My girlfriend and I are visiting my parents here in Redding, and we all wanted go to DeVINE for dinner at the end of the week. This place did not disappoint! It was absolutely amazing. Phenomenal service and an overall great time. Our Assistant Manager, as well as our Waiter, Peter was fantastic the entire evening! We made reservations to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. We were seated next to the window which provided a fabulous view. Our waiter was extremely gracious and wished us a happy anniversary. I wanted to have a nice dinner for my birthday, and chose DeVine, and I'm very happy I did. The restaurant is beautiful, with a fabulous view, comfortable seating and a unique menu. Our server was attentive, but when we made it clear we wanted a leisurely meal, he gave us space, yet remained attentive. A true professional! We enjoyed a couple appetizers, truffle bread and wild mushroom arancini, which were delicious. For dinner my husband ordered the seared scallops, which are on the salad menu but definitely work as a main dish, my son had the Spezzatino (braised pork), and I ordered the special which was was pistachio crusted halibut on risotto. As a family, we love to trade bites, so we all tasted each other's dishes, and I'm here to say EVERYTHING was delicious and perfectly cooked. Finally, and for me this is no small thing I had quite a bit leftover, and our server offered to box it for me. He did not jus scrape it into a box, but clearly took the halibut off, spooned the risotto into the box then replaced the halibut on top, so my leftovers looked as appetizing as when he served the meal. Tonight my wife and about 24 of our closest friends went to celebrate our friends victory against cancer and fighting through that seasonal process and we chose Devine for our occasion. It was my first time there and honestly wasn't sure what to expect...I'll start with atmosphere, it was elegant yet artistic and the best part to their atmosphere is having an outside patio space over looking the beautiful Sacramento River with gorgeous westerly views of our surrounding mountain scape. The service in our experience was impeccable considering there was 20 plus people at our table with split bills, talk about organize chaos! Big kudos to Peter who managed that extremely well and was a pleasure for hosting our large group. He was very knowledgeable specific and explained the menu in detail which I can appreciate considering it was our first time there now let's get down to why you're reading this review in the first place their food. Being of Italian decent and having a very high standard of Italian food, I was very impressed personally speaking. We orders an appetizer which was DEVINE TRUFFLE BREAD, what a perfect combo when you order a sauce based dish. For my main dish I ordered the BUCATINI ALLA DIAVOLA, it's a spicy vodka sauce with shrimp and chicken, phenomenal! Very favorable! My wife ordered the PAPPARDELLE AL BOLOGNESE which in my opinion, out of the two dishes we ordered I'd go Bolognese for sure next time. The sauce was very well flavored and it reminded me of eating my grandmothers sauce, nostalgia wins for me. All in all, I highly recommend Devine as it brought a well balanced experience to us, not only in food but in service and ambience. Tried Devine for the first time. Had a great experience and delicious food. The bolognese is a classic and you can't go wrong with it. They were out of the goat shank and had lamb instead. All in all the food was good. The specialty cocktails were very creative especially the Lemon Meringue Martini. My only comment would be that I was expecting the cocktail to be less bitter and more on the sweet side. The Cucumber Basil Margarita was delicious. The service was quick and friendly. Our server did an amazing job checking in on us and answering all of our questions. I would comeback. We don't have enough fine dining experiences in Redding. read more

