Chicken bowl with veggie n. rice
    Karyn H.

First great customer service. Clean store front. Can eat in or carry out. Good size menu. I did the bowl chicken teriyaki with emphasis on more veggies than rice. Cooked to order. And i succumbed to Spam Musabi. One for now and one for tomorrow. Everything tasted fab. Hot fresh utensils and sauces. Happy tummy. Thanks for the guy here tonight 7/11 I didn't get his name but you did me well. Btw clean bathroom too.

Food is delicious, service is fast and staffs are courteous. The inside is small but clean. Our Hawaiian go to whenever on Redding!

Across the parking lot from Safeway sits a Niu Hawaiian BBQ joint. Ha Ha cool looking tiki hut vibe to order from and super nice staff. There's a handful of small tables inside if you want to dine in. We tried a couple menu items to go to vet the place out. Kahlua Pork and Chicken Katsu -8 Kahlua Pork was tender and flavorful. The Katsu was decent but not as crispy or flavorful as I've had. The macaroni salad was aight... French Fries - 4 - High quality fries but cooked at too low of temperature leaving them greasy and not crispy. Chicken Combo -7 BBQ chicken was cooked very well but was a little plain. It's all about those sauces to make the meal tasty. Not bad Hawaiian BBQ but I've certainly had better. I bet there's some options with that Kahlua Pork that could make a good bite!

Family Meal: short ribs, bbq chicken, katsu chicken, rice, and macaroni salad with Spam Musubi.

After a long day of hiking, we were too tired to cook nor dine in anywhere, so we called in for a pickup order. We chose the family meal, which made decision making a lot easier. The family meal ($36.99) comes with rice, macaroni salad, and three choices of meat: katsu chicken, bbq chicken, and short ribs. We also added an order of spam musubi ($4.49) for 2 pieces. The order was ready in 15 minutes and it was a super quick transaction. They also provided plates, utensils and a full bag of condiments. I'm not exaggerating when I say a full bag of hot sauce, soy sauce, katsu and teriyaki sauce. This meal was just enough for a family of four. The meats were a bit skimpy though, but still solid. I definitely needed the katsu sauce to give that extra flavor though. The mac salad was a tad bland, but the rice was soft and fluffy. Overall, the spot isn't quite as good as Ono Hawaiian or L&L Hawaiian, but it's a pretty good option in a city like Redding with not that many food options.

Ask the Community - Niu Hawaiian BBQ

Does Niu have Hawaiian Lau Lau?

We unfortunately do not have Lau Lau. We just don't have the equipment or room needed to cook it. We do however have the Kalua Pork which, although different, is also pulled pork if that's what you're looking for.

    Sorry we don't have it?

Yes we do.. it's in the safway parking lot next to Lowe's on east Cypress Ave.

    Do they have pineapple gravy?

They have pineapple fried rice but I didn't see pineapple gravy.

We were greeted by a basket of warmed french bread and a ramekin of butter Tyler brought to our table. He's pleasant man who wasn't new to food service, friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings. I thought he'd probably started back a bit in that kitchen. He was fun and did an excellent job for us and his other tables. We finally settled on our refreshments, M took a Cowboy Lemonade in a tall (pint) glass and I went with a strawberry iced tea. Mine was great just a hint of the strawberry and not sweet. M ordered a Rib Eye Taco's appetizer, I had my go to with my goto 1/2 baby back ribs. my sides were garlic french fries (2.99) baked beans are automatic and the "endless" salad with house-made blue cheese dressing. We shared the bowl of salad that you add a good amount of dressing and toss it till you're happy with the outcome. I forgot to say no croutons so I scooped those off. We shared the salad, probably a rule breaker but one bowl was enough. We waited awhile for the entree, I didn't watch the clock. We are on a holiday road trip to Oregon and needed a break. Dinner arrived brought out by another server or expediter, I like that practice. Thank you. 1/2 a rack there was a good layer of meat on the top of this rack, it was heavy and plenty enough for me. Fries a bit weathered but done right, could have been hotter. M re-prepared her taco's having me take the sliced jalapeños off the plate and she added some of my pork to her taco. I didn't clear my plate, I'd had my fill no need to overdoit. Dessert yes please, all are made in house a real treat. However; excess is not a sustainable diet plan... Thanks Tyler a great experience for us. Cheers Foodguy-martin

Bludso's in LA has been the only legitimate bbq I've had in California until now. Who would've thought in Redding of all places, I would find a legitimate bbq place. Little did we realize, no one else could compare! From initial email correspondence to picking up the leftovers, our contact Ashley was the model of professionalism, accuracy and kindness. She is a true Brand Ambassador! Upon arrival, we had a reserved table marked & waiting for us, we were greeted like family friends, the team was happy to delay our tasting a bit when some of the party arrived a little later than planned (yours truly), we were treated to a tableside discussion with one of the chefs, were presented with 3 trays of bread & salads, meat choices, sauces and condiments, and then following, a dessert of sampling of their killer lemon bars. After a brief conversation with us, the chef even presented us with a post-wedding snack that he whipped-up for us: barbacoa street tacos! OKAY, let's talk about their food. If you love smoked meats, this is the caterer for you. From the brisket & tri tip to ribs and shredded pork, everything was juicy and delicious, wonderful in their perfect smokiness. The poultry options were equally as great, although we all agreed the meat stole the show. The variety of homemade sauces were equally amazing, we especially loved the espresso bbq (WOWZA). Salad choices: something for everyone- we especially liked their vinegar based slaw and potato salad. The pillowy-soft honey butter rolls are to die for-practically dessert on their own. THEN there were the fresh-made lemon bars. Oo la la - they tasted like a mini lemon meringue pie. Too bad none were leftover for our late-night snacking! All tolled, the overall impression O'Dells team gave us for our kids BIG DAY could not be beat. They answered all our questions and were reassuring in describing their delivery & service the day of wedding (a remote location near McCloud). Through conversation, they proved what creative culinary professionals they are, identified the many local business contacts they work with (some we have also contracted) and THAT FOOD! If you are in the neighborhood on a Thursday or Friday for lunch, stop in. They are working on a restaurant across the street, but just be aware that these guys are POP-U-LAR and sell out pretty quickly on their open days. We can't wait to sample their great cuisine again soon, and especially on the big day. You will love it!!
