I've been for fancy date nights and recently went to enjoy their new happy hour. They have some great prices on tap beers and house cocktails. I went with 2 girlfriends on Friday for happy hour (2:02-6:00 bar side only) we had the garlic parm fries, pork belly, house made chips and chicken bites. All of it was amazing. Piping hot and fresh. The chips were crisp and cooked perfectly, chicken was tender and flavorful, the garlic fries they were some of the best. It wasn't just a heap of oil/butter garlic. Even the bottom fries were crisp not soaked in oils. Our server Conner was impeccable. He was busy yet attentive to us and others. This was by far the worst dining experience I've had in redding. Waited over 30 min to get some bred with some dipping oil stuff that tasted like it should be on some fish and over an hour to even get an appetizer after ours being taken to the wrong table and was sitting there for 6-7 minutes. Before anybody noticed to be taken into the Kitchen by our waitress and then brought back out to our table by a different waitress or helper 30 seconds later. When asked if that was the same food we were told they weren't sure!?! How are you not sure?? Then our waitress came out and asked if we would like them re fired and explained that they supposably had 4 of those ready to go and thats why they had came back out so fast. Which I doubt since the person who brought them out couldn't even bring themselves to set them on the table. Then our waitress said they would be comped but then only brought of them out which we tried and didn't eat because it was not good at all then the entree was very underwhelming and the portions were very sparse considering its $35 for a piece of chicken some baby potatoes and a glorified coleslaw. And then to top it off the flourless chocolate cake was horrible. Never got a chance to even try the calamari We ordered. You will get better service from the local YMCA than from this place Save your money and go anywhere else in town. Flavorless food small portions bad dessert and you are waiting so long for all of it that the ice in your water will melt and it will begin to get warm. Wish I could just blame the waitress but the whole experience was pretty dreadful. Every thing was wonderful about our dinner here! We had originally booked an outdoor table, but it was a very hot evening, and the hostess asked if we would prefer to sit inside, which we did. The change was quickly made, and we were seated at a lovely booth that still had a nice view. Service was great, food was delicious and I can't wait to go back to try more menu items. I took my wife to have our anniversary dinner April 5. I was extremely disappointed with the food I had a New York steak it was supposed to be medium rare but it was more like medium on top of mashed potatoes it tasted so salty I couldn't eat them with four pieces of chard asparagus. My wife had the halibut that was placed on top of the same mashed potatoes the hell of it did taste better than the New York steak but the mashed potatoes were disgusting! We also had a taco appetizer which I have to say was prepared very well along with blackberry crispDessert which was good as well. As far as the service our waitress was very un attentive and seem to ignore us while others were being served that actually arrived after us. Update: Hi Patrick the GM. Neither of us ordered the halibut or the tapenade. I'm happy you make your sauces in house. However you don't make the cheesecake in house. Further the "seasonal veg" was not in season or edible. Lastly, the fact that the cherry reduction is made in house doesn't do anything but disappoint me since there wasn't enough on the plate to even taste, especially since the blue cheese overpowered any other flavor that might have been pleasant. Oh and my partners burger was way over cooked and you served us frozen fries Meh. Patrick our server was delightful. The calamari appetizers was on point too. My partner ordered the view 202 burger cooked medium. It came well done. The fries are frozen string fries which is hugely disappointing considering the price of the burger and the restaurants reputation. I had the deconstructed wellington. It was cooked fine. The pastry "cap" was a waste of effort. There wasn't enough of the cherry reduction and the blue cheese over powered any subtle flavors that might have been in the duxelle. My side of seasonal vegetables were baby carrots...not in season. I expected Squash at least. But the carrots were raw, not al dente, RAW. I could barely cut them with a steak knife. We were in for lunch recently and sat in Peter's section - spectacular service! Peter brought us bread and olive oil without us ever having to ask and even brought a refill of each before our meals arrived. Come on, really? This restaurant has a spectacular view. It's