I've been coming into Pittsburgh every now and then for almost 50 years. I first ate at Vincent's Pizza Park on Ardmore in the 1970s. The first time I tasted this unique pizza with unique crust, sauce, pepperoni and sausage I was hooked. The mushrooms, onions and peppers are cut properly and flavor the supreme pizza perfectly. The large pie probably outweighs the competitors pies three-fold. One or two cuts is more than enough for a meal, making the beautiful huge pizza a great value. Sadly, Vinnie passed away years ago, but, credit the family with keeping things the way Vinnie would want. Well done. Can't wait to get back to have another. My first time having Vincent's pizza! When I picked it up, took it home, and opened it, I felt like I was unwrapping a present. I got a small pizza and it was HUGE! Enough to feed 3 people! I was always wary of Vincent's because I was told the grease was outrageous, and honestly, it was greasy but not nearly as bad as I was "preparing" for. The toppings were generous and the pizza was delicious! I ordered takeout (they are cash only - FYI) and it was ready in about 20 minutes. I did eat it a little later after it had cooled and I think that was the right move because I was able to eat it just fine with a fork and knife. Now that I know what I was missing I will definitely be back soon! read more

I usually love the unique flavor of the pizza here, and think the dough is exceptional. But not this last time. The crust was tough and hard and I had the wait staff recut the pie because the slices weren't separated. I'm not sure if it was a matter of over-baking or if the restaurant is using different ingredients to manage costs. It'll be a while before I return. read more

By far the best pizza I have ever had. Super cheesy, with a tomato sauce that compliments the whole package. This is pure Italian soul food. It will fill you up for both your earthly life and beyond. Warning a small is really a medium, don't go in thinking you are getting regular pizza joint sizes. You will be fed. The service is Pittsburgh to say the least. It's the experience of it all. Searched for a pizza place between work and my new home on moving day & found Vincent's, which was founded in 1953! What a delicious pizza and iconic Pittsburgh Pizza place. Service was quick and I was surprised to learn the pizza is served on a piece of cardboard which is wrapped in paper and stapled closed. Pizza was delicious and what a treat after moving! I have been coming here for years, 56 years! When I come back in town, I always try to stop in! Still family owned and it shows! We showed up on Sunday Afternoon at 3:30, they open at 4. When 4 rolled around the line was 15 deep! Ok, that will tell you how good this place is... I met a guy there who flew his plane from DC to Pittsburgh that afternoon to pick up a couple pizza's because his wife wanted Vincent's for dinner that night!!! Wow, that's service!!! We flew in as well but we stayed a few days! On to the food. I'm a Coke fan so I had to settle for a Pepsi. That's fine, it's the Pizza I'm waiting for. My wife ordered a salad, which looked good and fresh. We ordered a Medium Sausage, Pepperoni, Mushroom and Banana Peppers! As I'm sipping my Pepsi they bring us the Master Piece! Oh.... So good! The Flavor the crust...amazing! We ended up taking several slices back home on our plane (Southwest). Our waitress was amazing! She was dressed up in Steeler gear! She was engaging, happy, sweet... Haven't been in years since moving from the south hills area but pizza passport stop 17 brought me back in. Staff from counter service to those making the pies were super friendly. Very old school feel and has its own personality the second you come in. The greasy cardboard with staples paper wrap is fun. It's just a big bold and nicely flavored pie. I'm not sure, but I may have found the worst pizza on the face of the earth. I don't care how many reviews this place gets if you go to that other big review site you can start reading and see what I'm talking about. As soon as you walk in, you will smell a funky sulfur like odor. That should have been my first warning, but I thought they just finished cleaning something. Our waitress was wonderful and polite. Other than that, the experience plummeted downhill. The pizza sizes are small, medium, and extra large. They used the word Neapolitan to describe them. Clearly they have no idea what that means. The dough is very thick and it is loaded with cheese. I asked for pepperoni and had no idea it would be saturated and chopped up pieces of pepperoni. The amount of grease on this pizza was absolutely horrible. The pepperoni tasted very odd and strange. That leads me to believe the ingredient quality is poor at best. It was extremely low quality. I'm not pulling any punches here. I'm trying to warn you away and save your money. The two pizza makers were covered in flour, head to toe. They were sweaty and dirty looking . I watched one of them, carry a large tray of eight dough balls into the room his entire belly laid on top of four of them as he held it up against his body, caring it. The thoughts of his sweaty shirt lying on top of that dough made me queasy. I did not bring that to my wife's attention and tried to erase it from my memory. When the pizza came out, it just look like something a six-year-old kid would make it home as an experiment. The dough pulls right out from under the topping. After eating one slice, I looked at my wife and said I'm done. She agreed and we took the rest to go so as not to be rude. We thought about giving it away to someone and then chose to just throw it in the trash. That's really all I can say. The restaurant itself looks outdated and kind of dingy. It may have had some kind of history 30 or 40 years ago but that's long gone. Just don't be fooled by the 4.5 plus rating you will see on other food site reviews. read more

