This tiny strip mall Vietnamese place is slinging some delicious food and coffee, including options other places aren't doing -- and options other places aren't doing well. Any list of their must-try dishes must be topped by the massive fried chicken leg, a crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside delight that can easily be two meals. Don't sleep on the Lotus Root Salad (Gỏi Ngó Sen), a light but hearty mix of lotus root, shrimp, pork, and herbs. It's craveable. Chả giò were perfectly fried with a beautiful crunch and tasted great. Their Viet coffee is tasty and veers off in a different direction than most other sữa đá in Phoenix; here the sweetness is dialed back a couple notches while some extra roastiness (bonus chicory?) pops you one in the tastebuds. It's beautifully balanced and energizing. It's also a great value for the price. Only the bánh mì didn't wow me -- the flavor was great while the bread and meat were a little dry -- but it may have just been an off day. I would (and will) order another. A solid banh mi! I really liked this place and it was one of the better banh mi I have had. Always really nice to have some vegetarian options, which they had with most everything in the menu. I got the tofu banh mi which was very tasty. They were sure to ask whether I wanted mayonnaise or not incase I wanted it full vegan, which was nice. It was very tasty! Not too many jalapeños, so it was warm but not too spicy. Their peanut sauce was tasty! It doesn't come with the banh mi but you could probably ask for it. The owners were super nice and service was great. They have one table outside with two chairs but were happy to let us bring out two more chairs. I have been excited when I saw the sign posted on the window as opening soon. Another great contender of the fast-food Viet scene. It's located in the same plaza as Floor and Decor. I am a fan of intense dark coffee brews. One of the better Cafe Sua Da (Viet iced coffee). I preferred this coffee over Starbucks for sure. If you decided to order the coffee, you have the option to add the Caphe Combo selecting from an eggroll or wontons for $3. It was supposed to be a light snack but turned into full dinner. I tried the California spring rolls and Bun Thit Nuong with grilled pork. I don't know what they used to marinade but the flavor of the grilled pork was so good. The California spring rolls filled a decent amount of shrimps and avocados. Always a great meal on its own. Boom (Viet)Shack-a-laka! Can you dig it? I can definitely dig it at Vietshack. We got a few items to go for a nice little picnic in the park. I dug into a lotus root salad and had a Vietnamese coffee to go with it. I really liked the coffee! It had bold assertive flavors, from the rich creamy sweetened milk evenly balanced with the strong coffee. I'd get this again! I also enjoyed the lotus root salad. I learned the hard way from a different Vietnamese restaurant encounter that if you don't cut lotus root the right way there are really long tough threads that end up in your dish that makes it feel like you are chewing on someone's embroidery project. This lotus root was cut very nicely! When I opened my container there was a beautifully presented array of shrimp, mint, carrots, and fried shallots layered on top of the lotus root. I enjoyed the combination of flavors and textures and the container of fish sauce added an extra umami and salt component to the salad. The dish came with a few shrimp chips which were crispy and light. Even their chopsticks are really nice! None of that splintery, stuck together ish. With all the hate going around in the world, I feel like it's even more important to support our local Asian businesses these days. What a GREAT PLACE !! I'm so happy I found this wonderful little resturant on Yelp because the Reviews are Right On ! My husband and I stopped in Tempe for the night and we felt like eating a Noodle Dish for dinner. 'Vietshack' is definitely 'The Place'. The gentleman at the order counter was very friendly, energetic and answered all of our questions. I ordered the 'CalifornIa Spring Rolls' and loved them ! They had an Excellant fresh flavor with a hint of mint. For dinner my husband and I both ordered the 'Shack Fried Noodles' with Beef, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots and Green Onions, YUM !! Along with being so tasty we each had more than large helping ! We packed up our leftovers to enjoy them for lunch the next day !! Just thinking of writing this review makes me crave Vietshack! Their spring rolls are my go-to - soooo good! And I was craving a banh mi on one visit, but with no gluten-free bread, they went above and beyond and offered to do it on a lettuce wrap! And it was gloriously wonderful! I was so happy to come to Arizona from New England and find a delicious bánh mì sandwich. I am visiting some of my children and grandchildren in Arizona since I haven't seen them in forever. My son came to my daughters house and brought us bánh mì sandwiches and some little appetizer things which were so so good. I love banh mi and in Rhode Island I can only find one place in Providence that is as amazing as I know it can be. I love the taste of the fresh vegetables and that sauce that just soaks in and then kind of drips down your arm if you're not careful. They put very little meat in it which is fine with me because really the stars of the show are the bread and the vegetables and the sauce. My son also brought some batter dip shrimp that were really good. And then my niece who also lives in Arizona came to visit Justin couple of days and we ordered