I freaking LOVE this store and Josh is beyond amazing! He's the type of person who goes above and beyond. I haven't had this great customer service, well, maybe ever. He listened to my needs, figured out what really fit my style, personality and aspirations and had great options for me. Beyond that he made sure to run my insurance, gave me several options that were within my budget and best fit my insurance plan, and then went above and beyond in helping me fix a really old pair of glasses. The staff is wonderful didn't have a problem at all. They were friendly and very helpful. This is not about the staff however, I was double charged and as simple as it was for them to charge me, it's not as simple to get your money back. I called and spoke to the manager she gave me a website and a phone number did the website. Nobody responded back number a gentleman answer, the phone gave me another number to the sales audit department sales audit department gave me a reference number told me to call the manager back since they only have two people in the store. She was out for lunch so now we have to wait for her to come back so she can call them and give them reference number in order to fix my double charge. I'm just going to say, when they failed to order my fiancées contacts at all, I still went in, thinking oh, well just one goof. FALSE Within a week I ordered glasses after losing mine, they charged 15 for shipping but neglected to tell me it was going to take more than two weeks! To make that worse they shipped the to the freaking store! The Dr next door was nice but the front desk will leave their life problems on your aura all day, seriously rude! I had purchased a pair of progressives from the Mueller location so I went there when I broke the frames. I was told that this type of break wasn't covered by the warranty and probably couldn't be fixed anyway. They told me I would need a new frame as well as lenses. Since progressives are very expensive, I was really concerned. They gave me the business card of a local frame repair shop so I was going to try that. Then I decided to try a different Visionworks location. I went to the shop at Arbor Walk. Juan took out his tools, gently put the glasses back together, adjusted them, cleaned them and handed them back. Told me that if I need them again I knew where to find them. It took him five minutes. I am 40 years old and this is the first time I will be wearing glasses. They were amazing at visionworks helping guide me as to the best option for my prescription. Letting me try on every pair of glasses more than once take pictures and ask opinions!!! I've ordered regular glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses I received both within 10 days closer to 7 actually. In the past, I have had some very bad experiences with having progressive lenses made and had a couple of pairs of glasses at home that I had never been able to wear. As a result, I had become gun-shy about going through the process of getting a new pair, but when the (very old) lenses I was wearing finally broke, I had no choice. VisionWorks at Arbor Walk is in a convenient location, so I decided to give them a try. Thanks to my previous history with the VisionWorks chain, I was not expecting much. However, this time I came away thrilled with my glasses and with the young man who manages this location. The frame selection is excellent. Unfortunately, plastic nose pads constantly slide down my nose, forcing me to wear the adjustable wire type. It's challenging to find a good selection of those glasses, but VisionWorks has plenty to choose from. The staff at this location are all very friendly and attentive. When I walked in, the employees greeted me, explained how the frames are arranged on the shelves, and answered my questions. That was really helpful! But the one person who turned me into a loyal customer was the manager: Josh Smithmeyer. Josh Smithmeyer went far beyond my expectations in getting my glasses right. He was careful to listen to my concerns, especially about the reading portion of the progressive lenses. When the doctor next door (separate review for that one... ugh!) did a very poor exam, Josh advised me to see a different doctor, which I did. (Separate review for that doctor, too. Yay!) Josh is the only certified optician in the Austin-area VisionWorks chain. He really knows his stuff. From the first meeting with him, he assured me, "We will get these right for you," and he did. It wasn't an easy task due to the bad prescription I had received initially, but Josh remade the glasses with the new Rx, and my glasses are now PERFECT. I can read, sew, and do all my close-up crafting again. Hooray! I did remove one star from this location's ratings due to another employee at the store who, when fitting my final pair of glasses, didn't use the proper tools to bend the nose pads, which caused the piece to break. Thankfully, they had another pair of those same frames into which he could place my lenses. I was relieved, and I'm sure he learned a valuable lesson from this. read more

This was important since I live 95 miles away....I got here and was told I would have to wait 4 days. When I said I was told that they could work with me and that I lived out of town, the man said, oh well must have been miscommunication...... no sorry or let me verify. Just sat and sat and sat waiting to buy glasses with prescriptions in hand should other customers who just wanted adjustments came and went. Apparently the employees who could actually help me were gone and the two present could only fix things and take payment. When the employee who finally showed up who could help, he did fine. Total time in store 1 hour 4 minutes. Well today... Weeks later... I finally have my glasses. No one ever called to say they arrived. I lowered my rating from 3 to 1. I had ignored the poor reviews because at two times in the past the service had been good. Since the change in ownership it was worse than poor. When I commented about the poor and non value added service (work is sent in from San Antonio... The store only has to call and say the