!! The biggest reason we won't be returning is that the staff is unprofessional!! I don't think Dr Sloan cares enough to do anything about how the staff treats patients. They messed up my contact lens order twice and when I was concerned about them arriving before I ran out of contact lenses, they did not give me samples to tide me over. It was not my mistake, it was theirs and they did not help me out while I was waiting for the correct contacts to arrive. They also messed up billing/charging me and acted like they were the ones put out by their own error. When picking up my husband's glasses, they were pushy and kept trying to get us to make a sunglass purchase as well. Additionally, my husband was having issues with one of his eyes and the staff would not allow him to be squeezed in for a medical visit that would have taken all of 10 minutes. Instead, he had to pay fees to see someone who wasn't his optometrist to get it check and get medication. All of these things have added up over the years and we likely won't be returning. Bummed that our experience has drastically diminished and we will now have to go through the hassle of finding a new optometrist. read more

Dr. Sloan is absolutely the best. He has an excellent bedside manner for those of us nervous about our eye exams. Every pair of glasses I've gotten from this office has been perfect. Excellent selection of cool glasses. The gals in the office are experts at finding frames that work with your face and features. I have found the current location and the previous location to be convenient, clean and I love the utilization of what appears to be state of the art optometrical tools. Dr. Sloan has been kind, knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor and takes his time answering questions and explaining procedures. I appreciate this very much. In the years that I have been seen at this practice, I have not encountered many problems except for today with one employee by the name of Tammy. She simply needs some work on her customer service skills and professional demeanor. Making a negative assumption and commenting on it aloud as if the customer is not standing in front of you is not professional and seemed a tad passive aggressive. I suggest asking questions to find out where the misunderstanding occurred instead of making a negative assumption. I've been going to see Dr. Sloan for a few years now and I just can't say enough good things about him as a doctor. He always answers all my questions and talks me through the whole exam. While I don't need glasses yet, I do get my sunglasses from them. They have a great Selection for every price point. I also did the optos pictures for the first time and I'm so glad I did! I learned so much about the health of my eyes and it was so cool to see my eye like that. I would recommend them to everyone. I am a returning customer for the Sloan Optometry. I had a bad experience last year with the receptionists and did not even want to talk to them this year. I have emailed instead of calling. I couldn't get any real answer on a simple question: how much is an eye exam for the contacts? I decided to call. I don't know if I called in a wrong time or because they were closing in 4 minutes but I have got again very bad experience and I just can't keep it to myself anymore. Receptionist that worked today on 5th of December 2020 is the worst. I'm sorry that I don't have any acknowledge of contacts type or whatever you were asking me with your attitude and after the question "what do you need?" I just got it. I need to find another doctor. I am a returning customer so she could open her little computer and look up my info instead making me feel like absolute idiot. I just needed to renew my rx. Dr. Sloan and his team helped me out of a serious pinch! One of my contacts slipped out on the highway en route to work from the West Side, and the kind folks at Sloan were able to slide me in for an impromptu new patient appointment. Dr. Sloan is thorough, and he explains your eyes to you in a more careful way than most optometrists I have visited. He made sure I understood the meaning of my astigmatism after I made it clear I hadn't ever fully grasped what the condition meant. That kind of personal care seems second nature to Dr. Sloan. His other patients arriving seemed to be on a wonderful conversational level with all of the staff, and Connie even took time to connect with me on an individual level upon my checkout.