I first visited Vincent's Pizza Park way back in the late 1970's with Vinnie himself up front making the pizzas with a light flour coating over himself. I haven't been there in a while, so I thought I'd give it a try again. Ugh. I was disappointed. The dough wasn't cooked all the way through on the underside though it looked cooked on top. The crust was very bland, like someone forgot to add a little salt. The sausage wasn't the same as they had in the past, it was also blander. Ambience? None. It has kind of a creepy vibe, partly because it was almost empty. Back in the day Vincent's was a hopping place, usually full. The ceiling in back used to look like a fire hazard, a dusty wooden mesh with plastic grapes and stuff hanging from it but it had a homey feel like you were in Vincent's basement. That's all gone, so is the big central bar in back, now there's a minimal bar against the back wall with seats facing the wall and no bartender; it didn't look at all inviting. Pittsburgh has a lot more options for pizza these days than it did in the 70's and 80's some of which I think are better than the old Vinnie pie, but if you're looking for the old Vinnie pie, I'm afraid it is no longer served at Vincent's. There are a number of places that have woodfired ovens that make tasty artisanal pizzas, we have Detroit style pizza now, and NY style. For just a slice, I like Badamo's, Giorgio's Place, and Fiori's, but for something closer to the old Vinnie Pie, I think Shelly Pie is a better choice at least based on my recent experiences at both. read more

It's been nearly a year since my last visit but as I've stated before Vincent's was a childhood favorite of mine. We called our order in at 4:25pm and are given a 45 minute wait for pickup. 5:10pm our pizza is ready...WAIT! It's a blackened pizza, burnt to a crisp. Luckily we saw what was being wrapped up and could have them remake the pie. 5:25pm pizza 2 comes home with us in our pizza bag. Yes, we love pizza that much, we have a real pizza bag. ‍ We ordered a medium pepperoni and sausage which we ate less than half of. The crust was thick and bottom served extremely well done (burnt). Luck of the draw; sometimes you get pepperoni slices other times shredded leftovers. The pepperoni still tasted good but doesn't stay on the pizza as nice. read more

