Apparently, this place I'd been dying to try for months doesn't want my business. I walked in simply to ask for a to-go menu and was met with... nothing. No greeting, no acknowledgment--just silence. When someone finally emerged from the back, they didn't say hello or even offer a quick "I'll be right with you." Instead, they walked right past me to take an order at a table. That level of indifference is unacceptable. First impressions matter, and this one couldn't have been worse. Stopped in as a 4 on a Monday evening. We were able to be seated right away with choice of inside or out at one of the casual red/white checkered tables. Christine our server took great care of us. The menu is filled with many great dishes, salads, soup, pasta and pizza with additional daily specials. We started with wines all around and then ordered dinner. I went with the rigatoni bolognese special and others had the pasta San Remo. Everything was hot, delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert. My pasta was so dry I asked for a little more sauce. Guess what? The old cranky owner charged me $1.00 . Are you kidding me. Just spent over $200. Dollars and you hit me for a dollar. When my husband told the waiter that bad enough we waited over 1 hour and 1/2 for our food. The owner was that hard up for a dollar. The owner response was a rasp!!!! Like who cares. He lost good customers. Bad enough he's so cheap wouldn't hire more than 2 staff members who ran around like chickens without a head. Plus what italian restaurant doesn't give you bread to dip or eat. This place doesn't but you can buy bread. P.S. Don't even ask for more dressing if your salad is somewhat dry. Thats another dollar. The food as always was excellent. Well prepared, presented well, and quite delicious. However the service was lacking. We had a new waiter, who was trying but kept disappearing. The other two seasoned waitstaff filled in. The restaurant was nowhere near full. We would like to return for the food, but will watch for reviews on service. read more

The special menu was intriguing so we split the Eggplant Buratta. It was exquisite . The gravy (sauce) was perfect. Crispy eggplant on outside as advertised and buratta was fresh, home made and perfect . Stayed with main menu and both ordered pasta-rigatoni and tortellini both done to perfection with outstanding sauces. Staff was wonderful. Neat little setting with Italian music in background. I know the restaurant has been here forever and had its up and downs. This however was as great of an experience I have ever had at an Italian restaurant- and I am from New Jersey where we have some great ones. Try it- you will love it. read more

The restaurant is quaint, it is small so you feel like you are getting one on one service. The waiter we had suggested a new dish the owner/chef had just started preparing. It was amazing. It was a little pricey but well worth it and I would order it again. It had large scallops, shrimp and a larger than expected lobster tail. I visited on 3/23 with a party of 8 and we had a reservation for 5:45 p.m. everything started great, we were seated promptly, we ordered an affordable bottle of wine, and had some appetizers. Unfortunately, that's where the good times end. We discovered that there is only one chef at this restaurant, he takes pride in the food he serves, but my definition of pride is different than his. Because there is only one chef, we were not served food until 8 p.m. furthermore there were three hairs in one of the dishes (see highlights circled in red in my photos). We did not complain, my husband simply ceased eating. The service was okay, the servers were relatively attentive, but one of them didn't know the dishes being served, which caused a lot of confusion. For instance, one circumstance involved her bringing dessert and saying it was some sort of limoncello dessert, when it was in fact an almond cake. She had to check with the "kitchen" - one chef to confirm. For what my opinion is worth, a restaurant needs more than one chef, if your restaurant has one chef doing everything corners will be cut, and it showed tonight. The pasta was under salted, and had multiple types of pastas in one dish (it was obviously cooked all in one batch). The chicken was bland, and the sauce tasted as if it's from a jar. The only reason I give this place two stars is because of the affordability, most particularly of the wine, however you get what you pay for. This little restaurant is a gem! We have driven by it many times and only recently stopped. Our meals were delicious. We went for dinner again last night, 3 of us, and we could not have been more satisfied with our dinner experience! Mom had shrimp and lobster linguini- it was a little spicy but delicious. Hubs had veal Marsala....omg.....I know what I am ordering next time. The sauce is so good! I had spaghetti and meatballs. It comes with 3 huge meatballs- meatballs like any Italian grandma makes. All meals were generously portioned and we all took home boxed leftovers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, the service was great and we will most definitely return. read more

Quirky restaurant. Like the small Italian restaurant experience however, not very customer centric. Group of 8 and they could only submit orders for 4 people at a time to the kitchen. One person ordered the Linguini Fra Diavlo and there were no shrimp in it. Oops! When asked if they could substitute pasta for the potato base of another dish, there was an immediate "no". Again, Chef should have some flexibility for customer tastes and preference. Food was served at good (proper) temperature but, not the most flavorful. I can say having come to St Augustine regularly for 35 years that restaurant is not in my top 3 Italian restaurants around the area. read more

