Well "Next Door" is pretty convenient and so we walked over from the hotel Cattleman's, I've been to a few over the years, reminds me of the Stuart Anderson's Black Angus I used to run. We were greeted by a basket of warmed french bread and a ramekin of butter Tyler brought to our table. He's pleasant man who wasn't new to food service, friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings. I thought he'd probably started back a bit in that kitchen. He was fun and did an excellent job for us and his other tables. We finally settled on our refreshments, M took a Cowboy Lemonade in a tall (pint) glass and I went with a strawberry iced tea. Mine was great just a hint of the strawberry and not sweet. M ordered a Rib Eye Taco's appetizer, I had my go to with my goto 1/2 baby back ribs. my sides were garlic french fries (2.99) baked beans are automatic and the "endless" salad with house-made blue cheese dressing. We shared the bowl of salad that you add a good amount of dressing and toss it till you're happy with the outcome. I forgot to say no croutons so I scooped those off. We shared the salad, probably a rule breaker but one bowl was enough. We waited awhile for the entree, I didn't watch the clock. We are on a holiday road trip to Oregon and needed a break. Dinner arrived brought out by another server or expediter, I like that practice. Thank you. 1/2 a rack there was a good layer of meat on the top of this rack, it was heavy and plenty enough for me. Fries a bit weathered but done right, could have been hotter. M re-prepared her taco's having me take the sliced jalapeños off the plate and she added some of my pork to her taco. I didn't clear my plate, I'd had my fill no need to overdoit. Dessert yes please, all are made in house a real treat. However; excess is not a sustainable diet plan... While traveling you never know what type of food quality or service you will get. But seeing a full parking lot is usually a good sign! Cattlemens reminded me a lot of Stuart Anderson's only better! Be sure to take your appetite because serving sizes are VERY generous! You get bread, salad and if you get their special deal for two you get an app & dessert too! Our waitress was SO ATTENTIVE! Unfortunately this was the worst experience I've had at a Cattlemen's location. I ordered the Caesar salad with a well done steak, but the steak came out looking closer to medium rare and the texture was extremely chewy. It felt like I was chewing on rubber. I tried giving it a chance, but after struggling through a few bites I couldn't eat it. The other steak also had quite a bit of fat, the vegetables were undercooked, and the beans tasted more canned than homemade. Service was okay. Jared took our order and brought out the food, but nothing really stood out during the experience. The ambiance itself wasn't too loud, although you'll definitely hear the birthday cheers if someone is celebrating. Overall the food quality just did not match the price point this visit, which was disappointing because I've had much better experiences at other Cattlemen's locations in the past. My mom and I were here visiting for an unfortunate situation and did not select the best hotel.. so after several visits to the hospital for my brother and a stressful situation with the hotel, this place was a walk away.. the atmosphere was just what we needed! Sat in the bar, Maxwell was our server and was amazing! The happy hour margarita drink- delicious! The bread and salad, so good! We did a package that included appetizer, choice of main dish and dessert. Filet mignon, delicious as well as the New York steak. The artichoke dip and apple pie dessert also very good! We had a great time here and our server Carol was exceptionally good to us. Negatives: -unfortunately there are no locations in SoCal......I would rather go here than an outback, black angus, or Logan's. Positives: -the porterhouse we got was very juicy, tender, and had just the right amount of fat. It was more than enough for us to share too. My wife loved the bread so much that we got two servings. The prime rib tacos were very tasty too. Very on point seasoning. Even the mash potatoes were delicious. -we got plenty of food that was more than enough even though we shared. -I love the ranch theme of the restaurant, the hospitality, and the overall size of the location. My family and I only chose this place because we were staying overnight from 3 hours away. Worst decision. First off, there was a BUG IN MY SALAD. And the steaks? The star of our dinner was suppose to be medium-rare. Not too much to ask for, right? Considering it's a STEAKHOUSE. Looking for a nice white Mountain restaurant to celebrate our 51st anniversary. Ambience was ok. Waitress was new and not familiar with drink or food menu (give you a bye on this one as that happens). Ordered steak and Chicken and both were overdone. (The steak was ordered medium and there wasn't a splash of pink in it). Very disappointing. Gave them AARP card for discount and was told they don't do Sr Discounts. Someone should tell the internet and AARP. Will not waste our time for a below average meal again, nor recommend Cattelmens to anyone. Very overrated! read more