banh mi again for lunch. She's a vegetarian consequently we ordered her the tofu which was her preference. We tried a couple of appetizers, crab Rangoon and nimh chow. They were very different from what I'm used to and very good. They seemed homemade. I know the nimh chow would be homemade but the crab Rangoon seemed to be homemade as well and it was very very good. For the second lunch we ordered online and I went to pick it up. They had curbside delivery so I just sat outside and called their number. They brought it right out to the car very quickly. Very friendly man and I was able to park right in front of the restaurant which was so convenient. It's a bit of a drive for us, but always have to stop by when we're in the area. Had the fried chicken plate and vermicelli bowl with egg roll and grilled pork. Fried chicken had that perfect crunch without being too greasy. Fish sauce adds the perfect finishing touches to the vermicelli bowl. Since where the table was, there was shade and no sun, it was too chilly for me to opt outside so we sat inside. They had a nice menu of options but less than I expected for a Vietnamese restaurant. It's an order at the counter and they give to you either to go or at the table you choose to sit at. I ordered a bahn mi sandwich, and the person at the register suggested the pork so I had that. My friend, the broccoli noodles. My sandwich (to my surprise) came with some veggie chips (were pretty tasty) and no extra side sauces or anything. The flavor was definitely yummy but I felt like it could have used more meat overall. My friend's noodles were good, had nice flavor, but looked like the typical broccoli beef with noodles. Finally had a chance to stop into this super quaint and adorable Vietnamese shop! I'm always keeping my eyes peeled for a great Vietnamese joint so was thrilled when this opened so close to where I work! Hubby and I came in during a slow period so we were super lucky to meet the co-owner of Vietshack and he is an absolute gem. Super invested in ensuring a great experience, was patient in explaining what was in each of the entrees, and incredibly humble for us stopping in. His wife and co-owner is the brilliant mastermind cooking your delicious food and I highly recommend the pork vermicelli salad. YUM! I've ordered twice from this establishment for lunch and was thoroughly satisfied both times. I randomly found this restaurant while I was "yelping" for new places for my coworkers and I to try. I ordered the spicy shrimp fried noodles, chicken spring rolls, and pork egg rolls. The spring rolls tasted very fresh and the small cuts of chicken were not dry. The worst thing you can have is dry chicken which is why I usually despite white meat and the chicken breast. Dipped the spring rolls in the peanut sauce, and it was a very solid appetizer. The eggs roll were also very fresh. It tasted better than most Vietnamese restaurants. They gave a nice portion of the sweet and sour dipping sauce that accompanied the eggs roll. I could've ate at least another order worth. The skin was crispy and crunchy with every bite. It was not overly fried or exceptionally oily. Probably the right amount of "wok hei" if they used a wok. The spicy shrimp fried noodle was delicious as well. The fried noodle wasn't something to rave about but the shrimp was. It was perfectly seasoned and coated with enough flour to give it the fried-crunch. It was so good that I didn't mind eating the shells. Unfortunately, they only give you a few and I wished they provided a larger portion for the noodles. But overall, a great place for lunch anytime! read more

We ventured over starving from a trip to Ikea. It's super close if you are looking for something to eat after shopping. We were pleasantly surprised at this small restaurant. The prices are amazing and you get a great amount of food. My husband had a bahn mi and kept commenting on how good it was. He liked that the bread was a bit softer from what we are traditionally served. I snuck a bite of his. The sandwich was full of flavor and I loved the sauce. It was definitely not dry. Get the grilled pork banh mi. It's the best I've had in Arizona. It's not as good as any of the banh mi you can get for 90 cents in Saigon (brag, I travel). But the bread is light and crusty. The meat is good quality and they give you a good amount of it. You could definitely make a meal out of this sandwich. Plus they load it with veggies and sauce. They do not use pate, which is a bummer. The banh mi also has a small amount of jalapenos. I bought one of these for someone with baby taste buds. He went crazy over the sandwich but whined about how spicy it was... so beware. I've also ordered the spicy garlic noodle bowl with shrimp. Every word in that sentence call me. I was SO surprised at how big of shrimp they use. They don't skimp on shrimp. The shrimp does still have the shell on but it's really delicious. The noodles were a little on the greasy side and not as chewy as I like. But I would order this again. the food here takes about 10 minutes to get. If you compare that to the 6 or 7 minutes McDonald's takes this place is a no brainer for fast food. I would invest if they were franchising. My only question about their future franchise is how they will scale the best part of the restaurant, which is the kid playing video games in the corner/doing homework. We have been here a few times and brought our son in for lunch with us today. Every time we come here the food is delicious which could be expected with their limited menu. Each time we have dined in and everything always tastes incredibly fresh.
