** EDIT as a response to their response ** This is insane!! They are literally sitting there lying to try to save face!! I called on my way to see if I could be quickly helped. Brenda put me on hold, came back on, and said "No we're closed". Not ONCE did she say to come. I even tried to convince her on the phone and she wouldn't budge and kept saying no "We stop seeing patients at one". Why would I say no to coming in when I was on my way during a very small window of free time I had to see if I could stop in??? What is wrong with these people?? I am in utter shock honestly. Glad I found out their true colors early on. Oh boy.... Really disappointed in their lack of care for their patients. Long story short: glasses I ordered are completely wrong and I work extremely long hours, so I am having a hard time getting back into the office (barely could schedule me for an appointment as it is). When I tried to come in 15 mins before closing this past Saturday, I actually called first out of courtesy (I knew I was cutting it close). I was 2 mins down the street and asked if I could quickly come in to show them what was wrong. They put me on hold to ask and then turned me down. I basically begged on the phone for 10 mins and they just said no and wouldn't really offer any other options than for me to just figure it out. Then I wrote a review on Google because I find it frustrating they just don't care or aren't willing to help and work with my insane schedule and my glasses should have been right the first time (I can't see at all out of them). I have never had issues in the past. They responded to my Google review saying that they stayed at the office waiting for me but eventually left because I never showed. I can deal with the annoyance of trying to schedule around impossible hours, but don't sit there and call me a liar to try and make yourselves look better. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else where they care and don't lie. Also Brenda always seems to have an attitude. The other lady is really nice (I'm sorry I don't remember her name). Did I just have an eye appointment, or did I just hang out with my friends? It's both with Sloan Optometry. The staff is great. Both Dr. Sloan and Tammy spent ample time explaining everything to me. Most places rush you in and out, but not Sloan Optometry. They really took the time to get to know me and my needs, and my wants. They aren't up-sellers either (which is VERY rare these days.) They don't force anything on you. A real customer experience that is all about the customer. Oh, and my glasses came in after only 6 days (they quoted 7-10.) After moving to LA from the Bay Area, I needed to find a favorite local optometrist and couldn't have scored better than Dr. Sloan. Thanks to Yelp, I found Sloan Optometry which was conveniently located at the corner of Ventura and Woodman (not too far from the 101, either, for those traveling outside of the Sherman Oaks/Studio City neighborhoods.) Making an appointment was easy and convenient with the friendly receptionist having no problem tracking down my insurance (VSP). After arriving to the clean and orderly office, I filled out the "new patient" forms and was introduced quickly to Dr. Sloan. His manner was friendly, professional, interested and caring. After running my eyes through all of the appropriate tests, he showed me the results and took the time to answer all of my questions (no matter how silly they may have been.) While I could have kept my current glasses, I decided to purchase some new frames at his office but there was no hard sell at all. The staff were informative, generous and pleasant as I wandered through the seemingly impossible task of choosing some new glasses. I was never rushed and I ended up really happy with my choice. I visited Dr. Sloan for the first time a few weeks back for my routine eye exam. He was a referral from a friend. The office was very nice - well appointed. The staff at the front counter was very friendly and quick with the paperwork and check out. Dr. Sloan was great! He handled all the eye tests, walked me through some of the mapping of my inner eye, and explained what he was seeing. Overall a great experience. While I didn't need to get any eyewear, I could see they have a great selection to choose from. When I do need eyewear (I am coming up on 40...) I know I'll find something I'll love! This is not one of those reviews where I get something for rating a business 5 stars. Dr. Sloan (and staff) were absolutely amazing. I scheduled an appointment to get contacts and Dr. Sloan took his time making sure he recommended contacts that worked best for me. I ended up using a trial pair because I was going on vacation. On vacation, I noticed one eye needed a little adjustment in the prescription strength. I called the office after I got back and they had me scheduled within 5 business days. During my "adjustment" appointment, Dr. Sloan took his time to make sure my right I was perfect. I am happy with the contacts and