a wonderful setting to have dinner. Now if the dinner was just worth driving up there. I've been there several times the last few very disappointing. On this beautiful evening we had halibut, calamari, And a wedge salad. The calamari was pretty good, actually just OK. At least it wasn't burned. The hell of it was so tough. It was inedible. My wedge salad came out two hearts of romaine with feta cheese and a sweet vinaigrette. That's a lovely salad, but certainly not a classic wedge.The bar has always is perfect. The Wayte staff was wonderful, but the food was bad. At least they credited the expensive wedge salad. The restaurant was disappointing, they have a beautiful fountain upfront that was off in full of garbage. I can't imagine a reason to go back there. The dessert was good. read more

This being our first time visiting this restaurant, we were excited for the experience. I made a reservation for seven pm and arrived at 7 pm, I was asked to wait for a few minutes, I looked around the restaurant and it wasn't busy ( many empty tables) , so why do we have to wait? We went to the bar and ordered two old fashioned, which were made correctly. Then we got seated at a small two person table next to the window with people directly on the other side, we were reviewing the menu and the couple at the table behind us were dropping the f bomb like it was going out of style and talking about sexual activity for jewelry, at this point I politely went to the hostess and explained the situation and she said that she would tell her manager. I returned to my table, and shortly thereafter the manager came and moved us to a different table, which was nicer. I was confused by the concrete floor, no carpet? The acoustics are quite loud and contrasted with the music. After a one hour wait for dinner, my filet mignon was great and my wife's prime rib was also great, but the portions are pretty small for $50 a plate. After our meal and a second cocktail, we decided it was time to depart, we left our table at waited at the bar for our car to arrive, while we waited I asked for two shots of 1492 whiskey, they didn't have any, so the bartender suggested buffalo trace and I agreed then he grabbed two cocktail glasses and proceeded to make a 12 count pour in both glasses, when I asked him about the heavy pour, he said it was okay and not to worry about it. As I was preparing to leave I needed to use the restroom, which was clean and stocked. I did want to mention that the general manager, Joe came to our table and apologized for the long wait for the food and having to experience being moved to another table. So overall we were not impressed, and didn't feel like it was worth the money or experience. read more

Wow. Where to start. 1. There are cats literally walking all over patio. They crawl all over your legs and under your table while you're eating. 2. We ordered their steak which was $55 and requested medium rare. Both of our steaks came out white in the middle. Not only was it well done, it was over well done! Their only means of compensation, for that was to make another terrible steak and then give us a piece of pie. Essentially, we still paid full price for the terribly over cooked steaks. 3. The bottle of wine that we purchased was $65 for a $20 bottle of Cabernet. Not only was it extremely overpriced, but came out extremely warm. The wine tasted like it had been sitting in the back of somebody's car for a week. 4. Not that it was their fault, but during our dinner, a meth lab below the restaurant exploded and then set the forest on fire. Food was ok, service was ok. Except for the prime rib... we ordered it medium rare. It comes out well done. I mean, it's not even close, it's grey and tough. Waiter is apologetic. Then a different waiter comes out and apologizes saying that the one they have to replace it is a medium/medium well...(I'm assuming the original waiter was too embarrassed to let us know that they didn't have any medium rares). What makes me really mad is that they KNEW the prime rib was not even close to medium rare. Yet, they STILL tried to serve it. Someone in the kitchen KNEW that was well done and said... screw them, serve it to them anyways and see if they notice. Someone KNEW there were no more medium rare prime ribs and decided not to tell us. When you run out of an item ("86"), especially an entree, you tell the customer ASAP so that they can change their order if they want. Since we were there on our anniversary (they knew that too) and we had a baby sitter, and they didn't say jack until they served it to us, we didn't have time to change the order. What were you thinking, View 202? Do you think it's ok to knowingly serve a blatantly over cooked steak hoping the customer won't notice? That's B/S and you should be embarrassed. My husband and I went here for date night a couple nights ago, despite the 3 1/2 star review and I'm so glad we did! We sat in the bar, my Guava Mint Mule cocktail was absolutely perfect! We shared the calamari, Thai Crunch Salad & a pizza with the cauliflower crust (that our bartender recommended) the food was delicious! We will definitely be going back, maybe when it's not so hot, so we can enjoy that outside seating! I only gave a 4 star instead of a 5 because our table was very sticky!! We would have moved tables, but I checked the others & they were just as sticky! Maybe they should get a deep clean or changed out. Good spot to try if you haven't yet. read more

