Solid, casual spot for some Vietnamese food. My friend and I split grilled chicken and grilled pork banh mi sandwiches and they hit the spot. I liked the chicken slightly better but want to try the charsiu pork next time since they were out of it this visit. Prices are reasonable and service is fast. I'll definitely be back.

    Pho with beef.

I've been meaning to try Vietshack for a while and finally made it in for dinner. We both ordered the pho and enjoyed it. While I'm not a pho expert, I've had it at many places, and like another reviewer mentioned, the broth didn't have the deepest flavor -- but it was still good and satisfying. Service was outstanding, and it's great to see a woman-owned, family-run spot delivering a welcoming experience. Definitely worth a visit.

Meatball pho with the fixings plate - excellent, the best in Phoenix
    Vivian H.

I dont know why I dont come here more often but really I should because this place makes excellent Vietnamese food. Today I came in as I wanted some pho, was feeling a bit dehydrated from running a 10K race today and just wanted to refuel. I ordered the meatball pho and it was excellent. All the flavors are spot on, and everything tasted right! Probably the best pho I have had here in Phoenix! The sit down area is no frills and you help yourself to utensils, hoisin sauce, Sriracha, napkins, water. Id say order take out. You also bus your own table and make sure tp place your empty bowls and plates in the grey bin above the trash right before you leave. My only complaint is that I couldn't find the soap in the bathroom. Excellent pho, I'll definitely come back!

I saw some real good reviews so I thought I give this place a try. Two different Pho place in one week, I think this is my record. OK, this review and my rating is based on Pho only. Ordered my usual special Pho with all the meat. Little over $19 after tax, seems like this is going rate of price around here. Little station where you can make your own dipping sauce was nice. Now being I came right after it opened I was disappointed to see the station not the cleanest. Nothing crazy to where I am going to nit pick every little thing, but enough for me to comment on it. So my bowl came and I don't know why but stainless bowl was little odd and because of the color of the bowl made the broth more watery.. Took my first sip of the broth and it was not too bad. I mixed my vegetables and started eating it. I alway eat my Pho with the spoon, I grab some noodles and put them on the spoon, then dip the spoon in the broth and eat it with broth and noodle. For me this is the best way since you are not just shoving noodle and tasting broth separately. As I started to eat more and more I couldn't help noticing that the broth lacked flavor more than I thought. I finished my bowl thinking man, what a disappointment. This place again is too far for me so I probably won't return. Again I am sure based on reviews other dishes are good, but Pho for me was a no go. Just for the record, I always try the broth before I add any side vegetables and or chillie/Saracha.

I haven't visited Viet Shack for a long time, so I was surprised to see that they now have an expanded dining area! Even I was always there for a to-go order, I am now intrigued to have a sit down experience. I will never stop praising this "hole in a wall" for their fresh ingredients and attractive menu. If they start opening at 6am just by selling their signature coffee, that would be amazing!! (Take my wallet!!) I am also happy to find out that they now offer pho. I hope to go back soon to try it out!

"The [Viet]shack is a little old place where We can get together." - Actual lyrics of The B-52'S "Love Shack" Okay, maybe not. Don't press charges. But they might as well be the lyrics because I would find it hard to believe that Vietshack doesn't bring people together through good food. I've been coming here for a minute and have tried everything on the menu. Not one bad dish is served here. Some of my favorites are the Salt & Pepper Wings and the Char Siu Rice Plate with fried rice. Honorable mention to the Shack Fried Noodles. The Lotus Root Salad is also a refreshing dish. It's cool to see that they have expanded over to the fish shop that was next door. I wish them continued success.

Veggie spring rolls (devoured one before I snapped pic) and veggie tofu stir fried noodles!
    Cecilia L.

I ordered take out once before and loved it, but I finally got to dine in for lunch on the 4th with a friend. It's a small little spot with a counter to order on the left side of the space and then the dining area to the right. You order at the counter & take a number to your table cafeteria style. I got the veggie spring rolls and the veggie tofu noodles. My friend got the number 8b (bun thit nuong vermicelli bowl) and an order of the shrimp spring rolls. The spring rolls are scrumptious with fresh crisp veggies inside, but the best part is the peanut sauce! It's noy spicy like other places I've been and it's just perfect compliment to the roll. I always ask for a second sauce (I want one for each roll). The veggie stir fried noodles were delicious. The veggies were super fresh and tender crisp (cooked perfectly) and the noodles were cooked well and not overly greasy. I absolutely love how they slice the tofu into thin square strips so the edges crisp perfectly in the fryer and you dont have a big soggy middle (as you would with a normal full cube). My friend also thoroughly enjoyed her meal and said she would totally go out of her way to come back here and that her mom would love it too. Highly recommend, whether dining in or to-go! Staff was super friendly and helpful as well. I'm glad I'm only 5mins away from here so I can stop by any time I have a hankering for the food!

    Pork Bahn Mi

This place is Awesome. Had the pork Bahn Mi and it was delicious. Bread crunchiness and texture perfect. The sweetness of sauce was just right. It wasn't like swallowing a teaspoon of sugar. The ingredients were fresh. Sandwich was better than some in Little Saigon back home Plus side, you walk in not greeted by Vietnamese smell wall and come out not smelling. I'd come back.