I had never been to a Cattlemens before, and after a long day in the car and hiking around Lassen, a big juicy steak sounded perfect, especially with the prices here. I probably wouldn't have chosen to come here if it weren't for all the good reviews from some fellow Yelpers I know and trust, so shout out to them! We were blown away by how big the menu was, and even more so by how just about all of the steaks and entrees came with endless bread and salad, beans, and a side of choice. We doubled down on the bread and salad, the bread was hot and fresh and pretty delicious. The salad wasn't the best ever, but it was nice that you could pick different dressings. I tired the ranch and caesar, didn't like the ranch, but the caesar was good. I got the New York strip and my boyfriend Rustler Rib Eye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. We tried a bite of each others and both were good, but I think the New York strip was a little bit better. For our sides we got the veggies and rustler spud to share. The veggies were a little overcooked and watery, but at least they were flavorful. The the rustler spud had something off about it, my boyfriend thought it was chemical tasting, but I just thought it was off. Very average. Porterhouse steak was grisly and I'd say sort of bland. Salmon looked good and my friend reported it tasted good. Blue cheese salad dressing a bit vinegary tasting. Service was just below average, not terrible, just below average. Water glass never refilled. As for the ambiance, it met expectations. Nothing special, extremely noisy, but not surprising. If I had to suggest an improvement, move the tables a little bit further apart. I was sitting next to a birthday party, and every time the waitress went by, she banged into my chair. Once she actually whacked me in the head with the tray. It was certainly not her fault, and I did not get even remotely angry, but the layout of the restaurant could have been improved. All in all, I'd say this was, as I opened, very average. Almost forgot dessert. While I did not get dessert my friend did. I was very impressed that they were able to serve some simple ice cream. With all the ridiculously large desserts on the menu, they actually had a simple serving of vanilla ice cream with caramel and chocolate. Great idea. read more

This was my first time visiting Cattlemens, and we did so on a Friday evening without a reservation made until about 2 hours prior to arrival. We had to park fairly far away, kind of towards the back of the hotel Nextdoor because parking was limited. Regardless of being busy, we were seated fairly quickly and our service was good throughout our dining experience here. My husband ordered the "Sheriff" which was a massive 2lb sirloin steak. And no, he didn't finish it there. We took a massive steak home and ate it with eggs the next morning, lol I ordered the 6oz petite cut fillet with a side of seasonal vegetables. Both steaks were perfectly cooked, and really well seasoned with a nice char from the grill. No steak sauce required, just the way we like it. They brought fresh sourdough bread and butter, baked beans, and salad for the table which was "all you can eat" but that really means, whatever they bring and how quickly. lol The beans were a small portion for our party size, so some people didn't get any with their meal, but they brought them some packed to go to make up for it. Overall, the food was great and the service was satisfactory. We enjoyed our experience here, and look forward to visiting again soon! read more

