So glad we stumbled upon this pizza place tucked in the corner of the plaza. Apparently they took over from the previous owners, remodeled, and just reopened in February. We don't live in St Augustine but we'll definitely come back to this place whenever we're out here for the beach. Margarita pizza was light and delicious with a crisp crust. The meatballs app was juicy and the sauce was light. Sooo good. My husband doesn't even really like meatballs and he ate them. The food was awful and I have absolutely no vendettas towards the owners or staff. This place claims to be authentic Italian but at best, they are so below sub par, that I need to warn the owners and the patrons too. To the owners, why don't you get an Italian cook book or a chef that knows and understands what it takes to make Italian dishes. I ordered the spaghetti white clam dinner...I had to search the dish for the clams even though they did garnish with THE SMALLEST clams in shells, but there still were no clams to speak of in my plate $20. The absolute worst was that that plate had zero taste, it was so bad that I had to open the grated cheese container and put the entire contents into my plate and it STILL HAD NO FLAVOR! They claim to come from North New Jersey. I had lived in New Jersey for 30 years and New York combined and I am 3rd generation Italian, I know my heritage dishes. My companions had complaints too, one had the broccoli rabe with sausage and the sausage was burned so badly. My husband had the chicken parm, it was ok but he asked for more sauce, they brought what was no more than a 1/4 cup, the waitress never informed us that there would be a charge of $1.40!!! The receipt to justify their desperation lists it as "1 LARGE - Extra Marinara. A bottle of house wine with a twist top which we opened ourselves, $42 and it wasn't even good. My other companion, was up all night with a stomach ache after consuming their eggplant rollatini! The owner boasts about the food, she has got to be kidding! The only patrons of this establishment are most likely people that do not care or know what authentic Italian food really tastes like. As we recently moved here after many years, my search has ended for a pizza place equaling back north. I stopped the other day on a whim to try one plain slice on the takeout side and spoke with a young and very nice family member, tried the slice and came back the next day with my wife to dine in the restaurant. He seen us, came out and promptly greeted us, love the GREAT attitude. Anyway we shared a Chicken Marsala dinner which was outstanding and best I've ever had. Also shared a Margherita Pizza which was great. The crust and sauce often make the pizza and wow they did as well as the cheese and basil. I just had 2 leftover slices this morning. Atmospheric, service were very good and prices very reasonable. What made us even happier is we understand they're opening a smaller place over at St Augustine Beach which is very close to us. Waited forever for our drinks, I ordered a melbac wine and she brought me a beer. So slow, no urgency at all. When she brought the bill the beer was still on the bill. We had a pizza, and were able to customize it with 1/2 of one kind and 1/2 of another kind. The waitress, who's name started with a J, was absolutely fabulous and extremely courteous. We're making the rounds to find the best pizza in St Augustine and Romano's Pizza and Restaurant was next on our list. We only tried the pizza and the stromboli and antipasto for take away, not the restaurant, in this review. Overall we enjoyed the meal. I thought the Grandma pizza knocked it out of the park, loved it. Crust was fairly crisp but the cheese, sauce, and spices were totally on point. My daughter loved the pepperoni stromboli, thought it was the best one she'd ever had. The antipasto was very good, but we've had better and that may just come down to personal taste. The house dressing was excellent. Surprisingly, our son just didn't care for the sausage and pepperoni pizza. I did not try it myself but he wouldn't finish it, and he loves pizza. I wish I had a better explanation other than he's a typical moody thirteen year old boy. It did look good. Staff were very friendly on the phone and at pickup. Here's a tip - they will ask you if you are calling their specific location because there is another pizzeria with the same or similar name in the region, and people have mixed them up resulting in orders that were not picked up. It's not a big deal and they only do it with new customers (they must save your info in their system for future calls) so just be ready for it. Tip # 2 - The restaurant is on the right, but the pizzeria is on the left. Go into the door in the far left. In between the two entrances is another door with a sign pointing to the right, where the restaurant is. But the restaurant doesn't open until evening so the door will be locked if you are there earlier in the day for pizza. Head left, and you'll quickly see the entrance. We would order again for the Grandma and stromboli, and I'd like to try the Italian food in the restaurant, so we'll likely be back. read more

