My wife and I both really love good fish and chips. We were spending 4 or 5 hours in Redding on Friday and I looked up seafood in Redding for lunch as we live up in the town of Mt. Shasta. Lighthouse was one of the options that showed up, menu looked good so we drove over. What a pleasant surprise we found. Both order 3 pc fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder. Both got 4 pieces of fish which were crispy and fantastic. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are down in Redding in the future. This place has one hell of a bang for the buck That is if you get the cook who knows how to do tempura batter correctly because I've been here twice and the first time the batter was not up to snuff as it was the second time. The french fries are the run-of-the-mill wavy cut and generous in portion. It wouldn't take much to liven those up with some Panko and spices but this place is no-frills. By the time you're done eating you feel you've have your fried food quota for the year but it was a good time getting there. Plenty of sauce variety for your dipping pleasure including ranch from the back if you ask for it. The only real detractor is the ambience which could really use an upgrade. It looks like they scored on the refuse from an 80s fast food joint remodel but the core of 50's plus, bargain hunting clientele don't seem to mind. read more

My boyfriend and I like to eat here every week practically. They're generous with their servings. The fish is Alaskan Pollock (which is similar to Cod)... breaks apart with your hands, is white and has no bones; it also has a nice light flavor. The only reason I'm not giving a 5-stAr rating is because out of 9, I had one order (& only one piece) that was over-cooked. I'm a bit disappointed in this place tonight. I know place have off days but the girl taking the order told me I couldn't get 1 piece fish and 1 piece chicken. When I call and place my order with the men, they always do it. I know I can add a piece of chicken for an extra price. Instead I had to pay for the 2 piece fish and 2 piece chicken but let me tell you, the chicken tenders are usually real good tenders. They were little and smaller than the palm of my hand. Now the fish, they always throw in extra which is great but it was soggy in the middle and burnt on the ends. I had to take the batter off. The fries were still great. When we went to pick up, the girl was rude again. Maybe just not a customer service person? All of the basics are offered, including fish and chips, prawns and chips, etc. Wife and I stopped in for lunch and had clam chowder and a couple of side salads. You order at the counter and the staff brings your food to the table when it's ready. Portions were excellent, the chowder was hot and creamy, and the salads were fresh. Love that they don't skimp on the salad dressing. The Lighthouse is far better than their look-a-like in Anderson. Do not bother going there. The Lighthouse on the other hand, is great. The joke in town is if you order 1 piece of fish you get 2 but pay for one or if you order a 2 piece you get 3 but pay for 2 etc. I thoroughly enjoy their calamar. Insomuch the calamar it is processed into a steak, then sliced, they have a great batter for it and cook it perfectly. Honestly I have not had anything that was bad other than an occasional piece of fish what is very fishy and appeared to not be cleaned properly. Lots of silver skin and a bloodline which is fishy. That happens at all fish houses but this place generally has great fish. I don't like fish but on occasion i have a craving for it and this is where I go to fulfill the craving. This place is surprisingly good, I would say much better than a lot of "fish and chips" (reads: tourist traps) place on SoCal beaches. Tried this place out on my way back from a pacific coast road trip, and among all the fish and chips place I tried in this trip, this place is maybe only second to a restaurant on coastal Washington in a actual fishing village that has access to out of water fresh crabs and prawns. The clam strips here are especially good. Don't let the esthetics fool you. It's crunchy on the outside and chewy umami on the inside. Definitely my favorite. read more

We recently tried this place for the first time when our first choice was closed due to "staffing issues." Now, I am a huge fan. The food was delicious, and freshly prepared. The service was efficient and friendly. The place was clean and nicely decorated. They had plenty of easily accessible condiments (ketchup, cocktail sauce, tarter sauces, etc...). We tried this place for the first time today. It's literally 2 mins from our home making it a grate location. We were in the mood for fish and chips but didn't want to go into a sit down restaurant so we gave it a shot. It was so delicious!! Since this is seemingly one of the few fish and chips places in Redding, I'm guessing the people here were just craving fish and chips and had no choice but to come here. They offered light battered fish and chips, so I opted to try those. I also ordered the pint sized clam chowder. The clam chowder was like 85% soup and potatoes and 15% clam. I could barely taste or find any clam. For such a huge portion, I was greatly disappointed. The fish and chips batter was salty enough that I didn't need any sauce to dip the fish in (they have tartar and cocktail sauces). The amount of batter for light battered fish and chips was good. I can't imagine how much batter they put for regular fish and chips. The fish wasn't that fresh and the fish they used was thin. But they did add an extra fish even though I ordered a 2 piece fish and chips. As for the crinkle cut fries, I doubt they're as fresh as in n out fries, but at least they were crispy. The coleslaw was crunchy and good. Overall, I wasn't that impressed. I've had better fish and chips and clam chowder. read more

Although this place has been there for 20+ years my wife and I have only recently discovered it. While it is nothing fancy the food is simply delicious. Food portions are huge and everything appeared fresh. Some of the best clam chowder outside of San Francisco. Friendly staff in a clean environment good selection. Reasonably priced.
