I love this place!!! This was my go-to takeout place when I lived closer. The pork banh mi is my favorite - so flavorful with the sriracha mayo, and the bread is really good too. The spicy shrimp garlic noodles are also very good, as well as the veggie and shrimp egg rolls. The Vietnamese coffee is one of my favorites that I've had also! Ever since the first time I ordered their lotus salad and egg rolls for a quick dinner one night a few years ago, Vietshack has become one of our favorite takeout choices, mostly for weekends since a lot of food pairs so well with beer. I think we've tried almost everything on their menu (at least every type of food) and everything is good, but we have our typical "go-to" order that is a perfect amount and balance of food: Lotus Root Salad: MY FAVORITE!! I sometimes have/cook with the crunchy lotus root with holes (renkon) but these white softer lotus is completely different and SO SO GOOD! And the ingredients that compose the salad are perfectly balanced, just the right amount everything, I honestly have cravings for this salad. Egg rolls with shrimp and/or Shack Shrimp: these both are amazing. They're super yummy warm and crunchy when you first get them, and they're even good cold straight out of the fridge Chicken Wings (salt & pepper) : I want a while takeout container of the onions & peppers that come with the wings!! The wings aren't heavily breaded so I feel they're healthier than crispy breaded wings. Shack fried rice: we usually don't eat that much carbs but their fried rice is too good!!! We often have half of the rice leftover so we freeze it and reheat it for another night and it still tastes great after being frozen/microwaved!! We always takeout and never dined in but they have some small tables for people who want to eat there. I just can't get enough of them! I get the California, it has shrimp, avocado, lettuce, mint, basil and rice noodles and it comes with a peanut sauce. These have been the best fast time lunch, so fresh and light and perfect on a warm day. Where do I start? This place is SO wonderful that I had to update my review again to reiterate what a gem this little family owned place is!! First things first, they are open during Covid-19 and have extended hours which is important for most people right now. Not only are they open for takeout but they packaged our food with extreme care which says a lot about the pride they take in their food and that they care for the people they are servicing. This was my first "to go" experience with them and they went out of their way to package the drinks carefully so that they wouldn't spill. They also made sure to properly vent the "to go" containers on the foods that needed to retain crispness. That was appreciated more than one might think, especially to a foodie like me. I mean let's be honest ... no one enjoys soggy food so that was a thoughtful move! The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are generous. The food was as fresh as when I dine in and packed with a kick of flavor as always. You can taste the quality ingredients as soon as they hit your tongue. I've ordered here multiple times now and for the most part, the food is consistently high quality and tasty. I want to highlight the banh mi as it is a great portion for its price and comes with high-quality marinated meat. The vegetables are also quite fresh and add a nice texture to the sandwich. I think a chili oil crisp would make it an 11/10. I had an issue last time I ordered with the noodles, however, after ordering again, I got pretty good noodles with the meat being the star. If ordering for myself, multiple things would catch my attention depending on my mood for the day which makes for a lot of options for me to choose from. Upon entering the establishment, the decor was minimalistic but specific to the Vietnamese culture. It appears to be clean and we warmly greeted when we walked in. We ordered the lotus root salad (8.95), grilled pork sandwich (6.95), pork belly sandwich (6.95), shack fried noodle with beef and broccoli (8.95) and shrimp spring roll (6.95/5 rolls). If you're not a big fan of spciy foods, make sure to remove the spicy ingredients from the sandwich because it can be a bit hot. The sandwiches include jalepenos and Sirracha. Everything we ordered was tasty, delicious and fresh. The prices are reasonable and the owner was delightful. Also, we got a 10% discount for checking in on Yelp. If you want some good food for reasonable prices with simple flavors but done well, this is the place for you. A note to consider: the hours. Be sure they are open when you are in the mood as their hours are not what you expect. I appreciate that they are scaling their way up to more hours so if they can do what they do well in the time they're open, I'll work my schedule around it! In an unassuming strip mall off Elliot Rd and the I-10, Vietshack is a charming fast casual Vietnamese restaurant that is light on menu items, but what they do serve, they serve well. Since it was our first time, we went with a general spread of spring rolls, grilled pork bun that nuong (vermicelli bowl), and shrimp shack fried rice. We were thoroughly impressed. The spring rolls came in pairs and was standard fare served with a side of delicious peanut sauce. The fried rice was so fragrant, balanced, and had the perfect amount of "wok hei" flavor or wok smokiness. The vermicelli bowl was refreshing and savory. The Vietnamese grilled pork pieces in the noods were some of the best I have had. We were so satisfied with the meal, we decided to add a banh mi as a dessert! We were nervous that the banh mi wouldn't live up to our newly gained hype for this place, and it did not disappoint. The char siu meat had the perfect protein to fat ratio and the bread was exceptionally airy but crisp. It was satisfyingly toothsome but not chewy like other banh mi breads I have had in the valley. It's a little place tucked in the floor and decor shopping center. You order at the register and the food comes to your table. Based on the amazing reviews for the fried noodles, we ordered 2 as well as 5 California spring rolls with shrimp and avocado. We just got water for drinks. The noodles came out before the spring rolls. They are served in paper plates which is easier when you're done. They were cooked with beef, broccoli, carrots and I believe some cabbage. This is one the most delicious noodles I've had in years!! I don't think I've had anything this good since I moved from Dubai! They were perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of seasoning. The spring rolls were served a little after that. They come with a peanut dipping sauce which complimented them really well. Everything in the roll was super fresh and crunchy, it tasted great! For such a little place, it is impressive how good the food is as well as the service. The restaurant is well kept, decor is fresh and modern, bathrooms are clean and nicely done (no baby changing table though). We are definitely coming back the next time we're in the area!