glasses have arrived) the Asst. I ordered contacts from vision works on two occasions. The first time, they convinced me to take generic lenses and I had recurring terrible eye infections. When I called them to discuss they insisted that generic are the same as brand - will never make that mistake again. I triedagain to order contacts about a year later (will I never learn?) and while I got brand name contacts, It took an hour to wait in line and place order, and two weeks for the contacts to arrive. Then I had to wait again 20 min just to pick up the contacts. Wish I had just ordered online, and noted that some online companies offered a pretty good discount for multiple boxes. Wonderful experience shopping for glasses! I was greeted when I walked in, yet left to browse their extensive collection on my own. When I had questions about how different styles looked on my face, I felt like the staff gave me honest feedback. I was lucky that I came in when they were having an amazing deal - 50% off everything, so of course I chose two frames instead of just one. I believe I worked with Thomas to check out. I had created a bit of a mess by already purchasing my contacts out of pocket. Thomas was very patient and kind with me as I was on the phone with my insurance company and eye doctor's office for quite awhile while I switched everything around. I was impressed by the way I was treated as soon as I stepped through the door, Tammy greeted me, asked great questions and made sure I found the frames that were right for me. She educated me on the offered Visionworks had and made sure I had the best deal. There was a buy one get another pair free offer which I loved. One of my pairs wasn't ready and they were sure to call and let me know. I was able to pick up one of the pairs and Debbie (Mananger) greeted me and helped me out right away. Buying eyewear is always a struggle for me, and usually takes more time than I have and Im still never completely satisfied. I went to the Arbor Walk shopping center just to start the process of looking. But, while I was there the whole staff joined in helping find some fun frames that fit my needs and personality. If I could give this location no stars, I would. JC is literally the worst manager I have ever spoken with and the least accountable. I spoke to him two and a half days ago and explained the urgency in my need for contacts - I, also, explained if insurance cannot be used, DO NOT delay my order - place it and call me. I call today and he attempts to tell me when he called, the call went straight to voicemail - BS! If it went straight to voicemail, why didn't you call back or leave a voicemail? That's the biggest lie that is told in customer service - "I called and it went straight to voicemail" - that's what lying managers do when they want to claim they did something (trust me - I've worked years in customer service, but I'm an accountable District Manager - that's how I got my position). You should ALWAYS leave a voicemail so it is then on the customer to call the company back and it, also, serves as CYA because a voicemail was left. Anywho! Of course I'm frustrated now and he has no clue how to de-escalate me or be accountable - instead he just says, "I can't help you" because I cussed and said "Damn" two times - SERIOUSLY?! You don't know how to de-escalate and explain next steps to make the error right?! You don't know how to deal with frustration that was caused by you, JC?! HOW DID YOU BECOME A MANAGER?!?! I even asked him a simple question of, "Can my order be expedited?" - he says, "Probably, but I can't help you now because you're rude." He was so childish, I felt the need to treat him as a child - children are afraid of frustration. If he would have been accountable and made it right, I would not be writing this review today, but it is poor management (like JC) that makes or breaks the customers opinions in situations like this - he did nothing and showed no professionalism - only punk ass-ness. His manager then gets on the phone and says he is busy and trying to help customers in the store so he probably couldn't call me - for one, why didn't he say that? For two, why allow phone orders then? Not a good enough excuse. I went to Visionworks due to knowing a District Manager for Visionworks - I'm so happy I know him and I'm so happy this experience was recorded today. I will never place another order with Visionworks - it was the worst experience I have ever had and I hope something gets done about JC's poor management skills. read more

This store deserves NO stars. Every staff member I interacted with was flippant and rude. I had to come back to the store less than a month after I purchased my glasses which costs upwards of $200. The lens had a deep scratch on them. I was not only accused of scratching the lens but informed I could purchase a retroactive protection plan when I informed the staff member that I was not offered the protection plan he again told me that that doesn't make sense. Not a single interaction that I had with their staff was I respected or valued as a customer. Only after I contacted the company headquarters customer service was I offered to have my glasses (which were damaged!) at no additional cost. Even in that last interaction I was informed that it was a "one time" repair. On the other hand, I will NEVER use Vision Works again anyway. Do not waste your time or money!!! read more