I have eaten at La Strada many times over the years. The food is always delicious and service also good. My husband and I had 6:30 reservations on a Monday night. We were seated right away, given menus and a drink and that was the last we saw of either server. We sat for over 30 minutes with no one coming near our table. The servers walked past us many times but never looked our way. When I finally got to speak to one she asked if I wanted the check. When I told her we hadn't ordered there was no apology, just a justification that the chef had asked them to stop taking orders. When the other server came over, asked if we were ready to order I replied that we had been ready. To that again there was no apology. In fact I was given a lecture about how short staffed they were and if I didn't like it we could leave. My family has owned an Italian restaurant for 70 years. I know every part of the business. And what I know for sure is you never treat a customer in that manner. I will not be back read more

I've ordered the grouper with pasta... if I had gone fishing and not washed the fish and just put on a plate, it would probably taste the same... Awful flavor, extremely fishy taste. The pasta sauce and the pasta itself, horrendous! Made the order through DoorDash and gave special instructions to add shrimp, they charged me extra for the shrimp as they should, that got charged immediately on my credit card, guess what? I will let you read the note they sent. Also, they didn't have the mousse which is okay but keep the money and not send another dessert, simply kept the money lol One star because their garlic bread was pretty good and obviously the only thing I ate to avoid a belly issue (when I tell you my daughter and I took a bite and refused to eat bc of the smell... This is our 3 rd trip to La Strada so you know we enjoyed our previous meals enough to go back. Sadly, this was not as good an experience as the previous. Our party of 4 had a very early res. So early in fact there were about 3 other tables in the restaurant. Now I know the 2 ladies working the entire room work hard but La Strada really needs a bus boy because after we ate our salads and needed refills on drinks ( salads took a very long time to arrive) the dirty plates sat on our table as the waitress brought our entrees. There was no room so we had to gather the dirty plates to make room for our main meal. If I'm going out to dinner I do not want to clear my own table. This really irked me. All of our entrees were very good & their portions are generous. One of my dining partners had to wait quite a while for her potatoes that were supposed to come with her meal & this was annoying as well. I felt the service was really lacking this time and it wasn't as busy as the last few xs I was there. Maybe when the restaurant is busier these ladies buzz around more. I still recommend this place as the food is very good and reasonable so I'm able to overlook the service and hope it was just an off night. read more

The food was good and not so good. I had the veal francaise and it was delightful. My wife had the manicotti and it was dismal. I guess there were three stuffed pasta tubes on the dish covered in a forgettable sauce. You couldn't distinguish the pasta tubes as everything was mashed together. It was tasteless and disappointing. The restaurant is small and nicely appointed. They appear to be more interested in upcharging for extra salad dressing than serving an exemplary meal. read more

And this place will be a regular spot for us now! We went on Sunday Evening and had such a nice time enjoying each others company/the restaurant old Italian style design/the service but most important-THE FOOD! Yum with a capital Y! This restaurants chefs knows how to cook and serve amazing divine dishes! The Eggplant Burrata Appetizer... GET IT.. don't say NO.. you will 100% regret your decision! Absolutely delicious with fried thin slices of eggplant topped with Burrata cheese pesto their homemade marinara! For our main meals-we got Veal Parmigiana, Rigatoni alla Vodka(with chicken) and the stuffed Pork Chop with Prosciutto and a creamy risotto topped with a Marsala wine sauce! All fantastic! Seems their host has issues with the way people look. I'm 6'1" tall with both arms sleeves in tattoos. When I walked in I distinctly saw two open tables. The host looked at me (I had a sleeveless-shirt on) and he told me I could sit at the outside table. So I accept his offer. Now, I ordered a "cup" of onion soup. It was brought out and I was told there was only one size...bowl!Yet the bowl was cup sized (see pic). I've had better onion soup at sandwich shops! Next I ordered meatballs and spaghetti and when I asked for bread I was told it was an extra charge. Who serves/eats meatballs and spaghetti without bread! UGH! The meatballs were descent and the red sauce was fair at best. Bottom line is I should have stayed home and ate leftover pizza. read more

Last night I ordered a steak at La Strada. We never received our salads before our food arrived. We would have never recieved them at all if I hadn't said something. The steak was completely bland, tasteless and was just drowned in butter to the point it was swimming in grease. The garlic potatoes were not fresh, the consistency was awful and inedible. I suspect they were made from frozen. When the waiter came over and asked if the food was OK I told him the problem with the food. HE apologized and said he would take it away. Everything was fine until I heard the chef who was in the kitchen say - "This is an Italian restaurant, we are not a steakhouse, what do they expect." I will tell you what I expected. I expected that if steak was offered on the menu that they knew how to season and cook it. Pretry straightforward. Why would you offer any items on your menu if you knowingly don't know how to prepare it? Apparently this is too much to ask at this "Italian" restaurant. Due to the poor service, 45 minute cook time, forgotten and poorly prepared food I would NEVER recommend this restaurant. read more

We've been to LaStrada 3 times in the last two months. The first two were very good, but tonight was an absolute disappointment. While I realize an employee walked out during the restaurant being completely full, our meals should not have been compromised. There was zero Marsala taste to them. Absolutely horrible! No one checked to make sure we needed refills or why we hadn't finished our meals. I'm not sure what's going on here, but another review is very comparable. They obviously are having issues, recently, and I'm not sure we'll be back for awhile. read more