The fact that the staff is knowledgeable makes the experience key. We did go on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy, but I'm sure you'd probably want to make reservations. Picture a perfect spring evening at what is one of the most scenic spots in town. Surprisingly empty for a Friday. Simple order. Chefs plate and past with meat sauce. The chef and I apparently have wildly different ides about what a meat and cheese platter as an appetizer should look like. And as an eater what I expect for that price. Totally phoned in. The "fresh" handmade pasta wasn't and I've had better sauce from a box the had helper in the name. The bar was good and I didn't have any issue with staff , until someone decided to hall the garbage out through the dinning room. At least the place was empty I left to sad to be upset. What an incredible addition to Redding! I loved my experience today with Thomas as our Server. We met Paul too and there was a gentlemen who brought me Sauternes who was wonderful, I forgot his name but he was wearing all black and a short sleeve polo. All of these guys seem like Hospitality Legends. Thank you for: the handshakes, the prompt service and for making me and my guest feel completely at home. Preface: I am NOT a Food Critic. I know what great food is supposed to look like and taste like. That being said, my favorite Chocolate is Hersheys, favorite Beer is Corona, and my favorite meal is a PB&J with Sour Cream and Onion Chips. Most small children have better developed palates than me. I will struggle in being able to describe the nuances, elegance or complexity of dishes in the soon-to-be mentioned food; this is because I have the palate of a five year old. No disrespect to the food or Culinary Team if I dont capture each dishes' uniqueness Food: Arancini filled with wild mushroom risotto and grana padano; great but not quite for me. Caesar Salad was to my liking. I especially liked the croutons, very light. I wouldnt be surprised if its a house made bread. We got the foccacia, it is housemade and came hot, right out of the oven. The Pesto Chicken Pasta was wonderful, I prefer Ragu Bolognese but was going for something different. If you like pesto, its a must-have. Their Steak, sourced from the Owner's Local Ranch, is thinly sliced and pounded, resting atop a pomme puree (creamy mashed potatotes.). It is topped with arugula, a handful of cherry tomatoes and a lemon vinaigrette. This dish was insanely good. I ordered it medium because my guest likes medium rare and forgive me; im a bad, bad boy. I do my steak well done. I would've devoured it if I ate it at a 'ruined' temperature but I wanted my guest to be able to enjoy. Dessert: tiramisu, this was fine and elegant. It had little espresso gel on top, tiny little spheres and chocolate shavings. Dessert was fine but I only enjoy a bite or so. Drinks: my buddy got a stunning cocktail and I got Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. I really wanted Nickel and Nickel's Dolce for dessert which is a botrytis wine but they didn't have it. They offered the next best think which was a Sauternes. I love Sauternes but the patriot in me makes me want to buy domestic wines. Nickel is from California and doesnt have the French price tag. Overall: Super elegant and classy, like Ron Burgundy classy. I love this place already. Its a great place for a first date, its a great place to go to keep a relationship exciting and a wonderful place to celebrate Anniversaries, Birthdays or other Special Occasions. This is a place to feel special after an accomplishment or graduation and it felt non-judgy. I really liked it. Shout out to Jesus, the Head Chef. He came out after hearing it was our first experience and gave a personal touch. Decor is quite nice and so is the view. The staff was attentive and the appetizers were delicious (Truffle bread & Calimari), that was where it ended. My Lemon Drop was probably the worst I've ever had. We had 6 people in our party (celebrating an 80th birthday) and we all received our meals EXCEPT the birthday boy. His goat was late and DRY! My husband and I had the chicken pesto pasta and it was tough and not enjoyable flavor. We tried tiramiso, pannacota and canoli for dessert. The canoli was delicious. I ordered the chicken it tasted precooked and microwaved also on top of watery potatoes. Very expensive for what you get wish we would have gone to Jacks. Valentine's Day Evening, the wife and I were very excited to try the newest restaurant in Redding. We were skeptical because of the disaster View 202had become but still gave it a try. 6:30 reservation, got there a little early so had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Ambience is very nice. Pretty much the same as the old View 202 with a few upgrades. New upholstery for the booths, new tables, Fresh paint job and new light fixtures through out and a unique mirrored back wall. Felt just like walking into View 202 but after a facelift. We got to our table and the host stated they were out of Cocktails menus and to just ask the server what the signature cocktails are. We let her know that we do not want an entire cocktail list verbally communicated to us and would like a menu as soon as one comes available please. 7 minutes later we got a menu. Only have been open a week, with a half full dining room and out of menus. Strike 1. First round of cocktails: I ordered "The M.E" $16, a sort of jazzed up old fashioned. It was great! Well balanced, great flavors, and not overly sweet like some places old fashioned cocktails. My wife ordered the Sirene Spritz $13. A floral and Citrusy Aperol Spritz. It was a little too heavy on the Orange flavor for her liking but I thought it was light, flavorful and delicious. If you like Aperol Spritz it's definitely worth a try. Appetizers: I ordered the Black Mussels $19. Mussels in a spicy tomato broth with grilled bread. This dish was fantastic! My favorite thing of the night. Mussels were steamed perfectly and tomato broth was light and fragrant. Not much spice though to be called a spicy tomato sauce. However still delicious! The wife ordered the local sourdough crostini $15. Grilled sourdough with burrata, tomato's, and micro greens. My wife loved it, mild flavors, and very simple. However it did fall a bit flat. Needed a balsamic drizzle or even some flaked salt to bring all the flavors together. It was good, just missing something to seal the deal. Also pretty stingy on the amount of burrata. Second Round of Cocktails: I ordered the Orange Marmalade Sorbet Old Fashioned $16. An old fashioned with a scoop of Tangerine sorbet in the glass. My god this drink was HORRENDOUS. WORST COCKTAIL IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE AT A DINING ESTABLISHMENT. The drink was warm, bitter, and unbalanced. Gave the drink a vigorous stir to melt the sorbet to cool down the drink and hopefully make it taste better but no. The tangerine sorbet was disgusting and the whole cocktail tasted like a big glass of Orange DayQuil Cough syrup. Strike 2. The wife ordered a blackberry lemon drop $14 as none of the signature cocktails really sounded good to her. Drink was light and refreshing and well done. So shoutout to the bartender for a solid traditional style cocktail! Entrees: I ordered the Branzino $42. Seared Branzino with Saffron Risotto, Tomato's, and arugula salad. Branzino is one of my favorite fish and if it's on a menu I usually order it. However this dish was a COMPLETE fail. First things first I was expecting a filet of branzino with a nice crispy skin, but no it's a whole fish; head, tail and all stuffed with shallots and lemon. Not a problem for me as I eat fish like that often but wasn't expected and should be mentioned in the menu description or the servers should let guest know when they order. Moving on, The fish: skin was wet and soggy, not crispy as it should be, there wasn't an ounce of seasoning just the over powering flavor of undercooked shallots. The fish itself was cooked very well, moist, light, and great. Just not an ounce of flavor which made it uneatable. The Risotto: this is where things were really bad, I love a good risotto but this was TERRIBLE. THE RICE WAS COMPLETELY UNDERCOOKED. It was damn near raw rice. Crunchy like eating salted peanuts on an airplane. Flavor was decent but couldn't get past the crunchy rice. I let the server know about the issues with the Branzino dish and he kindly removed it from our bill. Strike 3. The wife ordered the Spezzatino $32. Braised pork with tomato sauce and mixed vegetables served over polenta. She loved it. Polenta was cooked perfectly, pork was tender, tomato sauce was light and fragrant. However the vegetables were hit and miss. The inconsistency of size of the carrots lead to some pieces to be complete mush, some cooked well, and some being as hard as biting into a raw carrot. Knife skills need to be worked on in the kitchen to maintain consistency. We did not stay for dessert. Total bill after the comped Branzino dish was $124. So pretty good prices which is nice as everything was hit or miss. Overall experience is mediocre. The ambience is nice, very romantic for a date night dinner. Service was good, but the food and drinks are hit or miss. Will probably try it one more time in a few months once they've established a good routine and worked out the kinks of newly opening. read more