couldn't be happier with my new optometrist. I haven't bought contacts in years because I could never find a comfortable pair that lasted all day. I wear these all day and I forget they are even in. From scheduling the first appointment to the day I walked out with contact, there is not one thing I can complain about. All praise about their customer service and attention to detail. Plus I even got a thank you card sent in the mail. Not too many businesses take time out of their day to write a thank you letter to their clients. I wandered in because Sloan Optometry was on my insurance and I had been here years ago just to pick out glasses. My experience was stellar. I am a hard-to fit contact lens wearer, and my fitting requires fine-tuning and diligence. Tammy was super friendly and looked up my insurance, gave me prices, didn't judge me when I comparison shopped and scheduled me for a same-day appointment when I came back. Dr. Sloan is a lovely man with lots of patience. He worked with me on multiple visits to find exactly what worked best for me. He was determined to make the result great for me. Recommend. It had been years since I had an eye exam and I was overdue. I chose Sloan because it's right down the street from where I live and they have parking in the rear of the building. The staff is very friendly and the appointment started right on time. In addition to doing the standard tests, they also offer a retinal screening. It costs a little more, but removes the need for doing having your eyes dilated and lets the doc see everything in your eye. Dr. Sloan was thorough in his explanation of the results and I'm happy to say, I don't need glasses. Yay! read more

With every brand of contacts I've ordered, have a rebate so you get most of your money back that insurance doesn't cover. Very friendly and always gives me free product when I go in. However I have officially made my last visit to them as a customer because the last 2 visits I have felt taken advantage of when it comes to pricing and fee's. DO NOT GO HERE!!! During a pandemic when people are out of work/ trying to find work and make $ they're charging a $75 fee to just reschedule an appointment. I was fortunate enough to get some work the week of my appointment when I've been out of work since May. I was unable to contact them in the 48hr window due to working and not being able to have my phone. I contacted the. 24hrs in advance as usually that is the normal window and they informed me I would be charged $75!!!! What?!?!!! Since I'm already being charged I cancelled all together. I'd rather go with someone who actually cares about their clients and understands there is a pandemic and people are trying to just get by. I mean what if I developed COVID symptoms the day before instead? They'd charge me for being sick and not infecting them!!!!!!!! Wtf is wrong with this place? Find your empathy during this time. Stop making it about money. I understand that was your policy in the past but majority of people have changed and adapted their policies during this time to reflect the current times and conditions. I went there for the first time and was super nervous. Dr Sloan was amazing!!!!!! He's young but really knowledgeable and will put you at ease. His office was so clean and they put safety first! I definitely felt safe even while we are in a pandemic. Dr Sloan took his time to explain everything to me and answer any questions I had. My insurance did not cover the photographs for my eyes so I chose to pay that over the dilation. That only cost $39. I'm really happy to have found a new optometrist! I cannot laud Sloan optometry enough. The Dr. makes having ones eyes balls scrutinized and judged a pleasant experience to say the least. He is patient and kind. He listens. Even when you ask what every dial on "that thingy over there" does. He is able to how it will not permanently blind you and IS NOT shooting lasers into your brain. His answers are knowledgeable and reassuraning especially when one is even mildly concerned those tiniest line of text are in fact Martian propaganda. It turns out they are not. Thank you Doctor. Most of all The Dr. Primo number 1 at explaining how important it was to maintain ones eye health. ( I was convinced it was only a Mole-man conspiracy to round up those with above average vision for their secret underground wars.) The staff is patient knowledgeable and helpful too. They understand one not wanting to look like a English bulldog in eyewear. They work within a budget, alas I was saddened the did not have "x-ray powers" as an lens option, but did have something for the indisputable fact I am a clutz. In all seriousness the entire team treats you like a member of the family, whom they have not seen in awhile kindly puts up with stupid jokes, dumb questions and, your indecisiveness. I hesitated for a long time before deciding to leave this review. I do not want to negatively affect Dr Sloan's business, but I'm so disappointed by my experience there that I feel