Karline's Restaurant in Redding is so great. Out favorite is their bread. I could just eat that, but don't the rest of the menu is wonderful. For starters we had steamed clams, calamari and meatballs. For our mains we decided on their Bistro Filet Ravioli, which has Ricotta, Romano, Parmesan, and Asiago jumbo stuffed raviolis, creamy alfredo, chili flakes, topped with their signature pan-seared bistro filet tips. It was amazing. We also had their Ribeye steak at about $53.00. I think it was a 14oz hand-cut ribeye, and it had the best butter on it. It came with mashed Yukon potatoes and marinated asparagus. We will be getting all of this again. We were staying in a hotel so took home some great pasta. The service is great. The food is amazing and the place is just so cute and ever so clean. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I had high hopes after reading the reviews and seeing the photos of the food on their online menu. However, I was extremely disappointed with my entrée. I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was so bland I was actually shocked. How could nothing on the plate have any flavor? I added salt and pepper twice and that didn't even help. The vegetables had zero seasoning. The mashed potatoes had huge chunks in them and zero seasoning. The chicken and Marsala sauce, tasteless. I saw so many reviews raving about the chicken Marsala. Maybe they got a new cook because the sauce was basically just heavy cream didn't look anything like other pictures people posted. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were very good and had lots of flavor but the marinara was also quite bland and the garlic bread was a joke. It was toasted bread with a smidge of butter, no garlic whatsoever. I will not go back for the price. Definitely not worth it. The fried artichokes and salad were good, but the entree is the most important part and they totally dropped the ball. We got to Karline's about 5:15 on a Friday night and the place was slammed - but they were able to seat us in the bar area within 15 minutes. It was comfortable, quiet, and I enjoyed watching the bartender and the kitchen staff at work. We were in time for Happy Hour and I took advantage of the $4 draft beer (Farmer's Light - fruity and fun); my wife went upscale and had a regular-priced glass of merlot ($8). Both of us had the chicken cranberry salad - it was delicious, with lots of chicken. The bread was good, too. Our server kept us fed and watered and was very helpful and pleasant. The location is really cozy, and they were really busy the day we went - so make sure to have a reservation! The self-made bread was nothing crazy, though it paired well with the vinegar-olive oil dip. We had the choice between a clam chowder soup, minestrone soup or a salad, and chose minestrone. It was not bad, but definitely needed salt. As for the main dishes: Lasagna was great, the Shrimp Scampi came in a white wine sauce which complimented the shrimp well. We got the Mango Sorbet for dessert which was what you expect, except it had a few ice crystals in it. We also got the Spumoni Ice Cream which is Pistachio, Cherry, and Nougat flavors combined which are apparently supposed to represent the Italian flag. It was very delicious. We have been very curious about this place and so we decided to try it as we were in the area. Karline's Restaurant and Bar is a family-owned establishment and has been since 2015. A local favorite for those who enjoy a friendly welcome coupled with an elegant ambiance. It just happened to be half priced wine bottle Wednesday, which was awesome. So, we treated ourselves to a bottle of our favorite Moscato. Our dinner Included house-made focaccia bread with dipping oil and your choice of soup or salad (we both went with the house mushroom soup which was superb). We ordered the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer and it to die for. Brussels sprouts, with feta cheese, bacon, dried cranberries, finished with a balsamic reduction. I ordered the Ribeye which was a 14oz hand-cut ribeye, is was served with Karline's signature compound butter, on top of mashed Yukon potatoes and marinated asparagus. My partner ordered the Creamy Pesto Chicken, which was Pesto alfredo, fettuccine served with grilled chicken. We were both extremely satisfied with our meals and very stuffed. Our waitress was amazing, she was attentive, efficient, and friendly and checked on us frequently making sure we had refills of anything we needed. We really enjoyed Karline's. We were travelling through and saw the Yelp reviews so stopped there on Thursday evening. We were a little confused at first with the location. We didn't see the sign in the parking lot