Big mistake - I trusted Visionworks and its employees to be honest. Honest means not hiding information or misleading. I had them call and check on my insurance coverage. The employee came back and told me that I would have to make the claim directly and submit it own my own. The store could not process it. Ok, I will check on that later. Later, I find out that the reason it cannot be processed is because Visionworks was not an approved provider on my plan. I believe the employee mislead me into thinking coverage was possible. I don't like dishonesty, in whatever form or fashion it comes. My mistake was to trust Visionworks. I won't make that mistake again because I will never do business with Visionworks. Can I select a negative 5 star rating? I'd like to. Let's start with the end= **public service announcement*** DO NOT SHOP HERE FOR EYEWEAR . Or rather, do not shop for lenses here. I'd shop for frames here, but will NEVER shop here for the lenses again. Wanted to wait until my eye glasses were complete before giving the company an official survey via their page, but the never ending quest for a good pair of glasses from Visionworks seems to be elusive at this point, so a public blast is in order. -Went in at the end of December 2015 for glasses. 3 remakes and two different frames later, I am without glasses. **as of this posting, they still don't have it together** -Helpful tip #1= Bring your pricing listing from your insurance carrier if you are going to use your insurance. This will save you from the associate trying jack up the prices on you and you can call them out right then and there. ( I called the associate out 3 times before they finally calmed down and started using the official insurance company's price listing.) Research your options and pricing with another company first before even stepping in there, that way you can make a solid decision whether to continue with the line of mess you will be fed once you are in there, or simply walk away. (I learned this little trick when I visited the one in Round Rock when they were called Eyemart a few years back. I price rage quick back then and didn't buy from them) do your homework. - Tip #1.5 = if you are NOT using insurance, go elsewhere, maybe even Walmart. Reason= Their buy one, get one pair free tactic is only beneficial if you are getting the bottom of the line plastic cheapy-cheap lenses. Any extras are basically jacked up to about double the actual cost. (almost price rage quit on this visit, but the associate back peddled and blamed the $500 price on "forgetting" to account for the insurance discount...rriiiight.) -Helpful tip #2 =Beware of pricing tactics. When they give you numbers on the lenses, assume every number that comes out of the associate's mouth is PER LENS. Not per pair, but PER LENS. Going in with this knowledge will save you time, as they won't tell you the numbers are PER LENS until you've already been in the store for about an hour and have been worn down by the sales pitches, and pretty much are ready to agree with anything just to wrap up the transaction. Classic wear down sales tactic. - Helpful tip #3= Be prepared to spend at LEAST 2 hours in there for a buffer time. If you plan on going in, go in on times when the masses are at work. ie- 10-4pm m-f. Forget about going in during the weekend. You are pretty much guaranteed to eat up a quarter of your day waiting around for the associate to get to you, but then when they do, they are still handling other customers that come in the door when they get up to supposedly do something for you. By the time they get back to you, they've forgotten what they got up for in the first place and have to go back for it. - Helpful tip #4 = Go in with ALL and I mean ALL of your glasses information beforehand...and NOT just the prescription. PD= pupil distance (they measured mine at the store and it ended up being wrong on the first pair. I actually had to correct THEM when going in on the remake. When they measured it a second time, miraculously the information I gave them matched up to the second measuring...hmmm) Base curve = This basically is the roundness of the glasses and helps your eyes to be comfy when you are looking elsewhere other than directly straight ahead. You can tell this is off if you try to see long distance or to the side (granted you're near sighted) and you get that sort of vertigo feeling or your either of your eyes start doing a "squinty" dance. Have your eye doctor check both of these and put the information right on your prescription paper, because Visionwork's numbers are pretty much off. And NO, they won't check the base curve unless YOU bring it up. - Helpful tip #5= If your shiny new glasses are feeling funky, visit your eye doctor a second time for a prescription check (most eye doctors you get your exam at will check your new glasses for free). If they are even nice enough to do a second eye exam to check for consistency and the numbers all line up, be prepared for a slew of excuses from Visionworks. My 3rd visit to them, they've told me everything from "you're eyes are just tired" (I just woke up 2 hours ago from a good night's sleep...my eyes are not tired) to "oh, well your doctor must not have THEIR tools calibrated...." Let that one sink in for a minute... read more

Overall, my experience at Visionworks was great, but this review is mainly for the general manager, Bianca. When I went in to order my contacts, she was by herself and the place was full of people. I'm not sure that I've ever seen one person manage so many things, so flawlessly. She was kind, friendly, efficient, and incredibly aware of everything and everyone in the store. I picked my frames late afternoon and about 3 hours later my glasses were ready to be picked up that same day. The process of looking for new glasses has never been pleasant for me. I am a deaf woman and I can speak and read lips fairly well. Now, it is important to the review about my deafness. Pradel was truly amazing. He was very patient with me and super nice while being professional. I learned a lot about lens among other eyesight related topics from him. That was a first for me to actually have someone take the time to explain and educate me on those topics. I have wore glasses since I was around 5 years old and I am 43 now. He actually made the process very pleasant and fun. I have had many employees be rude or very impatient with me or not take the time to make sure I understood and was satisfied because of my deafness. I tend to want to understand 100% of something important such as which lens would benefit me, etc. So, the fact that he just talked with me normally and answered my questions. I live in Hutto and there is a VisionWorks near me in Round Rock, but I am willing to go to Austin at this VisionWorks just because of Pradel.