Most delicious anniversary dinner with the most picturesque view of the river! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner although we immediately recognized we were a little dressed down for the environment. The service was slow to be completely honest however we enjoyed more time cuddling and kissing in our private "love booth." Everything was delicious, the prices were excellent and each day of the week they have specials. The special offered to us came with free beer with our wings appetizer however, we kindly declined as we do not drink alcohol. We had to try nearly every appetizer, they were all so delicious but the show stopped was absolutely the apricot Brie pizza! Apricot Jam Sauce Base, Brie Cheese, Fresh Mozzarella, Blue Cheese, Pomegranate Seeds, Salami and Fresh kale all come together in a divine mouthwatering experience! Lovely place with delicious food! Tracy was outstanding in her knowledge of the menu, and the wine selection. The hubs had the weekends special *Smoked* Prime Rib, and I had the Salmon. People, that prime rib was MELT IN YOUR MOUTH! It was scrumptious! He also had Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes, which I of course, had to steal a few bites of. My blackened salmon was DELICIOUS! It can on top of a bed of spinach and mushroom risotto. We enjoyed a Ceviche appetizer, and a bottle of the signature Rosé wine (Elouan). We spent around $127 before tip, and dined in luxury on the patio gazing at each other (of course) and the spectacular views of the Sacramento River! We will be back. Ask for Tracy if you can. I want to give this place a 3.5 star rating. The food is pretty good. Drinks are astronomically priced- sorry, we don't live in New York or LA. And I actually lived in LA for a few years and drinks there at decent restaurants weren't even as much as they are at View 202. There is no kids menu. Not sure if they're trying to discourage you from bringing kids?? But that's kind of silly since Redding is made up of pretty much all families. It would be smart for them to have a kids menu and also really easy. Also, there are NO CHANGING STATIONS/TABLES in the bathrooms for babies. How is this even a thing in 2022?! Come in, make it easier on parents and install a diaper changing station. It's not that hard. Lastly, the inside needs to be updated. Definitely stuck in the early 2000's. It is so outdated. It hurts my heart to sit in the restaurant. I will only sit on the patio. This restaurant could be SUCH A GEM if Redding! Especially, with the view and location. Instead it's staying stuck in the past and has no ambience. They should take a page out of Mosaic or Theory Coffee's book and spruce the place up! read more

The creme brûlée did not disappoint, it was delish and a nice size. The lavender martini was good, a little too strong for me (not complaining). The mushroom ravioli was yumilicious. While the wine and charcuterie were good, the wait was extremely long considering the restaurant was empty. The biggest disappointment was the hostess on a strange power trip. There were maybe eight people in the restaurant yet she asked us to wait while she determined if she could squeeze us in without a reservation. She then sat us at a table where the sun was in our eyes. We asked if we could switch to one of the numerous tables in the shade and were told no because of all the reservations they had. "Hold on to your silverware" after finishing an appetizer would be unremarkable at a pub, but was unexpected there. All four of our near dishes (3 steaks, 1 pork chop) were overcooked. What was ordered rare and med rare arrived medium to medium-well. The Caesar salad was terrible--I've had better at the airport. This has been a go to place for special occassions and just eating out. On arrival whomever was at the front couldnt find our reservation. The third person after disappearing. Finally returned and seated us Service has always been spotty, but food was good, until last night. Last night service was extremely slow. Drinks were for gotten and left sitting. The steak was tough, except for the very middle. Edges were not edible. The chicken was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. My