Delicious bbq chicken plate with macaroni salad, some veggies and rice. Small place but you can eat at a table

I love Hawaiian food. Always interested when I see a new place or find a treasure in my travels. when in Redding this week I asked someone about this spot and she said she and her family go all the time. So i went and the person at the counter was really sweet and helpful. I know it's traditional to have fish in the mac salad, (I think bacalao but lots of these new little spots use tuna), but I don't like it and generally don't eat seafood. So I ordered the katsu with rice and veg (broccoli). It was good. crispy and flavorful. the katsu sauce was decent and i also got the teriyaki sauce and i liked that better. Rice was great and broccoli was cooked perfectly. Price was good. I would go back to try some of the bbq or kahlua pork read more

Really enjoyed this! I had the BBQ mix which had chicken, short ribs, and beef. The meats were barbequed very well. Great flavor without drying out the meat. Also enjoyed the macaroni salad. Staff was friendly. The plate also came with choice of sauces. It was a tasty and filling plate. Good value as well. read more

Niu Hawaiian BBQ - Hawaiian Near Me - Redding, California

My son and I stopped into NIU Hawaiian BBQ and left stuffed, happy, and already thinking about when we'll be back. The vibe inside is simple but inviting with island touches, beach mural, bamboo accents just enough to give you that Hawaiian escape without needing a plane ticket. Now let's talk food: We ordered the Spam Musubi and the BBQ Mix Plate both were absolute winners. The musubi was wrapped perfectly, with just the right balance of rice, spam, and sauce. A perfect starter. The BBQ Mix Plate was no joke. It came LOADED with a mountain of beef, ribs, and chicken all grilled to smoky perfection. The ribs had that beautiful char that gives you a little crisp on the outside while staying tender inside. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the beef was seasoned spot-on. And yes the cold macaroni salad? Honestly hit the spot. Creamy, chilled, and the perfect contrast to all the hot grilled goodness. Portion sizes? Let's just say you better come hungry or plan on taking some home. This is a solid spot for anyone craving big flavors, generous portions, and a little slice of the islands right here on the mainland. read more

And i succumbed to Spam Musabi. One for now and one for tomorrow. Everything tasted fab. Hot fresh utensils and sauces. Happy tummy. Thanks for the guy here tonight 7/11 I didn't get his name but you did me well. Btw clean bathroom too. read more

Niu Hawaiian BBQ - Hawaiian Near Me - Redding, California

Mr. Lee has officially created the perfect blend of Asian-Hawaiian fusion--flavors, magic, and love all on one plate. Finding this gem truly makes it a Merry Christmas for me. Tucked away in beautiful California, this restaurant has been open a long time for a reason--it is genuinely special. If Mr. Lee were on DoorDash, I would have already ordered everything on the menu. The food is magical, the flavors are unforgettable, and the experience feels made with care and heart. I can confidently say you will not be disappointed, and you'll be very happy you came. read more

I've been going to this place since it's opened and it's always good. I've never had any problems here with any other food I've ordered. It's always been cooked well and very flavorful. read more

Across the parking lot from Safeway sits a Niu Hawaiian BBQ joint. Ha Ha cool looking tiki hut vibe to order from and super nice staff. There's a handful of small tables inside if you want to dine in. We tried a couple menu items to go to vet the place out. Kahlua Pork and Chicken Katsu -8 Kahlua Pork was tender and flavorful. The Katsu was decent but not as crispy or flavorful as I've had. The macaroni salad was aight... French Fries - 4 - High quality fries but cooked at too low of temperature leaving them greasy and not crispy. Chicken Combo -7 BBQ chicken was cooked very well but was a little plain. It's all about those sauces to make the meal tasty. Not bad Hawaiian BBQ but I've certainly had better. I bet there's some options with that Kahlua Pork that could make a good bite! read more

We love the chicken katsu and teriyaki beef plates with double mac and one scoop rice. The kalua pig is good too!

Great food, awesome service. Our top food place to go to when we are in Redding. If you've not been it's a must if you like a friendly, clean environment and awesome food read more

If you want to go somewhere different, I definitely recommend Niu Hawaiian. Everything I've had from here is delicious, but my all time favorite menu item is their spam musubi. If you've never had that, the best way I can describe it is sushi, but instead of fish, it's fried spam. read more

The food is always fast and fresh. The Katsu and BBQ mix plates are my favorite. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The convenient location and proximity to coffee and gas makes it a good place for a pit stop. It's a small establishment but tables have always been available. read more

Food and service are amazing! Never had any issues, always a go to for my family. Staff is friendly and restaurant is always clean and tidy.

The food was great, and the option to have smaller plates was really cool. I haven't seen another HBBQ place that does that. Brought my sisters and nephew and had an excellent dinner. read more

Service was great but the food wasn't. I've eaten there whenever I was in Redding and I'm was disappointed with the taste of the food. They gave 2 side order containers of teriyaki sauce and it was too watery. I've never seen teriyaki sauce like that it tasted awful I threw them away. When I walked in customers were there waiting for there order. Restaurant was nice, clean and quiet. I usually eat there but I just got through with my shopping and needed to head back home. Next time I'm in Redding I still plan to go there to eat and hope it doesn't disappoint me again. read more

