I was in Cottonwood at the post office just nearby and I saw this Roadrunner grill. I could use some food right about now so in I go. I get a quesadilla and an order of fries to go. I live nearby in Red Bluff, so I'll just wait to eat when I get home. The food is still hot enough, not fresh outta the kitchen hot, but that's what you get with to go orders. The quesadilla was very tasty and the tortilla wasn't soggy. I had chicken, jalapenos and cheese and veggies. The fries were good too. The menu at the Roadrunner seemed to be sort slanted towards the Mexican food side, but not like a full on Mexican restaurant though. After my wife and a friend of hers went to Roadrunner several weeks ago and had a good lunch, wife and I decided to drive down and give it a go. Quite disappointing. Service was extremely slow. Young "woman" (mid to late teen) working the front counter. Took about 25 minutes for our lunch to arrive. No condiments at the table or at the counter but had to be brought to the table after our request. This took about 7-8 minutes and came in little to-go tubs. Onion rings were overcooked; fried mushrooms were okay. Entrees we're so-so, but not worth the wait. There were 8 customers in the restaurant. The focus did not seem to be on service but instead pounding a mail into the wall to hang a picture (that mail probably took 3 minutes and 50 strikes with a hammer). Another employee, male, also likely late teens seemed to be wandering around a lot but unfortunately no one had any sense of urgency and things took entirely too long. I have been a customer since they started in a food truck. The quality & service is always consistent. The restaurant is always clean and the ambiance is comforting. Wow. So on a drive to Eugene. Had to stop to charge car. Looked it up on yelp. Directions took me to a an area and block straight out of deliverance. The tacos were crazy amazing and the kids working there were really cool. Had the Cali taco with garlic fries, chicken and Mango, and steak and raspberry sauce. The young man that was holding down the front counter when we entered didn't bother to look up or acknowledge our presence. Since it was out fist time there, we took our time perusing the menu, but there was no one behind us. He was audibly and visibly annoyed. We placed our order - a Roadrunner salad and a quesadilla with grilled steak. We waited about 20 minutes for our order to arrive. It was taken to the wrong table (there were 6 people in the restaurant - 2 already had their food, so he had a 50/50 shot and missed). The salad was plentiful, but the mandarins were passed their point of being edible. They should have been thrown away a week ago. The bagged lettuce also was passed its prime. Their only saving grace was the young woman that came to relieve the young man, she was pleasant and knowledgeable. Perhaps if we had started with her, our experience would have been exponentially better. The place is fairly clean, but is cluttered upon entry with tchotchkes for sale. I used the restroom to wash my hands of the quesadilla grease (it was also a huge portion, but covered in grease or butter or perhaps a combination of both). I would have liked to have known if there were any accoutrements that I could have added to the quesadilla, but I didn't want to put the cashier out - it was clear he did not want to assist us. Overall, I have no idea how the place has such great reviews - between the bad food and the even worse service, it's not a place I'd recommend. read more

This place started out as a food service truck and now has a restaurant location. I'm sad to say I never had the opportunity to eat from the truck but I'm so glad they now have a restaurant in Cottonwood. Their restaurant location is on front street and not Olive st(I think Olive st was the truck location). I have never been more impressed with the food then I was today when I first eat there. I got a few tacos but my favorite was the buffalo chicken taco. It sounded so different that I almost didnt get it but man I'm I glad I did. I'm telling everyone about this place and can't wait to go back and try more new taco flavors. Although I haven't tried the fish and chip they did look amazing. While the roadrunner burrito was good, all 6 of my groups water glasses had black ink(?) on the inside of the cup that would wipe off with your finger. This review for the Shasta Lake City location. So the set up is a little spartan. You order at the counter and go sit down. The food comes out in boxes not plates. But dang that food is good! And extra points for the creativity. Never have I ever seen a Steak Diane taco but I saw it and ate it here and it was great. Never fear, they have more traditional fillings as well. The Chile Lime Steak was a standout. The shells are soft but sturdy. We also tried a wrap and were not disappointed. Do not miss the onion rings. Perfectly crisp and hot to boot. So yeah, the setup is spartan but the food is great and with food this creative and tasty they could put it on china plates with silverware and glasses and charge a lot but what's the point. If you want a place with delicious and unique tacos, fresh battered and fried fish, mushrooms or zucchini, or amazing garlic fries... this is your place! It's also extremely family friendly. My kids run around and play on the arcades and draw on the chalk wall. There is also a private patio area. I crave the Diane Taco and their chipotle shrimp taco. Just so good.
