Eggs Benny with mouth watering filet mignon and Monte Cristo - both so delicious!
    Michelle F.

We love View 202. Always have. Always will. Today we had brunch which was divine. My oldest daughter baby granddaughter and me. Peter was our guy for brunch. A lovely view of the river and sounds of geese flying near on this mild overcast morning with heaters burning as we sat outdoors on the patio was perfect. Tinkly jazz music playing - my daughter had eggs Benedict with filet mignon and I had the Monte Cristo. Baby granddaughter shared. We had lavender lemonade and coffee and also the amazing bread to dip into the delicious garlic olive oil -- Peter was charming and fun. Other guests interacted with us -- it was an absolutely fabulous time. The food was out of this world. Perfect hollandaise and the filet and eggs melted in your mouth. Hats off to the chef! To add more---- We have normally only had dinner here for many years and we also had a bridal shower event here too. It was a very festive fun and delicious time for all of us ladies.

This place was very busy. Was seated quickly. Service was good. Food is a bit pricey, but tasted good. Ambiance was nice. Right by the river. Patio seating. Nice place to eat. Wish the sides were a bit bigger. 4 stars smoked prime rib. Price is a bit on the high side for the food portions. The sides were so small. The food was good. I ate everything. Tasted good. Nicely cooked.

The food here was incredible but we sat there for like 15 minutes and we had to stand up and walk over and asked for service. Maybe they were shortstaffed but I think we should've been at least offered drinks the first 15 minutes of sitting down.

My husband and I came in for our anniversary ! We were wowed by our overall service from Pete and the hostess were both wonderful! View 202 made our anniversary experience the best ever! Food was comparable to Hell's Kitchen BUT way better! We did not get to sit on the deck but the hostess took our pictures for us! We definitely plan on coming back :) 10/10 recommend checking view 202 for your next date night! Highly recommend the short rib, blueberry salad, hibiscus margarita, and the cheesecake with blueberry!

Had an amazing time at View 202! The atmosphere was perfect, as well as the food and Peter, our host, made the experience even better with his warm and attentive service. What a wonderful Father's Day experience at View 202! Peter was an exceptional host, making everything feel extra special. My dad absolutely loved it, and it was the perfect way to celebrate. Thank you again Peter.

Indoor bar area. Drinks on the patio.

Patio seating was great on a sunny Friday afternoon. We made it to Social Hour (3:30-5) which had great prices on drinks and a handful of appetizers (no pun intended). My husband and I both loved our drinks. We shared the orange rosemary edamame, which was surprisingly good. Service was fantastic. Overlooks the river.

Arrived early on New Year's Eve and scored a great table with a view. Server Peter balanced professional service with a warm sense of humor. We will be back!

I came for dinner and got fine dining. I'm very glad that I made reservations early on. Traci was our awesome waitress, and Julina was our server. Both of these ladies provided superior customer service. The house was very busy, but they were extremely accommodating. They seem to be easily managing the crowds even though it looked a little shorthanded from the employees' part. But they seemed to back up and help each other wonderfully. The design of this place was romantic. There are huge windows all around and a large deck where you can eat outside and watch the sunset. Inside the ceiling had wonderful chandeliers. Outside, they had this light array overhead that was romantic. After the sunset, the outdoor heaters were a godsend. We decided to try a little of everything so we could enjoy our anniversary out and being disabled and getting all the help that they gave us, it was a delight to have selected this place, as it was our first time in the area. TY YELP. Dinner arrived, and it was stunning with every plate that came to our table. It was a win on every point. Portions were just the right size, and they had incredible eye appeal. But that's not all. I have a very unique ability to determine deep layers of tasting flavors. The chef was totally a pro. Happy palate for all at the table. I started my meal with a very tastey, bloody mary. First came our bread basket with local sourced homage style lovely bread with a pesto dip were the basil was the star and the garlic wasn't. It even had a hint of lemon on the buds. Perfect. As an appetizer we shared the Vegan Scallops. It was Scallops Seared King Trumpet Mushrooms, Marinated in a White Wine Tamari Miso Paste Concoction, Served with Wasabi Pea Puree, Truffle Oil, Edamame, Peas, Trumpet Bacon, Garnished with Daikon Micro Greens, and Edible Flowers. OMG. amazing. I can not describe how beautiful it was or the flavors that I encountered on this salad. Then came the Prawn Blend of the Three House Made Fettuccine Pastas, Blistered Harvest Cherry Tomatoes, Confit Garlic, Asparagus, and Pesto Sauce. My wife had the Chicken Marsala. Gorgeous all. We finished with the Flourless Chocolate Cake, Blackberry Compote, Chocolate Ganache, and Vanilla Ice Cream. Save me from my happiness. Sooooo good. Lots of ice cream. Honestly, if I'm in the area, I will book and not miss the next adventure in epicurean sociability. WTG TEAM 202

I have an attachment to this place because this is where my wife and I ate the day I proposed to her. We sat outside over looking the gorgeous river. They have great tasting food and yummy desserts. We returned to the View a little over a year later to celebrate our anniversary. I reserved our table online and provided a note to them that we are celebrating our anniversary. They were sweet enough to have a plaque at our table when we arrived. I definitely recommend eating here for a nice date night or just out with the family.

