My son and I stopped into NIU Hawaiian BBQ and left stuffed, happy, and already thinking about when we'll be back. The vibe inside is simple but inviting with island touches, beach mural, bamboo accents just enough to give you that Hawaiian escape without needing a plane ticket. Now let's talk food: We ordered the Spam Musubi and the BBQ Mix Plate both were absolute winners. The musubi was wrapped perfectly, with just the right balance of rice, spam, and sauce. A perfect starter. The BBQ Mix Plate was no joke. It came LOADED with a mountain of beef, ribs, and chicken all grilled to smoky perfection. The ribs had that beautiful char that gives you a little crisp on the outside while staying tender inside. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the beef was seasoned spot-on. And yes the cold macaroni salad? Honestly hit the spot. Creamy, chilled, and the perfect contrast to all the hot grilled goodness. Portion sizes? Let's just say you better come hungry or plan on taking some home. This is a solid spot for anyone craving big flavors, generous portions, and a little slice of the islands right here on the mainland.

First great customer service. Clean store front. Can eat in or carry out. Good size menu. I did the bowl chicken teriyaki with emphasis on more veggies than rice. Cooked to order. And i succumbed to Spam Musabi. One for now and one for tomorrow. Everything tasted fab. Hot fresh utensils and sauces. Happy tummy. Thanks for the guy here tonight 7/11 I didn't get his name but you did me well. Btw clean bathroom too.

Across the parking lot from Safeway sits a Niu Hawaiian BBQ joint. Ha Ha cool looking tiki hut vibe to order from and super nice staff. There's a handful of small tables inside if you want to dine in. We tried a couple menu items to go to vet the place out. Kahlua Pork and Chicken Katsu -8 Kahlua Pork was tender and flavorful. The Katsu was decent but not as crispy or flavorful as I've had. The macaroni salad was aight... French Fries - 4 - High quality fries but cooked at too low of temperature leaving them greasy and not crispy. Chicken Combo -7 BBQ chicken was cooked very well but was a little plain. It's all about those sauces to make the meal tasty. Not bad Hawaiian BBQ but I've certainly had better. I bet there's some options with that Kahlua Pork that could make a good bite!

A quaint little place across from Safeway. Great tasting food and reasonably priced. Garlic chicken was great, loco moco taste like frozen type burger pattie but was alright, spam musubis and chicken katsu were great too. Staff were awesome and accommodated people up to the last service minute. Came from Maui to take our son to Simpson University. This will be his local spot away from home for the next 3 years. Would recommend to all who like local hawaiian themed food..

Ask the Community - Niu Hawaiian BBQ

Does Niu have Hawaiian Lau Lau?

We unfortunately do not have Lau Lau. We just don't have the equipment or room needed to cook it. We do however have the Kalua Pork which, although different, is also pulled pork if that's what you're looking for.

    Sorry we don't have it?

Yes we do.. it's in the safway parking lot next to Lowe's on east Cypress Ave.

    Do they have pineapple gravy?

They have pineapple fried rice but I didn't see pineapple gravy.

I understand maybe they are understaff since it's a small family business, but it did affect the whole dining experience. I had the boat noodle, broth is rich with good flavor. My husband had pho, he liked it. The lemon pepper wings were lemony, I wish it would be more peppery. I thought it would be the dry lemon pepper seasoning. The hosts were congenial and friendly and took our orders confidently and quickly. My wife and daughters ordered poke bowls and I ordered their Ramen. The Poke bowls were pretty good (in comparison with the Poke spots we have in Sac), and the ladies cleaned their bowls completely. There are three types of Ramen bowls available (Spam, Miso and Seafood), and I selected the Seafood option. It was a standard mix of shrimp, imitation crab, and scallops with fish cake, green onions and seaweed with a miso-like broth. The bowl was pretty solid, the broth could use a bit more flavor. So all in all, it was a solid meal for us. I would give the poke bowls a solid B, and the Ramen bowl a B-. Poke Land is a good place to have Poke or Ramen if you're in Redding. I surmise that there are better Ramen options within the Japanese restaurants around town, maybe better Poke options too. However, this is a good place that does both.

We were seated along the large window overlooking patio seating and the Sacramento River. The views are truly lovely. Our server, MJ greeted us kindly and took our beverage order. I ordered a glass of their House White, which was a 2022 California Chardonnay and was quite good. My partner ordered an iced tea. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and the Filet, both cooked medium. Our food arrived approximately 30 minutes after ordering. The quality of the beef here was absolutely top notch. Prime beef for sure. This was the best steak I have enjoyed in Shasta County in over 10 years. Absolutely cooked to perfection. My partner's filet was massive. This had to be at least a 20 ounce filet and he enjoyed every morsel. The sides accompanying our mains, mashed potatoes and carrots for him and mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts for me, were fair to good, but not great. The carrots were raw. As in, not only very crunchy but cold all the way through. Mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but not nearly warm enough. These spuds sat on a plate until the beef arrived. The restaurant was very kind in offering us a complimentary slice of cheesecake since we were celebrating an anniversary. The cheesecake was dense and rich and accompanied by berry sauce and caramel sauce, both of which were lovely. Freshly piped whipped cream and mixed berries and powdered sugar on the dessert plate made for a very lovely presentation, indeed, and was most appreciated. Service the entire meal was excellent. Price for our meals: $135 + $27 gratuity for a total of $162. We have paid nearly as much for a steak dinner elsewhere in Shasta County for a meal that came nowhere close to this. Worth. Every. That said, they looked absolutely delicious and it's easy to see why this spot is popular for wings. Instead, we tried the taco, which was very saucy but still overall good. The fries were amazing, definitely a highlight of the meal! I also had the teriyaki chicken. The sauce was a bit too strong for my taste, but pairing it with the coleslaw helped balance the flavor nicely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5.
