Not quite ready for a bump up to 5* but holy moly has View 202 stepped it up. Our server, I believe her name was Bernice, was fantastic - 5* {especially for putting up with us!}. She was prompt, present and even more importantly she remembered me from a previous visit which was a nice touch. Dinner was fantastic - 5* ... take note View 202 you finally have a Chef who is on the verge of completely turning View 202 around - keep him! The flavor profiles were excellent on every single dish. Keep up the excellent improvement in both service and food and this will soon again be a 5* restaurant. I'm strongly suspicious of the 1-2* reviews here with no check-in and/or photos which is a shame. This restaurant deserves another chance to be the restaurant it has the potential to be! read more

What a nice surprise! Great food, great people. Our waiter Josh was fun, attentive and very helpful. The bartender Emily is a master at margaritas and fun to talk to. The food is so good!! I had the blackened salmon with risotto and spinach and he had the Sea Bass with fingerling potatoes and mashed potatoes. I was so happy with all the wonderful flavors and the bread with pesto sauce (I was eating the leftovers all throughout the night)! It was so good that we went back the next day for brunch. I had the breakfast BLT and he had the French toast, both come with potatoes. Thee ONLY complaint for both days is that the potatoes weren't cooked all the way through on any of the meals that we had with potatoes including the mashed potatoes. However I'm still giving a 5 star review for all the deliciousness especially the bread!! First enjoyed the ambiance and dining here a few months ago. Have now been back on multiple occasions to sit on the patio, take in the beauty of the view looking out over the Sacramento River, and to savor a lovely glass of wine with selections from a varied menu. Consistently excellent appetizers / meals with attentive service by the waitstaff. We had the pleasure of meeting and talking with the General Manager, Katie, during our most recent visit. Highly impressed by her professionalism and desire to provide an even higher level of service. She spent time telling us about their new special events that sound great. Highly recommended whether you are a resident of Redding or just passing through, this is one place that you will come back to time and again because of the consistently excellent food and service. We have been going to view 202 over the past few months. Food is alway good, however it is not the cleanest place, dirty windows, tables are not the cleanest but the main factor as why we will not return is the poor service Having to wait 10 minutes at 5:30pm on a Saturday night for a table when hardly anyone is in the restaurant seems odd Having to hunt down our server after we finished our meal to get our check and pay took 20 minutes, unacceptable for a "high end " restaurant. It appears they are dealing with a staffing issue like everywhere else. read more

They just reopened amongst this Covid19 pandemic and my husband and I came in for drinks and food. The hostess Mackenzie was really nice and we were seated quickly. The food was delicious and the server was very friendly. There were a few kinks which I felt was to be expected, since they just opened back up and had a limited menu. I expect this with every restaurant in their beginning stages of reopening. The manager on staff, Brandon, took great care of us however and we left happy and excited to come back again. Came in tonight for my sons 18th birthday dinner, and I have to tell you...service was absolutely atrocious. I thought for a minute that you were just short staffed...but it seemed like there were a dozen or more staff constantly wandering around. Had to ask three times for plates, silverware, and napkins AFTER our cheese and chef's boards came out. Drinks came out sporadically, and not together. I asked no less than four times for bread and that oil/garlic dip...was told a fresh batch was in the oven...but we never had any bread at our table, like every other table did. We were given water after we asked, but never refilled, and never brought us a carafe like every other table had. The person who actually took our order didn't even come back to the table until the plates were being cleared. When they did, we asked for some boxes to go...and 10 minutes later we had to ask a completely different person for them again. On a brighter note...the food quality was wonderful...so I can't just rant on about how absolutely lousy everything else was. I'm sorry, but for a nearly $300 meal...the little things in your restaurant really need to be improved. I still left a 10% tip, which I absolutely should not have, solely because the food was cooked properly. I'll be voting with my wallet going forward and not returning to your restaurant. The ambiance, view and service were all excellent: we had good cocktails and wine. The quality of the food did not match the rest. We had two different steaks, both cuts were not a good quality, one was overcooked (medium well instead of medium rare) the other under (cold and red instead of medium rare). They did re-fire the underdone steak. Neither steak was tender, even though one was supposed to be a filet, and neither had much seasoning so wouldn't recommend those. We both had salads. It was hard to tell if the Caesar salad had dressing since it didn't have any noticeable flavor. The calamari appetizer was good though, breaded with masa and two great sauces on top. Food was great. Well what we actually got. Which was two appetizers. 1 round of drinks we asked for multiples. They completely forgot about us. We had to ask for our check and leave early! New management+ new chefs= New Restaurant! I was told this was a great place for drinks, maybe apps but not the main meal. After sitting on the covered patio watching the rain surrounded by heaters and fire pit we decided to stay for dinner. I'm pretty picky, if you look at my reviews of most restaurants in Redding I'm not kind. This place is what I expect in SoCal where I'm from. I had the Cajun Salmon and ordered it medium rare (9x our of 10 people overcook salmon), it actually came medium rare with the few minutes of carry over cooking it was perfect. Wife had the house made ravioli's, great flavor. My personal favorite, they have blue cheese olives for my martini (very hard to find in Redding). We went back on Sunday for brunch because we could bring our dog on the patio. Donut holes as an app, awesome. Burger was unbelievable (I've added a picture). Wife had the Benedict, not here normal breakfast but she loved it. Now here is where I give away that I'm a food buyer for a living, bacon is 10 count slice= 1.6oz per slice, most restaurants use a 18 count=.88oz slice. French Fries are a shoestring coated fry, the coating keep them crispy and flavor full even when they're no longer hot. All this means is they're spending a lot of money on their ingredients. We placed our order, appetizer, which took a while, and a bottle of wine. No ice bucket, just left on the table. We ordered filet, at premium price, and we were never asked about soup or a salad etc....The steak was very small and the meal was cold. Our waitress only came to our table one time. By the end of our meal the sun was so bad in my eyes, I had to hold a napkin over my face. It would of been nice if they would have offered us a different seat. The service was not up to par. Not sure why so many people are complaining about this place. My parents and my husband and I (and our sleepy 7-month-old son) had lunch here on Sunday. We were seated right away, switched tables as my son fell asleep and no problem doing this whatsoever! We all ordered diff menu items from pasta to sandwich to salad to chicken... ALL WERE AMAZING... WE ALL ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Our waitress was phenomenal and the service was VERY quick and hospitable. The views were WONDERFUL!! The Manager even came and said hi and took some of our used plates away. Decor is BEAUTIFUL and atmosphere is relaxed yet sophisticated. PLEASE GO TRY IT... Don't buy into all the negative reviews. All new businesses have to work out their quicks when they first open. My parents have vey expensive taste and they LOVED it! I have been to many antics restaurant, and View 202 is on my too list of one of my favorites... AND it is NOT too expensive! BTW- the coffee oh two dessert- WOW! I've had amazing service here, as well as not the best. It's been hit or miss with the food as well. It's either been hot and delicious, or cold and been the wrong order. Which for the price and atmosphere I would expect better consistency, for Redding it's considered a nice restaurant, a bit overrated and overpriced and understaffed. Also the crowd that it brings is considered a bit persnickety and needier than the usual crowd. This restaurant is great when it's not busy. But when they are busy with a Karen at every table it can be hard to keep up with all the customers, but that's usual with "nicer" restaurants. read more

