I do recommend stopping at all. None of thr games are priced. I asked the owner of why he doesn't have his games priced for being a retail store and basically to sum it up: profit maximizing. The son and the owner look up their prices on their laptop and go by the highest priced listed item on ebay and not even sold comps. They have an insane amount of inventory but good does it do that they just have live pricing? Do not go in here. I have been to a hundreds game stores and this by far was the worst one. read more

I absolutely recommend Video Game Trader/Board Shop of America. The owner Jim and his son James were extremely helpful and also very kind and personable. Just dont go here. the old dude is a straight up yapping weirdo. always making some weird comments and talking way too much while youre trying to browse. he'll stand near or in front of the games you're looking at and talk your ear off with some off handed remarks. when i first walked in, i saw the selection and wondered why the store wasnt packed with people. when i was done and left, i knew exactly why that place had 0 customers. cause nobody wants to pay double the price for a game that is half the value, while getting your ear talked off by some creepy old dude that doesnt know when to stop talking and let his customers shop and look around. read more

I had a terrible experience at this place. The customer service provided by the older gentleman, who is the owner of the store, was very rude. As soon as I walked in, I asked him to repair my disc that had scratches on it. Top of it he doesn't test out the games to see if it works. Instead of attending to my request, he asked me why I had short hair, which I found quite offensive. I felt that he was being homophobic and it made me very uncomfortable. People have health conditions, and it's not anyone's business, especially not his, to ask such personal questions. He also mentioned that he was giving the business to his son who had long hair and didn't know much about gaming. I strongly advise against going to this store if you don't want to be made uncomfortable about your appearance. read more

I was greeted as soon as I walked in, (first time in BTW). I was shown to the games for the console I had, everything was neat. After looking for awhile I was asked if there was anything I wanted to see and they open the huge case up for me to grab the ones I was interested in. Each game was $15 which seems fair to what I have seen them going for online and I didn't have to wait for the mail to deliver them. I will return for more. read more

I work and drive all around Southern California for work. In my travels I have visited a couple dozen different used video game stores. From North Hollywood, Burbank, Fontana, Orange County, down to Chula Vista even...this place has the most impressive selection of a vast variety of items that are not so commonly found in store fronts. I purchased a Sega Saturn Stunner from here on Saturday and the proprietor was a kind fella, terse, but fair. I'll say if you're from the area or neighboring counties and are in the market for something (especially something sorta rare or complete or both) and you wanna see it in person before deciding to purchase it, this is your best bet. Can't say for sure their prices are competitive with EBay but in a pinch, the mark up isn't unreasonable...this of course is relative to how much you want something. Cool place. I have coming to this hidden gem for years now and recently came to the new location. I always receive helpful and kind Custer service, my boyfriend and I always look forward to seeing the owner Jim and seeing how he is doing or what's new. In this last recent trip he told us that he was giving the shop to his son which made me excited what's to come and the legacy of this shop. We always get good,clean copies of all the games we purchase and the price is always also a plus. We will be back soon and will continue to tell all gamers to check them out. The value for repairs here is unbelievable, first and foremost I called to ask whether they had the service (they don't) then they have the audacity to say they charge $25 per game. Called a competitor over an hour away to see what their price was and it was a reasonable $10 per game with parts and service included. I'm flabbergasted that they want to charge so much to swap a battery out. I have three games needing service so if I had gone with them it would've been a whopping $75?! Hope they get a clue and begin helping customers rather than being quick to grab a handsaw to take either your arm or leg. read more

My son was so excited to go to this place. After waiting weeks to finally bring him, the place was A total let down. First of all he had 100 dollars in his wallet from Christmas not that that should matter anyway, When we first walked in he asked his step dad how he was related to him. What the hell? Are you serious? How is that any of his business? Then my son asks him to see a game, he replied with you can't see any games and if you name one I'll take it out so you can buy it. Again, WTH!!!! He proceeds to tell my son how he should stop charging for video games and start charging for browsing. I'm so pissed off! I can't believe the nerve of this guy. It's good I left right away because I'm sure it would of not been good. Don't give this guy your money! By the way my son is almost 17. I've had better sellers on offer up!!!! Very poor experience going here. If you are a serious collector then just understand this - these guys have a good selection of stuff but they are asking double the price of what it goes for on price charting. When you ask for the price of a game, they go on price charting and then double it and that's their price. The owner basically admitted that to me. Then when I pointed out that he was asking for way higher than market value he argued with me and basically said he has plenty of customers. I was the only person in there looking at games at the time. Based on the inventory they have in there I sincerely doubt they have plenty of customers. If you are not a collector then going there makes even less sense because their prices are twice what you can get this stuff on eBay for. They're selling GTA for $25 case in point. A sealed copy on Amazon is $15. read more

