I have eaten at nello's before several times. Unfortunately my last time I ordered cioppino. I ended up getting one scallop and an entire bowl of seafood. There are a couple of things that I really like about Nellos place. First off when my wife and I walked into the restaurant we really enjoyed the atmosphere. However the restaurant could have used a little but more lighting when trying to read the menu but we can adapt by using our Cell Phone Flash as Lights to read the menu. When the waiter came to the table my wife and I ordered drinks. We got Dr. Pepper and then they brought us bread. The bread was really good and when it came time to order the food, and might I add the Waiter was very fast and efficient. Also he was very thorough about the items on the menu and that he had some recommendations that we should try. The sald was mixed with oil and vinegar which my wife said it tasted more oily then it did with vinegar. Then came the entrees. I ordered Manicotti and my wife order Eggplant Parmesan. So while I didnt get any noodles on my Manicotti I got Crepe with Ricotta cheese. While the food wasnt so bad, this being our first time visiting Nellos Place, I know the next time I'm going to order the Spaghetti & Meatballs or something more Pasta'ish. My Manicotti was tasty and filling but it really tasted like I ate fried cheese. My wife said that her eggplant parmesan was okay. I was blown away by Nello's Place!! The entire experience was classy, stellar and attentive service, and the food was delicious and so so filling! Chicken Cacciatore - 10/10 Huge plate of heaping veggies and chicken on a bed of pasta and covered in a delicious tomato sauce. It was literally addicting to eat this and the chicken was soo juicy & flavorful. At the the end, the waiters gave roses to everyone at the table, which was such a lovely and memorable touch! I had to go to Nello's just because I needed some really good food and nice people, all the years I've been going there and never tried the veal parmigiana WOW!!!!What a mistake I have been making it was better than just delicious cheese melts in your mouth so tender you can cut it with your fork if you wanted to it was an absolute treat. And so much food I had to bring half of it home to enjoy. Nello's once again made my Friday night dinner special. Again the service was excellent even though it was a busy Friday night we never felt neglected,waiter kept me informed about our meal again the nice low lights the atmosphere is always nice. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary at Nello's...our first visit. Love the candlelit, San Francisco atmosphere. Service was excellent. The restaurant was very busy but we were never rushed. The pace of the delivery of our food courses was perfect. The house salad is made table side. We both ordered the Veal Piccata which was excellent. The food portions are very generous. Our waiter has worked there for 10 years. All of the staff hustled and take pride in their work to make sure everything is perfect. We will definitely return. read more

Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience! I used to be a big fan of Nello's in Redding -- the unique pasta flavors, quiet ambiance, and attentive service made it one of my go-to spots. Unfortunately, after a recent visit in the summer of 2025, I won't be returning. During dinner, I bit into something in my salad that broke a tooth. I brought this to the waiter's attention, and he said he would speak with the manager. When he returned, he placed our bill on the table and said, "Your dinner is free," but still charged us for the rest of our party's meals -- without so much as a basic apology. We then spoke directly to the owner, hoping for a more professional response, but instead he argued that "teeth break for no reason" -- as if that explained or excused what happened. We weren't trying to get a free meal; we simply expected acknowledgment, concern, and a little empathy. Nello's used to be a favorite, but after this experience -- the lack of accountability, the rude service, and the dismissive attitude from ownership -- we won't be coming back. read more

Let me start out by saying you really want to make a reservation! We made our reservation online and when we arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation time they had us wait in the bar for a little while before we were able to get a table. This was not an issue for us because we planned on having a drink before our meal anyway. I ordered the tortellini and it was delicious! My husband had the lasagna and loved it but was envious because my plate was bigger ‍. I would say his lasagna was a generous size portion. The minestrone soup was also delicious! Our waiter forgot to bring us the plate of antipasto so I can't review that. At the end of the meal I was delivered a beautiful rose that is still alive 2 weeks later. Went here for the first time on Saturday night, had a reservation for 630 for three people. We arrived at 6:30 and we're seated about 645. I ordered the beef ravioli. My friend ordered the lasagna and her husband ordered seafood fettuccine. The food was inedible. My raviolis were cold and had no flavor, the lasagna was all noodles covered in marinara, and the seafood linguine just tasted of dairy. Disappointed with the Reservation Process and Rude Management I had a very disappointing experience at Nello's in Redding. I made a reservation online, but the system is confusing--it says the reservation must be confirmed, but it's unclear whether the confirmation is their responsibility or if guests are expected to call. When I tried to call to confirm, no one answered the phone, which made things even more frustrating. Eventually, the manager called to tell us our reservation wouldn't be honored because the restaurant was sold out. Not only was this extremely frustrating, but the manager was also shockingly rude during the call and made no effort to apologize or offer a solution. For a restaurant that markets itself as a fine Italian dining experience, the customer service was severely lacking. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend Nello's based on this experience. read more

My husband and I ate at Nello's last night (Friday). Our reservation was 6:30 and we were seated promptly. For appetizers, we had the prawn cocktail (4 giant prawns) and the steamed clams before ordering our entrees. We took our time because this was our first time here and we wanted to try a few different items, knowing we would need to-go boxes. I ordered the Scampi della Casa and he ordered the Bistecca. Entrees came with an antipasto plate, bread and butter, a pasta dish (manicotti for me and cannelloni for him, served prior to the entree), and the entree plates were served with the main item plus penne pasta with marinara sauce, and steamed zucchini and broccoli. We both loved our meals - good flavors, everything cooked to order, and large servings. We ordered tiramisu and cheesecake to go. Patrick was our outstanding server. The lighting was perfect - no need to use our phones to see the menus, the leather booth was comfortable, the noise level was higher than expected with lots of large Christmas parties nearby. I recently relocated back to the area and was happy to find that nothing has changed at Nello's place. I've dined here twice recently. The first time we didn't get the antipasto plate with the bread that we always looked forward to having. On our second visit we inquired about it with our waitor and it turns out they do still offer it if you ask about it. I had the veal shrimp picatta, a house special. It's a popular dish that completely lives up to the hype. We ordered the house cab on recommendation from my husband's friend and it was perfect with our dinner. The service is experienced and attentive, best to make reservations. The restaurant is crowded but cozy and the facilities are nice and clean.
