My husband, grandchildren, and I were visiting Fort Matanzas last week and in search of a lunch spot. We are so happy that we discovered Viola's! The staff was very gracious and welcoming, the dining area was lovely, and the food was absolutely delicious. The children's meal servings were substantial and a big hit with our grandkids. We have visited St. Augustine for over 25 years but have never heard of this restaurant until yesterday. We had a party of four and got there about 30 minutes prior to closing and didn't know about reservations but the owner/hostess was very gracious and got us a seat at the bar. The food was FANTASTIC!! My husband has the veal Marsala, I had the angel hair with olio and shrimp, my daughter had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and her friend had angel hair with meatballs and marinara. We all also had Caesar salads and got some garlic bread knots and calamari to share. We can't say enough about how delicious and fresh the food was. Service was fantastic as well! We 100% recommend this restaurant and will for sure be adding it to our regular places to visit. read more

This is a disappointing review to write. The lack of health and safety concerns in this restaurant should be addressed in order to protect the greater good. If an establishment lacks regard for basic human safety during a pandemic, then one can only imagine their lack for food safety and personal hygiene. Sadly the owners of this restaurant do not value their staff or customers lives. While meeting the 50% mandate of the state, there isn't a mask on site by employees or staff. The service industry is in need of support and to see owners value a small portion out a selfish population that has decided the protection of others is an inconvenience leaves me speechless. I surely hope the manager is willing to cover all medical bills and salaries of their employees or customers if anyone gets sick. Now the food, to be honesty it's overly garlicky and not well seasoned. It's "okay" for American Italian food. The food lacks balance and it's not cooked with love. Plates are cold and presentation is mediocre. I would not go out of your way to visit this place, it's about as average as a chain restaurant. You should spend your money at a restaurant that values human life and actually taste good. If you're a local that wants a regular place to enjoy with friends, recommend finding somewhere else. If you're near Butler Beach, Viola's is a must do! Service is the best around, the menu is classic Italian with portions that are ample, and offer a respectable wine list of Italian and domestic wines. Be sure to ask for any specials, as the blackened salmon we had over pasta was delicious and we had some left over for lunch. Also be sure to order the garlic knots. The hostess was quite warm and prompt in welcoming us and our server, Anne Marie, was attentive and very helpful in our selections. We are certainly to be back during our stay here on the beach. If you're in the mood for something a bit more casual, they offer pizza as well. By the way, it's well worth the drive if you're staying closer to town. Make a reservation, and I would suggest doing it in advance. It can get quite busy. read more

What an unexpectedly pleasant and delicious surprise! We stumbled into this place on our way to Jacksonville. It was getting late and we figured we would get off the highway and grab a bite before it was too late. We started with homemade soft pretzels with a delicious beer cheese dip. I had a Thai shrimp wrap that was outstanding. The flavor of the homemade dressing was incredible. My husband loved his jerk chicken taco. All the marinades, dressings and sauces are homemade and you can tell. Highly recommend. Love the old school decor (not new to make it look old school, a real old school place). If there is a downside, it is that it is always crowded. This place is not a secret! This place has been recommended to me for awhile, and tonight I finally got a chance to try it. So glad I did, and I'll definitely be back. When I try out an Italian place for the first time, I usually get something basic--because if a simple dish isn't right, chances are the rest of the menu is a gamble. I ordered chicken parmigiana over angel hair, and it was excellent. Frankly, one of the best I've had anywhere. Our new favorite restaurant in St Augustine. We liked it so much that we went twice during our short trip. Decided to try it on a busy Saturday night and managed to get a reservation. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Debra (owner and manager) as if we were the most important people. The atmosphere and ambience are lovely and there are tons of menu selections. We had bruschetta, pasta vongole, veal marsala and creme Brule. All were delicious both times. Wanted to try something else but our food was so delicious the first time, we got the same thing again. We did a carry out of this restaurant and the food was amazing. The pasta my husband and I got were both very tasty, and I would highly recommend the garlic bread. We came in tonight for our 2nd visit. Food was very good! The pizza and Salad were great! We all had Pasta meals and were planning on taking home our left overs. We had three to go foil containers with clear plastic lids. We asked for a to go bag but it fell on deaf ears. Ordered online. Before I left the house I decided I wanted to sit and have a glass of wine.