This place is super expensive and dirty. To give you an idea of the prices, the Original Xbox games Burger King made as a promotion during November and December 2006, Sneak King, Big Bumpin' and Pocketbike Racer, are sold at an outrageous $26. These are the worst games ever made in gaming history. Yes, worse than E.T. for the Atari 2600. Everything else, the good, bad and ugly START AT $20 - 30. Some are over $80. The games are in horrible condition. The boxes are filthy to touch, covered in dust and sticky, while most of the games are scratched or damaged to the point where they don't play. You get it home and find out it doesn't work, they won't replace it or refund it. Horrid customer service. They dont care at all about helping you or acknowledge you when you enter. They just talk to each other. I've heard them discuss offensive or sensitive issues, even with kids around. I dont know how they've stayed in business for as long as they have, which is about one year. First and foremost, after reading all these reviews.. you need to be a knowledgable consumer. I have been to nearly every video game store in the area. Unlike a lot of people reviewing, I know about all the game stores in the Rancho/Ontario area which are more plentiful than Riverside but can be the worst experiences of your life. I don't like to name game stores, and I won't but my experience here was a lot better than any game store I have rated less than 4 stars. First of all, I know it doesn't look like much from the outside... Never base a book by it's cover. It's the only skateboard shop/ video game store I know of and that's really a killer combination. I didn't buy any skateboard related items, but their selection of decks and trucks seemed adequate. But to get to the games you gotta walk past all the skateboard stuff. I will be honest if you're looking for an immaculate store... This is not it. A lot of games are not priced but as I stated before.. Be a knowledgable consumer. I saw some rare games including boogerman for genesis, truxton for genesis (i bought it), and even red zone for genesis. I saw a gamecube game boy advance add on, a sega cd, and they even had a sega fight stick which I have longed for, for a long time. But, once again establish that you are a smart consumer ask for prices and be nice. I bought truxton loose for 15 bucks that's a savings of like $30 dollars. You have to be smart and know what you're looking for. They had Michael Jackson Moonwalker loose for $50, another steal. As with any game store, some games are priced higher than others while some are priced lower. The key to this store that no one is talking about, is that the people there are actually really really nice and trying to make deals. Not all of their inventory is out, so if you ask them they may have it.. like the fight stick I mentioned. The problem is casual gamers may have a hard time because they may ask for a price and think it's too high... that's life. Be bold, make deals, and the selection here is incredible. I play gamecube, genesis, super nintendo, nes, and xbox 360. I mostly play Genesis as it's my favorite system and it had a lot of games I have not seen in other stores. The gamecube selection was clean but not many titles I was interested in. Sadly, I couldn't get a good look at the NES stuff as I was entranced by the Sega Selection. I know they have a lot of NES titles, Super Nintendo, Sega, and a little bit of Gamecube. They have a buttload of Xbox360 and PS2 titles as well.. The PROS: Incredible Selection, Knowledgable Staff, and have fair prices on items. The Cons: You have to ask for prices, know what you're looking for, and maybe even ask for items. But, the Cons I list are ones based on the consumer's inability to be BRAVE or shell out the cash. I would shop here again, I loved it. read more

These guys are awesome. As soon as I walked in, I saw a ton of cool skateboarding stuff and then looked to my left as soon as I entered and saw their enormous collection of video games. These guys practically have it all; Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, PSP, PS1 and PS2, Atari, N64, Gamecube, and so much more. I originally went in to resurface some game discs, but I ended up buying Rayman 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and had several of my Dreamcast game discs restored. I didn't have to mail my games and wait for them to be mailed back to me, I got them back in a matter of minutes looking just like the were when I first bought them 15 YEARS AGO! The people at the store were really nice. Jim was a really cool guy and assured me that the game discs I purchased should work and if not, he will make it right. I saved quite a bit of money shopping at this store compared to buying online. Usually, buying classic games online is a pain due to price gougers on online marketplace retailers, whereas I can get a ton of rare games for a decent price at Video Game Trader. Think about it; when you take into account having to pay shipping and waiting for the game you just purchased to arrive, you could be at home playing it. So if you're looking for a cool place to get your fix of nostalgia or to get some really cool skateboarding stuff, CHECK THESE GUYS OUT. read more

The shop os ran by an older set of guys who are pretty cool once you get to know them, if you are looking for a specific game or video there is a price you will pay, but every game I have looked for is no longer being manufactured so spending an extra 5-10 $ over Google on a game that im going to drive home and play is understandable in my point of view (referring to other reviews) Over all the Service is excellent overall, the atmosphere is heavy (there os 12 lbs of stuff in a 10lb box, but there is a second store opening soon which makes sence on inventory) there on hand selection is extremely impressive and there ability to locate hard to find games is an awesome service to take advantage of. read more

Went in the other day and Mike (the bald guy) was there working. I was looking for 2 games and he quotes me the price. Then when he rings it up the price goes up more than expected. I asked him why the jump and he says "oh its the tax". I said "tax is not 15 %" . What a scumbag. He thought I wouldn't catch that. Then everytime I would ask for a price for other games, he would always be evasive. It felt just like going to a car dealer. I travel for work and have been to many retro shops. I love this store. It is the best video game store I have ever been to. That is saying a lot because I have been to video game stores throughout the whole country. They have many titles in stock, and their trades are ridiculously fair. If you bring in fifty dollars worth of used games, you can trade for fifty dollars worth of used games. It's as simple as that. Many stores give you about eighty percent of what your stuff is worth, not at Video Game Trader. And what I like about this store the most, is their prices. Their prices are very cheap compared to other stores. All things considered, the staff is great, the parking is great, their selection is great, and the whole store is great. read more

They need to have a price sticker on everything so we...the customer can constantly asking them how much is this? How much is this one? Prices on old video games are a joke.

Huge selection of games. However, games are also largely overpriced and customer service I personally received was unwelcoming and seemed very disorganized. I was told to help the shopkeeper find what I was looking for and once I did he said he only had one copy- I found about 9 or 10 scattered in the shop. Before checking the quality of the CD he told me the price: 10x the retail value. I would recommend if looking for rare or vintage games but otherwise, I would not recommend. read more