other people should know exactly what they're in for. First, I really liked Dr Sloan. He explained my eye exam to me, answered all my questions, was friendly and patient. His exam equipment is new and modern, his office is clean and well maintained. I have no complaint with that part of the experience. My problem began when Dr Sloan led me from the exam room into the dispensing optician part of the practice. Let me say now that I NEVER had the intention of having glasses made there. This was my first eye exam in 10 years. Dr Sloan was recommended by a friend. I made my appointment with him because I'd rather support an independent optometrist than going with a place like Costco. So, I paid Dr Sloan twice as much as I would've paid Costco. And I was happy with that. At the same time, I am on a very limited budget. I looked at the frames they had. Didn't really see anything that I couldn't get elsewhere at a fraction of the cost, but I felt pressure to at least look at the selection. There was one frame that the two opticians insisted were the ones for me, but of course they were from the most expensive lot in the store. With lenses, one pair of glasses came to just under $900. I declined. After a half hour of trying to get my prescription without buying glasses from them, I gave up on politely playing along and they reluctantly printed out my prescription. I couldn't fill the prescription until I received my Xmas bonus which came about a month after my eye exam. When I finally did have the money to get glasses, I went to a couple different online sites that are in my price range. Then I found out that I was not given my complete eyeglasses prescription by Dr Sloan's office because they deliberately left out the measurement for the PD (pupillary distance). I emailed them and was told that they would do it if I paid them another $20 on top of what I already paid. Then I googled "why won't my eye doctor give me my PD" and found out a whole lot about that (there's one optometrist who says "I ALWAYS give out PDs because I never want to give the impression that the only reason I am prescribing glasses is to sell them. I never want my patients to feel shame if they need to make the financial decision to buy glasses elsewhere"). So now it's a month and a half after I had my eyes examined and I still don't have glasses and I can't get glasses without paying an additional $20 for a measurement that should've been given to me with the rest of my prescription. I understand the reasoning behind ransoming my PD, of course. It's got to be hard to compete with online retailers. But there's got to be a better way. I will not return to Dr Sloan next year for my annual exam. I hope it was worth it to them. read more

I went to see Dr. Sloan recently after noticing a major change in my vision over the past few months. I suspected that I was going to need full time glasses and as it turns out, I was right! From scheduling the appointment to picking up my new glasses, the whole process was very pleasant. Dr. Sloan is super charming and friendly, very professional, and very thorough. After performing the exam, he informed me that I should consider wearing glasses all the time. My vision change a lot since my last exam which explained why I was straining my eyes and getting tension headaches. The real fun started after the exam when I got to pick out my new frames! The optician,Tammy, was very helpful and made the process fun and easy. There is a great frame selection that will fit any budget. A week later, she let me know that my new glasses were ready. When I put them on, everything looked...weird. Yes, I kind of freaked out but tried to play it cool. Tammy offered to get the doctor to review my prescription and make sure everything was okay. He came out, looked everything over, and told me that everything was fine, that I just needed to learn to relax my eyes and that it would take a few days to get used to them. His confidence and friendliness in that moment made me feel like everything would be okay. I have never worn full time glasses before, so the whole experience of getting used to the new lenses was strange to me. Turns out, he was right! 4 days later I am still learning to relax my eyes, but things are looking clear and the tension headaches and eye strain are gone! I've been going to Dr. Sloan for over a year now. I was new to the neighborhood and was looking for a local knowledgeable optometrist. I was fortunate to have discovered Sloan Optometry on my way to work. It's always a great treat getting my eyes checked by Dr. Sloan and his team because they are so easy to talk to that it feels like you're there meeting up with friends but at the same time they are professional. He has these fun modern machines that scans your eyes in a way that makes you feel like you're at an arcade playing video games. What's also fascinating is he has a software that shows you the inside of your eyeball to check for any abnormalities. Another plus is that parking is easy and free.
