Edit: I'm adding the star back in. Yesterday was definitely a fluke and this place is amazing. I walked in today for a gel manicure and I was seated immediately. Gel was $30, she said it will be $33 next time to include taking off the previous gel polish. This place really is amazing. Why I Took Off 1 Star: I called at 9:45 to ask if I could come in for a Mani Pedi at 10 and was told they could take me then. So I got there at 10 and the place was packed, I waited for about 20 minutes before I was seated in a pedicure chair, then waited another 15 minutes before someone fill the tub with water. Then I waited another 5-10 minutes with my feet in the water before anyone came and started on my feet, the water had become a bit cold by that point. I didn't have time to get a manicure because it took 1.5 hours to get a pedicure. The technician said they have three people on vacation and that's why it's so busy, she did apologize for the wait and thanked me for my patience Why this place is great: any other similar nail salon that I have been to give a half-ass pedicure unless you get their "spa package" pedicure. This place still gave me a great pedicure even though I got the basic level one. She massaged my legs and feet, scrub the bottoms of my feet, offered me refreshments, etc. It was $27 for the pedicure which was $1 cheaper than the last, less satisfying pedicure I received. I was hoping to have a good experience here based off the reviews but I didn't. Maybe it was my fault that I came in while it was busy but there were so many other walk ins that got taken care of before me. I waited close to 45 min before we even got started. About 3 different nail techs came to me and started working on getting my gel off. It was just too much of a cluster. They all knew that they were wrong because everyone kept apologizing about the experience. I pay to get my nails done because I find it to be relaxing. This was not a relaxing experience for me. So yelpers, I have been a little selfish. I debated about writing a review about this place, only because I am not sure if it is in my best interest for me to tell others about this rare gem. It is my belief that this nail salon is a gift from god. Like, I literally drive from Capitol Hill to this location, just to get my bi-weekly fix. If that isn't saying something I don't know what will. It's by far, the best nail salon that I have been to in the DMV area. And, probably ever, if I were to be honest. So, when I found this place (by mistake actually) you can see why it took me a year to write this review (More people means longer wait for me, higher prices ect)... but here it goes.. I am a huge fan of the gel manicures and the pedi's. I have never seen nail technicians handle each finger, and each toe, with care, and concern. And, the icing on the cake is that they use OPI axxiom (sp) for the gel nails. Most nail salons use OPI, but the newer version of gel, that comes in an ordinary nail polish bottle. Say what you want, but the old school way is SO much better. If only because it looks better and last much longer than the new kind. Addtionally, I get complements DAILY. DAILY. on my nails. Part of me hopes tha tyou will never go, just to keep the price low.... but part of me wants you to go so they can stay actively busy. Nonetheless... you wont be sorry that you came. ****update**** I was contacted by the owner of this business who was really sweet and apologized for my poor experience. He invited me back again and I agreed to return . I brought my best friend as she also needed her usual mani/pedi and would be able to be a second opinion on my return visit.I was immediately greeted by Kevin, the owner. I then met Ann, who was really great. She did an excellent job on my gel manicure and ensured I was happy with the shape, polish color and overall service. I appreciated that the shop was a lot less hectic this time. It did become busy , shortly after we arrived at 5, but everyone was being assisted and seemed content. My best friends nails also were beautifully done! A special perk of this nail salon is a customer gift at the end of your visit. We were able to choose from a table full of great beauty and skin care goodies!! That definitely makes you smile! I plan to come here again in the future and my friend is also coming back. My only reason for not giving five stars is because my gel manicure still took and hour and 30 minutes while my best friend's gel manicure and gel pedicure were completed in an hour! I don't like rushing my nail services but if anyone is needing a time sensitive appointment, make sure you mention that in the beginning! Thank you VIP nails for helping change my opinion! I thought an hour and 20 minutes was pretty long but this trip showed me it's possible to spend your entire evening drinking coke and being worked on for a simple visit. I was worked on by a woman who was not very friendly and definitely liked to take her time . She yelled at me twice lol because I tried to move my own purse! She cut my finger because she was busy chatting with her coworker's who were leaving at 8(the time they technically close) and wanted to see what they were up to. She did apologize for cutting my finger with her very sharp tool-but I can't say it was very genuine . I can't recommend anyone to visit this location because the customer service and time of service really isn't ideal. I don't know what it means when fellow Yelpers say that it's inexpensive, I think the price is normal... about $50 something for spa pedicure and manicure. Either way, the spa chairs made it worth the price, it really grabbed you and gave a great massage. The thing that really stuck out was that the ladies working there really seemed happy to be there. I don't usually get manicures, but looooove getting pedicures and relaxing in their cushy massage chairs. IMO, the Best part about VIP nails is the extra-long leg and foot massage that comes with their pedicures. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I went here to get my SNS done because I was too lazy to drive to Sterling to my regular salon and it was a huge mistake. I literally just left this salon and this is how my nails look after said SNS manicure. Yep, you read that correctly. When the tech was using the drill to file my nail, I wasn't too thrilled about it because the drill would thin out your nail bed, no matter what nail salons try to tell you (that it's harmless). I didn't say anything because I figured with a SNS manicure, I probably wouldn't need another manicure for another 4-6 weeks (from previous experience). The horror became so real when she applied the "primer" coat, then the first coat of powder - it didn't stick evenly. I told her it didn't look right, she assured me it would be ok and proceeded with all fingers. Then came the second coat, it looked even worse because she didn't use the drill to file my nails evenly and now the powder looked so weird, parts were darker than others. I told her it didn't look right again and was visibly annoyed. So the owner came over and lo and behold she realized this tech had been using the sealer coat instead of primer and that's why the powder didn't stick!!!!! And she didn't know the difference between the two coats!! Well now obviously the only option was to take the TWO layers off and reapply. I had to soak my hands in acetone then had my hardened powder scraped off. You can imagine how damaged they were after being filed with a drill then being scraped off like that. Clearly you can see the result in this picture. The owner offered to redo my nails for free but I'd rather pay full price to have it done properly than having a half assed manicure for free. To top it off, when I tried telling the technician that my nails did not look right, the other techs chimed in (in Vietnamese) that I was so difficult. They didn't know I was Vietnamese and understood everything they had been talking about. When confronted, they tried to walk it back and said "no, we meant the SNS manicure was difficult". Oh please. Born and raised in Vietnam, you don't think I understand the language? Advice to this business: please make sure your techs are properly trained before serving customers. You probably don't need my business, but this business is not sustainable if you treat everyone this way. read more

I've been there 3 times in the last 6 weeks (for good reason). They are very clean, they really do their best to make sure you are satisfied. Although, i've been with 3 different technicians, I recommend two of them only. Linda and Lisa are phenomenal. Linda's gel manicure lasted me 3 weeks, no chip. The only reason i went back is because my nails were growing in. Lisa is the best if your super picky about your cuticles, she makes sure to get them taken care of. (UPDATE*** Lisa isnt there anymore and I'm really picky about my feet being super soft and "ingrown nail free". TAMMY is the person to go to for pedicures! Absolutely great.) They do give free lotions, shampoo etc..when you spend over $15. Their prices are very reasonable, and they serve you refreshments and candy when you walk in the door. If you are a gel manicure person, they do not have the biggest variety of gel manicure so I would recommend bringing your own. On the other hand they have an miraculous amount of normal nail polish. I would definitely make an appointment before going because they are always slammed. read more

It was pretty packed on a Sunday afternoon, but they have a lot of staff and I didn't have to wait at all. I liked this place because they didn't rush the pedicure. If you like a good foot/calf rub, then this is the place to go! Granted my lady kind of manhandled me, but I didn't mind at all. My feet need all the work it can get. I don't go to the nail salon often, but I'll definitely come again. I felt like $36 for a good mani/pedi was a great treat for me. The "free gift" thing that many reviewers have mentioned is a table of random products. I went to this place because of Yelp and I was not disappointed. As others have said, once you arrive and have given what services you would like you are offered a drink and snacks. I got a pedicure and OPI gel manicure. The pedicure massage was very good and that alone was worth the money. Having had CND shellac before, I will pick OPI every time from here out. I just plain like it better and the shop only has OPI products! I paid $51 for both services which is on par for the area. The bonus for me is that they are 5 minutes from the house. Saturdays tend to be busy in spurts. I arrived around 11:45 and was home by 2. If I had waited till 12:45 I would have been home at the same time. I really like this nail salon.. Have come 3 times so far. I feel as though they really take their time with each and every customer they have. They are VERY busy at times that it hard to wait.. I took my boyfriend to his first pedicure here so he was very nervous but overall he was treated no different. The ladies really treated us so kind. Nooooo! This WAS by far my favorite nail salon. But in the last month or so it was sold to a new owner and it's obvious (even if the owner hadn't told me 3 times that she recently bought it). Also, the technician was openly annoyed that I picked a light color so it needed more than 2 coats. The only place I go to for pedicures! Very sanitary. They use a new plastic cap inside the bowls each time, use sanitized tools each time, and they open the nail file/foot scrub from a new package in front of you. Not many nail salons are this clean. They also offer drinks and candy while you're here, for free. The massage chairs are great & work. Every nail technician is capable, and the whole salon takes their time giving you a foot massage. They do not rush whatsoever. I've only gotten my nails done a couple times, I have acrylics and use gel. They've done a good job each time with that too. read more
