Well I have not been to this place in over twenty years, and I was quite impressed. The place is well lit and clean, even the bathroom's. Our cashier was patient and very polite, he even used his manners, which surprises me in this day and age. I gave three stars because the service is great, the fish was as close as I have found to Foghorn's Fish and Chips that was once located on Haight St. in San Francisco, California in the 1960s (the best), and the Cole slaw is vastly improved compared to the sour cabbage mixture they used to serve a few years back. I knocked off two stars because the posted prices at the restaurant were a dollar or two higher than those listed in their on-line menu, as well as the dry (I assume they're baked and not deep fried) crinkle-cut French fries. These chips?\fries were unsalted (I can handle that), but they seemed like mashed potatoes that hand been formed by machine into crinkle-cut French fry shapes. They were very dry on the inside, and perfectly tasteless. I've never had chips that were so healthy, and thus, unappealing. Deep fry my chips like every other fish and chips restaurant does. If I wanted health food, I'd bake my fries at home in the oven, while listening to Joan Baez screech out a song about something we all need to feel guilty for. read more

Great spacious ambiance with good food. This is a solid choice if you plan to have fish and chips. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. They have a maritime theme with beautiful murals and models of lighthouses for decor. You also get an extra slide of fish with every meal that you choose. We ordered the combination meal of 2 fish with popcorn shrimp with a cup of clam chowder and jalapeno poppers. The clam chowder was excellent - warm, not too thick, just the right amount of salt and delicious. The battered fish was decent - I would have liked slightly thicker fish fillets and less batter, but it was delicious. The popcorn shrimp was excellent. The fries were very good and the coleslaw was excellent. The poppers were delicious but a little too crunchy from frying. Service was fast even though they said it would take a while. The guys manning the whole restaurant were very nice. All in all, this was a good fish and chips experience, decently priced especially for an extra fillet of fish, and in a clean, cute maritime restaurant. Definitely recommend! read more

