I've never felt so at ease at the eye doctors! My eyesight is pretty bad so I go at least every other year. Dr. Hyun made sure I was comfortable and was very knowledgeable, explaining each step for the smoothest visit. There's street meter parking and they validate across the street too! How do you choose an optometry shop when there are so many on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City? Look no further: go get your glasses and contacts at Opulent Eyes. Everyone here is professional, experienced, friendly, and so nice. Dr. Kang has 28 years of experience, and she was extremely thorough and explained things well during my exam. Joe at the front desk is extremely courteous and pleasant. Mina is a terrific optician and fitted my new glasses perfectly. She helped me pick fantastic new frames (round purple tortoiseshell) and fitted them perfectly. I also had new lenses put into my old beloved Michael Kors frames, and she fitted those too. In addition, she reshaped two old pairs of glasses for me that had gotten warped over the years (my Coach prescription sunglasses and my Gucci single lens glasses). The customer service here is superb. The price point is very fair. They take a variety of insurance plans. The frame selection is fabulous. I can't speak to contact lenses because I don't wear them, but I would imagine that given such great customer service, contact lens wearers would walk out very happy, just as I did with my new glasses. Here's a nice plus: they validate parking at the Bank of America lot across the street! This is the optometry shop to go to! I am so glad this is my eye place! Recently, my father was visiting me from Illinois, and he severely hurt his eyes while trying to remove his contacts. He was in so much pain, so I called Opulent, and we were able to get him seen by the doctor in less than an hour! Dr. Hyun was so patient and kind and sweet to laugh at my dad's dad jokes. We found out that pieces of my dad's cornea were damaged and chunks were missing! We easily got a prescription, and the next day, my dad felt so much better, and his vision improved! I think they messed up my number in astigmatism by just a little but made a difference in a high number like mine. I ended up going to a different optometrist and they fixed it. New ownership is little greedy and feels very corporate. It might be your jam but it's not mine. I changed to a different provider permanently. read more

TL;dr: Dr. Joel Hyun did a great job, finding the best distance (driving, movies, TV, outdoor activities, etc) and near (using computer/phone, reading, etc) prescriptions for me and answering my questions about eye health. Since my personal preference is not to have progressive lenses but instead to have 2 pairs of glasses, the staff helped me pick great frames (but be aware, it takes up to 4 weeks to get a pair made, at least the frames covered by my insurance; YMMV). *Now a flashback to 2 years ago, when I got an eye exam from another optometry office in Studio City (let's call them Schmoan Schmoptometry). They gave me the prescriptions I asked for, for distance glasses and near/computer glasses, which I chose to fill at stores with great deals on beautiful frames (Warby Parker and Jins, check them out!). Immediately, I thought there was a mistake in how the distance pair was filled, because I still couldn't clearly read license plates when I was driving, and I could just read street signs clearly enough to pass my eye exam at the DMV. I went back to the store and had them double check the glasses, but they filled it exactly to the prescription. I even took the distance glasses to another optician's office, and they also confirmed that the lenses were filled exactly as the prescription. I just figured that my eyes must be getting much worse much faster, and I just had to muddle along waiting 2 years till the next time my insurance made me eligible for a new pair of glasses. But NOPE. It turns out, that *prescription* was off, not the glasses, not my eyes. How do I know? Because this time, in 2024, I came to see Dr Hyun at Opulent Eyes, and he did a CAREFUL exam, and got me a prescription that is absolutely perfect. The first day with my new prescription, I literally was driving around reading license plates out loud because I was so excited how clear my distance vision had finally become! Yes, Opulent Eyes does offer you a free bottle of lens cleaner if you write them a Yelp review, but I had already asked for Dr Hyun's business card before I even knew that because I wanted to share with Yelp people that here is a doctor who is respectful of patients' needs (LISTENS to you describe what you didn't like about past glasses experiences or trouble spots with vision), extremely good at what he does, and who will enable you to read license plates and everything else you need to see for distance vision! read more