The location is really nice. Right on the Sacramento River with great views; therefore the name. It was a little chilly out on the patio but the fires were blazing and the heat lamps were full tilt. The led lights hanging overhead were beautiful and gave the patio the feeling you were in the stars. I would recommend blankets for the patio as in offered in other "chilly" venues however it's my understanding they don't have the capability to wash them. I'm sure the rest of the year the patio is just spectacular. Dining inside is also very nice. The food was good, not great. I've definitely had better but a decent place. The parking was limited outside. I recommend making reservations although I don't think it's necessary. The service was excellent! read more

I have never had a steak so greasy with butter and oil and with so much fat on the cut. very unappetizing to look at and eat. Butter and oil soaked the plate and the mashed potatoes were so heavy with butter and hard and even the cheesecake way too much butter it was hard and the color of yellow. I think they need a new cook and then I might try going there again. read more

Service was nice, the food was presented well. Food could have been better quality though. 1. Calamari - could have been seasoned a little better. 2. Steak - was nice and actually at the medium rare that I had asked for. (Other restaurants can really mess up a steak and they didn't do bad.) 3. Créame Brûlée - creamy, but not as firm as I had liked it to be. But it was yummy. Will I be back? Most likely not, but only because I live 2.5 hours away. View 202 has the BEST service. I got an entree off the menu that I did not 100% love. It was my fault, I should've gone with something I knew I'd like, but I ventured out. Miguel asked my husband and I how our food was and I replied with "good.." with slight hesitation, but I was absolutely not going to say anything. After he asked a couple more times, I finally told him I didn't love what I had gotten. I admitted it was entirely my fault and it was not a problem at all. Miguel had amazing customer service and asked me what he could get me instead of what I had chosen. He got me my new meal (which was DELICIOUS) also provided us with a dessert. The service was excellent, the food was excellent and they really made our night special. We were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and it was incredibly kind of them. Yesterday for Mother's Day my daughter took me to. View 202. The service was great... the waitress recommended the wild "fresh" sea bass which we both ordered. As soon as we had our first bite we thought it was fishy & off. As seafood lovers we asked for lemon thinking maybe it was just fishy. I put lemon on our fish & within minutes of the first bites... my daughter had to run to bathroom a she felt like vomiting. When she came back... the fish smell made her so ill she ran & threw up. She had turned white & had the sweats. I had the waitress take our meals away... I ordered a fillet to take back home so hopefully later at night she would be able to eat. She threw up one more time& I had intestinal pains & issues all night just from my one bite of tainted fish. After we left view 202 at 8 pm the doors locked behind us & although people were still dining & working inside I knocked on the doors in an attempt to get help getting my daughter to the car & also some water for her. Nobody came to the glass doors where I was frantically knocking & calling them on the phone for help! This was the worst experience & pricey too. Sadly this was my 3rd visit there to View 202. The first ones were very pleasant but this last experience getting food poisoning was my last time there & I feel people should know that what is recommended as Wild & freshman be old & poisonous. I am just glad after a few hours of throwing bad sea bass up my daughter felt better! Sad Experience. read more

Came here for happy hour dinner with friends. We sat outside, which was the best part for sure. They have a good happy hour (1/2 off appetizers and $2 off drinks). I would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price for the food. It was presented beautifully but didn't taste high quality. I ordered the calamari and the Asian nachos. The calamari was good because of the sauce. The actual calamari was all uniform and surely previously frozen. The meat in the Asian nachos tasted strange to me. Wait staff super friendly and the atmosphere was great. Just wasn't a huge fan of the food. Worth going for happy hour and catching sunset though. read more
