It's a great lunch spot. The food is delicious, big portion and reasonable price. My charsiu pork banh mi has a lot of meat. The fried chicken is huge. I was only a little disappointed with my egg rolls as there were no salad coming with it. Although the egg rolls themselves tasted good and seasoned in a Vietnamese style, but it's incomplete without veggies and pickles. Overall, I like the place and will come back. read more

One of our favorite places for a quick bite!Everything that we've tried here has been really good and fresh tasting. My current favorite thing to order is the Tofu Vermicelli Bowl (the tofu is always nice and crispy without being greasy) and my husband really likes their Banh Mi (the bread they use is delicious!)... other notables include their pork egg rolls which is a general favorite in our family. It's always clean inside and the owners are very friendly and kind. This place has fast friendly service with great food. I had my first Bahn Mi here. I opted for the grilled pork. You can add Vietnamese coffee and a spring roll to make it a combo. The sandwiches are large with the perfect amount of sriracha. I was kind of sad when my sandwich was gone. Everything tasted very fresh. I highly recommend the Vietnamese coffee. Second time coming to the Viet Shack. Footed is fresh and delicious. First visit I had the pork belly Bahn Mi. This time I had the Lotus Root Salad. Upgrade to the entree combo to include the Viet Iced coffee and I highly recommend the spring Roll (often called a Garden Roll as it isn't the deep fried roll). I decided to try this place finally after seeing so many great reviews from fellow Yelpers, unfortunately given their hours finding time in my schedule had been hard. The place is small but very clean, probably enough seating for 14 people. I ordered the pork belly banh mi with a traditional spring roll. Everything about the banh mi is fantastic... the bread is great, the pork belly is great, the pickled veggies and other veggies all great, the sauce is great. It's just a great sandwich. The traditional spring roll was super great as well, the peanut sauce was an awesome compliment. The best thing I had though, hands down, were the homemade veggie chips. THEY NEED TO SELL THESE CHIPS! They're the best chips I've ever had and I want them all the time! The authenticity of most Asian places within an area that's surrounded by business parks and commercial venues can be somewhat questionable. But this one is definitely a place to check out. I got the fried chicken with noodles and I was very pleased. The chicken was crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside and the noodles are paired really well with it. I also tried the fried egg rolls and a spring roll and they compare very well to if you were to go to a pho place in the Asian plaza. I left with a Vietnamese iced coffee and this is where I get critical. Vietnamese iced coffee is my jam so I had to grade this hard and I was pleasantly surprised. Most places either make it too sweet to cater to a general eye but theirs was a perfect balance of sweet and strength of the coffee taste. One of the owners was there and he greeted everyone and asked how the food was. He treated everyone the same and was very warm welcoming. Great smile and the other employees were the same. After a morning of shopping and Ikea, we wanted to try a place fairly close to our new home that we are waiting to be completed. We came across this place and man.....it was amazing! Had the California Spring Rolls and they were wonderful! Hardly had any cilantro which is great as some places pack waaaay too much of it in theirs. We both had a pork vermicelli bowl and again amazing! Flavorful and great sized portions. Customer service was great and the place was clean and nice to dine in at. The restaurant was very clean with a fresh modern interior. It smelled absolutely delicious inside. I was greeted by the owner and after a brief conversation, I could tell he was a true family man that had a passion for authentic Vietnamese food. I ordered the Banh Mi Thur Nuong with grilled chicken. The chicken was so tender and grilled to perfection with a hint of smoky flavor. It was packed into a soft golden loaf topped with fresh pickled carrots, green onions and cilantro. This was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in general, and I eat a lot!!! Went based on reviews of other Yelp'ers and was not disappointed. The chef here uses a curated menu that he executes flawlessly. Went in expecting to order a Banh Mi but at the time they we delivering an order of Shack Fried Noodles that looked and smelled amazing so I changed my mind and ordered that. Paired it with pork belly spring rolls. Everything was excellent. Tasty, well prepared and beautifully presented (given the use of disposable service ware). I will definitely be back. Instead of hot and heavy food, come here. At these prices no one needs to slave and cook. They have a special add on and it makes a lunch or dinner even tastier. The young couple is first generation and they are both just lovely hosts. Coming here alone just means they can take you on an excursion to escape your life, if only for thirty minutes to an hour. Don't rush here. They food is too good, so take your time. Spring roll is healthy and full of sweet basil that is a real reward. Peanut sauce rocks. Cream cheese wontons ARE TO ...well get your own, don't share. So flavorful and crunchy doesn't do them justice. My pork vermicelli bowl was balanced and the pork was done just right - so clean tasting and flavorful. Cool dishes for hot days and nights. I drove about 25 miles. Zero qualms or regrets. Here is what my hubby tried so far Banh mi with pork belly - very yummy. Love that they serve this in the traditional soft and crunchy bread vs baguette bread. The pork belly is seasoned just right. You can't go wrong! Vermicelli or rice with grilled pork! Can't you tell by now we love pork! The pork is seasoned and grilled just how I remember eating in Vietnam. The reason why I said there's an American twist because they give you lettuce vs picked cabbage making the dish more refreshing. Spring rolls - refreshing. Taste just like how a spring roll should. Noodles with fried chicken (?) - the chicken skin is so crispy! Seasoned just right. They gave you a huge chicken thigh which hubby couldn't finish. To go boxes are modified to help vent and prevent the steam for making food soggy. I appreciate that thoughtfulness. I ordered 4 bahn mi sandwiches and 5 eggrolls. Great portion of meat and interesting house chips. You could taste every ingredient and it lived up to my prior experiences. Only downsides is the price is a bit higher than we were used to back in California but we felt the portion sizes were justifiable. And the eggrolls were a bit more oily than we were used to but still very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu!!! read more

The banh mi with grilled pork was luscious with fat and flavor, smokey, hot off the grill, great contrast against the crunchy veggies, tied together by the creamy spread on a crusty roll, not so hard it hurts your upper palate, but also not soft enough that it falls apart when you put all these wet ingredients on there. The freshly fried house chips -- are these prawn crackers (bánh phng tôm)? -- were unexpected and delightful. Then there's the spring roll, very fresh, green minty crunch against the pork and shrimp, fantastic, and the cà phê đá, slightly bitter sweet, a gorgeous dark caramel color, very generous pour. Unique small shop in Tempe offering lunch and early dinners featuring Vietnamese sandwiches, rice and noodle dishes, but no Pho. The Shack Shrimp entre and BBQ pork spring rolls were tasty. The bun with grilled pork and egg roll was very good and quite filling. Fresh and cool for a warm summer day. I'll return and try the stir fry noodles and an iced coffee on my next visit here. Grabbed lunch yesterday at this mom & pop Vietnamese restaurant. It's a small, casual, order-at-the counter restaurant. I had shrimp egg rolls and a chicken banh mi. The egg rolls were hot and crispy, solid comfort food. But the banh mi was MIND-BLOWINGLY GOOD, the best I've ever had. The roll was perfectly crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken was savory and sweet and cut into bite-sized chunks. The crunchy vegetables in the sandwich were proportioned right. It was awesome. I appreciated that they had non-pork options, which isn't always true. (They even had vegetarian choices. Note: My friend had the pork bahn mi and spring rolls, and he also raved about them.) On the way out the door, a Vietnamese iced coffee was a sweet treat to fight off a food coma. I'll be back, Viet Shack. read more