We had a reservation for a group of nine for a birthday party and the evening could not have been better. We were greeted right away by a friendly hostess and seated promptly. Our waiter was excellent and really contributed so much to making the evening wonderful. We ordered appetizers and each ordered dinner. Everyone was happy with their food choices. The service was the best I have ever had in Redding! I would highly recommend giving DeVine a try. It's obvious the word has gotten out because it was very busy-good idea to make a reservation. Sooo, first time at the new place. We ordered the wild mushroom arancini which was lacking in flavor - needed salt, kind of tasteless with a burnt flavor. I've had arancini in Italy and this was way different. We also ordered the Black mussels all'Arrabbiata, I think this was the best tasting part of our meal, spiciness was nice, not overly spicy and the mussels were cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the beef tagliata medium rare. She thought it was tasty. I had the goat shank, it was tender but lacking in flavor, kind of dry, and needed more seasoning. I thought it could use some of the braising liquid with it. The couscous was cold along with the vegetables. The biggest bummer - we like to have our appetizers and a cocktails before or main course, but they brought out our main courses while we were still eating the appetizers. So we had to try and juggle everything on the table and our main courses sat on the side while we finished the appetizer. Not cool. Amateur. We usually avoid ordering our mains until we're done with our appetizer, but we thought since this was an upscale restaurant, we wouldn't have to worry about them brining things all at once. The experience made us feel rushed. Our server was not the one who brought out the entrees, it was a food runner, so can't blame the server. Our server was very attentive, great service besides the timing of the food being brought out. Also, a pet peeve of mine - just put salt and pepper on table. It costs almost nothing and then people don't have to ask for it if they feel the food is under seasoned. Any place that doesn't provide it and makes you ask, just seems pretentious to me. I don't like my food overly salty, but I've been to very high end restaurants that don't police my salt intake, and that's how I prefer it. ;) Ambiance ok. Food was meh. First off this is NOT an Italian restaurant. Then the food was good but not combined well. 4 Scallops on top of a dollop of mashed potatoes and 2 huge handfuls of arugula. Not a good combo. Fish and rice, cosmos or polenta would have been Italian. Steak on top of a thin layer of mashed potatoes with a handful of arugula not Italian. Very bland dessert. Tara masou, cannolis , and some sort of ice cream , maybe pie , i'm don't remember very boring , nothing spectacular , you can get tiramisu , anywhere and cannolis , you could make with your eyes closed , not very italian. On top of that, they're trying to be some fancy Dancy restaurant and they're not, you're just a regular restaurant charging overpriced meals from a place that closed down, 202 view, and they're no better if you're looking for a really good restaurant with a nice variety and some really good. My husband and I were there last week and had dinner with the short ribs, mussels and scallops salad. The food itself was wonderful and the wait staff very attentive, professional and courteous. I only gave three stars because to tell you the truth, the restaurant was so noisy like a cafeteria; all of the noise barriers that View 202 had in their prior were taken out, so it was very loud. There was no music while we were dining. Also, it was very brightly lit inside -too bright. I feel like a nice dinner house should dim the lights. Also, the bar is no longer a separate place to enjoy a cocktail before dinner - it's open into the restaurant. I'll stick to Market Street... probably won't be back here again. I like to support local business. I visited DeVine restaurant on a Tuesday evening with a party of six. Nice looking place! After being seated, we ordered drinks. 35 minutes later--yes, 35 minutes later, we got two drinks, then, finally, my beer came out last (hardest to make, we joked). The bar was not busy. The server apologized, saying "there was only one bartender." Alas, the mixed drinks were not well blended and one almost undrinkable. Ugh! Bread and oil was great. Enjoyed the meatballs (table favorite) and calamari (nice, light batter and good fry crunch). Short ribs were excellent. The flank steak presentation was a pile of greens atop the steak--not very pleasing to the eye. The steak was very thin and not a good portion. But, tasted okay, albeit salty. The chicken pesto pasta was over sauced and salty. I never saw a floor manager come by or monitor the slow service. Unfortunate. Might try again sometime later. read more