and almost left until we saw others going in. There isn't obvious signage on the building. Our waitress, Katie, was wonderful. I had the pasta piccata with red snapper, which I thought was delicious. My friend had the chicken marsala which he also really liked. We had tiramisu for dessert. All was delicious. I am old upon this place for my birthday dinner and I am so glad that I did. It's nestled nearby downtown redding I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. You could tell that the pasta was from scratch and the sauce was very buttery and creamy. To drink I also ordered a lemon drop that was served in a beautiful glass. The environment was very cozy and inviting, but most importantly the customer service was absolutely amazing and appreciated. Tuesdays are buy martini one get one 50% off. Adding this to my list of places I need to visit next time I am in town. Shanda was the best bartender!!!! She made the most perfect dirty Tito's martini for me. She gave amazing suggestions on food and everything was perfect. She listened and paid attention to my stories but also when I needed a refill. It was fun to meet some of the locals that visit often. But finding a good meal on the road where a lot of things are made in house is very hard... This was my first time at Karline's and I was not impressed. I unfortunately was on a liquid only fast so I could not eat any solid foods. Our waitress was Katie and she was very nice however, I was disappointed when I ordered a Dr. Pepper for a beverage and never received it. I think she forgot it. I also was not pleased with the shape my water glass was in. You can see in the picture there are multiple big cuts or gashes on the inside of the cup. I think the cup should be thrown away and not given to customers. My wife and I ordered the tomato soup and it was very tasty. I quickly ate the first bowl and asked Katie for a second order of soup. I was surprised when she brought me another soup order in a massive bowl, two or three times the size of the normal soup bowl (pictured). I wasn't disappointed in the amount she was giving me but in the fact that she said they only have two (normal) soup bowls and since me and my wife were using them, she brought a bigger bowl. Karline's is a non-descript tough to find restaurant just north of the Eureka Way overpass. I saw a sign saying open during remodel so that might explain what we found... Karline's looks like a military building on the outside (no sign to be found) but we walked around the building and went into the door half expecting to be in the wrong place. Upon entry we were transported to an enchanting evening decor reminiscant of dining in Italy at night in the open air. We were seated immediately as we arrived upon opening and our waitress Melissa was prompt to get our drinks. What luck for us as we happened to come on Wine Wednesday where bottles are half price! My mother picked out a bottle and we made our selections. Crispy Calamari - 10 - Although this is served on a medium sized plate, there was a ton of food The calamari had a firm but tender bite with a light crisp. I enjoyed the added flavors of onion and peppers to make every bite a new adventure. Burrata Caprese - 8 - Amazing presentation of burrata with an assortment of olives, artichoke, garlic, apples, pears?, spinach leaves and toasted points drizzled in balsamic vinegar. The main attraction (burrata) was very good but the toasted points lacked in flavor and quantity. I'd prefer a rustic baguette as this was closer to French bread. The olives apples and pears didn't pair well (haha) with the cheese itself and the garlic was too firm to smear but made for good bites on their own to break the monotony of cheese and bread. If the garlic was cooked a little longer it would have been better. This dish is a great value as there is snacking for 4 in this large bowl of fun. Shrimp Scampi - 7 - Delicious pasta lightly coated in a tart lemon sauce with a row of deliciously firm shrimp. I felt the sauce had too much lemon but was still good. I felt the star of the show was the grilled fall vegetables. I did enjoy how clean and healthy this dish was but the sauce just wasn't for me. Lasagna - 10 - Who doesn't want a huge portion of toasted bubbling cheese with equal amounts of rich ricotta and high-grade meat in a rich sauce. I will never order another dish here...I found it. Literally the best lasagna Ive ever had. Try it and feel the love!!! Entree sides: Minestrone soup had a rich hearty tomato sauce packed with flavor and ample quantity of vegetables. Perfect dish while recovering from a cold, one of the best minestrone soups I've had. Entree salad had a delicious blend of lettuces