Really great pizza! This is one of my boyfriend's favorite pizza shops and he put me on. It's super large pizzas with generous toppings, great sausage, and great pizza crust. I'm a person who loves pizza crust and they have a good doughey crust that is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. We have been coming here 30+ years. Actually my spouse has been coming here 45+ years because I grew up out of town. So last night we walked in about 8:30 and ordered. It's been possibly a decade plus since we had last visited... It was AMAZING to witness! Walking around after ordering and looking at the photos on the walls. One other couple were dining and their pie looked simply delicious and monsterous in size! As a few pizzas emerged ahead of ours I snapped pictures (with permission given). Beautiful and just incredible to gaze upon! Simply "WoW". So ours came back ... We brought it back to our hotel. Our 2 daughters had never had Vincent's and they were supposed, impressed and delighted all at once! One proclaimed "it's so big and heavy"... There's just place else that compares. Yes, it's charming to have stapled papers on a sheet of cardboard as packaging instead of a pizza box. I'd say this multi-layered wax paper enclosure is super effective and super charming all at once. The staff were way super friendly ... Pleasant and far beyond the norm as just nice, helpful and genuinely happy. So it seems at least without precondition or reservation. You can go anywhere else and the staff are not 5% as nice at the best competitors! The folks here we're THAT incredible! So... Criticisms: "the hours 'open' were restrictive" ... The ... Hmmm.... I can't think of anything else to gripe about? Seriously, I can't. Anyways... It's like going back in a time machine for my spouse and I. So I'll start by saying this place is cash only! This is very important information for someone like myself who hardly ever carries cash. However, with that being said... it's worth the trip to the ATM to get some cash out. No ATM on the way? It's all good, they have an ATM machine on site. Okay, so let's talk overall experience! My fiancé came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. The parking situation is a little tight by the restaurant, but we were able to find a spot. The restaurant itself is very clean and definitely had a homestyle Italian restaurant vibe to it. The building doesn't look super big on the outside, but there is a lot of seating and space inside. Our waitress came over to us quickly and took our drink orders. She was very upfront with us and said that it would be about a 45 min wait for pizza because they were unexpectedly slammed on this day. She suggested we order a salad in the mean time, which we did. The salad was good- your basic house salad with the regular toppings. The salad comes with or without cheese. We asked for our cheese on the side and she just brought out a big ol' bowl of cheese- which I was not mad at! Lol Throughout our wait for pizza, our waitress came over regularly to check up on us. Finally, it was time for our pizza. Omgosh, this pizza was something else. They don't make their pizzas into a precise circle so every pie has a slightly different shape, which I thought was cool. But my oh my, they load on the cheese, toppings, and grease. The crust was thick enough to handle all of that goodness though. In no other circumstance would I advise you to eat pizza with a knife and fork, but I definitely needed to with that pizza. This pizza was quite literally a little slice of heaven and the perfect cheat meal! We only tackled about half of our pizza so we took the rest to go. Instead of regular pizza boxes, the place the pizza on a slab of thick and sturdy cardboard and cover it with butcher paper. You need to go to Vincent's Pizza Park! If you like quantity and quality, Vincent's Pizza Park will satisfy you! I am not from the area, but a friend recommended that I eat here if I love pizza. And of course I love pizza! Our waitress was so kind and patient with us as we tried to figure out the wants and needs of 9 people (mostly kids!). Eventually our order got submitted. While waiting, I took my kids to go watch the pizza get made. What a sight to see! The humongous handfuls of cheese and toppings was astounding to watch. And when the pizza came out, what a sight to see. Huge bubbling cheese, lots of toppings! And of course it was all delicious! Come here for good, mom and pop pizza. First of all, they managed to both burn and somewhat drench the bottom of the pizza at the same time? I've never seen that before. Not sure how, but perhaps it was from being super generous with the fresh toppings? Although I appreciated all the the extra toppings, the pizza crust ended up being both mushy and burnt and as a result we decided to put it in the toaster oven to crisp up a bit more. Still edible - and I did like the flavor of the cheese, peppers and Canadian bacon - kind of reminded me of a ham and cheese calzone. I do wish they invested in pizza boxes instead of wrapping up this pizza using an endless amount of paper and staples. It is very difficult to unwrap the pizza from multiple layers of paper and you have to carefully remove all the little staples or else they could easily hurt someone. Also the oil from the pizza leaks through the paper leaving a potential mess to clean up. It would also save the employees a lot of hassle and time if they just invested money into pizza boxes. Something else I found somewhat unprofessional was the fact that they didn't let us enter under their stated (and very limited hours) from 4 pm - 10 or 11 pm Wednesday - Sunday. Myself and someone else, who arrived at exactly 4 pm, ended up waiting outside for 10-15 minutes before they finally opened their doors around 4:15 pm. If you are going to advertise that you are open during a certain time you should be open at that time, especially if it is as late as 4pm that you open. Also many of the employees were frantic about the fact that their cash register had no actual change in it (this place is cash only) which means you would have had to provide exact change as a customer. The manager was not there yet and the employees heroically had to use their own money to put in the register to make change - this made me feel bad for them and feel that the manager is not organized. It hurts me to say this but it feels like the person running this place doesn't want to run a pizza place. I just wish someone who was passionate about pizza and wanted to be there was in charge. It sounds from the previous reviews that this use to be an awesome place. read more

Amazingly delicious pizza. We live on the other side of the city and made the trek through the tunnels just for Vincent's delicious greasy pizza. The crust is incredible. It has such a nice flavor. The sauce is good- even for someone that doesn't love red sauce. The cheese is exceptionally flavorful and extra tangy. I enjoyed eating it by itself with a fork. I sprinkled a little bit of the garlic salt on top and it was fabulous. I got a side of ranch for dipping and didn't even need it. This pizza is just so special. If it wasn't for the almost two hour wait for a medium cheese pizza, I would be giving Vincents a full five stars. We went early and arrived just a few minutes after they opened. We are unsure if it was because of the many called in take out orders, or our server (he was very nice) mentioned something about "screwing up our order" in his notebook, but two hours for a medium pizza while sitting in the restaurant is a little excessive. We noticed people that arrived a long time after us got their pizza before us. It was a Bummer. However, The pizza was worth the wait and we hope to go back for a better experience in the future. If we have a better visit next visit I will gladly update my review to 5 stars. read more