Best food east of the west coast, awesome customer service, seating expanded and now they have PHO!!! Your missing out if you haven't tried this place, food is always fresh and this place has not changed their portions, you get a great bargain with price and portion here.

    Chicken fried rice
    Nikki M.

I've been seeing this place for many years since I go to Floor and Decor often. Not sure why I never tried it but now I realized I've been missing out. It's a hidden gem! It's a tiny place from the outside but inside there is plenty of seating. You order up at the counter and then they bring the food to you. Dishes are on disposable plates so it's more of a fast food joint which I don't mind at all. I had looked up the menu online prior to the visit and to my surprise the price has not changed in a few years. Their price is super affordable and portion size is perfect. We ordered the chicken fried rice plate and the lotus salad and they were both amazing. I even came back the next day but they weren't open eventhough the sign said 11am and I was there a few minutes after. Looking forward to trying other dishes at a later time. Happy to have found a Vietnamese restaurant that is actually good and affordable.

Crispy Chicken over White Rice Plate
    Patrick L.

Super friendly family that run this place! As a vietnamese person, I approve this place 100%. The crispy chicken over white rice hits the spot every time. The flavor not too salty but can add soy sauce if you'd like, portion is just perfect because it's filling, and the prices are very fair.

    Rice Plates

Love that they expanded the space. It's been awhile since I've been in! Got the bah mi and a fried chicken plate with noodles. The chicken was perfectly fried and super juicy! The bah mi was also tasty. I'd love to try the rest of the menu. Service was good And people are friendly. I'm all for family owned businesses, all the food was great.

    Grilled pork with white rice
    Alisha O.

I came here not long after Vietshack opened and though it's close and I liked it, I never end up stopping in. Grabbed lunch here today and it was so good! I got the grilled pork with white rice. The sauce they give with it is so good! I'll definitely be stopping by more often.

The A/C worked well enough despite the dining area filling up with hungry customers. Seating is laid-back, and ready for a group of four or those willing to share a table. Cordial, English-speaking staff are efficiently working and made sure we were well hydrated during a particularly hot weekend. The food was not as we expected. I had the rice plate and my husband ordered pho. My rice plate was filled with enough rice for all the protein that topped it. My favorites had to be the pork chop and the egg & meat loaf. The pho was fragrant - as it should be - but the flavor of the broth was not developed enough. It tasted like salted water, and the beef flavor only came from the slices they put in the bowl. Maybe we were asking for too much, but the flavors were generally light [at best] and definitely not what I'm used to. Even the nuoc cham tasted watered down...how is that possible? Overall: 2.6 stars. Edible and decent food. The wait staff are quick and personable to the faces they know. If I never had Vietnamese food before the rice plate is filling and good enough to come back for. The pho, however is deceptive - smells great but the taste is watery and lacking.

Nice selections, but probably wouldn't need to get it a second time. I feel like it's hard to find Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm at restaurants, but they did it pretty well and I liked the fried fishballs they had as I've never had that before. While the Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang came in a decent sized bowl, we would've liked more protein/toppings as there was a bit too much noodles. As we were checking out, they did have fried shrimp chips on the counter they were selling in addition to fried bananas with black sesame seeds sprinkled on top (2 for $5). We brought some fried bananas to take home and wow, that was probably the highlight for the restaurant. Would come back alone for these!!

We didn't have any but there were only two of us and we were offered a table out on the patio, which actually was way better than inside. Their patio is the bomb with tons of mirrors and vegetation and they had a portable air unit that provided lots of cool, moving air. They have an extensive drink menu; friend got some moscato which came as a small bottle. She said it was perfect. I just had water which is served in metal cups along with a bottle of extra water and then people are also walking around and filling your cup up as well. Service was impeccable! We both decided on the Pad Thai and an order of the pork dumplings. I am a whimp spice person and the Pad Thai is so spice unless you order it that way. Their menu has so many wonderful options! Parking is very limited and the place is packed inside and outside . Think , eclectic Thai dive bar and it's definitely a local favorite. Even the front door is hidden .. giving it a speakeasy feel . Highly recommend, will absolutely be back !

Nice chilly day, of course nice bowl of Pho is in order. I had Pho from Mesa location so I decided…read moreto give this place a try. Small restaurant and it was pretty busy for lunch time.. Ordered the special Pho which was $16, not a bad price for the dish. My food came pretty quick. Broth was pretty good. Broth had nice flavor and hearty.. One of the better broth I had in a while. Portion was pretty good for the price but only thing I was sad about was lack of meat. I scooped around for the cartilage but none to be found.. WTH... First time eating Pho with everything but missing cartilage.. I was sad.. Over all Pho was pretty good and for the price.. This place was 3 and half but closer to 3 then 4. I would come back here though..

We were craving pho and decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, it was mediocre at best. The cilantro served on the side still had stems attached, which I found a bit odd since cilantro is usually already included inside the pho. It wasn't a huge issue, but it did stand out. I also noticed that we weren't given basil, even though another table received some. We ordered the barbecue pork spring rolls as well, but they tasted more like grilled pork than barbecue. The rolls were quite small and mostly filled with noodles, with very little vegetables. Overall, the prices felt high for the portion sizes and quality of the food, and the experience didn't quite meet our expectations.