tomatoes, carrot, cucumber, and blue cheese chunks topped with lightly crisped croutons. They could have just went cheap but this salad actually has flavors. Well done! What a find in Redding. My family is excited to have found delicious Italian cuisine in the local area. What a nice hidden gem for Redding! This place really knows what they are doing from welcoming greeting at the door, stand out service and very well made food. Hubs and I ordered a bottle of white wine which was delivered in a chilling stand on our table, it was a nice touch rather than just the bottle on the table. We were seated near the open kitchen and was fun to watch their staff in action with all the burners going and they all worked very well together...even witnessed smiles and what looked like small joking and definitely all worked well together Since it was just the 2 of us, we shared the steamed clams as an appetizer and the Beef Stroganoff, which came with a split salad as well. The clams were perfectly tasty as was the toasted bread that accompanied it for the broth. The salad dressings are house made and was awesome as well. I'm a fan of fresh made food! The Chicken Marsala stood out as the best dish I've had in Redding so far. The calamari and fried artichokes are enjoyable, but the fry flavor hints the oil may not be as fresh as it could be. The only thing I will say is that when our bill came, they charged us higher than the menu stated on many of the items. For the ribeye, we did add shrimp, but it's still more than the menu stated. My wife and I stopped in for an anniversary dinner. I ordered the piccatta linguine with red snapper, and my wife ordered the pesto salmon. Her dish was good. She ate the whole thing. My dish was average. The linguine and sauce was tasty, the red snapper was rather bland. The big disappointment were the mixed vegetables served on the plate. The cook must've just opened a bag from Raley's and threw them on the plate. No seasoning, no pan-frying, no butter. We had no appetizer, asking for bread and olive oil only. Both came out cold as a witch's nose ! Folks, warm the bread, keep the oil at room temperature. Some of the basic tenants of cooking 101 are missing from Karline's. This is the most expensive restaurant!!!! I ever went, I thought the price will meet the quality of the food. But yeah not at all, the appetizers we order calamari and the bread. The $18 calamari I can count how many peaces are they on the plate the rest are onions, garlic, and jalapeños. The bread is dry and cold like someone serve you the bread from the left over bread from the morning. My main course was mahi-mahi. Cost $28 and it was biter since the salmon got burned. And the rest of us there were 6 of us with the cost $300 it is a wasted money!!!! The rest of us was not really happy with our food. Compare to Olive Garden... I haven't been here since it changed from the old Gironda's, which was one of our favorites. Happy to report it still has the same atmosphere and the food is good. We were there on a Friday night and it was packed. Our server was swamped so service was kind of slow. I asked for extra spicy jambalaya, which I'd heard is usually on the mild side if you don't ask, and they delivered right on the money. We shared appetizers, and those were my favorite. Steamed clams (delicious), bruschetta (of course) and calamari (always). Definitely happy with those. For dessert, although I was full, we got crème brûlée and it was great All in all a good experience. read more

Wow!!!! What a find!!! I'm visiting the Redding,Ca area and was looking for the perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal. There is plenty of parking right off the bat. When you walk in you will be greeted with the sounds of Frank Sinatra or something close, guaranteed the friendly and smiling folks will welcome you in .I'll be honest here, this is my 3rd time in 2 weeks I have been here. This is definitely a wonderful place to bring someone or come alone . I have been trying the nightly specials I have not been disappointed yet! There is a nice bar to set at and Shanda has been a blessing, I don't drink and she's happy to be creative and make me non-alcoholic drinks . I really appreciate being able to call on a Friday night for a Saturday evening meal. The service was amazing, the server was very attentive to our needs having 3 great-grandkids with different dietary requirements. It was appreciated that they switched out French fries for carrot sticks. Everyone walked, waddled, away from the table, very content with their meal. The portions and quality were priced appropriately for the service. We will definitely be visiting on some of our future and frequent trips to Redding.