We've been to Romanos before and I remember not being too impressed, but we tried it again because we wanted to give it another shot and I was craving some Alfredo. I was with my husband and 8 year old. My daughter wanted Alfredo and I was told they couldn't make it in a kid size (pretty much every restaurant I've been too will make it) she said we could get a small which was $14. I'm not paying $14 for my 8 year olds meal. So I got a large for us to share. My husband got a calzone and I will say it was one of the better if not best calzone I've ever had. Our waitress was okay. There was only two other tables she was serving in the whole restaurant and I felt like they got a lot of visits back to the table and she barely waited on us. A man who I'm assuming was the owner talked to the other tables and asked how they were doing, but ignored our table. Not sure if the others were just regulars, but it felt like we were ignored. Their fried ravioli as an appetizer was mediocre along with the Alfredo which I probably could've made better at home. If you're going here stick to pizza and calzones and take out is probably best. read more

I would have given 5 stars if I could have found the cheese on my Supreme pizza. GrubHub delivered it hot and so far the most traditional flavorful pizza we've found in St Auggie. The crust was the desired crisp/chewy we love. Toppings and sauce delicious. Threw in an order of fried ravioli. Garlicky and almost crisp with a rich tomato dipping sauce. Hubby's pepperoni and anchovy was really tasty but the toppings were sparse. We feel that a small 12" pizza for almost $20 each could have some decently generous toppings. We have always driven a half hour in order to get Romanos food. There are plenty of Italian restaurants closer by but Romanos was worth the drive. Their pizza was excellent, New York style. Last night we placed an order for pick up. I did not look inside the box before paying. When we got home and open the box we were very surprised. The pizza was flat, thin, one slice had no cheese and no toppings. We called the restaurant and explained to the woman that perhaps she gave us the wrong box. She said "that is hand tossed, that's right." I messengered Romanos last night and have received no answer. I will be calling them today to see if I could get a hold of the owner. I've always loved Romano's pizza. My friend and her parents are from New Jersey so they are very particular about their pizza. They LOVE Romano's and order all the time. So, I knew their pizza was good, but I had never dined in and had any other meal with them. Boy was I missing out. I took my mother here for dinner yesterday. We sat in a comfortable booth and were greeted by our wonderful waitress Sheila--warm bread in hand by the way. The bread was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dipping sauce. So good! I ordered the Alfredo and my mother had the Marsala. Both were exquisite. The Alfredo was so creamy and fresh and the chicken Marsala so tasty! Such big portions that we both had leftovers for lunch/dinner today. I knew I had to try their cannolis. Gosh they were so good. My mom had the bananas foster cheesecake with a Creme Brûlée top. She said it was amazing! I'll be dreaming about this place until the next visit. The service was wonderful, the food was to die for, and the menu was great for any diet. What a nightmare! We went to another restaurant first but the wait was a bit too long so we ended up here. Definitely a mistake! Firstly, the A/C did not work very well. We asked the waitress if it could be adjusted a bit and she said "this is it" and told us that it just doesn't work as good as it used to. We ordered drinks and appetizers and were served bread that was cold and although we prefer our bread warm we understand that some places don't do that. We had the meatballs and the calamari for apps. The meatballs were mushy and the calamari was not crispy enough but we were trying to be patient and give them a chance. We ordered chicken parm, veal franchese chicken franchese and shrimp parm. The shrimp was practically raw, the veal and chicken seemed to have been deep fried and was extremely crispy and the veal was curled up. The chicken parm was good but we sent the other 3 dishes back. The waitress was extremely sweet and professional and apologetic and we knew it was not her fault. So we re-ordered and a few moments later the chef/owner stormed out of the kitchen and out the back and he was obviously angry and throwing a temper tantrum like a child. The waitress came over and told us that he refused to make the dishes over as "they will be the same as the first time". Funny thing was that we had a ordered different menu items the second time so that made no sense but what really was disappointing was his attitude! So we decided to pay for what we had and leave. Of course they removed the 3 dishes from the bill but did not comp anything. The waitress said she hoped we would give them another try and to be honest if they had done the right thing we may have given them another try but the fact that the chef/owner acted like a spoiled child and no one made any attempt to apologize (other than the waitress) we will never go anywhere near this restaurant ever again!