I absolutely love this place. I have been going to the lighthouse for over 15 years! You can't get fish and chips anywhere this delicious! The batter is not too thin and it's not too thick. It's perfect! My personal favorite is the two piece fish with oysters and I get zucchini strips instead of fries. I also get a bowl of clam chowder to go. It's always amazing! I haven't been to the lighthouse in about two years because I live an hour away but I had an appointment on November 17, 2025 . so we stopped in after for a quick bite around 3 PM ! The gentleman that waited on us and served us is a rare dying breed. He was so wonderful! He's very polite and very helpful with any questions! He's a fast worker that pays attention to detail! We absolutely adored him! You cannot get help that good anymore! I'm sure he was trained to have good customer service skills, but you can't teach everybody that! We absolutely loved him! I almost forgot drinks and he reminded me and he was very attentive. If my eyes were wondering he would walk over to the table and ask if I needed anything and how everything was. The staff are courteous and truly know what great customer service is, and the food never disappoints. I've had the calamari--amazing--but my go-to is the fish and chips. They offer one, two, or three pieces, and they always throw in an extra. I usually get the three-piece and have lunch for the next day. By the way it's delicious hot OR cold! The Portions are generous--two pieces would fill most people up. The ambiance is kind of like a fish shack at the coast, but instead of a beautiful ocean view, you have Hartnell Blvd, which serves as the heartbreaking reminder that you are NOT at the beach! Popeyes Chicken Strips! Yep! I ordered a two piece fish and chicken. Saw the Popeyes delivered by Door Dash, the man behind the counter paid for them and then disappear into the kitchen only to have reappear with them on my plate. The waiter insisted they were not Popeyes. But, they looked and tasted like old Popeyes chicken. The fish was not crispy at all. Instead of golden, brown and crispy, it was fried low and slow, to a dark turd brown to absorb as much grease as possible. The chips were fresh! Fresh from the bag! But, by their flavor we're not even name brand. Our appetizer, the fried cheese bread, was just that, a piece of sliced sandwich bread, dipped in fish batter and dismally fried like the fish. Topped with processed white cheese that had not melted. All for $5.86 and served after our main course. It was 6:00 pm. Out of approximately 30 tables, there were 7 customers. The meal was expensive. $78. Next time I eliminate the middle man, save some cash, and stop at Popeyes! Please take the UK flag down before you destroy our relationship with this country. 1st time stopping in this fish and chips restaurant. A true diamond in the rough Unassuming spot in a small strip mall. Once you go inside it is light, airy and impeccably clean. Cute nautical motif w/ great murals on the walls. Had the fish and chips. Yes, they re ally do give you an extra piece of fish. The batter were regular or light. Both were delicious. I love the food at lighthouse. Unfortunately don't go at night because usually the grease hasn't been changed and it can be a little tasty of yesterday's fish. But if you go at noon they are fantastic. If you order a one piece you get two pieces if you order a two-piece you get three. My suggestion is get the one or two piece with the shrimp deep fried. Excellent choice if you can. You'll get a lot of fries with them too. They have a sauce station with ketchup red cocktail sauce and white sauce. They also give you a side of coleslaw that's to die for better than Colonel Sanders. What a great experience! We were looking for something new to try in town, and The Lighthouse certainly did not disappoint. The customer service was great! The cashier was joking with us while we were ordering, and another person was making sure everyone was happy. The restaurant was clean and didn't smell like fried food at all. The condiments station was spotless, the tables were clean, the floors didn't feel sticky. You know how the smell of fried food sticks to your clothes when you enter an establishment? You didn't have to worry about that at all here, which was much appreciated. The food...the food!! The serving size was enormous, more than enough to take home for a second meal. I loved adding the malt vinegar to the fries, it was the acid you needed to break up the richness of the fried food. The potato salad and cole slaw was nice and cool, a great side. The fish was amazing, perfectly crispy exterior with a flakey interior. The fish and chips didn't taste and feel oily at all, which was impressive to me. The fish didn't taste fishy at all, but the batter didn't overpower the fish as well. It was very well balanced. Definitely looking forward to coming back. The fish and chips I ordered were average. The smell of fish was overwhelming. Fresh fish should not smell fishy. I had to leave my car out of the garage with all the windows down the entire next day to get rid of the smell. If I hadn't been so hungry I probably would have tossed it. Saying that it tasted okay. The fries were crinkle fries I could buy at the grocery store. The very best fish and chips that I've found in Redding is at Carlene's. I would have ordered from them but they are closed on Mondays. No oil or liquid dripped out of them as you took your first bite, which I have experienced before at many places. The fish battering were not mushy on the bottom from sitting on the fires and the oil settling there like other places. They actually give you an extra piece of fish with each order! Fish is mediocre at best (super oily) and the fry's were over cooked. Lacking flavor in everything including the cole slaw. Could have added some lemons with the fish but nope! I arrived just a the Lighthouse opened, so there was only the wait time of them preparing my meal.. 5-7 mins. The portion was great the both the person that took my order and the one that brought my order were polite. The meal itself was great, breaded to perfection, crunchy and well seasoned. my only suggestion would be to salt the chips/fries mine didn't seem to have any salt on them. A few people from work were hyping this place up for me, probably better to not have expectations coming here. The fish and calamari are good, both seem freshly battered. fries are standard frozen crinkle cuts. The popcorn shrimp are pre-battered frozen bulk. For the sauce station, the room temp ketchup works well for me but I think tartar sauce should be made fresh if you're gonna put that much effort into the fish. Ironically the fresh ranch tastes great. Also the water from the drink dispenser tastes really funny, probably moldy water lines or something with the machine. A couple hits and a few misses. I'll probably be back for some takeout now that I have an idea of what's good on the menu. read more

The shrimp were fine, standard popcorn shrimp. The clam strips and fries were adequate but nothing special. The platter is a great value. My wife and I both really love good fish and chips. We were spending 4 or 5 hours in Redding on Friday and I looked up seafood in Redding for lunch as we live up in the town of Mt. Shasta. Lighthouse was one of the options that showed up, menu looked good so we drove over. What a pleasant surprise we found. Both order 3 pc fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder. Both got 4 pieces of fish which were crispy and fantastic. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are down in Redding in the future.