The entrance was a bit tough to recognize. In addition, the sign requesting patrons to wait to be seated was absent personnel. The youngster arrived while on the phone taking a reservation. Further delay as she coordinated seating for the large group (showing up on Wednesday, she shared). She mentioned they were slow and said I could select whatever table I liked. I ordered a savory martini and filet mignon, mashed potatoes and French onion soup. Soup arrived with the martini and the two could not have been more oppositely received. The soup exquisite, the martini...nearly undrinkable. But to be fair, I wasn't expecting an overwhelming bell pepper flavor. Black pepper Absolute Vodka was the description. I detest bell peppers. I tried to choke down as much as I could, then decided to give up halfway through. The soup was sublime. A 1/4 inch slice of brown toast under the melted Swiss cheese, the broth and onions delicious. I requested a 6 ounce pour of the Caymus California Cabernet Sauvignon with the steak. It arrived with my meat and potatoes beautifully plated. I'm not sure I wasn't served a sirloin. That filet was the shape of no filet I've ever bought or been served. But it was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were sublime - buttery and flavorful. The wine with less tannins than I anticipated- I really enjoyed that. Service was attentive and both the hostess and my server checked on me. My drive back to Sacramento will be pleasant.

Mac and cheese with bacon, French onion soup and the surf & turf skewers. French onion Soup was DELICIOUS, we added a little salt to the other two dishes and they were really good too. For dinner I ordered the $24 Caesar - it was good and it was big but it was a lot for a basic good tasting Caesar. Husband ordered the Chicken Parm over pasta with a red sauce and he loved it. Portion was huge and he brought half home. For dessert we had the cheesecake and the cream brûlée, both really good. Only downside, if you are dropping almost $200 for dinner, the bathrooms need to be clean and upscale. Mold in the ladies room toilet at the waterline - yuck - and Toilet paper dispenser broken and laying on the floor in the stall. This needs improvement. Overall we were happy with our meal and we will be back.

Assistance+ Balance+…read moreCleanliness+ Deliciousness++ Environment+ Assistance: service was prompt professional and kind, we were greeted warmly and treated kindly. Our waitress was wonderful, the cook was prompt and masterful, the Owner oversaw his restaurant like a proud Lord watching over his kingdom, greeting friends and customers warmly. Balance: quantity and quality versus price were good. Cleanliness: the restaurant was good and good clean order, only complaint is there were a few flys. Clearly the opportunistic as it seemed every time someone would open a door a fly would charge in as quickly as they could following the sweet sweet smell of barbecue. Deliciousness: when I tell you I'm a barbecue snob, I mean it in every sense of the word. I've been grilling since I was a child, I've lived in the south I've lived in the east I've lived on the West Coast and I've lived in the Carolinas. My palate is normally greatly displeased with every barbecue I encounter but I take it for its own merit. Each grill master has their own ups and downs. So when I tell you this was some of the best barbecue I've ever had in my life you can take it as gospel. What you taste when you eat the barbecue here is the meat, the smoke, and the love that goes into it which is a vague term that is hard to define, if I were to try I would have to say that it's a combination of care, the way they prepare it and take care of the meat after it's prepared, seasoning, seasoning is very easy to overdo depending on the meat how long it's going to be cooked what cut it is where it came from how it was processed etc, and how they cut slice or prepare it. That's what love means when it comes to grilling and barbecue. Care, seasoning, preparation. So yes, Old Mill Eatery and Smokehouse blew me away. I only sampled their ground beef, bacon, and tri-tip, but if those are any indicator at the mastery they have over meat I am looking forward to trying everything they have to offer. My tri-tip was cooked to perfection, I could taste the beef, although it was shaved very thin because I had it on a sandwich I could still tell it was tri-tip and not just roast beef being pushed off as tri-tip, the bread was fluffy and fresh and seared with a bit of butter, soft and warm but crisp on the edge, the onion rings were fluffy and yet crispy on the outside, the garlic tater tots were perfect in every way crispy crunchy and savory, the bacon blue Burger was cooked to perfection it was not overpowered by blue cheese crumble and the bacon almost seemed as if it was not only peppered but candied in thick slabs, the side order of garlic bread was perfectly cooked crisp on the edges fluffy in the middle buttery and garlicky as it should be. Absolutely incredible top marks! Environment: there are only a few tables as the restaurant is a bit smaller but what they do with their space is comfortable and works. The restaurant itself is decorated like a lodge, reminiscent of a sawmill or a logging camp, with treated wood and a log cabin aesthetic, the decorations themselves consist mostly of historic articles and photos of both friend and family and the history of the restaurant. They also sell very cool cups that I definitely meant to get and will have to go back to that one for myself and the Missus. I need to make a mental note of that. All together this was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back. Their menu had so many things I want to try. The French toast tacos caught my eye definitely going to try that. But more importantly to me I want more of that barbecue, I want to try the brisket, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, I want to try it all! If the other items are half as good as what I had today I don't think I need to eat anywhere else. If you find yourself in Shasta Lake do yourself a favor and try the Old Mill Eatery and Smokehouse. See if you can take on their Giant Smokehouse Burger or a Pit Master challenge.
