Headline: Look Elsewhere for your LASIK
I had LASIK with Dr. Berg about 15 years ago. Leading up to the procedure, he was approachable, kind, and seemed like the perfect doctor. He told me I was the perfect candidate for LASIK.
The day of procedure was smooth other than the mistiming of the pain meds at the office so that they kicked in early and wore off while we were driving home. I was left for about 20 min without any pain med assistance shortly after the procedure until we got home, which was nothing short of terrible. After that, my initial recovery was smooth. Having had bad vision for so long, it was incredible to be able to see most things clearly during the day. During my initial followup appointments, I expressed a concern that I was seeing halos and aberrations at night and in low light environments (such as movie theaters). Dr. Berg assured me this was simply due to the normal healing process and once I reached a year, everything would be perfect.
A year came and went, and the issues persisted. At the one year followup, I asked Dr. Berg why my vision at night hadn't improved and if I should be concerned. His tone and demeanor changed almost instantly. He became defensive, dismissive, and arrogant. He told me I exaggerating. He told me he KNEW that my procedure was perfect. I asked if there was the possibility of a "touch up" procedure if these halos and starbursts continued. Included in the LASIK package I bought was a guarantee that included this type of touch up to fix the LASIK if it hadn't been perfect. Dr. Berg told me that wouldn't apply here because my procedure was "perfect" and that I was imagining these problems. I left the appointment shocked. Fortunately, at the time, the halos and other aberrations were manageable.
I waited a few years, hoping things would improve and they never did. I went back to Dr. Berg once more with my issues, and was met with hostility and arrogance. I eventually went to a new doctor who informed me that I was NOT in fact an ideal candidate and Dr. Berg's initial assessment of me as such was "irresponsible as best."
Presently, the issues have increased to the point that I cannot drive at night safely. I cannot enjoy watching a movie in theater due to glare, halos, smearing, etc. I cannot play sports under artificial light due to glare. Had there been any hint of this outcome, I would've never gone through with the procedure. But according to Dr. Berg, this was "perfect." Had I had any hint of the way Dr. Berg doesn't support his patients with problems after a procedure like this, I would've gone elsewhere. Many many people have had positive outcomes from LASIK and I hope you do too. But I encourage you to look elsewhere. Dr. Berg is a two-faced charlatan. read more