Sunday brunch, regular menu not available. Party of seven. Menu single sheet of paper. No description of the dishes. Most of us ordered 2 items from the "unlimited list " for 25$. Food arrived in a satisfactory time. Steak and eggs was the only item eaten without complaint. It was soon abundantly clear that the food was all pre cooked then assembled and microwaved to order. My eggs Benedict had a hard cooked poached egg on top of a piece of wrinkled up over cooked mystery meat on top of a half and English muffin. There was about a tablespoon of hollandaise over it all." The muffin was rubbery and impossible to cut. Microwaved! But it was cold. One person took one bite of her Avocado toast and decided she wasn't hungry. I could go on and describe the failure of each dish, but this is long enough. read more

Took wife for birthday day dinner. Was horrible! I ordered goat shan. Definitely was not goat shank. More like roast that was so over cooked. I have never sent back anything in my life but I couldn't swallow it down. My second plate was ok for two bites then couldn't swallow it down. Thank goodness for a dog that doesn't mind. My wife ordered short rips. Never seen a short rip on a round bone. They are always on a flat bone so they are selling a beef shank not short rib. I do not recommend this restaurant cause they lie about what's on menu. Watch out the branzino may be tilapia. Stay away. So sad after spending $250 for 2 people read more

I ordered the Seared Scallops and the Calamari Fritto. I was served three warm, not hot, scallops at an extortionate cost of $10.67/scallop. The Calamari Fritto had too much batter and was soggy and again warm not hot. My daughter ordered Pollo Alla Toscana... it appeared to be a half of a breast with two broccolini spears and a paper thin slice of melted cheese. The whole dish would have fit comfortably on a bread plate - it was completely lost on the dinner plate. Our wait staff was wonderful, but had to apologize profusely for the meals. Unfortunately, the ambiance is also lacking - it is too bright and sterile. Very disappointing. I guess our hunt for a fine dining restaurant continues. read more

I was a bit skeptical about trying a new restaurant right after it opens but the wife and I decided to give DeVine a try for a late Valentine's Day dinner. The hostess greeted us and was very friendly as she took us to our table. Our server Tara was also very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu as well. I ordered a beer and the wife ordered an Empress martini that was amazing! The bartender Matthew came over and explained how the gin was infused with açaí which explained the purple color. We ordered the focaccia bread with the dipping sauce that was awesome. The wife ordered the Caesar salad with chicken that she enjoyed while I ordered the Pappardelle Frutti De Mare with fresh pasta which was delicious. No room for dessert this time but we'll definitely try some the next time through. We'll definitely be back soon. The busboy was very attentive as well. Cheers! read more

I had dinner here on a beautiful Saturday evening with a small group of friends. We requested an outside table since the ac was pumped up indoors. Our service was meticulous and very friendly. When the weather became chilly a heater was brought to our table. Cocktail menu was interesting and we all were delighted with our choices. There was no bread service unless you ordered it and that was $5. Salt and pepper are brought to your table--salt in a tiny bowl and a pepper grinder that is taken away after sever uses it. I ordered the goat shank. It was tasty but just roasted with no sauce and served with couscous and baby carrots. Nothing to write home about and at $42 that's expensive! None of the others thought much of their dinners either. Wine selections were good but the pour as always is too small for the price. This restaurant is not going to the top of my list. IMO the portions are small to encourage the order/purchase of bread, appetizers and dessert. read more