After a long day of hiking, we were too tired to cook nor dine in anywhere, so we called in for a pickup order. We chose the family meal, which made decision making a lot easier. The family meal ($36.99) comes with rice, macaroni salad, and three choices of meat: katsu chicken, bbq chicken, and short ribs. We also added an order of spam musubi ($4.49) for 2 pieces. The order was ready in 15 minutes and it was a super quick transaction. They also provided plates, utensils and a full bag of condiments. I'm not exaggerating when I say a full bag of hot sauce, soy sauce, katsu and teriyaki sauce. This meal was just enough for a family of four. The meats were a bit skimpy though, but still solid. I definitely needed the katsu sauce to give that extra flavor though. The mac salad was a tad bland, but the rice was soft and fluffy. Overall, the spot isn't quite as good as Ono Hawaiian or L&L Hawaiian, but it's a pretty good option in a city like Redding with not that many food options. read more

Niu Hawaiian BBQ - Family Meal: short ribs, bbq chicken, katsu chicken, rice, and macaroni salad with Spam Musubi. - Hawaiian Near Me - Redding, California

Niu Hawaiian BBQ is another Hawaiian BBQ eatery in Redding. There is a small seating area to enjoy your meal. It's a fast food eatery, so the ambiance is basic. Being from Hawaii, we needed to try this place. For being in Shasta county in Redding, I have to say it's not bad. I'm just used to the Hawaiian BBQ food in Hawaii or in the Bay Area. I ordered the mixed BBQ plate (BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef) which was $15.99 as of 6/2/23. The BBQ beef was a little dry. The portions were little. The marinade wasn't bad, but the overall impression was average. The BBQ chicken was over cooked and dry. The marinaded flavor was ok. The BBQ ribs were better. Not too fatty, marinated flavor 3.5/5. The meat was a little chewy, not tender as I would expect. The Mac salad was good. The rice was prepared perfectly. The added veggies is a bonus. I did not include pics in this review because I do not want reviewers to think every order looks like what I received. Overall, for Redding, Niu (meaning coconut in Hawaiian) Hawaiian BBQ is decent. Give it a try if you want to sample want locals experience in Hawaii, albeit a bit better. read more

Niu's Hawaiian BBQ is where you get bang for your buck. The best thing about this place are the massive portions, which can easily be shared amongst 2 people. The menu items are basically the same as any Hawaiian plate lunch place like L&L. We ordered the chicken combo and kalua pork and BBQ chicken combo. The kalua pork had a nice smoky flavor, but I wish it were less dry. Our favorite was the chicken katsu, which was delicious! The biggest disappointment was the BBQ chicken. It was tough and lacked flavor. We tried the katsu and teriyaki sauce, both were watered down. The mac salad was also mushy and didn't have much flavor either. Given Redding isn't a Mecca for food choices, we might be back. If you're craving Hawaiian BBQ, this will do the trick, but bring a big appetite! read more

A quaint little place across from Safeway. Great tasting food and reasonably priced. Garlic chicken was great, loco moco taste like frozen type burger pattie but was alright, spam musubis and chicken katsu were great too. Staff were awesome and accommodated people up to the last service minute. Came from Maui to take our son to Simpson University. This will be his local spot away from home for the next 3 years. Would recommend to all who like local hawaiian themed food.. read more

The food was really yummy. We were driving from the Bay Area to Portland and just looked for a place to eat. This place did not disappoint! I had kalua pork 5/5, their Mac salad was really good, too! It tasted authentic! My husband had the bbq mix and my daughters had chicken katsu which they all loved. Only thing is the tables were not wiped, but the staff were friendly. read more

I love the food at Niu, but when I ate here on Thursday 10/02, the girl at the register had her whole finger in her mouth, picking her teeth. She proceeded to touch the register, the counter, the "door" into the kitchen, the sauces, the plastic cutlery, and the food as she handed it to customers without washing her hands first. It really made me lose my appetite. As someone who has worked in a kitchen and is ServSafe certified, I understand the dangers of doing something like this and it just turned my stomach. I hope the owners talk to their staff about proper food handling. I really want to be able to eat here again but do not see that as a possibility right now after seeing what I saw. read more

Not a bad spot for a Hawaiian fix! Ordered spam musubis (tasty), bbq and katsu chicken, mixed veggies (cut some of the grease), and kal-bi ribs. Katsu was better than the bbq chicken (somewhat dry!), the ribs were good. My mother-in-law normally doesn't like red meat, but I saw her take seconds of the ribs which was surprising! Friendly staff.... Would come back again next time we're in Redding. read more

Super yummy food, nice, big size portions. Love their drinks selections and love getting food from here with friends!

Tried the chicken katsu and hamburger steak. Mac salad was watery and flavorless. Hamburger steak gravy, no flavor and pattie's wayyyyyyyy too over cooked. Chicken katsu had a weird after taste like the oil was old. read more

Niu Hawaiian BBQ - Menu - Hawaiian Near Me - Redding, California

The food was really good! I used to come here all the time and the service was great. Very helpful and easy going. Flavor was great, what fell flat for me was the portions. I ordered the bbq beef regular. This used to last me two meals because it was filling and great portions. This time around, it was about 60% less food and the price went up. I left still mildly hungry which was highly unusual. This could have been a one time thing. But the severe reduction in portions caught me off guard. Great food and service though! read more

The food quality was really bad. I got a soggy piece of fish, and the chicken was super dry. I don't remember the food being this bad.

I was totally not expecting much from a Hawaiian restaurant in a strip mall in Redding, Ca. But it did not disappoint. The Spam musubi (2 whole ones in am order) was as good as the ones I make. I mean what could go wrong. We got the Hawaiin BBQ meat combo. The short ribs were fabulous...again in comparison to my Asian cooking, it was actually better...I can't believe I admitted that. The beef was ok. And the chicken was actually moist and pretty tasty. The macaroni salad passed with a 3.8 rating. It was very filling! The best part was that my husband went over there to order while I held the fort down at the River Fall beer place next door. He came back in less than 5 minutes as they delivered to Our table at the brew pub! read more