This is a small chain of steakhouses in Northern California. It happened to be next to my hotel (Holiday Inn Express) plus hotel guests get a discount. So I took advantage of the win-win situation and gave it a try. It had been 30 years since my last visit to a Cattleman's as I am no longer in the area. The facility has steakhouse vibes. Wood paneling, red vinyl seating, fire in the fire place. I sat in the bar area and was able to watch the game as I ate. The bar is full service featuring margaritas, Mike's, beers, wines and other liquors. The meal service starts with unlimited salad and sourdough bread. Dinner quickly came. I splurged and went steak and lobster. I found it... ok. The steak was an 8 ounce sirloin. It lacked on seasoning. Then the lobster was just ok. It, too, seemed to lack flavor. Also the consistency seemed a little off. Maybe a little overcooked??? Service was great and everything up until my meal was what I hoped for. I was recently in the area and had an amazing meal at Cattlemens steakhouse. The Indian hotel I was staying at was a huge disappointment, so I ventured outward and found Cattelmens, and was very glad I did! I had a western cut of the prime rib with a salad, beans, and crispy garlic fries. Where they lost a star was I actually asked for "crispy" fries and I got soggy fries. Any seasoned prime rib with fries conousuer knows that the au jus only wicks into the fry when it's crispy. Soggy fries dipped in au jus just don't work. Boo! That said, I am generally against beans of any kind and their beans were awesome. AND, the cut of beef was incredible! They serve it on a hot iron plate, drenched with au jus, and then seared on both sides at the table. I was sitting at the bar so all that happened there, right in front of me. The prime rib was seriously awesome, and although I am from far away, I will remember Cattelmens for future meals! Oh, one last thing, giant mugs of local microbrews made this experience extra special for me, coming off a road trip to Bend OR. Great food, service, and tasty beers always make me happy! I've lived in Redding for over 20 years and this was my first time eating here. I've been cheating my self by waiting so long. Dinner was phenomenal. Probably the best steak in town. We had the steak dinner for two. Everything was great, from the app to the dessert and everything in between. Our fillet was cooked perfectly and no need for steak sauce as the flavor is on point. Prime rib is cooked at a precise temperature and probe in the oven so there is no to low chance of error. Only thing left to point to is just the quality of steak is bad. Beef rib was very dry. Indoor table service steakhouse with a Western theme and attentive friendly service. Clean bathrooms and a waiting room that includes old photos of Redding. They went all out on the decorating here (even the "max occupancy 200 persons" sign is artfully painted on an old saw), it adds to the experience. Plenty of parking along the left side (away from La Quinta Inn). Steaks are the stars of the show. Also give their mashed potatoes a try--they're the creamy style that includes some of the skins. read more

Coming here for dinner on our last vacation night was probably the highlight of our trip. The place felt very homey and cozy. We were able to get seated right away after making online reservations for a Saturday night. Unfortunately my cousin's plate wasn't able to get the prime rib but nonetheless the food was amazing. I got the pork half rack ribs and I loved it. I enjoy a good sweet bbq sauce. At the end of our meal, one of the hosts was so kind to get a picture of our group outside the restaurant. I dont usually eat fried calamari with tartar sauce, but this ssice is good. The cocktail is good as well, but there's horse radish, making it a little spicy for the kids. 2.rodeo burger w/ side of fries: My 12yo son says it's good. There are no veggies on the burger. Thick 1" patty and cooked just right 3. Rib eye, medium rare w/ side of cooked broccoli: cooked just right. seasoned well and flavorful. Tender and juicy. 4. Special, BBQ: Hubby says it's average. The BBQ marination is good, not too sweet. The ribs are good and fall off the bone easily while the chicken breast is moist though he would have preferred wings/thighs. We are regulars at this cattlemens. We have always had good service. I am disappointed with tonight's service and dinner. We took my best friend there for her birthday. I ordered shikabobs, bake potato. Medium well. Came redder then I like. And meal was luke warm. My friend got the sirloin ordered medium rare. She got hers well done and luke warm. My husband git the filet it was fine but potato was luke warm. I noticed our server Sarah kept walking by but checking on tables with more people. She'd just walk by us. Finally we got Jewels to help us. Thank you Jewels. The service was probably the worst I have had. I will eat there again, but Sarah will not be our waitress. read more

Never tried a Cattleman's. Beendriving by them for 20yrs or so but hadn't ever stopped by. They didn't disappoint. Now while not life changing, it was solid. and I like just plain ol, good service, good drinks, and good food... Now it's a big place but we could see it could get busy as we luckily timed it right before the dinner rush. I had a prime rib medium rare, on masters with broccoli nice. she had a NY strip medium, with baker and veg. the waitress suggested the butternut squash it was yummy. the all you can eat salad was a big hit for us and there was no shortage of steakhouse ranch as our waitress kept it coming.