Office is nice, doctor is thorough. Front office is a disaster. Lots of issues with miscommunication, delays and dropping the ball on submitting orders. I have never been to such an AWESOME optometry office ever before. 10/10 place. If I could give them more stars I would. At first, I was going to go to Warby Parker to get some glasses. I walked past here, stopped in, and Mina was so nice and welcoming. I wandered over to Warby Parker's but came RIGHT back to Opulent Eyes. And boy, am I glad I did. Mina made such a good impression. I had been looking for an optometrist ever since moving out to LA & probably tried 3 different ones before visiting Dr. Jeffrey. He is one of the most personable Drs I've ever visited and the banter makes me look forward to going in for an appointment. Victor the Optician is also incredibly nice & helpful. He & Dr. Taranto always spend time making sure they can get you the best deal possible which goes a long way when purchasing contacts. Their service is always super quick & efficient as well, to where I never find myself waiting in the front waiting room or in the patient room for long. This one is tough. I like Dr. Taranto very much. he is personable and knowledgeable with an excellent bedside manner; he has the most up-to-date equipment and did a good job explaining the procedures and why my prescription was what it was. His front office/storefront is something else entirely. I like to have glasses made by my optometrist; in my experience, they provide the closest thing to my actual prescription. So I decided to do that again -- big mistake. My appointment was on Dec. 28th; I purchased new frames and lenses that day. I was told it would take about a week and a half; that is longer than I am used to waiting, but I thought it was worth it. On Jan. 6th, I emailed to get a status update - no reply. Since no one replied to my email, I called and was told my glasses would be ready on January 11th or 12th. When I called on Jan. 14th and was told that my lenses had come in, however one of the lenses needed to be redone. I was assured that a stern conversation was had with the lab, they were rushing my lenses, and I would absolutely have them on Tuesday, Jan. 18th. I called on Wednesday, Jan. 19th, and left a message; once again, no return phone call. On Thursday, Jan. 20th, I went into the office. I was told my lenses had arrived; they just needed five minutes to put them in my frames. After five minutes, the manager came back and once again told me the story of lenses being delivered incorrectly. I reminded him that he had assured me they would be ready on Tuesday, and it was Thursday. He told me that it was the lab's fault, they were behind, and it was this way all across the industry. I reminded him of my unanswered calls and emails; his excuse was that he had a lot on his plate. I asked for a refund and went to my car to get the correct credit card to be refunded. When I returned, he was on the phone with the lab (Where I learned that my re-do lenses hadn't even been started). He then proceeded to have a conversation with the lab, on speaker, in front of me. (In what I can only guess was an attempt to prove that it was the lab's fault?) At that point, I just wanted a refund. I had already pointed out that while I might not like lab delays, I could undoubtedly understand them; it was the unanswered calls and emails that turned me off. Bottom line, if you simply want an eye exam, Dr. Taranto is great, for anything else, find another place. read more

I just had my second regular exam at Opulent Eyes and it was delightful! I returned because of their Optomap retinal scan machine which can be done instead of dilation and then you get a digital image record of your eye health to compare to - its nerdy but I love it. The new team there is fantastic - Dr. Kim is confident and proficient, she was able to explain where my eye health is now and what I can expect in the coming years. Joe does a fantastic job running the office. Mina will help you pick out the best frames. Their selection of REALLY GOOD frames is amazing with a wide price range of options. A Surprisingly Great Experience!! I wasn't sure what to expect. When I called to make my annual appointment with Dr. Taranto, I received the news that he had left Opulent Eyes. I decided to give Dr. Kim a try. I was happy with the new staff when I called - Joe, Jordan, and Mina. They were very professional and courteous and making the appointment was easy. Walking into the new Opulent Eyes was visually pleasing. It's so much brighter and more open than before. Plus, Joe, Mina, and Jordan were just as pleasant and helpful in person. Dr. Kim was very hospitable and more than competent. She has all the latest technology. She knows her business and she's very personable. I had just been to another eye store where the woman there told me there was nothing they could do after barely looking at them - she was super smug. The guy at this business, Victor, was wonderful! I'm in undergrad and I have been getting so much eye strain and headaches on the computer. I have to be on the computer for hours every day and then at the end of the day I have a splitting headache, and everything is double.  I went in to see Dr. Taranto and he explained to me that I needed prism in my glasses. I had been seeing the same Optometrist for the last 6 years and he always told me that I spent way too much time on the computer.