comment about it being tough was ignored and knife was delivered several minutes later. When food was cold. The person who delivered sat it down turned and was gone. It was my husbands birthday dinner and the wine he ordered with dinner, arrived after he was done with dinner. They did comp his glass of wine and gave him desert. When paying the bill I again mentioned the chicken was very tough. I was told I should of said something they would of gotten me something else. Wait I did that by flagging someone down and still I was unable to eat my food until others were done and mine was cold. I took a deep breath and let it be, if not I have a temper which gets loud. It was my husbands birthday after all. Again service has never been spot on and is often extremely slow, but last night seemed worse. I'm so sad to write this review. We have always loved View 202, the ambiance inside and the view out on the patio is second to none! The food has always been good and we've never had bad service. But, last night (Oct 27, 2022), i took a friend and her girls, who had never been to View 202 before, and i have to say that the $$prices$$, portion sizes, and lack of presentation will keep us from coming back any time soon. We had salads and a small plate of salmon for $200+tip. I must say tho, that our Server Jacob and the others gave us AMAZING service! I know times are tough, prices are higher for everything. I know that the restaurants have to pass those costs on to us, but it's just too much for us. The higher costs of regular life, has made it impossible for us to afford such luxuries. The food at this place is very similar to Dennys Restaurant! Way too high of prices for the quality or quantity! Service is the worst ever! Stood at front 10 minutes before we saw anyone! Eventually Sat ourselves as did the couple behind us. Once seated we waited another 10 minutes for water! Then the very young inexperienced waitress asked if we needed more time! We let her know we had enough time to memorize the entire menu! She then became very Snotty and rude! I would never eat here again and that seems to be the word on the streets! My wife and I celebrated her birthday at View 202 and were very pleasantly surprised. The view is nice, which we knew in advance, but the food was amazing. The short rib gnocchi was absolutely fantastic. They also have this wonderful dipping sauce they serve with the bread that is worth the visit all by itself. I highly recommend View 202 For a romantic dinner or simply for the excellent food. Oh, and our server was amazing. Her name was Mariah. The atmosphere is modern and wonderful. Indoor and outdoor dining. Our server Lani was fantastic. She was kind and professional. I don't know if it's due to COVID-19 or what but I've taken notice that servers tend to be more attentive and wonderful these days. Rarely now do I come across a bad one, however some stand out above the rest. Lani is one of these in the upper percentile. Our food was prepared with the utmost care. I had the BBQ chicken brick oven pizza, it was clearly fresh and delicious, my GF had the blackened chicken sandwich which was tender, juicy, and had layers of flavor. For dessert she enjoyed the seasonal fruit creme brulee, I tried the coconut flan. I am not a fan of flan, I do try it from time to time, so when I tell you it was amazing, I mean amazing. Absolutely the best dessert I've had in years. On the one hand I wanted it to last forever on the other I couldn't stop taking bite after bite until it was gone. About the 10th awful experience: If I could bring my own bottle of wine and appetizers here... I would, just for the view! And the service seems to be bothered to help. We have tried this place over and over again with friends and family because the patio is the most impressive patio in town! BUT here's an example from today which is similar to at least TEN other experiences I've had here: I walk in with my friend and our kids... ask for a patio seating for 6 at 2:30pm on a Tues afternoon. (no reservation) It's a 30 Min wait, ok... -My Question: "Ok, may we sit in the bar and have a drink and appetizers with our kids while we wait?" -Hostess Answer: "Absolutely." We were never officially sat, she took my phone number, confirmed 30 min wait and walked away... Ok.......? So we sat ourselves in the bar area and with at least 4 employees working the bar area we were never greeted in the almost 10 minutes we sat there. I've experienced similar scenarios at this place... especially in the bar area. But today was different- it was my birthday, and I wanted to have a fun, "fancy" experience with my girls - (ages 7 &9) and it did not happen. Honestly, it pissed me off for the last time. PLEASE get your staff together. We love this location as a resident who lives down the street and loves supporting local.
